Drake Goes Grimm in Death Battle!
Within the absolutely insane world of Remnant, their lies 4 continents. Anima and Menagerie to the East; Solitas to the North; And Sanus in the South and the West. And with 3 of them come the 4 kingdoms, Mistral in Anima; Atlas in Solitas; and Vale and Vacuo in Sanus. Besides Menagerie, these 4 kingdoms govern this world, dictating its laws and dealing with its.... well, absurd pest problem.
Yeah, there's these creatures called "Grimm" that inhabit the whole world and they're attracted to any kind of negative emotion. For centuries, these creatures have laid waste to about 50% of the world, making it uninhabitable. So what did the governing powers do to try and fight back? They created the legendary Huntsman academies! 4 academies, one in each kingdom where Huntsmen and Huntresses can be trained so that they can do battle with these dark creatures! And, my god, the weaponry they wield is just..... IT'S SO FUCKING COOL! THEY'VE GOT GUNCHUCKS! YES, NUNCHUCK GUNS!
In the forest kingdom of Mistral, Haven academy rested upon its tallest peaks. In the snowy climates of Atlas, the Atlas academy trained its hunters and military. In the desert kingdom of Vacuo, Huntsmen were trained in the most extreme conditions. And in the balance of all three, within Vale was the most respected of all academies, said to train the best of the best, Beacon academy.
Yeah, Beacon is like the Harvard of Huntsmen academies in this world. But we'll get to that place and Vale later. First, we've gotta start in Vacuo! Hope you're not an Anakin Skywalker because this first bit is gonna have a lot of sand!
On a seemingly normal and hot sunny day in a small town, two children decided to venture out of the towns wall and play in the sand dunes. A young boy and girl who've played together all their lives in safety were about to meet fate itself though. Despite only going out about 100ft from the town, the sand dune they decided to play on.... well, it began to move. You see, beneath the sand, a monstrous creature of Grimm slept. While it may not have been attracted to their negative emotions, it still acts as a vicious wild animal, using its keen senses of smell and hearing to track prey. This creature was known as a Griffon(yes, I know how it's actually spelled, but this is how it's spelled in RWBY), and it's actually similar in shape and size to how real life depictions of Gryphons look, only this creature had dark black skin and wings, bones coming out of its body, and dark red eyes.
The kids knew about the Grimm and they tried to GTFO. The little girl was able to make it back inside the towns walls, but the boy wasn't as lucky. Using one of its talons, the Griffon sliced open the boys right arm from his elbow down, wounding him enough to stop him from fleeing. It looked like the kid was done for, but then out of the blue, a Huntsman showed up! He fought the Griffon back and eventually, with a swing of his axe, he decapitated the beast! But in the process, some of the Grimm's blood entered the boys arm wound. He was rushed to the nearest hospital and had the wound sealed up, and somehow, he didn't have to get it amputated. And upon further examination, they found no trace of any infection or disease from the Grimm blood that entered the boys system, so it was brushed off as nothing to worry about. But the kid now had these wicked looking scars on his arm. Probably would make for a good story.
Seeing his job done, the Huntsman left the scene, knowing his duty was done. But his impact would inspire the two children to become Huntsmen themselves. And one of them, the little boy, would become one of the greatest Huntsman, who leads one of the greatest teams, in all history. His name is Drake Colburn.
Full Name: Drake Thomas Colburn
Age: 19(Currently)
Height: 6'4"
Member and Leader of Team DLTA
Nickname: "Moose" as given by Roman Torchwick
Currently a member of the Atlas Ace Ops.
A decade after he was attacked, Drake graduated from Huntsman primary school, along with his childhood friend, and also the same little girl as before, Leena Myst. Huntsman primary school isn't like the academies though, it's more basics of fighting and weapon construction. And man, did Drake ever make one badass weapon. True to all RWBY characters, Drake, as well as Leena, gave their weapons names to give themselves character. And Drake named his weapon "Sky Blazer."
https://youtu.be/P6mAGSWxRiY
This triple cylinder revolver is able of holding up to 18 bullets at a time, 6 per chamber. In the first, Drake prefers to keep normal bullets within. In the second and third, Drake fills them with bullets that contain the material known as "Dust." In Remnant, Dust is essentially a fuel source containing many different types which can be infused into many different objects, and in this case, bullets. Drake prefers to have his second chamber filled to the brim with fire, ice, and lightning element bullets, and in the third, he fills it up with explosive shots.
But this is no normal gun. In fact, pretty much every weapon in this world has two functions, gun-mode, and melee mode. And in Drake's case, by pressing a button on the side of his weapon, the barrel extends out and the blades atop it spread out, with a 4th blade appearing from the base of the grip which lines itself up with the barrel, creating this.... uh, spear and trident mix thingy of a weapon. Plus, if the weapon still has bullets in it and they happen to be filled with Dust, Drake can use it and imbue the centre blade with the element of Dust, giving him even more striking power.
And with his skills and weapon complete, Drake was now qualified to attend one of the 4 Huntsman academies. Now, at first glance, with him being from the kingdom of Vacuo, you'd expect him to head off to Shade academy, the one housed within the same kingdom. This was not the case though. Drake was actually offered and accepted into Beacon Academy over in Vale, along with Leena. The two set out where they would surely learn even more of what they could've at Shade.
