STRANGE, THAT WAS the only way to describe how Lexi felt at the moment; she had only had one glass of punch, yet she felt like she had drank more than ten glasses of the stuff, the girl had no idea what Lydia had put in the drink, but whatever it was, it was something that was effecting Lexi in the strangest way possible. After Lexi had admitted to Stiles that she was falling in love with him, she drifted away back into the house without any other words spoken aloud — Lexi felt her head pound, her break feeling like it was on the verge of exploding, feeling multiple emotions hit her all at once, the girl feeling immensely overwhelmed to the point where she needed to find some place quiet, where she could relax her brain.. The Martin girl headed up to her bedroom, shutting the door after her and letting out a sigh of relief when the music quietened down from downstairs, her headache already beginning to die down due to it, the girl already feeling much better because of it. Lexi closed her eyes as she pressed her back against her bedroom door, leaning her head back against it as she realised that something must be in that punch, she didn't want the boy she loved to witness her throw up, and that's exactly why she ran off.
It wasn't until a minute later, did Lexi open her eyes, seeing her mother and father standing across the room, not yet noticing that their daughter was even in the room, talking amongst themselves, mumbling so no one could hear them both. Lexi couldn't understand why they were even in her room, since her father was in a completely different state, and her mother was on a short business trip for work until the weekend was over, there was no way they could possibly be here. Not only was the situation at hand confusing her, but she also couldn't shake the feeling of fear, of sadness from seeing her mother and father together in the same room, knowing that they disliked each other so much, to the point where her father had moved states away from them all. Lexi had always hidden how she felt about her parents, always hiding how hurt she was by what happened, but what her father did, no one ever believed that she was ever bothered by what happened, but she was hurt, and she was upset.
Lexi stood up straighter at the sight of them, wondering why she could see them, and what was even happening, "Mom, Dad?" The girl spoke up quietly, afraid to even move closer to the people who weren't her parents, because there was no chance they were actually here, it was impossible. The two adults were still talking amongst each other, ignoring their daughter calling out to them, Lexi swearing that she could see them both roll their eyes at her voice, making the girl pause in her footsteps from beginning to walk over to them; she had begun to walk towards her parents, only to pause and back up again upon seeing their eyes roll at her voice, "Guys?" She repeated, unsure of what to do, now, or what to even say to them both.
"Is she talking again?" Her mother asked, exasperated and annoyed that Lexi even had the audacity to speak up, annoyed that she felt important enough to make a sound, "Why are you talking to us?" The woman asked, as she and Lexi's father turned around and gave her a completely disgusted look that made the girls stomach drop completely.
Lexi shook her head furiously, not understanding anything at all about the situation, "Mom, I don't understand, what's going on? What's happening?" She asked, feeling a tear slide down her face already, unable to hold them back due to the look on her mothers face. Seeing her father looking at her like that, however, didn't bother her as much, since she wasn't much of a fan of the man, anyway, due to how he left and the fact that he didn't even talk to his two kids anymore.
Her mother snarled, "You think you matter to us? You're nothing compared to your sister, nothing!" She began to claim, beginning to walk towards Lexi, only for the girl to slowly walk away from her, afraid of what was going to happen. "Lydia's always been the child we wanted, you're a shame to this family, we don't love you!" She yelled, her father laughing from behind the woman as he watched his ex-wife shout at their daughter, berating her.
Lexi shook her head, multiple tears ears now running down her face at what was happening, until she fell backwards onto her back, grunting as she hit the ground and looking up to see what had tripped her up; it was Stiles. "You think I actually like you? That's pathetic. You're nothing to me, Lydia's the one I really want." Stiles spoke up, snarling as he scowled down at her on the ground, the girl already having tears streaming down her face at the sight and the sound of the boy she had fallen in love with. It broke her heart to hear the words that had always haunted her in the back of her mind, her chest feeling like it was ripping open and he was stepping on it, crushing it underneath his foot.
Her family and Stiles carried on shouting at her, yelling horrible words that she merely didn't want to hear, words that cracked her heart more and more each time; Lexi covered her ears with her palms, pressing them against them harshly to try and block out the words she was hearing, she didn't want to hear them. Crying, Lexi shook her head over and over again, "Please, no. Please, please, please." She whimpered, screwing her eyes shut as she tried to block them out, hating how it all made her feel, how it made her think about herself. The girl began to rock back and forth at the sounds of her mother, father and Stiles yelling at her, shouting insults at her and telling her that her sister was better, when she felt a small and gentle tap on her shoulder, someone trying to bring her out of her state and help her come back to real life. Lexi could hear soft words being spoken to her, but she just couldn't open her eyes, she didn't want to, no matter how much the person besides her told her that she could, that she should.
