𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗻; consumed by guilt
"weaponized"
WHEN STILES AND NOAH STILINSKI saw Cassie in the hospital bed, barely looking alive and looking the smallest she had ever looked, they both felt immense guilt for not being there for her when Garrett had attacked, or even notice that she was missing from school, having just gathered she was there for the day. Noah didn't know why the school hadn't informed him she had never made it there, and he was the most angry he's ever felt that his little girl got hurt. Scott had tried getting in contact with both of the Stilinski's that day, but had failed each time as they were both busy; when Scott had seen Noah later on in the night on the same day that he was trying to get Cassie and Liam back, he had told him him everything, all of the information he needed in order to make Noah want to lock away Garrett for the rest of his sad little life.
Liam had also told them all that Cassie now knew everything about the supernatural in Beacon Hills, with the pack and the list of supernatural whom were being targeted, as Garrett had told her something was up with them all, and Liam didn't have it in him to lie to her yet again, as he actually really liked the girl.. Overall, Cassie had taken the news well, not freaking out in the slightest, mostly because she had known something was up with them all, but not knowing what it was, but maybe that was because she thought that she was dying, and wouldn't see anyone ever again. No one knew how she would take the news when she woke up, and they will have to ask her if she remembered anything Liam had told her the night before.
Liam had stayed at the hospital with Cassie all night while she slept through the night, after Scott and Deaton had managed to get the wolf's bane out of his system, that Garrett had stabbed him with, he was feeling much better now, but still felt horrible and guilty about Cassie, as it was his fault she even was in this situation in the first place.
Luckily for Cassie, no major organs were effected with the stabbing from Garrett, and she would be fine, as all she needed was a lot of rest and some stitches. It was a miracle that nothing was affected by the wound, it was like Garrett hadn't actually meant to kill her, only injure her so she couldn't get out of the well, and make Scott believe that if he didn't help him, she would die with Liam.. So Cassie was now stuck in the hospital until she could be discharged by Melissa.
A few hours before, before Cassie had even been bought into the hospital, the girl was rushed into the hospital by Chris Argent, as fast as he could, as Scott had to take Liam to Deaton immediately, to get the wolf's bane out of his system, before he died from it. Cassie was immediately taken into surgery to fix any damage that had been done to the side of her stomach. Luckily for the girl, it had been a pretty clean stab wound, having not affected any major organs, meaning that the girl would be fine over time, and would make a full recovery. The only main issue is that she had lost a lot of blood, so she needed a transfusion as soon as possible. It was a few hours before her colour finally came back, and she was no longer as white as a ghost.
After her successful surgery, she was still fast asleep in her hospital room, while Noah and Stiles each sat by her bed, each looking equally as guilty and upset at the events that had taken place during the day that they hadn't been able to stop in time. "Maybe if we would have told her everything about everyone, she wouldn't be in this situation, and she would have known to stay away from Garrett." Stiles suggested to his dad, as he had dried tears down his face from looking at how vulnerable his younger sister looked, and the fact that she had looked dead when he first came to visit her. It had been a sight he never wanted to see again..
"Don't say that, Stiles." Noah told him, knowing that it wasn't anyone's fault but Garrett's, they just wanted to keep her safe, was that too much to ask? He felt like he had failed his daughter, and he hated himself for it, "We couldn't have known this would happen, this isn't our fault." He said, shaking his head at his son.
"I thought that not telling her anything would keep her safe, and away from all of this." Stiles voiced out, looking at his sleeping sister, sadly, as he held her hand, her small, tiny hand that was swallowed by his own hand.
"I know, Stiles." Noah said, sighing at his sons words, "I know." He admitted, knowing that he had thought the exact same thing, that keeping his daughter away from all of this mess would have protected her, but tonight had just proved how wrong the two of them were..
From this day forward, they were going to ensure that each of them protected Cassie at all costs, to ensure nothing like this would happen again, they would keep her safe, no matter what got in their way.
——
It had been a couple of days since Cassie was first brought into the hospital by Chris, and Cassie had finally woken up from her surgery and was feeling incredibly weak, but didn't feel as much pain in her stomach due to the medication that she had been given, and she was still feeling a little dopey from the whole thing, but the doctors confirmed that she was healing well, and would make a full recovery in no time. Stiles had his PSAT's tests today, along with all of his other friends, except Lydia, who had taken hers in freshman year before everyone else. Cassie had always wondered how that girl was so smart..
"You can't miss your PSAT's Stiles." Cassie told him, after he had suggested that he should retake them another time, so he could stay with her in the hospital. "I don't mind if you go." She said, knowing inside that she would actually want him to leave, so she could think over everything without Stiles watching her, checking if she was okay every minute of the day. She knew that he was heartbroken over everything, and he wished that he had told her about the supernatural sooner, but she couldn't help but feel upset that he hadn't told her when he first found out about Scott, after all, they were close siblings, who told each other almost everything, well.. Cassie told him everything, she only realised now that Stiles obviously didn't feel the same way about sharing everything with her. She really thought they had a special sibling bond, but she thought wrong..
Stiles looked over at Noah, who nodded at him, silently saying he should go and take his tests, before sighing in annoyance, obviously wanting to stay with his sister, "Fine." He huffed, "But I'm coming straight here after I've done, okay?" He assured her, not wanting to leave her alone, even if she did have their dad here..
Cassie nodded at Stiles, giving him a forced smile which didn't meet her eyes, before he leant down, kissed her on the top of her head and rushed off to meet Scott, who was waiting in the hallway for when they had to go to the school in order to take their tests. When he left Cassie and Noah, the room was left in awkward silence, neither of them knowing what to say to each other, which is a first, as the two could normally talk about anything.