When the best friends arrived, they soon found new friends almost immediately. For Drake, he met a familiar girl with silver eyes, and a tall blonde dopey dude. You know them as Ruby and Jaune. Anyways, after their orientation where they met headmaster of Beacon, professor Ozpin, Drake and the rest of the first years were off to their initiation event.
For this event, the students would be flung into an area known as the Emerald Forest, a place thriving with Grimm. The rules were as follows: You can do anything to survive, and whoever your eyes should meet, and if they haven't met someone else already, they will become your partner for the next 4 years at Beacon. Then, later into the trial, your pair will group with another to form your teams. And, upon finding an artifact, you could return to where you began. Simple.
The students entered and were scattered throughout the forest. Drake eventually ran into some Grimm, including some Ursa which are basically giant bears, and Beowulves, which are like werewolves. And eventually, Drake came face to face with his partner at Beacon. Originally, he had hoped to have found Leena, but with who he found, he would become more than satisfied. Drake's new partner was Temair Moonfist, one wise and chill dude, and a Faunus from Menagerie.
A Faunus is basically a human with some sort of animal-like feature. In Temair's case, he possessed lizard scales all along his arms. Other Faunus possess tails, cat ears, whiskers, fish fins, a bunch of different stuff. And in Remnant, they're typically discriminated solely because of their appearance. However, Drake wasn't like most and treated Temair as a friend, opening the two up to each other and forming a bit of a bromance. Uh, not in that way, though!
Yeah, he's right. It's not in that way. Anyways, Drake and Temair eventually found their way to where the artifacts were hidden away, and once they arrived, met the other have of their soon to be team. Drake reunited with Leena, as well as, her new partner, Amber Lisa, who was also a Faunus, actually. She had these cute fox ears. She was pretty shy and timid to start, always stumbling her sentences. It was honestly adorable.
With their artifact in hand, the 4 of them headed back to where they began, but not before running into a rather large and concerning Grimm, a sphinx. But the 4 surprisingly showed excellent teamwork and managed to slay the beast with relative ease and arrive back to professor Ozpin. He'd informed them that they finished initiation so quickly that they'd set a new Beacon record, something that hadn't been done for decades since a team known as STRQ attended the academy.
And after waiting for all the other teams to finish, they finally went to confirmation where the teams were officially made. Drake, Leena, Temair, and Amber formed Team Delta(DLTA) and would spend their remaining 4 years at beacon together. And alongside fellow teams RWBY and JNPR, all three might as well became legendary.
The 4 students quickly rose to the top of their class, other than member of team JNPR, Pyrrha Nikos, who was like a god. Anyways, things went well for the team, with Drake and Leena protecting Temair and Amber from those who were racist against them for being Faunus. In fact, Drake himself was like a constant bodyguard, even when he wasn't looking. And that was thanks to his Semblance.
In Remnant, every living person has something known as an Aura, a protective field generated by a person's life force which can slightly heal them and protect from some deadly attacks. And those who expand their auras unlock what's known as a Semblance, which is basically their own personal special ability. For Drake, his was "Cognition" and it basically gave him a personal radar, letting his see the auras of other things within 100 metres of himself.
Pretty much having eyes on the back of his head, this ability helps Drake keep track of everything on the battlefield, making it rather difficult to actually surprise and land hits on him. And it would come in handy out in the field when he and everyone else would be surrounded by Grimm. Hell, the ability even helped him with dealing with all those bullies against Temair, Leena, and even JNPR member, Jaune. Speaking of Jaune, his teammate Pyrrha and Drake actually started teaching him proper Huntsman skills since he hadn't learned any prior. Both turned out to be great teachers, with Jaune learning a mix of Vacuo and Atlas based techniques.
Things were all well, but once transfer students started arriving for the upcoming Vytal Festival tournament, things slowly began to go downhill. A gangster by the name of Roman Torchwick was smuggling loads of Dust to who knows where, and Team DLTA and RWBY caught wind of it and interfered. Torchwick, being the smug asshole he is, even gave Drake his nickname for life "Moose," and I can only assume it's because Drake was tall and well-built.
DLTA and RWBY specifically would run into Torchwick quite often, even when he was piloting a mech one time. But it would come to Leena and Ruby who would find his hideout while the two teams were out on a scouting mission with a teacher. They were captured by Torchwick's men, but Ruby was able to escape. And with the teams also discovering the hideout, Torchwick fled with Leena on a train which was headed for the heart of Vale, acting as a battering ram which would then cause negativity and bring upon a plague of Grimm.
The teams managed to get onto the train as it was leaving, and slowly make their way to the front where Torchwick was. By the end, only Drake and RWBY member, Blake, were left to contend with Torchwick at the front. However, upon arriving, Torchwick threatened to kill Leena, holding his cane gun to her head. And that's when something in Drake just snapped.
In that moment, Drake's rage took over. The scarring he'd received from the Griffon all those years ago suddenly turned a deep black colour, as did all of his veins. His body underwent a horrifying transformation, with him growing razor sharp fangs, claws on his right hand, his eyes turn blood red, and sharp spines protrude from his right arm and back. While it wasn't detected prior, it became clear that the Grimm blood that entered Drake's body did infect him after all.
Drake is the first known human/Grimm hybrid, and in his state, his physical strength sky-rockets, but at the cost of some of his sanity. He might as well be the hulk now because the angrier he gets, the stronger he becomes.
