E P I S O D E - 50
"Episode 50 - Save Her."
I had hogtied Capone so he couldn't move, duck tapes his mouth so he couldn't shout when he came to. Darkness probably surrounded him, the car jerking and turning every now and then, not knowing where he was being taken or how long he'd have to suffer.
Elena probably felt that way. A nine-year-old child, taken from to be brutalized and tormented for what? Only human beings tortured others for sports unlike any other species on Earth. How is that a progress for human kind?
A small part of me was glad with the lack of progress because it allowed me to become the killer I am today. What I was capable of. To keep my mind of Elena, I thought back to my first mission as a member of SEAL team 5. It was in Serbia, where we had to take out an underground organisation that was smuggling guns across the border to a Romanian drug lord.
Our mission was the take out their arms supply, minimise their ammunitions and then construct a full-face attack. When we were done, our rendezvous point was way up in the mountains bordering Hungary. The mission was successful but when we arrived at the mountains, we ventured into a wolf pack territory.
Some of us were quick to climb the trees but we still needed to head towards the border. That's when I used my sniper skills to take out the wolves one by one in the dark with night vision goggles. To be honest, I felt guilty about killing them than the men back in the compound that we left bloodied.
My team leader was so impressed, he started calling me wolf and it stuck.
The wolf tattoo on Elena's back.
I felt sick.
Suddenly, my phone started to ring with Jamie's name across it.
"Yes." I tried to sound casual, like I didn't leave a trail of dead bodies.
"Bro, Capone's gone. Jeremiah found three bodies in your room with Yahsiko's head chopped off. He called Jude. He's really fucking here. In New Jersey. We're on our way there. Whatever you do, don't go there." He warned.
"Elena is there." Her flailing body flashed before my eyes, being held up by brute men who looked like a monster's minions.
"FUCK." A whizz of air crackled through the speaker. "Alright, what do you need." He sounded like he was whispering now and by talking to him, I was putting him in a much dangerous place.
"Nothing. You don't stall them, just do whatever it is that they had asked of you and don't try to stop them. Stay alive and stay well. Just tell Jake to disappear and that a guy called Nathan Ross would come to him for our I.D. About 5'11 Asian American, he's going to pass that along to me."
"Sure. Anything else?" I could barely hear him.
"Yes." I paused. "Take care." I wanted to apologise for putting him and Jake in this situation. They didn't deserve that.
Cutting the call, I quickly picked up Yashiko's phone to get the direction of the track. My stomach settled when I realised that I was only one turn away. Looking around, I found a parking space not too far away from the where the other phone's signal was coming from.
Looking around, I found myself in a fun down area with abandoned buildings populated with hoarders and drug dealers. There weren't many activities going but the building that the signal of the phone was coming from was heavily guarded with armed men who tried to look like they were just lounging around.
I could spot their gun from miles away. I needed a distraction. I needed to find a way inside the building and probably have to go floor to floor to find her. My eyes landed on the building right next to the one with odd number of illuminated windows and heavy presence of security guards. I looked at the window on the fourth floor and they lacked bars on them and I could easily jump over to the main building.
But my problem was diversion. I needed something big to get them out of the building so I could look for Elena without being shot in the back. If I was dead, who would save her? No.
Then, I did what a lone solider would do. Set a decoy.
I crawled over to the back seats and took out the night vision goggles form the side of my tool bag. Opening my military bag pack, I found the grenade. Feeling around, I found the flexible steel wire and cut about a metre off before tying it to the key ring of the grenade.
I took the duct tape and tied grenade out of the car. The street lamps where busted which was good for me because of the night vision goggles. Discretely, I opened the trunk to find Capone staring at me wide eyed.
"GMMM." He made a noise from deep within his throat, trying to move at the same time. His hands were tied to his ankle behind his back. I smiled at my handy work. He looked like a folded human dumpling. He literally couldn't move.
The white light flashed when I took a picture of him with Yashiko's phone, then taped the body of the grenade to the side of the trunk and lowered the top making sure it didn't move up while I tied the string to it. Once I had successfully tied it, started to lower it slowly. Bending down, I looked Capone in the eyes, even though he couldn't see mine.
His eyes watered over, forehead drooped. His words tried to burst through his throat but I felt zero sympathy for him even if he had never hurt Elena physically but he enabled it.
"It's time for you to die." I slammed it shut.
The empty rooms of the abandoned buildings smelled like piss and drugs. The off white walls were dirty with graffiti covering almost all of them. Cob webs, dirt, random woods panels and barrel drums spattered around the whole area. I stopped on the fourth floor and wove through the maze of dark hallways until I came across the room that lead straight to the window of the main building.
I flipped the night vision goggles over and took Yashiko's phone out. Immediately, I opened the text messages between him and this unknown number. Attaching the flash photo of Capone, who looked scared shitless and another one of the guards outside, I pressed send.
The tracking was connected still so I set the phone on the ground and smashed it with the heel of my foot. From the angle of the photo's it looked like they were taken opposite of the building where as I was standing right next to them.
I had too many bags on me so dropped both by the window, planned on finding Elena, transfer her back into this building and sneak out from the back windows. There were some random crates lying around, which I used to hide the bags temporarily.
Satisfied with on the spot planned, I waited. With my heart beat steady, hope at the end of the tunnel, I patiently waited. I couldn't figure out what floor she was in but suddenly, loud voices and frantic footsteps outside the building.
Slowly, guards started pouring out of the building, allowing me some time to get ready. I climbed on to the window sill, surrounded by darkness, I waited. The dirty glass window was already half broken but I needed it all gone before I could enter.
Counting my breaths, I stayed as calm as possible until what I was really waiting for.
Suddenly, a loud boom shook the ground under me and I jumped straight in. This wasn't the only broken window sound which I was glad about. I hadn't planned to park near an abandoned laundrette with half broken glass for walls.
The only gears I had were my weapons on my body and a couple of grenades in my pocket. I landed on my feet with shards shattering around me. I didn't wait around to marvel the fire mushroom that tried to reach for the skies but fell short. The warmth that I felt on my back and the light it provided only lasted about a couple of seconds until I exited the dingy room.
I heart shouts and screams and I only had about 10 to 15 minutes before the first responders showed up. Cops didn't care what happened down here so I knew I had some time before they showed up.
Suddenly, I heard a shriek in the darkness. A loud, high pitched fighter's voice form down below but not in distance.
"Elena." I breathed.
