𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗻𝗲; lending stiles money
'the dark moon'
CASSIE WOKE UP WITH A loud sigh as she looked up at her ceiling with a longing look; school would be starting in a few days, after a small holiday break. She was nervous to go back, having not been there for a while, but she knew that she had her best friend, Ellie, to go through it with, and that she wouldn't have to go through it alone.
Most people that Cassie knew had to take the bus to school, as they don't know anyone that could drive, but Cassie was ultimately relieved and lucky that she had her older brother, Stiles, to drive her in everyday with his trusty jeep that seemed to have lasted through anything. Cassie had never seen something so strong - she was sure that the thing should have stopped working at this point..
Although, Stiles' new girlfriend, Malia, would be in the same car every morning as they drove to school, and Cassie didn't know what to think of the girl. She wasn't the easiest person to get along with, and Cassie wasn't sure that the girl liked her at all. As much as she tried to be nice to the girl, she's just blatantly rude all of the time, and it was like she didn't even care that she hurt Cassie's feeling countless of times.
Malia even calls her Casey everyday, after many attempts of reminding Malia what her name actually is, she can never get it right, and it pained Cassie to no end.
Her dad, Noah, was the sheriff of Beacon Hills, meaning that he wasn't home much either; and neither was Stiles, as a matter of fact, meaning that Cassie had to fend for herself for most days, doing stuff that she shouldn't have to do at her young age. She knows how to cook and do most house chores, like doing the households washing.
She was basically the mother of the house, since her mom had died seven years prior. She didn't mind one bit, if it meant helping out her brother and dad, especially her dad, who worked countless hours to ensure that herself and Stiles had the best quality of life he could give. Cassie owed her father everything - he was her world.
Around the time of last year, however, her dad had become extra protective over Cassie and what she did on a day to day basis, and she didn't even know why. He was already a pain to her, when it came to curfews and going out with her friends, but it had become unbearable since last year, like something had switched in him overnight..
Of course, it has died down incredibly since then, but she had been sent off to her aunts for a few months at the beginning of the year, with no explanation, and she still doesn't know why, her dad wouldn't tell her, and still won't. She hated it.
When she finally came back from her stay at her aunts, she had found out that one of her brothers friend, Alison, had passed away while Cassie wasn't home, from a mugging.
Cassie didn't know the girl very well, but from what she did know, she was a really nice girl. Lydia was broken up over it, having lost her best friend, and Cassie sure did like Lydia a lot. Her brother has had a crush on her for so long, since she could remember, and she knew that he obviously still does, but he's with Malia now, so he had to move on.
She got her fashion taste from Lydia, she's basically her idol, like her older sister, and Cassie would do anything for her, for being so kind to her over the years and treating her like her own sister - she loved Lydia.
But that's how it is with the Stilinski household, Cassie would always be out of the loop, always. She knew that her dad and Stiles knew something, she just didn't know what. But she wanted to find out, and she wanted to make it her life mission to do so.
She sighed again, and eventually pulled herself out of her bed, ready to make her way towards her bathroom to wash and get ready for the day ahead of her, as she had plans.
She was supposed to be meeting up with her best friend, Ellie, and a new friend that they had met over the course of the holidays, Mason. He was a nice guy, and Cassie already adored him.
Once she had finished showering and washing herself, she wrapped her towel around herself and walked back to her cold bedroom to gather her outfit for the day. Only for Stiles to barge in through the door without even knocking first.
Cassie shrieked at the sudden noise and speed of her brother, having not expected him to barge in like that - she wondered what he wanted, as he would only come into her room to either ask for something, or talk to her about something important.
"Stiles! What the hell!" Cassie yelled, pulling her towel up as she had slightly dropped it in fear of Stiles barging in. It was the last thing she expected, and it had caught her off guard.
Stiles quickly covered his eyes, not wanting to see anything he didn't want to see. "Um, sorry, sorry." He stuttered, now feeling incredibly awkward about the situation he was in, "Um... I need to borrow some money." He eventually told her, knowing that she had worked over the holidays for extra cash so she didn't have to ask their father for any, as they both knew he was barely scraping by at the moment..