With some help from Blake, the two were able to rescue Leena from Torchwick, and while Drake wanted to kill him, he was held back by Leena who helped him regain control of himself. Drake turned back to normal, with a massive pulsing pain surging in his right arm now. But once that passed, all was well again. And after dealing with some Grimm that managed to invade the city of Vale, their jobs were done, and just in time for the upcoming tournament.
DLTA, along with RWBY, JNPR, and second year team CFVY(Coffee) all managed to qualify to compete in the tournament and represent their kingdom. The layout for it was simple, it consisted of 3 distinct rounds: teams, doubles, and then singles. After a team won the first round, they send 2 members on to the doubles, and then one to the final round should they win again, where all remaining combatants battle it out in a randomized bracket until only one is left standing.
Overall, it was actually team CFVY that was the favourite to win it all however, among all the first year teams in the competition, DLTA was the favourite, so that already said a lot about their skills if they were speculated to do better than a team like JNPR. They kicked off the tournament with a bang, facing off against a team from the Haven Academy of Mistral, RZOR.
Long story short, RZOR stood no chance. Leena pulled an Obi-Wan and took the high ground, controlling the enemies movements by firing at their feet. Drake dealt with RZOR's leader, and then Temair and Amber tag-teamed the other 3. And despite being outnumbered, those 2 were hardly tested, and after a while, all of RZOR was eliminated and DLTA moved on to the doubles round, sending Temair and Amber on to represent them. Team RWBY sent Weiss and Yang, JNPR sent Pyrrha and Nora, CFVY sent Coco and Yatsuhashi, and CMEN(Cinder's team which we call "Cement") sent on Mercury and Emerald.
Actually, we forgot to mention that last team. Before the tournament started, students from all the different kingdoms arrived to compete, with one team in particular seeming more peculiar than others. CMEN, led by everybody's most hated character, Cinder, aren't actually students, but more of an infiltration team working for a higher power who's looking to overthrow the society that's been built up, and to steal two distinct sources of power which we'll explain later on.
Anyways, DLTA had to go last in the doubles round, but that allowed them to watch all the teams who won, including all the ones listed before except for CFVY, and then they could form their strategy on who to send to the singles round of the tournament. When their turn finally came around, Temair and Amber did battle with another pair of Faunus from Atlas. This time, it wasn't a stomp. The match was a nail biter, and if it wasn't for Amber knocking herself and another opponent out of the arena, they might've actually lost. But with her sacrifice, DLTA advanced to the final round, along with 8 other teams. And they chose Amber to represent. She was the obvious choice as she was by far the strongest on the team thanks to her ultra powerful "Fortify" semblance.
The final 8 were set, and Amber was up first, facing off against fan favorite character, Sun. Their battle was far from one-sided, with neither gaining the upper hand even after Amber would activate her semblance. But Amber's absurd strength eventually wore Sun down and she knocked him out of the competition. DLTA advanced to the semi-finals.
But then the next match, everything started going downhill. Yang was set to face Mercury, and while the two fought pretty evenly, things turned for the worse when it was at its end. Now, to Yang and Leena, it looked as though Mercury was going to land a cheap shot when Yang had her back turned, so she retaliated. However, to the rest of the stadium, it just looked like Yang broke Mercury's leg for no reason. The tournament was postponed for the rest of the day to determine Yang's fate in it. Long story short, she was disqualified and essentially locked herself in her room, with Leena choosing to stay with her.
As for Mercury, it was said he was being air-evac'd to Mistral where his family was, with his teammate Emerald supposedly going with him. However, upon returning to the stadium, where JNPR member Pyrrha, and organic android, Penny were about to clash, Ruby and Drake quickly noticed something interesting. Sitting all the way across from them was actually Emerald. Knowing something was wrong, and also wanting to stop the fight as they knew Pyrrha would destroy Penny, Ruby and Drake both set out to find a way to hold off the battle. However.... they ran into a big problem. They managed to find a way up to the announcers booth, but Mercury stood in the way, looking fine, his leg not even broken at all.
With Mercury not letting them call their weapons, Drake and Ruby had to deal with him with just their skills alone. However, Drake had other plans. He told Ruby to go find another way up to the announcers booth and she hesitantly listened and ran off, leaving the two "friends" alone to brawl. Also, during the time that Grimm invaded Vale, Mercury and Emerald were able to catch a glimpse of Drake as he was reverting back to his human form, seeing the black scars on him before they turned back to normal, so he knew what Drake was. He told him he knew, but that he knew someone more powerful than even him. His alpha.
But Drake didn't really care at the time, so they shut up and fought. And having no weapon on him, Drake started off on the back end. Drake hasn't normally fought anyone who specializes in kicks, such as Mercury, so he had to try and adjust as the fight went along. He took blow after blow, even having bones break and a small part of his head split open, but even so, he stood strong. Using his Cognition semblance, he focused hard on it so he could only see Mercury's aura readings. By focusing on a single object, he can essentially start to read their movements just as they begin to move, acting a bit like precognition, or the ability to see the future. Drake used this to evade Mercury's kicks and break one of his arms. And when Mercury was wide open, he dealt the finishing blow as he rammed Mercury's head into the side of a wall, with it even cracking a bit.