"Lex, come on, it's not real." Stiles spoke up, trying to get the girls attention, as she had her eyes screwed shut and her hands pressed up against her ears, blocking out some noise that wasn't even there; it was very quiet upstairs, and he couldn't understand what she could possibly be panicking about. Seeing her like this scared him, and he had no clue whatsoever on how to help her — if it was the same thing that happened to him outside, then there must be something in the punch to make them hallucinate about their worst fear imaginable.
Lexi could feel Stiles trying to wake her up, trying to bring her hands away from her face, but she didn't want to, afraid that her parents and Stiles would still be screaming horrible words at her. "Are they still here?" She asked, her voice shaking in fear at what had just happened. Even with Stiles practically hugging the girl towards his own body, hugging her tight and trying to bring her comfort, she was terrified.
Stiles looked up at the girls room and saw no one there, and not even any indication that anyone had even been up here all night, "There's no one here but me and you, Lex." He said, knowing that he was pretty shaken up after what he saw in the garden, he didn't blame Lexi one bit for the way she was acting.
Eventually, Lexi slowly pulled her hands away from her eyes, looking around the room to see that it was in fact, just herself and Stiles, on the floor by her door. She was still shaking like a leaf, unsure of what to think about what had just happened, but when she looked up at Stiles, she knew that he wasn't the one that was just shouting insults at her, he was the one that cared for her, the one that she loved. "I saw.. I don't know what just happened." The girl stated, never having been through something like this before tonight. Lexi thought that when she looked up at Stiles, she would see him looking down at her like she was crazy, like she had drank way too much alcohol, but when she finally looked up at his face, he was looking at her with nothing but sympathy about what she had just seen. "I didn't have that much to drink, I swear." The girl told him, shaking her head in confusion, cheeks wet from crying. However, once she saw water dripping from the boys hair, she tilted her head, "Why are you wet?" She asked, reaching up to stroke his head, wondering if he had gone for a swim or something.
Stiles couldn't help but smile at the feel of her touch on his hair, seeing the look in her eyes as she also looked up at him through her teary eyes; her words to him from earlier replayed in his mind, the words 'falling in love' replaying over and over again, unable to believe that she had really said that to him. "Let's just say I had a similar thing happen to me." He eventually told the girl, unable to hold back the smile yet again, when she leaned into his hold. They had both been through enough trauma tonight to last them their whole lives, but they both knew that they still had each other, and they always would. What Stiles said next, however, Lexi didn't expect, but she instantly stood up with the boys help, rushing downstairs to talk to Scott about what was in the punch, and why Lydia would drug everyone.
When the girl took a good look at what was going on around them, she couldn't be more confused at everyone's behaviour, having never seen everyone so drunk before, it was strange.. Laughing and pointing, everyone was stumbling around, talking to themselves and being flat out weird, until Lexi spotted someone by the pool yelling that they couldn't swim, that person being Matt, scared out of his mind about what was happening. Two boys threw him into the pool despite his shouts and yells that he couldn't swim, the boy falling into the water and thrusting to the top to get some air, shouting even more about how he couldn't swim until Jackson, of all people, lifted him out of the pool and standing besides him like a bodyguard would. "What are you looking at?" Matt snapped at everyone around them, noticing how everyone was staring at him from falling into the pool, Lexi, Stiles and Scott included. The boy started to walk away, stopping in front of the trio with a look that could kill, Stiles edging in front of Lexi sight it to shield her from Matt's glare, the boy not caring as he rushed past them once again.
"Cops are here!" Someone yelled, when they heard sirens approaching, causing Lexi to sigh in annoyance, not wanting to get told off by the cops about having a party with alcohol since they were all underaged; the girl was frantically looking around for her twin sister, but she couldn't find her anywhere, so she knew what she ultimately had to do, and that was to get out of dodge to avoid getting in trouble. With the trio's suspicion on Matt and Jackson, Lexi grabbed Stiles' hand and let him drag her through the crowd and back out the front door behind Scott, reaching the street where multiple cop cars were pulled up, already checking on people to make sure they weren't drunk; Lexi had to worry about it later, since there were much more important things going on right now..
And that was that Matt was controlling the Kanima.
——
Lexi was dragged to Stiles's house with Stiles and Scott to talk to Noah about what the hell was going on, and to try and convince him that Matt was the one behind all of the murders, without telling him about the supernatural around them all; Lexi had felt strange since she had left her house swarmed with cops, her wrist stinging and chest beating so fast that she felt like she could faint. But through all of that, she pushed through, knowing that they needed to sort out this business with Matt, and stop the murders from happening, hopefully with Noah's help, too. The three of them knew that they couldn't exactly take no for an answer, because if they couldn't stop Matt, then even more people will die, and they may reach a point where it might be too late to help Jackson and stop Matt, and they couldn't let that happen.