Cassie sighed and rolled her eyes, knowing that he was going to ask something like that - he would often ask for money to do whatever with his friends, but she never knew what they were up to. Stiles and his friends reminded her of the goonies.. "Stiles, you don't need to stand there like that, I'm covered up." She told him, already making her way towards her desk where she kept her money in her pink piggy bank.
Stiles reluctantly removed his hand from his eyes after her words but kept them anywhere but aimed at Cassie. Why did her brother have to be so awkward all of the time?
"Why do you need money?" She eventually asked him, hoping that this time he would actually tell her instead of lying like he usually did.
"Umm." He trailed off, quickly thinking of a lie he could tell her so she wouldn't find out the truth, that he had been keeping from her for so long. He then sighed, knowing that she would be able to buy through it in a heartbeat. "We're going to, ahh... Mexico." He told her, knowing that there was no reason to keep it a secret as to where he and his friends were going; he would just have to miss out some minor details.. Like trying to find Derek Hale who had been missing for weeks on end.
Cassie's eyes widened in surprise, that being that they were going to Mexico, of all places. Did their dad know about this? Was he okay with it? "Mexico?" She asked in disbelief, maybe thinking that she had misheard his words.
School was tomorrow, she didn't know how he could make it to Mexico and back within one day and not miss anything, surely their dad would find out if he did miss school, then he would he in heaps of trouble. Just like usual..
"Yeah... Mexico." Stiles told her, scratching the back of his head in awkwardness, "I need money for petrol." He told her, knowing that she had the money, and that he could pay her back as soon as possible. Even know he never has, Cassie didn't care - it stopped her dad from worrying about money, so she would always be happy to lend some to her brother.
Cassie tilted her head at her brother in complete confusion, she knew his group of friends were all a little weird, but going to Mexico, just a day before school started again, was a bit of a stretch, and she didn't know how they were going to get away with it. It's not like they were just taking a small road trip, they were going to Mexico, that's far.
"Does dad know you're going to Mexico?" Cassie asked, already knowing the answer, but wanting to hear it from Stiles mouth first.
"No." Stiles instantly told her, shaking his head, "And you can't tell him." He said, knowing that Cassie wouldn't tell their dad if he just asked her - she was good like that, and he was glad to have a sister like her.
Cassie nodded her head slowly at him, before eventually finding her purse in one of her draws, knowing that Stiles would need more than just the money in her piggy back. She opened it up and pulled out her card, holding it up with her two fingers, basically dangling it in front of his face, "Only because I'm a great sister." She told him, with a smirk, as she eventually handed him her card. "Why are you going to Mexico?" Cassie quickly asked him before he could run out of her room and get back into his jeep with Scott, as she just knew that he was waiting outside for him.
Stiles' left eye twitched in irritation at her annoying questions, "To a... To go on a..." He trailed off, trying to think of what to tell her. He couldn't just tell her that they were looking for their werewolf friend who they feared to be dead.. "Camping trip." Stiles eventually told her, quite proud at his lie, believing that she wouldn't question it.
She raised an eyebrow at him, knowing that this was a lie, "Right..." She trailed off, Stiles face showed a sign of panic before she smiled at him, "Have fun." She said, not wanting to bother in what he and his friends are up to this time.
Stiles sighed in relief, hoping that she wouldn't question any further, "Thankyou, again." Stiles said, motioning to her card that he now had in his hands, "See you later." He said, before running out of her room and out of the house in such speed that he looked like a blur.
Cassie then heard the front door slam shut and Stiles' jeep start causing her to sigh in annoyance, knowing he had obviously lied to her, "Camping trip my arse." She mumbled, before getting ready for the day ahead.
After getting ready, Cassie was now at her best friend Ellie's house, waiting for her to get ready so they could go and meet Mason for the day. Cassie was currently ranting to Ellie about her dad and brother lying to her, all of the time, but Ellie wasn't paying much attention, per usual, as she thought that Ellie was over reacting.