But hearing screams coming from the arena stopped him from going to the booth. Instead, he went back and saw how the match and Pyrrha had ended. Penny was in pieces, with Pyrrha having shredded her with her Polarity semblance. And with all the negative emotions spreading throughout the coliseum, it essentially became a massive beacon(no pun intended) for Grimm to ransack. The Grimm quickly invaded Vale, Beacon, and managed to get into the arena as people were fleeing. And, to make matters worse, the Atlas army was also flying above the city in their huge cruisers, but someone had planted a virus and took control of all their androids and mechs, turning them against each other.
With an army of Grimm, androids, and an enemy terrorist group known as the White Fang running rampant, it came down to all the Huntsmen and Huntresses to defend Vale. And having gained their weapons, Drake and Ruby set out to the cruiser that had been taken over and was sending the signals to turn the androids.
Using a rocket propelled locker, because Beacon can afford those kinds of things, Drake and Ruby rode that thing and crash-landed onto the top of the cruiser. But to make matters worse, yet another Grimm showed up, and this one would prove to be a much bigger problem than most others. This Grimm was a Wyvern, but its size was massive, basically as big as these air cruisers which are twice as large as our real world aircraft carriers.
The wyvern blew through one of the cruisers, not the one that the two were on, before swopping down over Beacon. Seeing this huge beast appear meant Drake and Ruby had to hurry so they could help their friends who were fighting on the ground. But, of course, they met opposition on the cruiser. Roman Torchwick was on the scene, along with his henchwoman, Neopolitan(Yes, that's actually her name and she has all the colours you're thinking of). While Torchwick isn't much of a fighter, Neo certainly is, being able to fool people easily with her illusion semblance. She nearly threw Ruby from the cruiser, with her hanging from the side. And as for Drake, Neo first disarmed him and threw his weapon off the cruiser, with it now being gone forever. But she continued the torment and impaled Drake right through his chest with her umbrella blade.
But that's when it happened! With all the pain surging through him, and the anger he'd built up before from fighting Mercury, Drake began to change once again, with those Grimm features coming out to play. Pretty much immune to pain now, Drake busted through Neo's illusions and he straight up launched her off the air cruiser, leaving only him and Torchwick to do battle as Ruby was only just climbing back up to safety. Buuuuuut, before Drake could go berserk on Torchwick, a Griffon landed on top of the cruiser and swallowed Torchwick whole. But the Griffon didn't attack Drake. Instead, it kinda rubbed against him, like a cat against your leg. Turns out, the Grimm blood running through Drake was from an alpha species, so to most Grimm, he's seen as their ruler and they don't challenge him.
The Grimm quickly fled, and while he still remained in his hybrid form, Drake gained control over his rage and was acting normal. Him and Ruby were finally able to to reach the controls of the cruiser, and activated its self-destruct sequence. Having no other choice but to jump, the two leapt off the cruiser, which was miles off the ground, and fell to Beacon below as the cruiser blew up. Ruby, using her sniper scythe, was able to slow their descent by using the recoil from her shots. It was a bit of a rough landing, but the two came out alright and could finally aid their companions.
But once they got onto the scene, everyone almost shot Drake as they thought he was a Grimm. Ruby cleared up the confusion though. But then things.... well, they got pretty bad. About a half an hour earlier, Yang, Blake, and Leena ran into this guy named Adam Taurus. Not only did he beat all of them, he severely injured each and every one of them. He stabbed Blake in her lower chest area, cut off Yang's right arm from her forearm down, and he stabbed Leena in her left eye and partially into her brain, putting her into a coma. How she didn't die is beyond me, but she might as well have.
While Drake was absolutely crushed by all this, he still somehow remained in control of himself. And with everyone now evacuating, it was now done to him, Ruby, and Weiss to head off to Beacon's tower to find where Jaune and Pyrrha had gone to, as no one had seen them anywhere prior.
They managed to arrive at the base of the tower, but the Wyvern flying above was spawning Grimm all over the place. The three had to face them before they got a chance to storm the tower. Ruby and Weiss tag-teamed a bunch while Drake used his newfound strength to rip others apart. Hell, he effortlessly ripped the jaw off an Ursa, then ripped one of his spines out of its back to impale another through its head. Now that's hardcore.
With them giving him an opening, Drake headed into the tower alone. Jaune had called the three just before they had arrived as well, saying he's safe but that Pyrrha was still at the tower. Drake climbed as fast as he could and arrived at the top to see only two people. One of which was Pyrrha, and the other, Cinder.
Pyrrha quickly explained the situation to Drake, saying that Cinder had acquired the powers of the Fall Maiden. In RWBY, a maiden is someone who possesses supernatural magic abilities. There's one to represent each of the 4 seasons, and Cinder had stolen the powers of the one who represented the season of Fall, meaning she's become busted.
But with Drake's entry on the scene, Cinder had different plans. Instead of her facing Pyrrha, she would get Drake to do it for her. You see, like Drake, Cinder was also part Grimm, and with her Maiden powers, she possessed greater strength than him. She was the Alpha to his alpha, just as Mercury had said to him before. She used her control to warp Drake's mind and turn him mad, making him do battle with Pyrrha. And with her not wanting to harm one of her close friends, it was tough for Pyrrha to do anything to Drake.
Their battle was long, but all good things must come to an end. Drake eventually landed devastating blows to Pyrrha, chomping down with his fangs first on her left shoulder, and then onto her right leg, slowing her down a lot and making it difficult for her to stand at all. And with her now down, Cinder came in to finish the job. In one swift moment, she completely incinerated Pyrrha, turning her into nothing but ashes in the wind.
