( 𝟎𝟏𝟎 ) just a mountain lion

'the tell'

A MOUNTAIN LION. THAT'S what Lexi had seen the other night. It was just a rare occurrence that the animal had somehow managed to make it that far into town from the woods, and the authorities were currently dealing with it.
She knew that's not what she saw, but the fact that she had been told over and over that she was simply imagining things, was beginning to get on her damn nerves. She wasn't crazy - and she didn't imagine things, Lexi was also sure that Jackson saw the same thing as her.

Lydia, on the other hand, didn't have the same thoughts as her twin sister, as she had been put on medication, and was talking crazy ever since they had gotten home. Lexi had been given the same medication, but she had been pretending to take it, not wanting to change the fact that she had not seen a mountain lion.
It was more like a beast..

She wanted to go to school, in fact, she had begged her mom to do so, but she had been outspoken, and had to stay home with her sister, who was currently out of her mind.
So, as of now, she was sat, bored out of her mind in her room, not knowing what she could do, or if she could even do it - she was thinking of going out and buying some food, but she had a feeling that her mom wouldn't let her.
Thinking that there was nothing else she could do, she decided that she could paint her nails, but that would require heading to her twins room, and she didn't know if she was up for doing that, yet.

But, with nothing else to do, she sighed, and made her way towards the bedroom across from the hall.
When she walked in, Lydia was lying in her bed, gazing at the wall, with a weird look on her face, like she was in a day-dream.
"Lyds?" She called, peeking her head through the door, she didn't exactly want to bother the girl, but she was bored.. When she didn't reply, Lexi opened the door all of the way, "You awake?"

When Lydia didn't reply to her, she sighed, looking towards the dresser by Lydia's bed, to see the red nail varnish she wanted to use on her nails, so, very quietly, she began to walk into the room, attempting to grab the polish.
However, when her sister heard movement at the end of net bed, she opened her eyes and smiled when she saw Lexi sneaking in. "Hey, Lex." She slurred.

Lexi smiled tightly at her sister, noticing that she was acting incredibly weird due to her medication..
"Morning. How you feeling?" She asked, deciding to take a seat on the side of the bed - she figured that she wasn't going to be able to leave without at least one protest from Lydia.

"Sleepy." She answered, yawning.
Lexi felt bad for Lydia, as, since they were kids, she had always been the one to take news in with no problems. Like when their parents would constantly argue, Lydia didn't know how to handle it. So, right now, it didn't surprise Lexi that this incident was effecting her in a different way..

As for Lexi, she knows what she saw, and there was no changing that, no matter how many times the doctor had told her that she had imagined the whole incident. She had lost count of the amount of times the doctor asked for her to go to a counsellor, which is why she had given up and claimed that she had indeed, seen a mountain lion and not a huge beast creature.
"That doesn't surprise me." Lexi laughed, watching as Lydia drifted in and out of consciousness.

After a few seconds passed, Lydia sat up and leaned towards her sister, "You're the best sister anyone could have ever asked for." She told Lexi, her drugs kicking in more than she thought they would.

Lexi couldn't hold back the smile on her face, knowing that Lydia never showed her feelings towards anyone, especially her family. She accepted the hug when Lydia came forwards, and Lexi stroked the hair out of her sisters face, loving the sisterly moment they were having.
It felt unreal, that Lexi heard Lydia compliment her, which is something that she never did. When she heard a small 'I love you', come from Lydia's mouth, her smile widened even further.

"I love you too, Lyds." She replied, never dropping the smile from her face - maybe this medication was something Lexi could get used to..

Later in the day, Lexi had set Lydia back to bed, and she had finally painted her nails to make herself feel a little better, due to the fact that she couldn't even leave the house - at least, on her own, that is..
Even though she may not love school, it was the one place that she actually wanted to be - but, she gathered that she would receive sympathy looks for the other night, so, maybe the best place to hide is her own room.

Just within a few minutes of finishing her nails and waiting for them to dry, she heard her door open, and as she looked up, she saw her mom peeking her head in.
"Sweetie, I have a Stiles here for you." She spoke softly, still thinking that Lexi was going through something similar to Lydia.

Lexi furrowed her brows in confusion at why Stiles would be in her house, and how he even got off school to see her. Why was he visiting?
"Okay.." Lexi spoke, still confused at why he was here visiting. That, and she was still in her little pyjamas.

When she saw her mom open the door wider, allowing Stiles to come into view, she sat up - "I'll leave you two to it." Her mom told them, before leaving them alone.

For a few seconds, Stiles didn't know what to do, and he stood frozen in his place by the door - he wasn't expecting to see Lexi with no makeup on, and looking just as gorgeous as she looked with it on. It made him love her more than he already did.
"Hi." Stiles finally spoke, waving slightly at Lexi, who was still sat on her bed with her best and shorts on, being a lot more revealing than what she would typically wear at school.

"Hey." Lexi replied, smiling up at Stiles, "You're in my room." She told him, still not understanding why he was here.
Don't get her wrong, she was glad that he had visited, as she had been bored all day, but he must want something to have to visit and put up with her mom.

