Background

History: Born with her twin brother Samuel James Witwicky, Samantha Jordyn Witwicky had been promised to share a car with her brother if they both raised the $2,000 dollars between the two of them and received 3 A's in school, which wasn't a problem for her since she could get straight A's if she applied herself but chooses not to because she's against high academic pressure and considers herself a rebel of all "social conventions". After they choose Bumblebee as their first car, they are both hunted by Barricade because of Sam's possession of their great-great-grandfather's glasses and Sammy's possession of his pocket watch which was affected by a magnetic pulse from one of Megatron's weapons, causing the composition of the watch to mutate and give magnetic manipulation to whoever wore it after it was reactivated by Bee's Spark signature. When the All Spark was destroyed, a sliver of it pierced through the watch into Sammy and transferred its powers to her, so it was recommended that, after graduating high school, she joined the newly formed NEST strike force to train to use her powers for good and to be a liaison for the Autobots.

After NEST was formed, Sammy was attending Lennox's potluck for new NEST agents when she met Epp's niece, ZJ, and they hit it off with their disabilities, ZJ's scarred hands and Sammy's inability to perceive and express her feelings due to the head trauma injury she received when she was a kid in a bounce house. Eventually, after a lengthy discussion about ZJ's passion for skateboarding and Sammy not having any sort of personal ambition, ZJ notices her natural rhythm and helps her find a hobby to start with by introducing her to dance, which she later finds she could apply to combat.

In Revenge of the Fallen, Sam was holding Sammy's wrist when he touched the Allspark shard and it mentally linked the two of them. When she arrives at the Diego Garcia base, Sammy is assigned Ironhide as her guardian, despite their initial reservations since he's more about following rules and she's more about breaking them, but Optimus purposefully puts them together so they'll learn from each other. She works closely with Autobots, hanging around and "training" with Bee and Ironhide since Bee keeps an eye on Sam and Ironhide teaches her about weaponry as well as how to develop battle moves that are based on dance. When the Allspark shard is stolen, she tells Sam that it would be better if the Autobots had a spokesperson outside of NEST to vouch for them when he suggested she do it herself. She stays behind with the remaining Autobots and inadvertently brings ZJ along to the rescue mission for her twin. After Optimus is killed protecting Sam, Sammy is nearly arrested for disobeying and attacking Galloway when he tried to exile the Autobots and for involving a citizen into "covert government affairs" with the Autobots. She catches up with her twin while getting him to Optimus in Egypt and is killed with him trying to get them to Optimus through the air, but is revived with him at the cost of her right leg. After the battle, Ironhide gives some of his metal to create a new mechanical leg for Sammy and, with his and ZJ's help, she begins to recuperate and cope with her newest disability along with her old one by involving dance more into her military life along with her personal life.

In Dark of the Moon, Sammy questions whether or not NEST is something she wants to do for the rest of her life when she's offered a promotion to Lieutenant since she's not big on committing to one thing. When asked by Ironhide why not she tells him about how she's a "jack of all trades, master of none" and doesn't commit to things because she feels it would be suppressing her true potential. When Sam comes to warn them about Sentinel, Sammy is taken by him after she witnessed Ironhide's death and went after Sentinel wanting revenge. When he sets the pillars in place, he reveals to Sammy that the pillars still lacked a magnetic stabilizer and that, without one, they wouldn't function. After being used to stabilize the bridge, Sammy's powers appeared to have gone away, only to be discovered later when she was saved they were just incredibly weakened, and so she was told she would stay on Earth instead of being sent away with the Autobots if she still had her powers. After telling ZJ how she felt about her and saying possible goodbye, Sammy goes with Sam into Chicago to help him save Carly and stop the Decepticons before they are joined by Epps and his team. While in Chicago and after the Autobots reveal themselves to be still alive, Sammy is given magnetic amplifier gauntlets from Que that were meant to be a gift from Ironhide before he was killed. After the battle's done, both Sam's are hunted by Cemetery Wind for their involvement with the Autobots.

Shortly after meeting the other three Autobots, Crosshairs, Drift, and Hound, Sam is eventually killed after he attempted to visit Carly, same with Ron and Judy for attempting to hide their whereabouts, but ZJ, her mom, and Epps survive only by severing their connections with Sammy and the Autobots to stay safe, much to Sammy's dismay since she had been planning to ask ZJ to be her girlfriend before all the conflict separated them. Sammy gets left behind after she and her Autobot allies were almost caught but she stayed behind to hold CW and Lockdown back long enough for them to escape.