Mere moments before this happened, Ruby actually arrived at the top of the tower. And seeing Pyrrha be killed, Drake actually came back to his senses. But then something miraculous occurred. Ruby's silver eyes began to glow with an intense light, engulfing both Cinder and Drake. The force from the light actually knocked Drake back and off the tower. With his Grimm features returning back to his body, he fell unconscious as he fell to the ground, landing hard at the bottom where Weiss was still fighting.
Weiss found Drake out cold on the ground, and a few minutes later, more of the Atlas military showed up and cleared out the remaining Grimm around Beacon. Weiss' father even showed up to forcibly take her back home to Atlas. But, seeing her friend hurt, Weiss was able to convince her father, Jacques, to take him with them to be treated. And so, Drake was taken back to Atlas, waking up a few days later where he was looked at by top scientists. But despite his scars on his right arm now being permanently black, and Drake not being able to move it at all, all the scientists brushed it off as nothing, they couldn't do anything about it.
For the next 8 months, Drake essentially became a slave to the Schnee family, with only Weiss and the head butler, Klein, treating him like an actual person. And yet, not once did Drake lose control and turn into his hybrid Grimm form. Yes, for 8 straight months, he was tormented and beaten and still did not turn. The sheer level of focus, calmness, and control he'd have to have is absolutely absurd.
There was one other person who cared for him there, and that was general Ironwood. He even offered Drake a chance to escape and attend Atlas Academy, but Jacques Schnee had too tight of a grip on the boy, so there was no chance Drake was going to leave for there. In fact, Jacques claims that, since he gave Drake all that treatment when he was taken back with them, that Drake owes him his life. When in reality, Weiss is the one who saved him, and all of Jacques treatments turned out to be duds. Something Drake brought up to Jacques quite often. And one day, at an opera after party, Drake and Weiss acted up because everyone else there was blind to what really happened at Beacon that day. Jacques told them both that they're basically prisoners now within the Schnee manor, and that Jacques would eventually give Drake a "suitable" punishment.
Drake didn't have to wait long for his punishment to come. Just 2 days later, Drake was called to his office. However, the moment he stepped in, Jacques' bodyguards beat the shit out of him. They then brought Drake before Jacques who now wielded a branding iron which bared the Schnee family crest. With this crest, Jacques would essentially own Drake now. He pressed it onto his back, lower left chest, and on his left cheek for extended periods of time, but still, Drake did not turn. He remained strong as he was taken back to Weiss who, finally, had some good news. Their chance to escape was finally here.
Thanks to Klein, he led Drake and Weiss through the manors secret passage ways until they reached a hangar, where they paid off a pilot to take them to Mistral. Hell, Klein even gave Drake his old weapon since he had no use for it anymore. Klein claims this things has "the power of a shotgun with the range of a sniper rifle," and let me tell ya, it certainly lives up to that potential. And Drake named his new weapon "Hammer Bolt," which honestly sounds more suiting for a weapon Nora would wield, but who cares, it sounds awesome!
https://youtu.be/vR1_zXk5a0k
This impressive hand cannon, while not quite as versatile as Drake's sky blazer, brings even more firepower. Able to hold 16 shots per clip, it can wield fire, ice, and explosive Dust types. And, when it morphs into its blade form, the blade itself can also wield one of those said Dust types. Plus, with a range of nearly 7000 feet and the firepower to blow down steel doors in just a few shots, it certainly does wield much power.
So Drake and Weiss flew off to Mistral, but obviously, they didn't know some of their friends were headed there too. Not like it mattered since, when a pack of these bee Grimm thingy's attacked, they were shot down and crash landed. While the pilot died, the two survived but were captured by a tribe of bandits, which were led by a woman named Raven Branwen, who just so happens to be Yang's mother. Her plan was the ransom Weiss back to Jacques for a lot of cash, and try the same with Drake as she saw the emblem branded on his face, thinking he was important to the Schnee's as well. There's no chance in hell she would get a single penny for Drake though.
But their captivity would not last long. The very next day, Yang and Leena, who had woken up from her coma, arrived at the bandits camp. Originally, Yang and Leena were just their to ask Raven to take them to Mistral, since her semblance let her make portals to people she bonded with, A.K.A Yang's uncle, Qrow who they knew was traveling with Ruby. But, upon discovering Drake and Weiss there, things changed a bit. Drake and Weiss were freed so I fight wouldn't break out and an emotional reunion ensued.
But shortly after that, the 4 of them spoke with Raven, who gave them a whole lecture about Ozpin. He's not to be trusted, mainly because of all the dark secrets he's been hiding from everyone. But the kids still chose to trust in their headmaster, and Raven allowed them to travel to Mistral anyways. She opened up a portal for them, and in just mere moments, there they were, meeting Qrow who showed them all to Ruby, Amber, and everyone else who had traveled to Mistral. Yet another emotional reunion. But the most interesting thing of all was the appearance of a young boy named, Oscar.
Turns out, Oscar is Ozpin reincarnated, as he was killed during the battle of Beacon. They both share a soul in Oscar's body, and he explained to the 4 who just showed up of their situation. They were in Haven academy, in the heart of Mistral, and they were headed off to meet with its headmaster, Leo Lionheart, who apparently had groundbreaking news for them.
