𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐲; another small adventure
"dreamcatchers"
THE SECOND CASSIE WOKE UP from her small nap during her class, she knew she was in deep trouble - as the bell rang, she rushed out of class and straight to her locker without looking at anyone else, where she then planned on grabbing her things and heading straight home, not wanting to see anyone else for the rest of the day. She just wanted to go and rest, and hopefully find out why she was having these terrifying nightmares. However, that thought had exited her mind, the second Theo approached her, looking sympathetic at the expression on the girls face, as he knew what was happening to her, only, no one else knew that..
"Hey Cassie." Theo greeted sweetly, as he came up to stand besides her by her locker, hoping to talk to her.
Cassie didn't know why he was currently talking to her, or why he even wanted to talk to her after the night in the woods with Liam and Stiles, and she knew that her brother wouldn't exactly appreciate the conversation between the two, but she couldn't exactly send him away, that was simply rude, and she wasn't like that..
"Hey, Theo, what's up?" Cassie eventually asked, shutting her locker and fully facing the elder boy who smiled down at her - she found it almost creepy, how he acted around everyone, but she pushed the feeling aside, not wanting to believe her gut instinct lately as she wasn't doing so well..
"I just wanted to see how you're holding up." Theo told her, giving her a knowing look. Cassie frowned at this action, why was he looking at her as if he knew something? Did he know something? Surely he wouldn't be giving her that look if he didn't..
"I'm fine." Cassie told him, shrugging as she did so. She didn't take much notice to Theo, in fact, she tried to avoid him altogether, knowing that Stiles would not be happy if he saw them talking to each other, as he hated Theo's guts. "Shouldn't you be at the animal clinic with the others?" She then asked, knowing that they were all helping Tracy out and figuring out what to do with the girl.
Theo nodded at her question, "Yeah, I just wanted to check up on you first, see how you're doing." He told her, putting his hand on her arm, looking her in the eyes, "If you need anything, anything at all, you let me know, okay? I know how it must feel to only know about everything recently, didn't they lie to you for quite a while?" He asked, almost as if he was trying to get a rise out of the girl.
Cassie didn't like that she had just been reminded of how her brother and his friends had lied to her for so long, it was just bringing up bad memories that she had tried to push down into the back of her mind. Why was he reminding her?
Cassie fakely smiled up at him, noticing that he was trying to be incredibly nice to her, which was strange, as she thought he would be anything but, the fact that Stiles gave him such a hard time, she just wasn't expecting it. "Yeah, they did." She spoke, the smile never leaving her face as she tried to hide the hurt that flashed across it - she hated that she had just been reminded of everything, as her mood had now dropped incredibly. "That's really nice of you." She said, sarcastically, something that Theo didn't miss, but he didn't mention it.
"It's no problem. Just keep that in mind, okay?" Theo then asked her, causing her to nod. He gave her a warm and welcoming smile, before leaving her in the hallway alone, wondering why he was being so weird and trying to be nice to her and bring up old trauma.. But what she didn't know, was that it was part of his plan.
As she watched Theo walk away from her, she turned around to walk the opposite way, only to see Liam standing in front of her, not looking happy one bit at what he had just seen. "What did he want?" He asked, not bothering to say hello to her or ask how she was doing since she had been hurt by Tracy just a little while ago..
"Hello to you, too." Cassie mumbled to him, watching as Liam gave Theo a death glare from behind his back, "He was just checking up on me, what's your deal?" She asked, wondering why he was so angry all of a sudden, she had only spoken to Theo for a second, why was he so angry about it? The boy didn't seem like he was doing that much harm, it seemed like he just wanted to help..
"Stiles told you not to talk to him." Liam then told her, narrowing his eyes at her, as if he was scolding the girl for even looking in Theo's direction, something that she didn't appreciate one bit.
Cassie scoffed at Liam, now annoyed at him, "I'm not about to ignore the guy, come on." She told him, he knew that she was a nice and polite girl, no way could she have just sent him away, he was only trying to be polite to her, even if it had come across in the wrong way. Liam shook her head at her, instead of replying, he took her hand and began to pull her out of the school doors, "Where are we going?" She asked him, just as they approached Mason, waiting for them at the school exit to get on with their task.
"Hey, Cass." Mason greeted, happily, when they caught up with him. He looked incredibly happy to be involved in whatever Liam had planned, and Cassie didn't exactly want to ruin that happiness because of her mood, so instead, she smiled at him.
After Cassie had sent him a small smile, she spoke up, "Hey, Mase." She replied, as they exited the school. Cassie then furrowed her brows, at the fact none of the boys had told her where they were taking her, "Is someone going to finally tell me where we're going?" She asked, hoping that they would tell her where she was being dragged off too.
"We have to go to Denvord Prep." Liam finally told her, causing her to look even more confused at his words, it making no sense to her whatsoever.
