𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐧; a lack of sleep
"dreamcatchers"
CASSIE WAS EXHAUSTED, SHE HAD barely been getting any sleep at night due to the nightmares that she had been having, the ones that would plague her mind with worry. On top of that all, she had been hearing strange voices in her head throughout the day of everyday - confusing her even further than before. The girl genuinely thought that she was going crazy, and she didn't even know what was wrong with her, wondering why this was all happening to her now.
Her worst fear had instantly switched back to her mother and how the woman had died, and everything that went on before that, what if she was going through the same thing as her? She couldn't even think about that right now, the thoughts terrified her..
Over the weekend, Liam had finally revealed to Mason what he was, showing him at the school late at night, creating Cassie to immediately let out the huge stress that she had been keeping in for the past few months; even better, Mason had taken it really well, he was even excited about the whole thing, probably more than she was when she had first found out about everything. Cassie hadn't spoken to Liam as much since they had gone out to the woods late at night with Stiles to follow Theo, she just didn't feel the same around him lately, not with him following Hayden around like a lost puppy; she didn't know what to do about it. It worried her that more was going on between the two of them, but at the same time, Hayden wouldn't do that to Ellie. Or would she?
During last night, while Cassie was suffering through her daily nightmares, a girl called Tracy, had killed her own father and injured two officers in one night, having attacked them in their police car, as they were driving a kid called Donavon to a different facility as he had broken the law.
Cassie had never liked that Donavon kid from school, especially since he had threatened her dad the previous night, she wasn't actually there, but Stiles described to her what had happened, and she hated the kid because of it.
Cassie wasn't allowed to help out with anything as her dad and brother didn't want her to 'get hurt'. She just wanted to be useful for once, by actually helping, but when Stiles and her dad stopped her, she felt completely useless, like there was no point in her even knowing about the supernatural..
Cassie and Ellie were currently walking alongside Hayden, into the school building, the morning after the situation with Tracy had occurred, all pushing aside the news so they could try to have a normal day. It seemed like everything was going down again, and they just wanted a causal day at school without the news going around. "So how's you and Liam?" Ellie asked Cassie, as they stopped at their lockers to get some books out. She hadn't heard much from her best friend lately, and she actually missed her a lot, even if it meant talking about her and Liam, she would do so, anything to get some conversation going. She missed her voice.
Cassie shrugged at Ellie, not exactly knowing what to say to the girl, "Alright." She eventually told the two of them, not really knowing what else to say. It's not like she could come out and say what she was thinking, as she wasn't allowed to tell anyone about what Liam was..
The truth was, the young couple haven't been able to have any time alone since there have been so many murders around lately, they haven't even been on a single date yet, since they started dating nearly a year ago. She hadn't even spoken to him since they went out to follow Theo that one night, she just didn't know what Liam and the pack were up to - she was being benched, just like she was six months ago. And she was fed up with it.
"I still can't believe you're dating that dweeb." Hayden commented, rolling her eyes. It wasn't a secret that she hated Liam, and she made it known to Ellie and Cassie almost everyday at school, and even through text. She couldn't understand how someone as nice as Cassie was with Liam, it didn't make any sense to her.
Ellie and Cassie gave each other a knowing look, as the two had been talking about the secret between Hayden and Liam for some time now, before they both looked back at Hayden, "I still can't believe you won't tell us about what happened in sixth grade." Cassie voiced out, giving Hayden a look which she frowned at. Although Liam was hiding something from her, Hayden was, too, meaning that she wasn't happy with the both of them. She just wanted to know what had them both so upset, then they could actually figure out a way to get past it all..
Hayden gave them both a matching look, annoyed that they were still prying for get the information out of her. "Look, all you need to know is that he's a bad person." She told them both, not expanding on the situation any longer.