Buuuuuut, turns out it was a trap as Leo was working with Salem, the woman who's been behind all this chaos. He brought everyone into a trap, revealing Cinder and her forces, along with Raven, were there as well. And naturally, if you were Drake, seeing Cinder would want you to GTFO. But he couldn't even think of running as she started commanding him again. But this time, she pushed him even further.
Upon placing her Grimm left arm onto Drake's head, he began to transform, not into his hybrid form, but into something new and much more deadly. With his size increasing, his skin turning a pitch black, razor sharp claws, dragon-like wings, and just a bunch more changes, Drake had taken to his true Grimm form. And coincidentally, this form was also known as a "Drake." Standing nearly 80ft in height, and well over 100ft in length from nose to tail, Drake was a true monster of a Grimm, being able to breath fire as well.
Under Cinder's control, Drake was forced to attack his friends. Leena and Amber took on the burden of trying to take him down while everyone else faced their own opponent. The two struggled, with only Amber really being able to hurt him a bit, but that required her to use her semblance. And to make matters much worse, the White Fang had also invaded Haven, threatening to destroy it. Things seemed bleak for the good guys, but their backup soon arrived. Blake and Temair had brought their own army of Faunus to defend Haven from the White Fang, and things quickly even out.
And in the middle of the chaos, Ruby's silver eyes started glowing again like before at Beacon. Drake was engulfed in the light again, but unlike what happens to normal Grimm, which are turned to stone, Drake remained in his Grimm form but seemed to fall unconscious. And while he was out, friends began to suffer from some casualties. Most notably, Amber fought against this guy named, Hazel, whose semblance let him block out all pain. He took all of Amber's attacks and ran her semblance and aura dry, leaving her wide open. And then Hazel pulled a Bane to Batman as he smashed Amber's back down onto his knee, shattering her spine and paralyzing her from the neck down.
But pretty much right after, Drake woke up, still in his Grimm form but with total control of himself. He bit down onto Hazel's upper body and torched him from inside his mouth before tossing him through several walls! Yeah, Grimm Drake in control is still brutal then when he was being controlled.
With the fighting coming to an end, Drake, Leena, and Temair followed after Raven and Cinder who went down to Haven's vault, where a mystical artifact was kept. Each of the Huntsmen academies hold one of these artifacts, and the vaults can only be opened by a specific seasonal maiden, and in this case, it was the Spring Maiden who was Raven.
When they got there, Raven and Cinder were in a brawl, with the door to the artifact already opened. But seeing backup arrive, Raven backed off to let the three take on Cinder themselves. Now, you might think all of them, even Grimm Drake, taking on a Maiden like Cinder would be suicide, but it actually wasn't. Cinder had only been a Maiden for a few months at this point and didn't have total control over her powers, so the three faired better than you might've imagined. And, thanks to Ruby also hurting Cinder with her silver eyes before, Cinder couldn't focus and take control of Drake anymore.
The 4 did battle, with each attack Cinder making having the potential to kill any of them. Or so they thought. When Cinder tried to use the same attack she did to incinerate Pyrrha, Drake was able to take not 1, but 3 of them consecutively before retaliating. And after being impaled by Drake's spear-like tail, stabbed by Temair's immensely strong katana, and shot through her cheek and frozen by Leena, did Cinder finally fall. With her being frozen and weakened, she couldn't break free and fell into a massive chasm below the vault, with her assumed to be dead now.
And with Raven just up and leaving, and Drake finally returning to his human form, they acquired the artifact, a mystic lamp, and returned to the surface. And seeing as they came back up and Cinder did not, all of her forces got the hell out of there quickly. At last, the good guys got a meaningful win. And seeing as it was their best option now, and smartest option too, the whole group was now off to Atlas so they could see general Ironwood and have his army guard the artifact.
Traveling by train, they were to arrive in the nearest port city at the north end of Anima in just a few hours. However, the train was attacked by Grimm. And with Drake substantially weakened from his fight with Cinder, him, and team JNPR stayed within the train to guard the civilians and Amber while everyone else climbed on top of the train to clear out the Grimm. But the weather conditions were far from friendly and everyone on top was blown off, the artifact included, so Drake and the rest arrived in the port city without them.
But after a few days, the rest arrived, but the news they brought was less than nice. They ended up using the artifact, and inside of it was this genie lady who could answer 2 questions. She used to have 3 but 1 was used up already. They told Drake and the rest about what they were really facing. Turns out, Ozpin and this Salem lady have lived for thousands of years, being around the time when gods actually lived on earth. Ozpin died one day and Salem offered her life to have him live again. And while the gods eventually did revive him, they cursed them both with immortality, with Ozpin being resurrected every time he died, and Salem not being able to die or age at all. And eventually, this drove Salem mad. Seeing everyone die around her took her over the edge, and it sparked a darkness within her. She eventually dunked herself in this black liquid that was spawning Grimm, and it turned her into what she is today, their queen.
And hearing that there was no true way to kill Salem, everyone was crushed and started questioning about what they were actually trying to fight for. If they couldn't slay her, how could they truly win this secret war of theirs? But, while they could not kill her, they could still stop her, and that seemed to be enough to bring their drive again. Their plan now was to get to Atlas, but to do that, it involved stealing an airship from an Atlas base in this port city. Using Weiss and Drake, who acted as her servant, they would act as if they wanted passage back to Atlas so they could go home. They were granted permission, and once they took off, they threw out the pilot.
