𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐧; a late night walk in the woods

"parasomnia"

CASSIE THOUGHT THAT HER EVENING would persist of working out with Liam and Mason at the schools gym, mostly complaining about it as Liam and Mason ignored her, but Stiles seemed to have other plans for Liam, and had dragged her boyfriend off on some stupid plan of his, and she knew it was stupid, as it was Stiles.. Obviously, Cassie didn't want to miss out on whatever they were doing, so right now, the girl was tracking the new boy known as Theo, through the large woods, at nighttime, where it was completely dark, where she could only see where she pointed her flashlight, with her brother and her boyfriend.
"Tell me why I decided to follow you two into the woods at this time of night?" Cassie complained to the two boy, cringing as she got mud on her new white shoes, "I should have just stayed at home." She mumbled. Obviously, when she had come along at first, she didn't realise that Stiles wanted to drag the two of them along through the woods, now, she was regretting every single choice she had ever made..

Cassie and Liam were slightly on the rocks with their relationship, with the boy lying to her, but that didn't stop them from hanging out with each other twenty-four/seven, it was just something they did now, and Cassie didn't know how she would feel if they stopped hanging out. Cassie had even told Liam of how she felt when everyone had lied to her a few months back, even crying in front of him at one point, with the whole supernatural business, so the fact that Liam felt the need to lie to Mason about himself being a werewolf, really upset Cassie; and she felt terrible for Mason. He deserved to know, Liam was his best friend, and Scott and Stiles had even instructed Liam to tell Mason, but the boy still won't do so.. Cassie wanted to tell him, but it wasn't her place to do so, so she was stuck in a bad situation.

Stiles turned back to Cassie, pausing in his footsteps as he rolled his eyes at her, "Well, you're stuck with us, now." He told Cassie, grabbing her arm so he could keep her walking besides him, as he was fed up of her slow speed, he just wanted to find Theo and finally find out what he had been doing and catch him in the act. "Now, keep up. He's up ahead." He complained, annoyed that she was taking so much time catching up with him and Liam.
After a few more minutes of the three teenagers walking at a fast pace, they all ducked behind a bush as they finally found Theo, and were able to watch Theo grab something from the trunk of his car from behind the bush so they weren't sen by him. Theo then look around at his surroundings suspiciously, then walked off in the opposite direction. "I told you guys that he was up to something." Stiles spoke quietly to them as they all kept crouched behind the bush.

"We just spent three hours watching this dude play video games in his bedroom." Liam complained, obviously not happy about the fact that him and Cassie couldn't be alone tonight, they needed it, with everything going on, and he needed to be alone with her so that he could explain everything with Hayden, and Mason.

"Which was so boring, can I add." Cassie commented, earning an eye roll from both of the boys, who were both fed up of her constant complaining about her shoes getting muddy, or how bored she was..

"He better be out here covering up a mass murder." Liam added, annoyed about the fact they had spent the whole evening watching this guy do absolutely nothing. He would always help Stiles out to get back into the boys good books, but he honestly didn't think that anything was up with this Theo guy. Stiles was always over exaggerating everything.

"Let's find out, then." Stiles told them, before they took off and followed behind Theo secretly. "You still got his scent?" Stiles asked Liam, as they walked through the woods yet again, ignoring Cassie's quiet complaints to herself as she mumbled about how annoying her brother was - it was obvious that she didn't see an issue with this boy, like Liam didn't, but again, this was her brother, so if he needed her help, she was going to help him - even if that meant following a boy through the woods at night and spying on him.

"Don't need it." Liam told Stiles, looking down at the footprints that Theo had left on the ground. The boy looked around them, before eventually stopping in front of the Stilinski siblings, causing both Stiles and Cassie to stop and look back at him as he had stopped.

"What? What's wrong?" Stiles instantly asked, as he walked back to stand besides him, excited that he had found something about Theo that he could use against him and prove to all of his friends that he wasn't crazy..