"It's like I'm not even there sometimes." Cassie huffed, crossing her arms in annoyance as she went on her rant, "They both know something that I don't, and they're so secretive around me because they don't want me knowing whatever it is. It's such a pain, I hate it." She complained, now leaning back on the bed as she stared ahead of her in anger.
Instead of listening, Ellie was currently admiring herself in the mirror as she replied to her friend, "Well, you are the only girl in the family, it wouldn't surprise me that they have a little secret club that you're not involved in." She snickered, finding the whole situation humorous - Cassie had always been like this with her dad and brother, and she thought that she was always too suspicious of what they did on a daily.
"It's not funny." Cassie told her, pouting at her friend. "They sent me away for a couple of months because they didn't want me knowing something. I'm not over thinking about this." She told her, knowing that she was right about this.
"Well, I'm an only child, so I wouldn't know anything about that." Ellie told her, shrugging.
Cassie looked up at her with an annoyed expression, "He went to Mexico today..." She told her, when Ellie didn't show any reaction, she huffed even louder, "Mexico." She repeated, throwing her hands up to create emphasis. That was a whole other country, and she couldn't believe that Ellie didn't find it strange that they had gone there on a whim.
"Okay?" Ellie asked, looking up at Cassie to find the girl red in the face at the fact Ellie wasn't seeing her point.
Cassie huffed in annoyance and let her hands drop to her side, "Never-mind." She eventually mumbled, knowing that there was no point arguing with Ellie as she would never see what Cassie sees.
Once Ellie had finally finished getting dressed and she had done applying her makeup, she turned around with a bright smile on her face, "Ready?" She asked.
Cassie nodded, and grabbed her bag in order to leave Ellie's house for a day of no Stiles and Noah.
——
Later on that same night, Cassie had made a dinner for her and her dad for when he got back from work, whilst Stiles was still in Mexico with his friends, their dad still not knowing where he was. Her dad asked her a question as they ate at the table. "Do you know where Stiles went?" Noah asked her, hoping that she knew the truth, and that Stiles would have told her where he went.
Cassie paused as she was about to take a mouthful of food, she didn't like lying to her dad, but her and stiles both had a pact that when it came down to it, they would both keep secrets if it's needed, and this is just one of them times.
She shrugged, "He said he went camping." Cassie told him, before shoving more food in her mouth, hoping that he wouldn't ask her another question.
Noah absently nodded, "I feel like that boy is up to something, again." He mumbled, mostly to himself. He had hoped that since he found out the truth, Stiles would stop lying to him about a lot of things, but it seemed that nothing had changed, and he was still lying to his face.
"Isn't he always up to something?" Cassie retorted, with an eyebrow raised at her father.
Stiles was almost always doing something shady, or completely idiotic from day to day. Sometimes she and her dad wondered if he wasn't adopted from the traits that he had gained, as he was nothing like the two of them.
Her dad nodded at her with a hum, before looking back up at her, "Anyway, how have you been? I feel like we haven't spoken much, lately." Noah asked her, hoping to change the subject.
"That's because you're always at work." Cassie told him, not realising she hurt him with her words. She sighed, knowing just how that sounded, "I didn't mean it like that, I'm sorry." She didn't miss the guilty look on her dad's face as she continued, "I got an A in my Spanish test." She told him, not knowing what else to say.
Her dad's eyes widened as he looked at her proudly, not a look that he gave Stiles often, "That's great, well done sweetheart." He told her with a smile.
Cassie felt, somewhat, awkward around her dad and brother as of lately. They didn't speak about the time that she spent after she had been sent off to her aunts to live for a couple of months, but they both knew that Cassie knew something, there was something up, and she could tell.
She had asked the two of them so many times to not lie to her, and tell her if they were hiding anything from her, but neither of them said anything to her about it, lying once again.
She didn't understand what they were hiding, but she was going to find out, no matter what it took.