Cassie furrowed her brows in confusion at the girls words, she knew that Liam wasn't a bad person, he was far from it, he was actually one of the most kindest people that she had ever met. She opened her mouth to reply and stand up for her boyfriend, but Hayden beat her to it. "I gotta get to class, I'll see you both later." Hayden told them both, walking away fast, avoiding the conversation in total, not wanting to bring it up again - she knew better, now.
Ellie and Cassie both looked at Hayden's fleeing figure with suspicious looks on their faces, "I'm gonna find out what went on in sixth grade." Cassie told Ellie in determination, before walking in the other direction without any other words spoken to her friends.
"Okay, well, see 'ya!" Ellie called in sarcasm, as she watched Cassie's fleeing figure with a scoff emitting from her mouth in complete annoyance, "Don't mind me." She mumbled to herself, before walking to class, alone.
Cassie, Liam, Mason and the rest of Scott's pack were all standing around Stiles jeep at the next lunch time during the day, with school busses around them all in the parking lot, giving them some privacy as they were all going over the situation with Tracy and what to do with her. Cassie was surprised that she was allowed to tag along and listen into their plan, but her guess is that Liam had been the one to pull her along, not taking no from the others as an answer.
"Tracy wasn't just having trouble sleeping." Lydia explained to everyone as they all circled around her, "It was a real disorder. It was night terrors." She said, knowing this from her mother.
"Well, now she's the night terror." Stiles commented, knowing just how dangerous this girl is now, "Especially since no one can find her." He then said.
Cassie stood with her arms across her chest, happy that she was finally involved in the packs business, but she couldn't help but feel like she related to Tracy slightly, as she was also having nightmares every night, sometimes she would even wake up with a cold sweat, and could at times, feel someone watching her. She was scared out of her mind, but even more scared to tell anyone - what if they treated her the same way they were treating Tracy? Like a crazy person?
"Okay, I know we're all tired and miserable." Scott told everyone as they all had tired expressions from staying up the whole night before, before he looked over at Mason, who seemed excited at the whole situation at hand, "Except for you." Scott told him, with a confused look on his face. How could this boy be so happy right now?
Once Mason realised that everyone was looking over at him in confusion, he spoke up. "Oh, I'm sorry. This is just all mind-blowing." He stated in a giddy tone. He then looked over at Kira with wide eyes, looking like complete amazement, "You're a kitsune, I don't even know what that is." He said, throwing his hands up.
Kira shrugged at him, "I'm still leaning." She sheepishly replied.
"Liam, we said you could tell him. Not invite him to the inner circle." Stiles told Liam when Mason had stopped talking and gawking at everyone around him, he sighed. Cassie gave her brother a look, not liking that he was being rude to Mason, he was just new to the whole thing, he should be given a break, after all, this is exciting, she remembered how cool she thought it was when she first found out about everything.
"Uh, I'm in the inner circle?" Mason asked Stiles, hope laced onto his words as he realised he was in with something important. He was involved..
"No." Stiles and Liam dead-panned, causing Mason to slouch in complete defeat, his confidence now down a whole level.
"Leave him alone, he's just adapting." Cassie told the two boys, narrowing her eyes at her brother and boyfriend, who shrinked back at her glare directed straight at them. The girl seemed to be a lot more cranky lately, and the last thing they wanted was to be on her bad side.
"Yeah." Mason defended, happy that his friend was backing him up, something that Liam wasn't even doing after lying to him for so long.
After Cassie spoke up, she noticed that the boy was still glancing around the group in complete awe, causing her to pinch the bridge of her nose in stress, "Not helping, Mase." She told him quietly, as he nodded and stepped back slightly besides the girl, knowing that he had to keep quiet and stop looking so amazed at the whole thing.
"Guys, look. Back to Tracy." Scott then spoke up, stopping any further conversation from happening that wasn't about the girl, "She's just one lone wolf. We can find her." He said.
"One lone serial-killing wolf." Malia responded, shrugging.
"Uh, she only killed one person, you know. The other two were mauled." Stiles commented, earning a look of disbelief from Mason, who was surprised at how casual they all spoke about murder and mauling. "What do we do when we catch her?" Stiles asked the group, not taking any notice to Mason who was standing with his mouth open in surprise.