"I forgot, we were supposed to meet Mason back at the school gym." Liam told Cassie, sighing. He had often been forgetting about Mason and meeting him every now and then, as he had been so concentrated on Scott and his plans, as well as Cassie, that he hadn't been hanging out with his best friend as much, and he hated himself for it. No matter how many times Cassie had told him that he should tell Mason what he was, as it wasn't fair to keep it from him. Liam was scared, that was the only way to put it, he didn't want Mason to think any differently of him, as the guy was his only friend, he didn't want to loose him.

Cassie looked at Liam incredulously, not believing that Liam hadn't told Mason that the two of them weren't meeting him tonight, "You didn't tell him that we weren't coming?" She asked him, annoyed at how stupid he could be at times. When he shook his head, she scoffed at him, "Wow, he is gonna hate us." She complained, now adding another reason as to why she just wanted Liam to tell Mason that he was a werewolf.

"Okay, why don't you just tell him?" Stiles asked him, earning a confused look from Liam, while Cassie nodded at what her brother said, agreeing with him.

"Tell him what?" Liam asked, clearly not understanding.

"Anything." Stiles told him, as he looked around at their surroundings, wanting to get back to stalking Theo and finding out what the guy was up to.

"I can't just tell him anything." Liam told him, like he was crazy. Cassie thought otherwise, all he had to do was show Mason. When Liam looked over at her for help, she shrugged and stepped back, he knew how she felt about the situation, he shouldn't be asking her what she thought, or to step in and back him up.

"Why not?" Stiles asked in annoyance, while Cassie stood behind them with her hands in her hoodie pockets, trying to keep her warmth up as it was freezing out. Every minute just added more reasons as to why she wished she had just gone home, or met Mason without Liam for that workout.

"Because I haven't I haven't told him everything." Liam told Stiles, shrugging.

"Still?" Stiles asked him incredulously, looking back at Cassie, who nodded at his question, "We said it was okay." He then told Liam, turning back to the werewolf.

"Yeah, I know, but it's not that easy." Liam told him, not knowing how to word it, "I... It's a lot to accept." He stuttered, still scared to tell Mason the truth, he was afraid that he would hate him.

"He watched our dad blow up a Berserker with a land mine." Cassie told Liam, like she had a hundred times before, "And, I took it pretty well... I mean.. Well, I did ignore Stiles for a few weeks, but other than that, I took it alright." She told Liam, while Stiles nodded at her words, not being able to help himself by cringing at the memory of his sister ignoring him for weeks on end, it had been torture for him.

"Exactly, I think the groundwork's been pretty thoroughly laid for acceptance." Stiles told him, motioning towards Cassie, who was on his side with telling Mason everything, "Scott and I have been through this. Okay? More than once. It's always been better when they know." He said, remembering when he had found out that Scott was a werewolf, and Allison finding out, along with Lydia and Kira..

Cassie smiled slightly at her brother and boyfriend having a semi-what normal conversation without Stiles insulting the boy or making a sarcastic remark every few seconds; she liked it. Ever since Cassie and Liam had started dating a few months ago, Stiles couldn't help but insult or yell the poor boy at every chance he got, obviously still not liking the fact that the two of them were together..
Stiles started to walk forward again, causing Cassie to give a small forced smile at Liam, before following behind her brother, the two siblings both thinking that Liam should just come out and tell Mason about him being a werewolf.

Liam sighed, and looked down at his phone which had dozens of texts from Mason, asking Liam where he and Cassie were and if they had ditched him, before quickly catching up to the two siblings, now walking behind them, "But what if he freaks out? What if he doesn't want to talk to me? What if he tries to stab me with something silver? Or what if..." Liam's sentence was cut short, due to him falling into a large hole, grunting as he hit the ground at the bottom.

Cassie sounds around and looked down at him, before she burst out into laughter at the sight of her boyfriend down at the bottom of a hole, only for Stiles to shush her quickly due to her being too loud in such a silent area, as he was scared Theo might hear them all. "What the hell are you doing?" Stiles then asked Liam in annoyance, not caring that he was currently down a hole, he earned a shrug to come from Liam as the boy looked up, "I...There he is. Hurry up, stop screwing around." Stiles told him, before running off and leaving the young couple behind.