"Why's that?" Cassie voiced out.
Liam sighed, and stopped in front of her, holding her in place, "We need to ask Brett if Tracy was in Satomi's pack." He told her, "Of if she even knows Satomi." He explained.
Cassie slowly nodded, "Okay." She said. Liam and Mason began walking again, causing her to sigh, "This should be fun." She mumbled.
——
After a long bus ride to the other high school, they were now on the field of Denvord Prep, waiting for Brett so they could talk to him about Tracy; Cassie really didn't like it here, it was full of stuck up jocks, she didn't understand how Liam could originally be from here, as he seemed completely different to everyone in this school, but then again, maybe their school had humbled him. The three looked around to find Brett, only to find him completely topless, on the other side of the field, smirking as he got changed.
"So, he's a werewolf too?" Mason asked the two of his friends, eyeing up the boy with complete lust, obviously finding him attractive.
"Yup." Liam replied in a bitter tone, not happy that Cassie and Mason were currently checking the boy out; mostly Cassie, as she looked over at him, and he could hear her heart rate speed up. Even though the two had been slight distant lately, he still didn't want her near any other guys, or checking any out, especially while he was with her.
"This just gets better and better." Mason voiced out, smiling at Brett's topless state, almost having daydreams in his head already about the two of them..
Cassie chuckled at Mason and slung her arm around Liam's waist, giving him a slight squeeze, showing him that he was the only guy she had eyes for, and that she only liked him. She stood on her tip toes to peck him on the cheek, before he put his own arm around the small girl with a smirk now present on his face, before following Mason over to Brett.
It didn't take them long to drag Brett away from his friends, and before they knew it, they were showing him the picture of Tracy on Liam's phone, asking if he knew who the girl was and if she was in his pack.
"Cute." Brett commented at the photo, as he looked over the picture of Tracy that Liam was showing him on his phone, his gaze landed back on the trio after he looked at it, "But, never seen her." He eventually told them, causing them to slouch in defeat, now back to square one again.
"Could Satomi have turned her without you knowing?" Liam questioned him, as he kept staring at the picture of Tracy, trying to find any information from the photo in front of him, trying to come up with something, something that could help them..
Brett shook his head at Liam's question, "After the dead pool, Satomi's not exactly doing much recruiting." He stated, remembering how many of their own they had lost during that dreadful time.
"That's how it works?" Mason asked in disbelief, "Alpha werewolves just go around biting people?" He asked, surprised at how all of this worked - he still couldn't believe any of this, it shocked him.
Cassie gave Mason a look as to say 'shut up', to which he replied with a shrug, not being able to help that he was incredibly excited about this whole thing, still. "Or you can be born, like me and my sister. Satomi took us in after our family died in a fire." Brett explained to Mason.
Cassie was about to say something else about Mason, only for Liam to cut her off. "Guys, I think I just found something." He told them all, causing Cassie to quickly look over at what had his attention. His phone was zoomed in on a photo of Tracy, focused on the necklace she was wearing...
"So, you know where you're going?" Brett asked Liam, as the four teenagers trudged through the woods, it now being dark, and they were hoping to get back to the hole that Liam had fallen in the night before when they were searching for Theo. If Cassie's dad ever found out about her tracking through the woods at nighttime again, she will sure be in a load of trouble, in fact, she wouldn't be surprised if he tried to murder her..
"I know where I am." Liam argued back, having a clear idea in his head at where the whole was, and how to get there. Cassie knew that Liam was slightly lost, but she didn't want to hurt his feelings, so she simply followed behind the three boys in silence, her thoughts involuntary going back to her multiple nightmares that she was having.
"So do I." Brett started to say, as he motioned around at their surroundings, "The middle of nowhere." He told them, with a scoff coming from his mouth in annoyance - he didn't know why he even agreed to come along..
"You know, if my dad finds out that I'm tracking through the woods at night, again. I'm going to be dead." Cassie told the boys, as she trailed behind them, finally speaking up for the first time since entering the woods. "You'll be coming to my...." She suddenly got cut off, as she fell into a hole, causing her to groan in pain from the impact. "Funeral." She muttered, finishing her sentence. She looked up to see that the boys were still walking, having not noticed that she had fallen, being too involved with searching for the hole. "Guys!" She called. As she heard them begin walking closer to her, she called out to them again again, "I think I found it." She revealed, and as she said this, the three boys stood above the hole and looked down at her in expectance.
"See the necklace?" Liam asked her, eager to find it. It didn't even cross his mind that she could be hurt from the fall.
Cassie scoffed at her boyfriend again, something she had been doing a lot lately, "I'm fine, by the way." She muttered to him, before pulling out the flashlight on her phone to look around the dark area she was stuck in, "Thanks, Liam, really caring boyfriend." Cassie scoffed again, incredibly annoyed at how he was acting around her, like he didn't care..
