Background
Birthplace: Los Angeles, California
Home: Okinawa, Japan
Job: Working in her parent's restaurant
Backstory/History: Born in Los Angeles where her parents met and settled before they all moved to her dad's home city of Okinawa when she was 14. Lini was introduced to skateboarding from her primos in LA who helped her advance before they had to move and she got introduced to S where she created her alter ego, Eclipse. While at S, she hides the fact that she's a girl, since people don't take female skaters seriously, by wearing a mask, tying her hair up in a "man bun" and acting like a guy to compete.
When she met Reki and Langa after Langa's first beef with Shadow, she gives him pointers on how to improve the way he skates but disappears before they could ask her more.
On a restaurant restock run, she bumps into Miya on his way to Dope Sketch where he figures out who she is after he "drops" his skateboard in front of her and she returns it to him revealing her shoulder tattoo and questions why she's so "cowardly" and hides behind a mask, to which she retorts on why he doesn't tell his manager that he competes in an illegal underground skateboarding circuit and they form a mutual respect to one another since they both know how to stand up for themselves, want to prove others wrong, and are hiding what they do from figures in their lives.
When Langa goes up against Miya, she joins them in telling Miya that skating should be done for fun and they welcome her into their group with Miya, but she disappears when Adam shows up fearing he might reveal her identity to the S community.
They're later directed to her family's restaurant by Miya and almost reveal the fact that she competes in S in secret to her parents if she hadn't shooed them out and snuck out to join them in the skate park for Reki's practice and training for his beef against Adam. There she reveals that Adam was the one who let her in on S when he saw her practicing in the park in the dark since she didn't want anyone knowing she skated and giving her a hard time for it. Like Miya, he had told her he "admired" her for her skills so he gave her an S pin encouraging her to give it a chance claiming it would force her to grow. When Reki questioned why she ran away when Adam showed up after Langa's beef with Miya, she told them about how her parents have a bad habit of running away from their problems so it rubs off on her and how she doesn't want people knowing she's a girl and questioning her skating abilities and Reki tells her that she shouldn't be afraid to show people what she can really do.
When Reki is injured during his beef with Adam, Lini tosses aside her mask to show everyone at S who she was, saying she was done letting people like Adam force others into feeling like they had to prove their worth to feel acknowledged.
Lini runs into the guys on their way to the hot spring island when her dad sends her on a trip to get some produce for the restaurant and tags along with them to the beach and later on their way to the hot springs where she's attacked with the others by the "mud men."
Later, Lini signs up for the S tournament and wins the qualifier round with Cherry under her own name and with a new outfit to show how she's not afraid of what people will think of her. She finished just two seconds behind Cherry and told him "What can I say? The mask was just weighing me down." or "The mask was unnecessary weight." She beats Shadow in the first tournament round, but the next day is attacked at her parent's restaurant by fans of Shadow who didn't think he would lose against a girl and she must've cheated and they bruised her ribs and nearly broke her leg if her parents hadn't stepped in to protect her. She tells them about how she's competed in S
tells her parents about S and how her mom needs to stop running from her problem of making up with her family back in LA and how her dad needs to stop running from the problem of introducing his family to his wife's just because he's afraid of what might happen.
At the end, when everyone's celebrating Langa's victory, Lini and her parents bring food to the party along with Joe and, when Adam shows up, Akio recognizes his old co-worker/boss and Adam tells him that they should be proud of their daughter and how she and her friends reminded him what is truly important and she's just like her mother; breaking down gender normative barriers.