Cassie looked down at Liam, who had pulled his phone out, which filled with messages from Mason. She sighed as she could see how many Mason had sent him, "I honestly think that you should just tell him, Liam, it's getting to a point where you can't keep lying to him." Cassie told him softly, holding out a hand for him to grab and get out of the hole. She really didn't want the two boys to fall out over this, they were really close and it would be such a waste to just throw all of this away over such a little thing.

Liam sighed up at her, knowing that she was right, before turning on the flashlight on his phone to look in the hole that he had fallen in, leaving Cassie waiting with her hand held out. Before he could even do so, the two of them both suddenly heard a loud crunch in the distance, causing Liam to instantly spring up from the hole quickly, using his werewolf abilities, and he instantly stood in front of Cassie protectively, wanting to protect her from anything it could be. When they saw that nothing was there, Liam took her hand as they both eventually followed in the direction that Stiles went.

"Come on." Stiles encouraged as the young couple quickly approached him, he then pointed towards Theo as they crouched down, out of sight from Theo, "Try and get his scent." He told Liam. After a second of silence, he spoke again, "Get anything?" He asked.

"Soap." Liam confirmed, "It's nice, it smells good." Cassie looked at him strangely, wondering why he was complimenting Theo, before he quickly added, "Not as good as you." He told the girl, causing her to smile up at him sweetly.

"Not his soap, his emotional state." Stiles asked, interrupting the two's little moment, annoyed. Liam looked at him confusingly, obviously not understanding what he meant, "Chemosignals, remember?" Stiles added, in a duh tone.

"Oh, yeah. Okay." Liam instantly agreed, before taking a moment to smell Theo from afar, "I... He's sad." Liam eventually told him, confused, having not expected that from Theo.

"He's sad?" Cassie asked in confusion, also confused at the emotion Theo was feeling, now she felt bad about stalking him through the woods for an hour and watching him in his house.

"Well, not just sad It's more like grief." Liam corrected himself..

"Grief?" Stiles muttered, confused now, more than ever.

"That's what he just said." Cassie told Stiles, rolling her eyes at his stupid question. How many times did Liam have to repeat himself?

When Theo pulled out some flowers from the bag he was holding, and dropped one into the river, Stiles' eyes suddenly widened, "Oh, my god!" Stiles exclaimed in a panicked tone, "Go! We have to go." He whispered, as he began pulling the two teens back and away from the river that Theo was stood at.

"What?" Cassie asked, clearly confused.

"Why?" Liam asked as well, no understanding Stiles' sudden panic.

"Go! Right now. Just go." Stiles ordered them both, pushing them away from the sight. When they had eventually made it further away and out of hearing range from Theo, Stiles spoke up again, "That's the bridge where they found his sister." He informed them, now speaking rather than whispering as Theo couldn't hear them.

"What sister?" Liam asked.

"He has a sister?" Cassie asked, looking at her brother confusingly, she didn't know what was going on. One minute Stiles was set on following Theo, now they were both being dragged away from the guy when they finally found him, none of this made any sense.

Stiles nodded as they all kept walking forwards at a fast pace, "The one that got lost and died from exposure." He informed them, "He's leaving a flower for her." He suddenly felt very bad, as he couldn't imagine what he would feel like if he lost Cassie, especially if he was getting stalked in the woods.

"That doesn't sound evil." Liam muttered, now not knowing why they had been following Theo in the first place.

"I know." Stiles groaned.

"Are you sure you're right about him, that he's evil?" Cassie asked Stiles, as they stopped in front of a large tree, unknown to them, with Theo standing on top of it, out of sight.