Lexi sat on the edge of Stiles' bed and tried to ignore the pounding in her chest and the sting on her wrist, trying to ignore the feeling that something bad was happening right now, and not just Matt controlling Jackson.. She felt it in her gut that something had just happened, something that was going to change everything, and for some reason, she felt like her sister was involved.
"So, all you have to do is, like, look through their transcripts and figure out which class they all had in common." Stiles tried to convince his dad, after dragging him in here to talk to him about Matt and the murders that were going on. The three of them believed that maybe the people that had died had been related to Matt in some way, that he was getting revenge, and the only thing they could think of, was going to school together, and being on the same track or something to that extent.
"Yeah, except for the fact that the rave promoter, Kara, wasn't in Harris's class." Noah spoke up, not seeing the connection between all of these victims like Stiles is trying to make out, and not wanting to annoy his colleagues even more than he had, since he had been fired.
"All right, you're right, sorry. Then I guess they dropped the charges against him?" Stiles asked, as Lexi and Scott stood quietly behind him.
"No, you know what? They're not dropping the charges." Noah stated, shaking his head, "But that doesn't prove anything.. Scott, Lexi, do you believe this?" He asked the two teens standing behind Stiles, having been silent throughout the whole time in which they had gathered in Stiles' room. Noah respected Lexi, he believed her to be a bright young girl, so anything she said, he slightly agreed with more than his sons.
Lexi nodded slowly whilst Scott started to explain, "It's really hard to explain how we know this, but you just gotta trust us, we know it's Matt." Scott explained to Noah, as the man looked at the three teenagers like they were all escapees from a mental hospital.
"Yeah, he took Harris's car, okay?" Stiles told him, trying to push this situation on his dad in hopes that they could stop Matt with the help from the police, and not just them, who clearly had no idea what they were doing. "Look, he knew that if a cop found tire tracks at one of the murders, and that if enough of the victims were in Harris's class, that they'd arrest him!" He carried on explaining, Noah closing his eyes in frustration before stopping him.
"All right, fine. I'll allow the remote possibility, but give me a motive. I mean, why would this kid want most of the 2006 swim team and it's coach dead?" Noah asked, still not seeing the connections that Stiles was trying to paint a picture of.
"Isn't it obvious?" Stiles asked, as everyone looked towards him with a confused look, not knowing what was obvious at all, "Our swim team sucks!" He eventually said, causing Lexi to snort at his words, knowing that she shouldn't be laughing in a situation like this, but he wasn't wrong, the swim team did suck. "Okay, we don't have a motive, yet. I mean, come on, does Harris?" He asked, knowing that none of this truly made sense, they just had to get to the police station to access their computers and data.
"What do you want me to do?" Noah asked, knowing that his son did have a point, as much as he didn't want to admit it. The three teenagers couldn't believe his words, having not thought that he would agree with them, having thought that this would be a long shot, but Lexi thought that they were heading in the right direction, if he believed their words.
"We need to look at the evidence." Scott said.
And just like that, they headed to the station, knowing that Noah was fired, but also knowing that they would let him in, and they would let him use their supplies because of his reputation. Even with it being two in the morning, Noah knew that he couldn't shake the teens off of his trail, and partly, he had a feeling that they were right, as much as he hated to admit it.. Once they reached his office and once they had looked at the hospital surveillance footage, they knew they had their guy, and they couldn't be more happy about it, that finally, Matt would be caught, and he couldn't kill anyone else; Scott called his mom to find out if she had seen Matt come into the hospital, and once she said she had, she was told to meet them at the station, so they could finally ID Matt and get him in jail for the crimes he had committed. "Scott, call your mom back, see how quick she can get here. If I can get an official ID, I can get a search warrant. Lexi, you could go to the front desk, tell them that Scott's mom is coming." He ordered everyone, sending Lexi to the front desk as he knew that Stiles could be annoying towards his colleagues.
Lexi instantly nodded and headed out of the room, walking to the front desk to talk to the lady about Melissa coming down; she didn't look all that happy when they first arrived, so she was going to try her hardest to be kind and thoughtful that she was having to work at 2AM. However, once she reached the front desk, there wasn't anyone there, and Lexi couldn't understand where the woman had gone, "Hello?" She called out, glancing around the room in confusion as it looked like no one had been here at all — walking towards the front desk, the woman that she saw from earlier, was lying on the ground, lifeless eyes staring up at the ceiling with blood covered all over her chest, dead from injuries. Lexi gasped, instantly backing away, until she felt something press against the back of her head, the girl stopping in her steps as she felt her heart stop then and there.
Turning around, she saw Matt holding up the gun to her head, tears instantly falling down the girls face as she realised that this boy could shoot her and kill her whenever he pleased, nothing was stopping him. And when he smiled at her, she knew for a fact that she was screwed.
