𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗿𝘁𝐲-𝐨𝐧𝐞; cassie's demise
"status asthmaticus"
CASSIE FELT LIKE SHE WAS in a movie as the girl had an inner monologue in her mind about how she thought she was going to die — before finding out that the supernatural exist, the girl thought that she would grow old with her husband in a cute house on the edge of town, but as she sat in the back of Theo's truck, her whole body leaning on Liam's as she didn't have any energy to keep it upright. With her eyes constantly rolling into the back of her head after attempting to open them, she knew that she was dying; she felt her organs shutting down inside of her, the girl finding it harder and harder to breathe or move any muscle of hers. Throughout her panic about dying, she heard Theo telling Liam to keep her awake, although her eyes wouldn't cooperate with her, "Cassie, keep your eyes open, baby." Liam pleaded with her, lifting up her dead weight body as the girl groaned, unable to form any words, "Please, don't fall asleep. Theo, how do we help her?" He asked Theo with a panicky voice, trying his hardest not trying cry at the sight of Cassie alone.
"I don't know." Theo admitted, driving as fast as he could to the vets, which is where Scott had informed them to go and take Cassie until he could meet them there. It hurt Cassie's heart, when she heard Scott claim that there might not be anything to save her, like he wasn't even trying to. She thought that Scott, of all people, would fight to keep her alive, but his words had pierced through her heart in ways she had never felt before, like her own family had betrayed her, and she was sure that Liam felt the same way, too. "When it's wolfsbane poisoning, you burn it out. But I don't know anything about mercury. Especially a kind that's probably been altered by them." Theo explained, mostly to Liam, as Cassie was so far under that she could barely understand what everyone was saying around her.
Liam had an idea, for Scott to bite Cassie, it was the one thing he could think of that would help the girl he loved; Theo agreed instantly that the idea was good and it could work, the only problem was getting Scott to agree to it. Although he had agreed to never bite the girl, or Stiles, or any of his human friends, this could be a way to save the girl, and he had his fingers crossed that he would agree with their theory. Theo pulled up the car as Scott stood in the car park with a troubled look on his face, looking like something had just happened to him, but none of them questioned it as Liam carried Cassie into the vets, the girl gasping and grunting in pain as he did so, taking her to the corner of the room and sliding down the wall to have Cassie lying on him, the boy wrapping his arms around her for dear life. None of them knew that Stiles had come to help out, that Scott had forgotten to tell the boy that his sister was dying; he was so caught up in confronting the his best friend for lying that telling him about Cassie had completely escaped his mind, and even as he walked in and saw the girl dying in Liam's arms, he still forgot that he should have told Stiles, having so much on his mind at once. It was al overwhelming.
"I think she's dying." Liam cried as he held tightly onto Cassie, looking up at Scott with pleading eyes for him to do something instead of standing around. "Scott, remember what you promised me. Promised her? You said you'd do everything you could to save her." Liam told Scott as the girl groaned out yet again, tears streaming down her face as she died. "She's a real werewolf, you can save her. You gotta give her the bite, Scott, please." He pleaded to his alpha, hoping that scott would save her.
But what came out of Scott's mouth, was something that no one was expecting to hear. "No." He said, barely giving it any thought. Cassie heard parts of their conversation, she heard Liam yelling at Scott to bite her, the boy leaving her to lean on Theo as her eyes stayed shut, everything had practically shut down at this point, sweat dripping down her forehead as she breathed even heavier than before, the only thoughts going through her mind being that she wanted her dad and brother by her side. She was scared, and the only way she would be peaceful with her death, was having them and Liam by her side, but by the looks of things, she didn't think any of that was going to happen. She thought about Ellie and Hayden, about not being able to say goodbye to her friends, and Mason, although being Liam's friend, a big friend of hers, too; all she could think of was having them by her side, anything so the girl wouldn't feel the fear that was piercing through her body. She must have passed out during Liam and Scott's argument, because the next time she woke up, Melissa was standing over her, busying around trying to get things done.
The girl groaned out in pain as the woman inserted the needle into the girls veins in her hands, but the pain stopped when Liam gripped onto Melissa with a force he should not be using with a human. "Liam." Cassie mumbled, taking his attention towards her as Melissa stated he hurt her. "Have you called my dad?" The girl asked Melissa in such a quiet voice, the woman had barely heard it.
Melissa leaned close to Cassie as she slowly nodded her head, "I did, he'll be back at the office in half an hour, so he'll be here in no time, sweetie, okay?" She informed the girl, stroking the hair out of her face which had become soaked with sweat.
Before the girl could say anything else, or ask about Stiles, she groaned out in pain again, turning her head to the side as she tried to hide her pained face from Liam and Melissa, but what they saw worried them even more, patches of mercury around her body, going up her neck. "It's getting worse, isn't it? She's not getting better?" Liam asked Melissa, keeping his hand wrapped around hers the whole time, not letting go no matter what. He wasn't going to leave her side.
