( 𝟎𝟒𝟏 ) admitting his fears

STILES WAS MISSING by the time the lights were turned back on, and Lexi had never felt a panic like it before - the second she heard Noah yelling for his son, and Scott's face when he realised that his best friend was missing, Lexi knew that it had something to do with Gerard, and the minute she made the connections, her stomach dropped, and all she could think about, and pray for, was that Stiles was okay, and he wasn't hurt. The fact that Jackson had stopped breathing on the field, had barely registered in her mind, even when her sister pushed her face into her chest and cried her heart out, because the boy she loved could be dead, too, and the fear of that was so prominent, that she couldn't feel anything else but the fear plaguing her mind. Her blood ran cold, her heart dropped into her stomach, and she felt a bile rise up in her throat, feeling the need to empty her stomach, as if she didn't, she would feel even more sick than she did before. She had grown up with Jackson, he was never horrible to her, they had even been the best of friends at one point, and now.. Now he was dead.
Trying to drag Lydia away from the school, away from where the love of her life had died, was hard; not only did Lexi have Stiles going missing on her mind, being told by Noah that he was going to do everything in his power to get him back, but she had her old friend dead, after everything Matt had put him through, and what Gerard had made him do, by what Scott described, it couldn't have been easy for him, and it broke her heart, because although Jackson could be a dick at times, and a completely horrible person, he didn't deserve to die, and definitely not like that. Noah had absolutely no idea about anything that was going on with the supernatural, and no idea on what was happening with Jackson, so he didn't know where to even start with looking for his son, but neither did Lexi - she knew that he wouldn't have just walked out of the school willingly, it had something to do with Gerard, she knew it. Lexi liked to believe that she knew Stiles, she knew what he would, and would not do, and she knew that he wouldn't put his father through this unless someone had made him.
Lydia was growing annoyed at how much Lexi seemed to be tapping her foot against the floor, and the fact that the girl kept pacing back and fourth in their kitchen, her phone clutched in her hand as every minute she would try Stiles' cell again, as her own cheeks were soaked wet, and her own eyes puffy from crying, Lexi's were, too, but because of a different boy, the boy she loved. "They're going to find him, Lex." Lydia told her sister, her face moving left and right again as she followed Lexi's movements, the girl unable to stop pacing, as if she sat down, she wouldn't be able to breathe. "He's gonna be okay," She added, when Lexi didn't answer her, instead, dialling Stiles' number again and listening as it went straight to his goofy voicemail, the sound making even more tears to fall out of her eyes and onto the hoodie of his that she was still wearing, unable to take it off.
Lexi found it hard to believe her words, she just couldn't believe that he would be completely fine after disappearing from his lacrosse match, the first match he had ever played in, he just wouldn't have done it, and she knew that he had been taken, the feeling in her gut telling her that he wasn't safe, and he needed to come home to them. "What if he isn't, Lyds? He wouldn't just walk off like people are saying, something's happened to him, I can feel it." Lexi eventually told her, shaking her head as she used the sleeve of her hoodie to wipe the tears falling down her cheeks, still, her eyes feeling sore from the amount of tears they had produced within the past few hours. She hadn't thought much about how Lydia may be feeling, since she loved Jackson, but the girl felt awful that she was partly glad he was now gone, as now, he wouldn't be able to take any more lives.
Lydia had been sensing the lies and distrust coming from Lexi since the dance, and the fact that something had happened, and kept happening, was prominent in her mind, and she wanted to know what the hell her sister was keeping from her. She knew it was the wrong time, since Stiles was missing, but she had lost someone too, and she was done sitting back and watching from the side lines as everyone carried on lying to her and keeping her out of the bubble. After the incident with Peter Hale, Lydia knew that something big was happening, to her and Lexi, and it was about time that she had someone explain it all to her so she could understand what was happening to her brain, to her body. "Are you finally going to explain what you've been keeping from me since the dance? Since the incident?" She finally spoke up, a silence drifting in the air as she thought about whether or not to tell her sister that she knew parts of what was happening in this town, to her friends, and Allison.
Lexi knew that this couldn't be worst timing, she wanted to focus on Stiles, on finding him and making sure that he was okay - she didn't need Lydia questioning her on what was going on with everything. She sighed, shaking her head, "Lydia, now isn't the time.." She said, knowing that after they got Stiles back, she would tell her sister everything; she just wanted to find him first.
"It's never the right time, though, is it?" Lydia retorted, standing up from her seat as Lexi turned around and gave her sister a guilty look, unsure of what to say of her. "You've been lying to me this whole time, and I want to know everything, I deserve to know, Lexi." She said, the two of them using each other's full names.