"I say we put her down." Malia then stated, knowing that no one was going to go with it, but trying, none the less.
Everyone remained quiet at her words, glancing at one another, not really believing that they would be able to kill anyone in cold blood, no matter who they were.. "Intense." Mason spoke up, breaking the silence as he noticed the looks around the whole group. Cassie slightly elbowed him, making him yelp in surprise - he really needed to shut up if he wanted to be invited to the next meeting..
"Okay, let's concentrate on catching her first." Scott told everyone, "We'll figure out the rest later." He said.
Cassie walked into History in a daze later on in that day, not noticing the students around her, as her lack of sleep was finally catching up to her, she felt like she was in a dream herself, just drifting around like she wasn't even present. She took her seat at the back of the classroom and immediately pulled out her notebook to doodle in before the class started- she didn't want to speak to anyone near her, or even have anyone look at her, she felt very paranoid at the moment, and she had no idea why.
As Mr. Yukimura was writing on the board during the lesson, Cassie heard a scrape and a crack from next to her, like the sound of wood breaking in half. She furrowed her brows in confusion and looked to her right, only to see Tracy sat there. The girl that had murdered multiple police officers and her father in one night. How did she not notice her when she walked in? Was she that tired that she had missed an incredibly large detail? It was then, did she notice that Tracy's desk was snapped slightly in half, and Cassie could see from under the table that she had her claws out in the open - did Scott know that the girl was here? Was he going to come and do something?
"Hey, are you okay?" Hayden asked her from the other side of Tracy, making her presence known to Cassie, "Are you even supposed to be in this class?" She asked. Hayden looked up at Cassie with a confused look, who simply shrugged at her, she hoped Scott or Liam would show up soon, in case Tracy did anything. She didn't have the energy at this point to do anything.
As Tracy remained quiet, Cassie and Hayden's eyesight moved down to her feet, as they moved slightly, it showed the two girls that she had no shoes on and they were very dirty and had a slight amount of blood on them, she was surprised that Hayden hadn't noticed that.. Cassie jumped slightly when the fire alarm went off, sounding a lot louder as it went off, more loud than it usually did. She sighed in relief once she realised that it must be Scott on his way over here now to get Tracy out of here.
Cassie quickly gathered her things together as the classroom emptied; and the only people who remained in the room were Tracy, Hayden and Cassie, she noticed that Liam, Scott and Mr. Yukimura were standing by the end of the classroom, looking over nervously at Tracy and the two girls. "Come on, Hayden." Cassie encouraged, motioning towards the door, she didn't want the girl to get in the middle of this, after all, it was Ellie's girlfriend. She couldn't let her get hurt.
"Hey, we need to go." Hayden told Tracy, wanting to bring her with the two of them, as Cassie edged closer to Hayden to get her to move away from the girl. "Are you alright?" Hayden asked her, leaning closer into Tracy.
Suddenly, Cassie felt a hand grab her wrist tightly and it's hold tightened around her bones, making sure that she couldn't move away; she gasped in pain at the sudden movement. If she wasn't standing so close to Hayden, this wouldn't have happened, and she wouldn't even be near Tracy, if only Hayden listened and followed her..
Liam went to step forward, to help Cassie out, hating seeing his girlfriend in pain, only to have Scott hold him back, knowing that it would just make the situation worse. Even if him and Cassie were going through a rough patch, Liam would always protect her, no matter what.
Cassie looked up, only to see Hayden in the same position as her, with Tracy gripping onto her with her other hand. "Tracy." Scott warned, moving closer, very slowly, making sure not to alarm her. But when Tracy didn't reply, he spoke up again, "Tracy." All that was coming from Tracy, was heavy breathing, as it looked like she was seeing something that wasn't even there, something no one else could see. "Tracy." Scott repeated. "Tracy, let go. Tracy." He said.