Cassie didn't know what to say to her dad now, did he know about everything, for how long did he know? If he did, why wouldn't he tell her about it? She thought they were all closer than that. She felt the same about Stiles, she was hurt that neither of them trusted her enough with the truth about what was going on in this town - after all this time, she thought she was going crazy with all of this thinking about how they were hiding something, when all along, she was right, they were hiding something. Something big.
After a few seconds of silence, Cassie decided to just come out and say it, just wanting to get the answer out now, rather than later. "Did you know?" She blurted out, looking over at her dad with saddened eyes.
Her dad looked up at her with sadness, hating the look that was currently presented on his daughters face, "I'm sorry, sweetie." He told her, causing her to look away from him in hurt, not wanting to believe that the one man she trusted with her whole life, had lied to her, for years. "We only did it to protect you, I know that's not want you want to hear, but it's what me and Stiles thought was right.." He began to explain, only for Cassie to interrupt him.
"Look how that turned out." Cassie muttered, motioning to herself in annoyance. She was angry with her dad, to say the least. How long had he known about this whole thing? Was this the reason as to why she was sent away for a few months? All she felt at the moment, was hurt, and she hated it, she hated this feeling, the feeling that they didn't trust her enough to let her in on the details. She was hurting.
"We never meant for you to get hurt, Cass." Noah told her, softly, wanting her to believe so badly, that he didn't do this out of spite, he truly believed that he was doing the right thing by his daughter. "Ever since your mother, I've wanted to keep you and Stiles safe, it's all I've ever wanted, for you two to have a happy life." He explained.
Cassie sighed and eventually looked up at him, knowing that he did mean well, but it didn't change the fact that she was hurt, she was heartbroken, "So... The night I got attacked at the hospital?" She asked, wanting to know if she wasn't imagining that, either - Liam had explained some things to her down in the well, but due to the lack of blood in her system, she hadn't exactly paid much attention, also, she wanted to hear it come from her dads mouth..
Noah nodded slowly at her words, not knowing much about the wendigo and any other supernatural creatures besides Scott and Malia, it was all a lot for him to handle, "That, I don't know much about." He told her truthfully, this time, knowing that he might as well just come out with everything. "He was a wendigo, if I remember correctly." He informed her.
Cassie nodded, knowing that he actually hadn't lied to her about that - he truly didn't know what that kid was and why he attacked Cassie. There was still one though possessing her mind, so she went ahead and asked about what happened around the time that she got sent away for a few months to live with her distant aunt, and what he said shocked her.
Stiles had been possessed by some sort of evil spirit, a nogistune, and he was killing everyone, along with injuring his own friends, and threatening to kill Cassie, too and her dad didn't want her in the crossfire, knowing that she would be used as bait, as she didn't know anything about anyone at the time, and would be in danger, so he simply sent her to stay with her aunt for a while, before everything was sorted out and it was safe for her to return. He didn't find out until a little while before Stiles had gotten possessed, so he hadn't known about the supernatural for that long.
She was a little glad at this, as she always though that she was sent away from something she did to her dad and brother, like she had upset them in some kind of way. Obviously she wasn't glad that Stiles had been possessed by such an evil thing; but she was glad that it wasn't her fault that she was sent away, but the spirits.
"I'm not mad." She told her dad, after he had explained, mostly everything. It's the truth, she wasn't. She was just disappointed, and mostly upset, that they couldn't trust her with the truth about the town they lived in.
"You're not?" He asked in confusion, having expected her to shout at him, or give him the silent treatment, or something.
"I mean, I'm really hurt that you and Stiles both lied to me for so long, but I guess, that I have to move on." She told him in all honesty. "I'm not forgiving you, if that's what you think, I'm still upset that you two kept this from me, I just.. I don't know how to take this all in." She explained to her dad. Cassie had just found out that her whole life was basically a lie - there was so much that her family and the people she considered friends, kept from her, and it just hurt that she had to find out from someone that wasn't her dad or brother, as she felt that they should have been the ones to tell her, way before all of this happened..
"We really didn't mean for you to get hurt." Noah told her once more, grabbing her hand, causing her to pull it away, breaking his heart once again, as he knew that their relationship wouldn't go back to how it once was. He sighed, "I promise you, that I will not let anything like this happen to you again." He said, giving her a hug, which she eventually hesitantly returned, not wanting it to be awkward. Although, she still wasn't happy with him or Stiles, and it was going to be a long time until she came to terms with everything that has happened..
After talking some more about everything, and hearing her dad's stories about the past year and how he had found out about the supernatural himself, he had gotten a call from the station, about the school being on shut down due to some disease outbreak, where Stiles and his friends were.. Cassie had insisted that she would be fine here, and that she could call Ellie to keep her company, really meaning that she wanted to be left alone, without Stiles or him.
So, after a short debate about leaving her alone, her dad had eventually left, leaning her with with nothing but her thoughts.
She was torn between forgiving her family straight away, or not. They obviously had a reason to keep her in the dark and they thought that they were doing right by her, but what they didn't realise, was that they were causing her more hurt from keeping it from her. Maybe if they would have told her the truth from the beginning, she would have been able to avoid Garrett altogether, maybe she wouldn't have been stabbed and had to go through surgery. She would have ran away from him as soon as she got the chance, or not even hung around with him or his girlfriend at school.
Could they trust her? Is that the reason they kept it from her? Because they couldn't trust her with the secret? That she would tell people? If that was the case, they didn't know Cassie at all.
How was she supposed to keep this huge secret from Ellie and Mason? She didn't understand how Liam had been doing it all this time; he even lied to her. Straight to her face, over and over again. He claimed that he didn't want to keep it from her, but Stiles had threatened that if he said anything, he was bathe Liam in wolfsbane.
She just didn't know what to do. She was lost..