Lexi sighed again, knowing that Lydia did deserve to know everything that had been doing on, and the fact that she had been keeping it from her was wrong - she felt awful, she shouldn't have listened to Scott, and she should have told her sister everything the moment she found out about it all. She made a big mistake, and she knew that. "It's not that simple, Lyds. I can't tell you all tonight, there isn't enough time.." She said, as she dialled Stiles' number again, groaning in annoyance when it went to answer phone again, "I want to tell you everything, I do, but finding Stiles is what matters right now. He could be in serious danger, he could be seriously hurt, and I don't know what to do, Scott won't answer, neither will Allison, and I just.. I don't know what I should do." She rushed out, sobbing the last word as her throat tightened, watching as Lydia rushed up to her, pulling the girl in for a hug and brushing a hand down her hair, knowing that whatever was happening with Stiles, was to do with what she suspected, and she wanted to help.
"Stiles is smart, there's no way he's going to get seriously hurt, he'll get out of whatever situation he's in, I know it." Lydia told Lexi, as Lexi pulled back from the hug and looked at her sister in the eyes, knowing that she knew what was happening right now.
"I think you know a lot about what's going on, Lyds." Lexi spoke up quietly, watching as Lydia nodded slightly.
"What happened on our birthday.. That's when I finally realised what may be going on." Lydia said, having had her suspicions for a while, but when she had done what she did the other week.. That's when she finally realised that a lot more was going on than she once thought, and herself and Lexi were a lot more involved that she had thought before.. The bite from Peter Hale had a lot to do with that, and in some way, they were both connected with everything that was going on, and they may even have a part to play, too.
"I'm sorry." Lexi sobbed, never having felt so guilty about something before - she should've told Lydia ages ago, they wouldn't have gone through so much trouble and danger if she had. She had made the biggest regret in her whole life.
"It's okay." Lydia whispered, knowing that in reality, she could never be mad at her sister, no matter what she did; she could kill someone, and she wouldn't blink an eye, because that's what they did, they were sisters, and nothing could ever break that..
——
When Noah had called Lexi with the words she had been wanting to hear all night, she cried of relief, and Lydia immediately drove her over to the Stilinski household in a record breaking time, driving way over the limit - even with Lydia claiming she was going as fast as he could, Lexi still wanted her to drive faster. Once the two girls had made it to Stiles' house, Lexi didn't waste any time in jumping out of the car and heading straight for the front door, knocking as fast as she could before Noah answered it, a sad smile on his face when he did so due to the state that his son was in, "He's in his room." Noah told the girl softly, seeing the way her eyes were puffy, and cheeks wet from crying. A lot had happened during the lacrosse game, with Jackson passing away on the court, he couldn't imagine what this girl was going through because of all of that going on at once.
"Thankyou so much." Lexi told the man, giving him a tight smile before walking into the house, sighing as she began to climb the familiar stairs to the familiar room of Stiles. She didn't know why he didn't call her, and why Noah had been the one to do so, but she knew that he must be in shock with what could've happened - Noah didn't look very happy when answering the door to her, he looked almost traumatised with what had been going on. Lexi felt her heart rate speed up the closer she got to Stiles' bedroom, her hand shaking as she brought it up and lightly knocked on the door.
"Dad, I said I'm fine. Leave me alone." Stiles mumbled from the other side, the boy sounding like his face was pushed into his pillow. Lexi sighed, knocking again as she didn't want to barge into him in a time where he was stressed out of his mind. She could hear him huff in annoyance on the other side, before the bed shifted, and she heard his footsteps approaching the door, the boy swinging it open without concentrating on who was on the other side, "Dad, leave me alone!" Stiles repeated, until he focused on the girl standing on the other side, mascara running down her cheeks from where she had been crying, the wetness still there and shining.
Lexi tried to give him a smile, but it failed miserably, the girl looking like she was cringing in pain, "Your dad let me in." She said, her voice hoarse from the amount she had been crying, and when she saw his face, she felt even more tears stream down her face, the sight making her sick to her stomach. "Your face." She mumbled, reaching her hand up and gently cupping his face, getting a look at the bruises on his eye and the cut on his lip. "Did Gerard do this?" Lexi asked, watching as Stiles flinched at the name.
Stiles raised his own hand up, wiping away a tear that had begun to drop down her face, "Why're you crying?" He asked, unsure as to why she was upset, as she couldn't be upset over him? That didn't make any sense to him. Lexi didn't like him, why would she? He couldn't even keep her protected against Matt, who would want to be with someone like that? He knew he wouldn't.
