Featuring Cench only

Note: inspired by Creed

Oakley entered the studio expecting to see his sound mixer and producer, his face scrunched up at the sight of her, "Yo."

Y/N scribbled on her notebook letting her thoughts run. She hummed slightly getting her voice ready. She hadn't noticed anybody entering the room.

Oakley waved his hand confused as to where her attention was. Walid gripped his shoulder, "Shit, they forgot to tell you."

"Tell me what?" His voice drew deeper feeling the anger rise in his chest. Who was the girl and why was she in his booked studio?

"Y/N will be your producer today."

Oakley shook his head, "No."

Walid continued forward tapping the table. Y/N lifted her head smiling, "Hi, Walid! Sorry about that I had my implants turned down."

"What?" Oakley whispered to himself watching their interaction.

Y/N hugged her long-term friend and reached behind her braids turning on her cochlear implants.

"I'm super excited to get started. I've already been sent over the lyrics to the song. You just need a beat." Y/N began her spiel getting into a creative rhythm.

"How is she gonna make music if she's deaf?" Oakley whispered to Walid as he watched her set up the mixing board.

"I'm hard of hearing, not deaf. There's a difference." Y/N rolled her eyes feeling disrespected.

"So my statement still stands."

"I can show you better than I can tell you."

Y/N started messing around with the mix board creating a light tune. From there she added notes from a sampled song, "The song is called Wishing on a Star so I figured why not sample Rose Royce."

Oakley wanted to crack a smile, "Yeah."

Y/N kept the beat playing and stood up. Oakley raised an eyebrow when he noticed her hand lingering on the speakers, "What are you doing?"

"Shh."

Oakley stepped forward invading her space. He was genuinely curious about her creative process. How she moved swiftly around the room, humming his lyrics having them already memorized. She ignored his spiced cologne and cleared her throat.

"I can feel the beat. It helps me hear it better."

Y/N could feel his gaze on her. She tenderly reached for his hand and placed it over hers, "You feel it?"

Oakley smiled for the first time, "Yeah. I do."

"Cool. I just need to add the instruments but you can step into the booth." Y/N patted his tattooed arm sending goosebumps on his skin.

Oakley followed her instructions. The booth was dark and dimly lit, "Can you hear me?"

Y/N hit some buttons on the board before responding, "Loud and clear. Just go with the flow."

Y/N played the beat watching him intensely. He got loose quickly reciting his lyrics with ease.  The song enamored her. She got up from her seat swaying her hips to the beat enjoying him like he was performing.

"What are you doing?" He asked stopping mid-lyric.

Y/N sucked her teeth, "Just vibe, Cench! This time add more energy."

A few hours later, Y/N rested her feet on Oakley's lap feeling comfortable as they ate dinner. Chinese food, on him. Y/N crunched on her egg roll, "See that wasn't so bad for a deaf girl."

He chuckled wiping his mouth, "I was a bit disrespectful. I'm sorry."

She shrugged her shoulders, "It's okay. I proved you wrong."

"How'd you lose your hearing?" Oakley moved a braid from her ear revealing her implants.

Y/N swallowed her fried rice and licked her lips, "It's genetic."

"Eventually..."

Y/N finished his sentence, "It'll be gone."

Oakley smiled reassuringly, "You still won't lose that musical spark."

She blushed making eye contact with him, staring into his soul, "Just don't leave me behind when I go completely deaf."

"I won't."