Suddenly, Theo jumped down and stood up, "What are you guys doing?" Theo asked them all, with a smirk on his face as he looked at them all. Cassie kept her place besides her brother and boyfriend as he walked up to them, even if she didn't find anything wrong with the guy, she would always trust her brothers instinct if he didn't trust someone. Stiles may be an idiot, but he meant well..
As Theo walked even closer to them, Liam stepped forward in front of Cassie and Stiles slightly, growling at the potential threat in front of him. "Whoa." Theo said, holding his hands up in surrender, before he looked over to Cassie, the girl whom he hadn't seen in many years, "Well don't you look grown up, haven't seen you since you were this tall." He said, motioning that she was very little when he last saw her. This caused Liam to growl even more at the fact he was talking to Cassie, "Why do I get the feeling this kid's tougher than he looks?" Theo asked, almost laughing at Liam's actions..

"Only when we let him off his leash." Stiles told Theo, making sure to keep his hand on Liam's arm to calm him down and make sure he didn't attack Theo.

"Stiles, we were in Little League together. Why are you so suspicious of me?" Theo asked Stiles, not knowing where this hostility was coming from.

"Because of these." Stiles told him, pulling out the papers that he had shown Cassie earlier in the school library of the two signatures, "One's a speeding ticket signed by your dad eight years ago. The other one's a signature on a transfer form to Beacon High. They're different." He told Theo.

"Huh." Theo mumbled, looking over the papers, looking completely unbothered at them, "Yeah, they do look a little different." He said, tilting his head to the side in confusion.

"No, they're totally different." Stiles snapped at him, "Signed by two different people." He said.

"So my dad's not my dad? Like he's an imposter?" Theo asked, acting like this was the most stupid thing ever.

"Yeah, something like that." Stiles muttered.

Theo folded up the papers in his hands, finding this whole situation ridiculous, the fact that Stiles could think that he was an evil villain, or something, "Who do you think I am?" Theo asked.

"We don't know yet." Stiles told him truthfully.

"Want me to give you a DNA sample or something?" Theo joked, not expecting Stiles to actually want that.

"No, I don't have anything from the fourth grade to match it to." Stiles told him, crossing his arms over his chest and glaring at the boy in front of them. He would take a DNA sample if he could, that's how much he didn't trust this guy.

"You know, Stiles, I came back here for Scott, but I also came back for you." Theo said, "Someone like you. Someone who's willing to walk into the woods in the middle of the night to protect his friends. I don't have anyone like that, but Scott does. You all do. I know I'm in the right place. I'm meant to be here. I'm meant to be part of this pack." Theo told them all, looking confident with his answer.

Cassie sighed at Theo's words, looking towards Stiles with a tired facial expression on her face - she just wanted to go to bed and get out of these muddy and dark woods. She was done for the night..

As the three of them walked back to Stiles' jeep in complete silence, not knowing what to say to each other after the encounter with Theo, they had found Scott, waiting for them by his bike, obviously wanting to talk to Stiles. "Find anything?" Scott asked, as the three of them approached him.

Stiles had been in a bad mood since they had spoken with Theo, so all Cassie wanted to do, was go home and leave the two boys to their differences and sort through them. But, with Scott being here, she didn't think she could do that.
"Nope." Stiles said, immediately getting into his car in anger.

"I fell in a hole." Liam told Liam, with a slight smile.

"It was funny." Cassie said, smiling along with him, trying to defuse the situation, feeling an argument coming along.

When the two older boys ignored the young couple and Scott walked over to the car, Liam and Cassie both looked at each other anxiously. Why did Cassie always herself into these awkward situations?

"Are you going to come and meet Mason with me?" Liam asked her, as she shrugged at him. When she looked away from him and towards the distance, he sighed, "Are you still annoyed with me?" He asked.

"No." Cassie answered truthfully, crossing her arms over her chest. "I just think you should tell Mason the truth." She told her boyfriend, watching as his face fell.

"But what if he hates me after it?" He asked her, causing her to reach out and grab his hand, rubbing circles into it.

"He could never hate you." She spoke softly, lifting her hand up and placing it gently on his cheek. He smiled down at her, about to lean in, when they heard a bang from the car, causing them to instantly jump apart in fright.

They always got interrupted.