"Yeah, she's not. Which is why we're taking her to the hospital." Melissa told Liam, knowing that Cassie was in no state of mind to object. When Liam asked how that was going to help the girl, Melissa sighed, "We're in an animal clinic and I need equipment designed for humans. I said that were going to take her to the hospital, I didn't say we're going through the front doors." She told the boy, her stress levels rising as she couldn't bare to loose this girl, the girl she considered her own daughter. She was going to do whatever it took to save Cassie..
It seemed that moving around caused Cassie to be in even more pain, as the girl hugged her stomach, hissing as she felt like she was being stabbed over and over again all over her stomach. She reached up with the little energy she had, taking ahold of Liam's hand as she looked up at him, "Ellie, Hayden and Mason?" She asked weakly, knowing that she had already asked about her dad and Stiles, and they weren't here, so asking again would be pointless.
Melissa bent down to look at the girl again, "Scott's out looking for everyone right now, baby." She cooed, "He's gonna bring your dad, Stiles and your friends here as soon as he can, all right?" She assured Cassie, hating that she didn't have many news on the girls family's whereabouts. She had rang the police station again since Noah's phone was off, and it went straight to voice mail, something clearly having happened over there, so she couldn't get in contact with the girls dad, as for Stiles, she had no idea where that boy was.
The girl passed out again, her eyes rolling into the back of her head as her grip on Liam's hand loosened completely, her head rolling back as she lost consciousness yet again. "I have to go and find Scott." Liam stated, as Melissa rolled the girl into one of the back rooms and attaching her to the wires and beginning to search around for anything that could help Cassie.
"You told her you wouldn't leave her side." Melissa stated, as she inserted another needle into the girls arm, Cassie barely flinching at this point in time. It was a bad sign, and Melissa hated to admit it, but she didn't have much time left, and the last thing Liam needed to do was leave. "Scott's doing everything he can.." The lady began to explain, only for Liam to interrupt her rudely.
"He's not doing enough!" Liam snapped, pacing back and fourth as he looked down at the love of his life, a tear slipping out of his eye, "He promised me he would do what he could to save her. He used her as bait, which is why she didn't want to tell anyone what was happening to her in the first place! And now.. Now she's dying." Liam informed the nurse, as she looked down at Cassie sadly, knowing that the girl never deserved any of this. "I need to do something, I can't.. I can't watch her die. I love her." He said, his voice breaking at the end as he wiped away the tears that had fallen whilst talking about her. "I'm going to save her." He declared.
And before Melissa could say anything else, the boy was gone, leaving her alone with the dying girl, tears of her own streaming down her face. She hated how everyone had left Cassie to die on her own, granted, the girl had her, but she didn't matter, not as much as her dad or Stiles. "Melissa?" Cassie asked, keeping her eyes shut as opening them just made her head spin out of control. She couldn't see anything, but she was scared of being alone, the girl reaching out her hand until she felt Melissa's hand wrap around her own. "You didn't leave me." She stated in surprise, knowing that Liam had left since she didn't sense him in the room anymore.
"I'm not going anywhere sweetie." Melissa told the girl, stroking her hair in a motherly way, in a way that Cassie needed right now. "I'm right here." She said, Cassie crying even more at the woman's words,
The young girl slowly peeled open her eyes to see Melissa's tear struck face looking down at her, "You've always been so good to me and Stiles. I've never thanked you." The girl whispered, being too weak to speak properly. But Melissa could hear her over the slow beeping on the machine, the one that showed her heart rate slowing down as more time went on, the girl was slowly dying, her heart slowly giving up, after hours of fighting to stay beating. "I love you, mom." She said, her eyes slowly shutting yet again, the tear falling out of her eye now shining silver.
Melissa sobbed as the machine flatlined, the girls heart finally giving up, and Cassie falling with it — the girl dying with just Melissa by her side, and no one else.
Cassie Stilinski was dead.
When Liam heard Mason's words piercing through his mind, he froze with his hand raised in the air, just about to claw open Scott's chest. "Cassie's dead, Liam. She's gone." Mason cried, having walked in on Cassie's dead body on the table, and Melissa crying on her, the woman unable to save her. He was too late to be with her whilst she died, and he hated himself for it, but Liam didn't have any excuse, since he was over here fighting Scott whilst Cassie laid dying alone. "She died alone." He added, causing Liam's claws to retract, the boy not saying a single word as he ran out of the library with full speed and back to the hospital where Ellie and Hayden sat with Cassie's body, having been called by Melissa at the same time, whilst Cassie was still alive — the girl hadn't been able to hold out long enough to say goodbye.
So when Liam rushed back to the hospital, barging to the room he left Cassie in, and saw the love of his life dead in Ellie's lap, his heart shattered into tiny pieces. "Why did you leave her?" Ellie sobbed, as Hayden tried to comfort her, "Why did you let her die alone you son of a bitch!" She cried, rocking back and fourth as Liam lowered himself to the ground next to her, tears streaming down his own face as he looked down at Cassie, the girl looking like she was sleeping peacefully. "She's gone." Ellie cried, looking up at Liam as he cried just as hard as she did.
And they cried with her body, up until the moment she was taken by Parish in his hellhound form. The moment her body being taken away, being the moment they realised she was really gone, and she wasn't coming back.