"Because you're hurt." Lexi told him, shaking her head in confusion, not knowing why he was acting this way towards her, "Why have you been ignoring me? What's happened?" She couldn't help but ask, wanting things to go back to how they used to be, instead of ignoring her in the hallways, and ignoring her calls and texts all week. It hurt her, that Stiles was so distant with her, when they had been so close throughout the last year - she wished that it was something they could fix.
"Why are you with me?" Stiles asked, backing away from the girl as she let her hand drop, her face dripping at the motion. When she shook her head to indicate that she didn't know what he was talking about, he continued, "I'm not Scott.. I'm not Jackson, I can't protect you the way they can, I couldn't protect you at the police station.. Why do you care about me?" He continued, Lexi's heart breaking at how much he was putting himself down.
"I don't want Scott, or Jackson. I want you, Stiles." Lexi said, inching towards slightly, "Is that what this has been about? Derek couldn't even move after Jackson slit the back of his neck, and he's a werewolf, Stiles! You've protected me against the worst, you've kept me sane through this whole thing! I love you, Stiles!" She ended up shouting, shocking Stiles as he finally heard the words come from her mouth, the words that he had been wanting to hear throughout his whole lifetime. He hadn't said it to her directly, yet, so technically, she was the first to say the words, but he had definitely loved her for a lot longer than she loved him.
"You do?" Stiles asked, having thought that this whole time, he was trying to make something that just wouldn't happen, and that he was completely wasting his time with feelings only he felt and not the other way around. But when he asked her this, the girl gave him a look of disbelief, not knowing how he hadn't guessed her feelings for him at this point in time, when she had shown nothing but her love for the boy, even if she had been partly afraid to admit it until this point.
Lexi scoffed, throwing her hands up in the air in frustration, "How have you not realised this yet? I fell in love with you the second you introduced yourself to me, I just didn't know it yet." She admitted, having not thought about it much until now - she loved Stiles, she loved everything about him, his looks, the cute buzz cut hair he had, the way he behaved, how he spoke, how he acted with her, everything about him made the girl fall harder each day, and she couldn't believe that he didn't know this..
Stiles' eyes teared up, having not known this about her, but the fact that she had just admitted her feelings, made him regret what he had done all week because of his stupid feelings about not being able to protect her. "I.. I've loved you since I first ever laid eyes on you, Lexi. You've always been my dream girl, and when you first spoke to me, I couldn't believe it.. You're the love of my life, I was just too afraid to admit it since you wouldn't feel the same way, I was sure you didn't feel the same way." He said, having believed his thoughts about the girl for so long. Now he was saying it out loud, he felt stupid, with the way that Lexi was looking at him, but he still couldn't believe that the girl loved you.
Lexi didn't know this, either; the girls eyes widening at his confession, she knew that he may have had a crush on her, but the fact that it had been since he first layer eyes on her, was crazy to her, since she didn't think she was that great at all. She never saw what Stiles saw in her, and she still didn't, even till this day, "Really?" She asked, making it Stiles' turn to give her a look of disbelief.
"Look at you." Stiles said, motioning his hands at her, up and down, as Lexi sniffled, wiping the tears away with her sleeve again, "You're the most beautiful girl I've ever seen." He continued, moving forwards and getting rid of the space between the two of them. "I'm sorry for this week, the truth is, I was scared.. Scared that you wouldn't feel the same way, and I avoided you, after what happened in the police station, I didn't think you'd want anything to do with me when I couldn't protect you the way Scott does Allison." He finally admitted, as Lexi couldn't believe his words.
Lexi shook her head, cupping his face in her hands as she tried to avoid the damage on him, the damage that she had no doubt, Gerard did to him tonight. "None of that matters to me, Stiles. I love you no matter what happens. You don't need to have werewolf strength for me to be interested in you, okay? Your my abdominal snowman." She said, smiling as she remembered what he had told Matt what he was.. Stiles seemed to find the humour it in, too, since a smile reached his face at her words. The girl was about to say something else, when Stiles grabbed her waist, a quiet squeal escaping her lips when she was pulled into him, the boys lips crashing against hers as her hands immediately clutched the sides of his face again, pulling him into her as the kiss deepened even further.
This kiss felt more desperate than the others, the feeling like the two were finally coming to terms with their feelings, that Lexi had finally realised her love for the Stilinski boy, and Stiles had finally realised that he didn't need to be a werewolf of a Kanima to protect the girl he loved. It felt like a new page was turning in their lives, and they both couldn't be more thrilled - they had forgotten all about the problems as they kissed, the fact that Jackson wasn't dead, hadn't been proposed to them, yet, and they had no idea about the problems that were about to occur one last time..
