Backstory: Mateo grew up with a normal family. He had a few rough patches but nothing was ever horrible. He had a younger sister, Olivia, and his parents. As he entered his teenage years he noticed that he had started to develop some sort of powers. Things were weird for a while until his parents found out. He didn't think they'd care too much but he was wrong. His parents had actually been working as scientists that study and experiment on superhumans. Despite him being their kid they experimented on him anyway. He was kept as a lab rat for a little over a year. Their experiments enhanced his powers but made them more unstable. He wasn't the only Teen there at the time though. There was a girl, Angelica. She had telepathic powers though it was much more than that. Mateo and her talked and eventually became close friends because of the circumstances. During one of the experiments on her something went wrong. She ended up dying that day but not all of her disappeared. She had implanted a piece of her mind into Mateo's. She can "talk" to him but she can also take control for short periods of time. One day while Mateo was sleeping, Angelica took control. She started a fire in the lab where the flammable chemicals we're which caused an explosion. Mateo took back control but not in time. The whole facility had caught fire by the time he had taken back control. He didn't know what had happened but he did know that everyone was dead. Angelica had taken revenge on Mateo's parents and the other scientists by using him. Though he didn't like his parents their deaths still crushed him mostly because it meant his sister had to go into foster care. The authorities and firemen eventually came but there were no other survivors. Mateo was labelled as a murderer. No one knew the horrors of what had gone on in that facility and now they never would. Mateo spent the next year's of his life going in and out of detention facilities to keep people away from him but to still give him an education. Since he was a minor they couldn't arrest him yet. Eventually he was sent to Ace Academy because no one could prevent him from doing horrible things. He had accidently killed a few other people, and seriously injured many others though no one knew it was Angelica and not him. She wants revenge on mankind for their treatment of superhumans. She wants blood and she's gotten it so far. Mateo hasn't said anything about the voice in his head though and he probably never will. He only hopes that someone will be able to help him keep control of himself and his powers. Though right now he believes the only solution is to end his life. He wants to be well enough to take care of his sister and help her as she grows up.

Powers/Skills: He has the ability to control fire. He can light his whole body on fire without consequence though it does take a lot out of him. He can control fire that he produces as well as an outside source of fire like a campfire or candle. He does have a small healing factor as well but it's not really noticable.

Likes: Being alone, his sister, not being bothered, peaceful atmospheres, nature, not using his powers, music, and being in control.

Dislikes: Angelica, his parents, losing control, hurting people, anyone trying to talk to him, anyone bringing up his past, using his powers in general, and being in stressful situations.

Personality: Before the whole experiment part Mateo was outgoing, kind, funny, and really just a goofball. He loved hanging out with his friends and always cracked jokes. After his parents did everything to him he became quiet and distant from everyone. He can also be a bit rude and blunt but that's to keep people away. He purposefully keeps people away though by withholding information he is just hurting himself. He keeps everything to himself because the last person he trusted ended up turning him into a murderer. He seems very sinister but in reality he needs someone to help him. Someone that understands what he's going through and how to help or stop him when he is out of control. He has yet to find someone like that though he isn't really looking.

Other: When Angelica takes control there is a distinct personality difference. She is insane and just out for blood. She's very outgoing and confident unlike Mateo who is quiet and distant. Another distinct feature when Angelica is in control is that Mateo's dark brown eyes turn into a bold green color. This indicates that he's being controlled though no one has really picked up on that yet. Mateo is somewhat popular because his story was in the news. Not the one you might think. He is mostly famous for being a young murderer. No one knows his condition or what actually happened. All they know is that he killed people. He's known as the "Diablo de Ojos Rojos" because when he uses his powers to their full extent he causes a lot of destruction and his eyes glow red.
