the first thing the girl noticed as she woke was sunlight, golden as it filtered through the trees above her. then came the dew that wet her skin and tingled along her plump lips, which lit with a smile at the sensation. the ache of her limbs came next, which she was quick to stretch out with a heady yawn. and then her favorite part; an unfurl of wings wide. the force propelled the girl skyward, a peal of laughter emanating from her as she floated above the ground. such was the way most mornings went for the fae maiden celine, who spent her days lazing about in this enchanted forest of which she called her home. her kind were known to humans as tricksters, as two-faced beings who'd do just about anything to steal your name and drag you into their realm unbidden. they were an object of fear, of legend. that however, was only half the story. although the long spun tales of her kind rang true in some respects, they lacked one very crucial detail.
the fae only took those who wished to be taken.
floating along the trails of wisteria, celine could faintly recall when she herself had lost herself to the world of fae. when she'd fled her previous life behind, and given herself away in the pursuit of eternal bliss. it wasn't a choice she regretted in any sort of the word. rather, she couldn't imagine living her life any differently up to this point. the same was to be said for her brothers and sisters that flitted along the treeline with her, whispering of legends unheard and sights unseen. her kind wasn't an all-together social bunch, but that had never bothered celine much. she was free to converse with nature as she pleased, so there was no way she could ever claim boredom.
and her days only got more interesting when the trees got to chattering. their voices piqued the interest of the winds after all, and the wind could carry sound for miles. sounds like...human voices? goodness, it must've been a good several years since she'd heard such a timbre. most humans knew not to step into this hallowed ground, for fear of the faeries wretched wrath, but from the sounds of these people...they weren't local. their accents weren't like anything celine had ever heard, and celine had been around many a person when she'd been human. interesting indeed...enough to pull her from usual plans of soaking in the sun's warmth.
fluttering along the whispering winds, celine followed carefully after the voices, her curiosity pushing her ever forward. she came to a jolted stop as the voices reached a cacophony of volume, unprepared by how fast her wings had carried her thus far. sucking in a breath, celine let her being melt into the greenery around her, camouflaging herself from the humans in case they decided to turn hostile. it seemed to be a pair of men; a blonde and brunette respectively. the two seemed to be rather enamored in whatever conversation they'd been having, and celine craned her neck down to try and catch their words.
"stace, come along, you know faeries are just child's play," the brunette pleaded with the blonde beside him, who resolutely continued forth. "i won't know unless i try, hamish," was the blonde's stalwart reply, a stomp to his step as he marched on. the brunette huffed a rather frustrated sound, the likes of which had a celine giggling. the sound echoed throughout the trees, which echoed her same laughter and sent it forth towards the travelers along the way. it stopped the two men in their tracks, with the blonde nearly tripping upon a fallen log. another musical peal of her laughter bloomed forth, and the men began to survey their surroundings with apprehension.
"show yourself," came a commanding voice, that of which she was surprised originated from the blonde. shrugging, celine let her glamour wash away, slowly revealing herself to the mortals that stood before you. "what business do you have in this forest, dear travelers?" celine's honeyed voice rang forth, her form floating high above the heads of those below her. "i've a wish. your kind grants wishes, do they not?" the blonde questioned, to which the fae girl snickered. "perhaps you've mistaken my kind for another; we fae only deal in trades here." hopping along the branches, celine peered down at the pair as they talked in hushed whispers, the likes of which she'd let them keep for themselves. after a moment of deliberation, the blonde lifted his head once more, and called once again.
"name your price and it's yours." said he.
a smile touched upon her lips.
"your name will suffice." said she.