Stiles shook his head to bring himself out of his thoughts about how beautiful Lexi looked, and he finally remembered why he came here. "Hi." He said, before cringing, remembering that he had already said that.
Lexi simply smiled at him, giving Stiles more confidence to talk to her, "I came to see how you were doing." He told her.

Lexi's smile simply widened at his question, as not a lot of people would have skipped school to see how she was doing. Being popular didn't mean anything - if you didn't have friends that care, then it's useless.
"Really?" She asked, not believing his words. When he nodded at her, "I'm doing great, actually. More than I can say about Lydia." She eventually answered.

"What's wrong with Lydia?" Stiles asked, still unmoving from his place at the door, somewhat afraid to move further into her room, having never been in it before.
It seemed strange, as she had been in his, but it was completely different.

Lexi simply smirked and leaned over to grab something from her bedside table, while Stiles tried to look the other way, "Our doctor gave us these." She answered, pulling her medication into view and handing them towards the boy.

Stiles finally sat down besides her when he took the pills out of her hand, and looked down at them with a look, "Damn." He muttered, wondering if she had been taking them, but it was clear that she hadn't been, or she would be slurring and acting as if she was drunk.
"I take it you haven't taken any?" He then asked, handing them back to her.

Lexi scoffed, "No way." She answered, placing them back down on her table. "They're trying to tell me I'm crazy and that I'm imagining things."

"And are you?" Stiles asked, remembering the whole reason on coming here, was to find out what Lexi and Lydia saw the night before, since Jackson wasn't saying anything.

"No." Lexi answered immediately, knowing damn well that she wasn't making things up. She knows what she saw, and nothing could change that, not even some stupid pills.

"What did you see?" Stiles then asked.

Lexi looked up at him with a look, noticing that he was asking a lot of questions, "They say it was a mountain lion." She told him, not wanting him to think she was completely nuts for what she saw.

"But what do you think?" He asked, knowing that she didn't think that - he had been watching the girl in front of him for years, and he was proud to say that he could read her like a book.

"I think that I'm not crazy." Lexi told him, before looking him in the eyes in all seriousness, "Do you think I'm crazy?" She asked him, wanting to know the truth.
She wouldn't blame him if he did - she had, after all, been told by her doctor that she had been seeing things; to her, that screamed crazy.

"No." Stiles instantly disagreed, shaking his head frantically. The last thing he thought she was, was crazy. "I think they're trying to hide what you actually saw." He told her.

"I don't know what I saw." She admitted, the two of them now extremely close to each other, she looked at his face and admired how cute he looked, but knew that it wasn't the reason he came here, "Lydia was taking selfies at the time, I was passed out.. I don't know what Jackson was doing."

Stiles seemed to have something click inside of his head at her words, "Lydia has photos?" He asked.

Lexi didn't seem to understand his point, and she nodded at his question, "Lydia has photos of everything. The girl can't seem to take her eyes off of her phone." She answered.
When Stiles simply gave the girl a look, Lexi couldn't hold back her gasp, "Oh my god! Stiles you genius!" She shouted, grabbing his face to kiss his forehead, before rushing off.
She didn't notice the frozen boy on her bed, when she turned around at the door, "Come on!" She encouraged, before rushing back to Lydia's room, not realising what she had just done..

"Lydia?" Lexi asked softly, poking her head through Lydia's door, with a soft smile on her face.
When she did so, Lydia was already awake, admiring her nails as she relaxed on her bed, not having a care in the world. "I got Stiles with me, can we come in?" She asked.

"What the hell is a Stiles?" Lydia asked, clearly still doped it from her medication.

Lexi turned to Stiles with an apologetic look, "Sorry about her." She whispered to him, as he shrugged, indicating that he didn't mind - knowing that she was on those pills.
Lexi grabbed Stiles' arm and pulled him along with her towards Lydia's bed, and sat him down besides her, "We need to talk to you about last night." She told her.

"A mountain lion." She muttered, not thinking about what Lexi had asked her.

"What?" Stiles asked her.

"I saw a mountain lion." She repeated - exactly what the doctors had been telling her and her twin.
Lydia then smiled and sat up, "Hey." She slurred, pointing at Stiles, "You're the one that Lexi never shuts up about."

Levi's eyes widened, "Lydia!" She complained, trying to place her hand over Lydia's mouth to shut her up, only, Lydia fought back, and the two ended up squirming around.

"It's true." Lydia giggled, "The only reason she tagged along with me and Jackson last night was to pick up War Stars so she could watch it and not look stupid in front of you." She informed Stiles, acting like word vomit.

"She's lying." Lexi informed Stiles, giving him a tight smile, before turning around and giving Lydia a warning look, indicating that she should shut up. "Where's your phone?" She asked, making sure to keep hold of Lydia so she could pinch her if she said anything else.

Stiles, on the other hand, smiled widely at the information that Lexi wanted to watch Star Wars so she could become more informed about it. Never in a million years did he think that the Lexi Martin would be doing these things for him, and trying not to look stupid in front of him. It had always been him doing that for her - he felt like he was in some kind of dream world.
The second Lexi reached over and grabbed her twins phone, the two of them looked at the video on the phone, eyes widening in surprise.

Lexi was right. It wasn't a mountain lion.