Cassie was looking through the mud in the hole for the necklace, ignoring the strange feeling she had for being in here, like she had been here before.. She then spotted a ring that was wedged into the soil. She quickly dug it out and got a better look at it; which she furrowed her brows at, her ring? "Find anything?" Liam asked, noticing that she wasn't saying anything.
She knew Liam could tell when she was lying, so she simply told the truth, "Yeah, my ring." Cassie told him, before slipping it back onto her finger, making a mental reminder to wash it later, and then began searching for the necklace again, "Must have dropped it when we were last here." She spoke up, before she sighed in defeat, "The necklace isn't here." She announced, looking back up at the three, "Can someone now lift me out, please? I don't like it in here." She told them.
Brett and Liam took each hand and lifted her up out of the dirt carefully, making sure not to hurt the girl, when Liam furrowed his brows at the look of her arm, "Didn't you get cut by Tracy earlier?" Liam asked her, holding her arm in place so he could keep looking at it. He was sure that she was bleeding, where was the wound?
Cassie instantly shook her head at him, having a feeling inside of her stomach that she couldn't tell him anything, for whatever reason, she didn't know, she pulled her arm away from him and trued her hardest to keep her heartbeat steady as she spoke up again, "No, that was Tracy's blood." She then lied to him.
"Your heartbeat rose when you said that." Liam told her, crossing his arms and narrowing his eyes down at her. He didn't know what was going on with her lately, but she wasn't acting like herself since the beginning of the year had started, and he was beginning to seriously worry about her.
"My heartbeat is rising because I just fell in a damn hole, Liam!" Cassie exclaimed, annoyed with him, "Now, shut up." She snapped, shrugging out of his hold.
"Liam, I thought you said this was a sinkhole." Mason commented, ignoring the couples bickering, trying to defuse the situation at hand.
"It's a hole. What's the difference?" Liam retorted, looking away from Cassie and towards Mason, getting distracted from his suspicions on his girlfriend.
"I mean, look at all these handprints and look at all this dirt." Mason stated, crouching down and examining the hole.
"She didn't fall in here." Brett stated.
"She was buried." Liam finished, causing Cassie to have a shiver go down her spine. That didn't sound good.
"Intense."
Liam was now searching the hole for Tracy's necklace, as Cassie couldn't find it when she was down there, having only found her ring. "It isn't here." Liam finally stated, grunting in frustration as he had failed Scott once again.
"Maybe she came back for it." Brett commented, as he, Mason and Cassie looked down at Liam as he searched thoroughly in the hole, he was just about giving up on looking for the necklace, as it clearly wasn't in there.
After sighing, Liam jumped out of the hole effortlessly and stood next to his group of friends, "I don't think this is the one." He told the rest of the group.
"What do you mean?" Brett asked him, not knowing what he meant.
"It was closer to the bridge. Much closer." Liam told them, looking around in confusion - how could Cassie have fallen in if this wasn't even the hole that they were at?
Cassie looked around in confusion as Mason spoke up, "Then who crawled out of this one?" He asked, also confused, before he looked over at Cassie..
Cassie looked down at the hole with furrowed brows. If this wasn't the hole that Liam had fallen in, why was her ring in there? Had they even come this way when looking for Theo the other night?
After looking for the hole that Tracy had fallen in deeper in the woods, Brett had eventually taken Cassie to the police station in his car, as she needed to see her dad. Brett gave her a look as they pulled up outside of the station, causing Cassie to look towards him in confusion. "What?" She asked, noticing his look.
"Why am I the only one who is remembering that you found your ring in that hole?" Brett asked her, raising an eyebrow at the girl at the remembrance at what happened back at the woods, something only he had remembered.
Cassie felt her breath get caught in her throat at his words, knowing that she had been caught. "Look." She finally spoke, fully turning to Brett, halfway out of the car as she had begun to climb out before he spoke to her, "I don't know why it was in there, okay? But I would appreciate it if you didn't say anything to anyone, yet." Cassie asked him, "At least until I figure it out." She added. When he didn't say anything, she gave him a pleading look, "Please?" She asked.
Brett sighed, "Fine." He said, "But you should tell Liam, or your brother." He told her, knowing that this shouldn't be something she should just swipe under the rug. They needed to know.
"Thankyou! I will." Cassie said, opening the door, "Thanks for the lift." She thanked, as she then shut the door with a smile on her face. She watched as he drove away, hoping that he would do anything but tell anyone. Cassie didn't exactly know what was going on with her, and what her nightmares were all about, but she wanted to sort it out by herself first. Panicking the pack was the last thing she wanted to do, and if she wanted to find out what was happening to her, she had to do it alone..