Then, this little old woman named Maria Calavera, who also had the silver eyes as Ruby but was blind, piloted the airship to the pickup point to get everyone else. But the Atlas base figured things out when the ship wouldn't report, and so they sent in the big guns to stop them from escaping. Turns out, this little Atlas base has a GIGANTIC MECH! WTF!?
Standing over 200ft tall, the Colossus mech is huge, able to do battle with almost any Grimm type. The group struggled to battle against this thing, with almost every strategy being shut down by its offensive and defensive capabilities. But Drake had an alternative. While he couldn't reach the anger levels to change himself, id he received enough pain, then he would certainly turn. And so, he had Weiss impale him 3 times in his chest, and it proved enough for Drake to fully turn Grimm once more.
Ever wanted to know what would happen when giant mech meets giant dragon? Well it's like paper meeting scissors. Drake absolutely wrecked this thing, despite being smaller in size! But don't forget, he can compare to the giant Wyvern Grimm which blew through one of the Atlas air cruisers, so this mech shouldn't have been much of a problem.
With the mech down, and after clearing out a massive leviathan Grimm from the port city, the group could finally head off to Atlas. But upon arriving, the Atlas military looked as though it was prepared for war, with air cruiser flying everywhere around the upper city. The group landed in the lower city of Mantle, and from there they planned to find a way to the upper city of Atlas and find general Ironwood. They were denied access before which is why they had to land in Mantle.
Think of Atlas and Mantle like Heaven and Earth. One is super nice, and the other is super bleak and depressing. Mantle is essentially the slums. And after clearing out a few Grimm, everyone was taken by surprise as they were captured by a specialized group of Atlas soldiers known as the "Ace Operatives," who, in Remnant, are the top Huntsmen and Huntresses in the world.
A few months ago, Drake and Weiss actually met these 5, and were able to convince them to let them go. Drake had actually made friends with each of them, especially Harriet, the girl on the far right. Actually, to make things easy, we'll say who each of the five are so you may not get confused. From right to left, we have: Harriet, Elm, Clover, Marrow, and Vine.
The Ace Ops brought the group to Ironwood, who welcomed Drake and Weiss back and listened to everything they had to say. He even treated any who were injured, including Amber who was given cybernetic implants in her spine which let her move once again. Ironwood actually gave Drake a replica of his old weapon, Sky Blazer, too, so now he was dual-wielding! And Ironwood was even up to a plan of his own which would help out all of Remnant. When Beacon fell, all communications went dark around the world as well. However using the coliseum used for the Vytal Tournament, they could use it as a broadcast station and bring the world together once again.
But a lot of work had to be done first. Supply runs would be attacked by Grimm constantly, making it difficult to get everything ready for the new station. So, teaming up with the Ace Ops, everyone chipped in to get this operation underway. And it wasn't just the station they were helping, it was all Atlas and Mantle. Whether large or small jobs, it proved to be a big help and everyone, for the time being, felt safe.
But eventually, Weiss' father, Jacques, caught wind that she and Drake were back in Atlas, and he arrived to take them back as he claimed they were his property. Somehow, Drake still didn't go berserk on this bastard, but it wasn't needed. It was discovered that Jacques was working together with a higher up under Salem so he could win an election to overthrow Ironwood. He was taken into custody in an oh so sweet moment. Hell, Ironwood himself took out the man who worked for Salem as well, Arthur Watts. But, in a way, his plan was to be captured all along so he could give Ironwood a messaging Grimm.
Meanwhile, Penny, the android girl from before who had been repaired, was also helping the group with their operation, clearing out Grimm as some negativity was starting to grow within mantle as they'd been helped far less than before. When the group went to Ironwood to see why reinforcements had stopped populating Mantle, he gave them the bad news. He showed them the messaging Grimm given to him.
Salem was displayed before them, and she told them all she was on her way, preparing to kill them all and that she had acquired the lamp artifact. So it turns out that Neo, the ice cream girl who worked for Torchwick, came back to the scene and stole the artifact to give to Cinder, who was sadly still alive. And then those two handed off the artifact to Salem. She told them they were essentially fucked as the army of Grimm she was bringing could not be beat, and with her immortality, they didn't stand a chance and will die.
And with this terrible news, Ironwood had to change to drastic measures. Using the winter maiden's powers, he would acquire the artifact hidden within Atlas and use it to send the upper city into space where Salem could not harm the people. In fact, he'd even told Drake about this months ago if things should go south, telling him that, while they could not save everyone, they could at least ensure people do survive. So, Drake, as well as the Ace Ops, were on board with this plan, while everyone else was against it. Battle lines were drawn, and Ironwood and Drake left the scene, leaving everyone else to do battle with the Ace Ops. Tensions were already high between the two groups anyways as Clover had been discovered dead with Qrow's weapon impaling him.
And in the midst of all this, Cinder tried stealing the powers of the winter maiden as well, but things didn't work out for her and the powers were passed onto Penny. Penny sided with Ruby's forces, and so a manhunt was put out to find them all, because without Penny, Ironwood and Drake couldn't enact their plan. Oscar eventually caught up with Ironwood and convinced him to change his plans, but with Ironwood hearing about Ozpin's past and how much he'd lied to him already, he knew he couldn't trust him. Drake shot Oscar and made him fall off of Atlas and into Mantle, securing his position on Ironwood's side. And with the loyalty clear, Ironwood filled in Clover's spot and gave Drake the title of Ace Operative.