In Age of Extinction, Sammy is a lone, rogue soldier who went years without using her powers once or else CW would find her. In her exile, she had to hitchhike and steal supplies whenever she could, all while avoiding people since they either ratted her out or got killed for being involved with her. While on the run, she was almost caught once by Lockdown and it cost her an injury to her mechanical leg that resulted in a limp that she wasn't able to properly fix since she had no access to good tools as well as part of her arm, lower face to the back of her neck having burn scars from one of Lockdown's grenades. One day, she uses the piece of tech that Que gave her during the attack on Chicago to track any Autobot allies based on their spark signatures and follows the trail to Optimus in Cade Yeager's home after a botched signal came from Ratchet before it disappeared after he told her to stay away. When she arrives at Cade's home while he is repairing Optimus, she appears and reveals herself to Optimus. Over the years of being alone and having to constantly run and fight for her life, especially after losing her family and Ironhide to death while having to stay away from ZJ, Sammy is extremely distrustful of and cold towards other people, even going as far as being completely insensitive to Lucas' death and suggesting she and Optimus escape while Savoy threatened Cade and Tessa. When Savoy and Cemetery Wind attack the Yeager farm, she struggles to keep up in the fight from years of not using her powers, but manages to help Optimus fight against Lockdown and protect Cade, Tessa, and Shane using her skills in weaponry. She is reunited with Bee and the other Autobots she had been on the run with before they were all separated. While Cade, Shane, and Bee broke into KSI, Sammy stayed outside with the others and went with them as they trash their operations and saved Brains and nearly attacks Joyce when he bad talks the Autobots and is only held back by Bee. She is taken with Optimus and Tessa after being captured by Lockdown and is forced to fight all his "trophies" without the use of her powers to see "how much longer she could endure". After she and Optimus are saved by the others and he declared the Autobots were done defending humans, it took Cade's speech to remember that Sam would never have wanted Sammy to give up and to keep fighting for what's right even if it "takes being punched a hundred times to make it happen" and supports Cade's argument to Optimus. Throughout the battle in Shanghai, Sammy uses her powers and she thought she was rusty from not using them for years before but she had a mental block that unblocked after finding the strength to believe again and became strong enough to protect Cade, Tessa, and Shane while battling alongside Bee and Strafe. After Optimus leaves Earth, Sammy apologizes to Cade and Tessa for being so rude and distant when she first met them and swears to protect them, later only being Cade after the two of them and the remaining Autobots go to hide in a junkyard.

In The Last Knight, Sammy goes back to not using her powers to avoid being detected but works on controlling and channeling her anger that she built up over the years with Drift while working on new weaponry techniques with Crosshairs and Hound and is consistently asked by Cade why she doesn't at least make the effort to reach out to ZJ, if not to talk to her to at least let her know she's alive and Sammy says it's because she would be putting her in danger and has to be willing to let her go to keep her safe. She works with Cade to help other Autobots and is with him when Lennox attempts to get them to stand down, telling him he was no longer her Commander and she was no longer a soldier. When Izabella shows up, she takes her under her wing since she thought she was a tough kid to have lost her family to the Decepticons and still wants to fight them and relates to that, telling her about her own grievances and past mistakes. When they are compromised and Cogman shows up to bring in Cade, Sammy demands on going with him and is shown to be the only person able to take him on because of her powers, rusty as she is with them. She accompanies Cade, Vivian, Bumblebee, and Cogman to Merlin's tomb and helps them fight against Lennox and his soldiers before Nemesis Prime shows up to take the staff. When Cybertron is on the verge of combining with Earth, Sammy fights alongside the Autobots to save the Earth and, like Cade, lets ZJ know she's alive and that she misses and loves her. When the battle's over, Sammy says she wants to go with the Autobots, but Optimus tells her they need one of their own to still defend the planet in case anything ever comes up and she stays with Cade, Vivian, Jimmy, and Izabella and, thanks to the message she had sent before the battle, gets to see ZJ again when they reunite and she finally confesses her love for her.
