Background: Born thanks to her adoptive mother burning a fire for seven years straight (none of the Sanchez's like the cold all that much), Maria grew up in a single parent household. Extra money was a rarity so when she was old enough, she started doing her utmost to make it less so. From shovelling snow to babysitting (something she often did alongside her older sister), Maria refused to be detered by anything. And when she noticed she was getting paid less than the boys on her block for the same work (aka snow shovelling)... She quickly became her town's resident vocal feminist. When she turned 18, she joined their local fire department, figuring she could use her powers to save lives albeit in a sneaky way. The men there immediately learnt not to mess with her.

"But Maria~ You're so pretty! You totally have a shot at winning!" Valentina whined, pouting at her inhuman sister and giving her the best puppy dog eyes she could muster. "And think about it this way, you could both get a bunch of money for mom as well as institute feminism as the norm."

Maria tensed before relaxing, tapping the side of her cup as if the idea hadn't occurred to her and she was now mulling it over. Considering she originally dismissed the idea of the Selection outright, she probably didn't have this idea beforehand. "... Alright. But I'm not gonna give it my all."