With his mission now being to hunt down his friends and retrieve the winter maiden, Drake didn't hesitate when Ruby, Weiss, Blake, Nora, Leena, Amber, and Penny broke into the Atlas facility to steal some data. And after they managed to separate Penny from the rest, the entirety of the Ace Ops did battle with her, Drake having to go into his hybrid Grimm form to even the playing field and match Penny in physical strength. And eventually, they wore her down and very nearly captured her. But Ruby and all them found a way to regroup and the Ace Ops were outnumbered. Leena and Amber tried to convince their former leader to change his mind and help them instead, but Drake believed Ironwood's plan was indeed the best, as it would ensure people would in fact survive what was coming, drawing the battle lines between them once again.
And that's actually it for Drake so far in terms of his story, because Volume 8 of RWBY is still going on as we speak and that's all he could've done so far. So, let's get to them feats!
To determine all of Drake's feats, we'll look at him in his human form and his full Grimm form. His hybrid form isn't much stronger than his human, so there's no reason to determine its feats as well. Now, in his human form, Drake's strongest feat would be lifting up the android, Penny, above his head.
Penny is about the same height as Ruby, who stands about 5'4" in height. Assuming She's made out of titanium and taking in her size, Penny should way nearly 700 pounds. This would mean Drake is almost as strong as the strongest man in the world in real life.
But this obviously pales in comparison to the strength he has in his true Grimm form. Now, his feats in his draconic form aren't too impressive, but since Drake is an Alpha level Grimm, we can compare to him to other Alpha's. Specifically, the Wyvern that attacked Beacon. This Wyvern was able to blow through an Atlas air cruiser, which is double the size of real life aircraft carriers, being nearly a kilometer in length, over 200 metres wide, and over 150 metres in height. And assuming these cruisers are made of titanium, the strength to destroy one of these is absolutely crazy.
The Wyvern had to have struck with a force of over 30 Kilotons of force, meaning Drake can strike with over double the power of the atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima! WTF!?
Not much in the world of Remnant can stand up to his sheer power, and even Cinder, who normally could take control over him, cannot anymore as Drake had bested her back in Haven, giving him dominance over her own Alpha status.
And then there's his speed. In Drake's human form, he was able to dodge automatic fire from an assault rifle style of weapon. Bullets typically travel at around 1400 feet per second, which is around 950 miles per hour. When fired at him, Drake was about 20ft away, so to react in that time and dodge the bullets, he had to have moved around 78% bullet speed, or around 740 MPH.
When in his Grimm form, Drake's fastest showing of speed was when he was able to react and block Ruby when using her semblance, Speed. When using this, Ruby's top recorded speed rests at just under 200MPH, so it's safe to say Drake can react to this speed as well as he had tagged her. So, Drake is actually faster in his human form than he is as a Grimm.
But then there's his durability. In his human form, Drake's top feat for this would be when he fell from the top of Beacon Tower. Being over 300ft tall and accounting for typical fall speed, Drake would've hit the ground with the force of nearly 2 tons of TNT.
But his Grimm form puts that to shame. This form, as we've seen, has taken Cinder's incinerating blasts, up to three of them in a row. In order to incinerate a person like Cinder did to Pyrrha, she'd have to use heat temperatures of at minimum 100,000 degrees fahrenheit. So Drake can take the heat pressure from a god damn hydrogen bomb.
But even that doesn't come close to what he can do compared to the Wyvern Grimm. It destroyed the Atlas cruiser which then blew up in its face, and it was totally fine! Destroying the massive cruiser is one thing, but to survive the resulting explosion afterwards is way more impressive! Hell, when the cruiser blew up, it caused two more cruisers to blow up at the same time, and the Wyvern was in the middle of all this! That's nearly 100 Kilotons of TNT that Drake can survive! Honestly, how the hell is Salem supposed to kill this guy?
So Drake can hit absurdly hard, move almost faster than a bullet, and survive several small nukes. But he has many more feats to his name.
Feats:
-Killed 3 Grimm in a second with his quickdraw
-Survived being shot and impaled multiple times
-Held back rage for 8 straight months while in slavery
-Matched the android, Penny, in physical strength
-Defeated: Ryft, Neo, the Leviathan Grimm, the Colossus Mech, Penny(with aid from the Ace Ops), and Cinder(With aid from Leena an Temair)
This might just be the most overpowered RWBY character we've seen to date! It's no wonder why Ozpin made him the leader of team DLTA. Natural born leader, super skilled Huntsman, and just straight up power incarnate. Not too many can stand up to Drake, no matter which form he's in.
And as Volume 8 continues, it'll be interesting to see where Drake's choices take him, especially as he's sided against his friends. But it's also been speculated that he's really been manipulated by Salem all along, ever since he first went full Grimm, but no evidence has been shown yet to prove said idea.
Regardless, this dude is a monster, literally and figuratively. Should you have to face him, pray he doesn't go full Grimm. If he does, you're just serving yourself up on a silver platter for him to absolutely wreck your shit. The world of Remnant can feel safe knowing the greatest Huntsman is on its side!
"I don't care what people say, I am on your side. I'll defend you guys till the very end, even if they call me a freak as well. And if they wanna continue, then i'll break their legs." Drake to Temair and Amber (Team DLTA)