"Scott, she's hurting me." Cassie told Scott, in a small whimper, just as Hayden let out another gasp at Tracy's tight hold that was just getting tighter every second. Scott immediately stepped forwards again at the sound of her pain stricken voice, not liking how his sister was getting hurt.
"Tracy, let them go." Scott told Tracy in a demanding voice, not wanting the girls to get hurt even more.
"They're coming." Tracy finally revealed, looking up at everyone in the room, "They're coming for all of us." She said, before letting go of the girls and collapsing onto the floor, with a pool of silver liquid pouring out of her mouth. Scott was quick to pick her up and rush her out of the room, followed by Hayden and Cassie, who were holding onto their bloody arms, and Liam, who eyed the girls in worry.
Once Cassie had landed in the eyesight of Stiles, he began to walk forward to see if she's okay and to comfort her, only for her to shake her head at him, "I'm fine." She told him, still holding onto her arm, as she motioned for him to leave and go with his friends. "Go." She said, giving him a tight smile.
Stiles looked hesitant at leaving his sister here, but eventually, he led Scott and Malia out of the school in order to get Tracy out of here quickly, so she couldn't hurt anyone else. "She wasn't even supposed to be in our class." Hayden voiced out, beside Cassie and Liam. When Hayden noticed that the others were taking Tracy out of the school, she gave Liam and Cassie a confused look, "Where are they taking her?" She asked.
"Uh... The hospital, I guess." Liam answered, shrugging.
He then turned to the girls beside him, "Do you two need help getting to the Nurse's Office?" He asked.
Cassie opened her mouth to reply to him, but got cut off by Hayden, "I think we'll make it." She told him, before dragging Cassie away with her, using her good arm.
Cassie gave Liam an apologetic look and mouthing that she was fine, as she let Hayden drag her away., still not understanding the relationship between the two of them and why they hated each other so much.
As they walked forwards, Cassie furrowed her brows in confusion, "This isn't the way to the nurses office." She told Hayden, as she got pulled into the girls toilets. "This definitely isn't the nurses office." She repeated.
"We don't need the nurses office." Hayden told her, "We'll just rinse our arms." When Cassie gave her a look, the girl looked pleading, "Please." She begged.
Cassie sighed and rolled her eyes at the girl, she knew that she wasn't going to heal, so she needed to go and get checked out by the nurse, she'll just have to go after Hayden was gone, for whatever reason, Hayden didn't want to go. She put her arm over the tap, feeling a sense of dejá vú from the hospital the year before, but once the water had gone over her cut, and rinsed the blood away. There was no cut.
She furrowed her brows and around the area, thinking that the blood was covering it up, only nothing appeared. She glanced over to Hayden, only to see the same thing happen to her friend.
They both looked up at each other with wide eyes, unsure what the hell is happening, or what to do.
Cassie immediately left the school after the incident in the toilets when her cut had healed by itself - she didn't have a clue what was going on with her and why she had healed in that way.. Only the supernatural can heal themselves, and she definitely wasn't that, so what was going on with her?
She had walked home, which wasn't as far as she thought, and she had returned home within a few minutes, which confused the girl, as it would usually take her much longer.
She instantly unlocked her front door and walked into her house, going upstairs to her room, she just needed to lie down and calm herself down; she was sure that her heart rate was going too fast to be completely humane. She let out a sigh of relief as she laid on top of her bed, feeling nothing but gratitude for the comfort that it gave her.
However, as she closed her eyes, an image flashed in the back of her mind, frightening her.. She could see three men in masks standing above her with surgical equipment ready at hand - and it was absolutely terrifying. To get rid of the image, she immediately sprung up, gasping for air that she was afraid she couldn't get, only, when she did, it was now dark out, implying that she had fallen asleep, which she didn't even recall.
Instantly getting up, she walked to her phone and unlocked it, thinking that the others must be panicking about her disappearance, only.. She had no messages, no missed calls, nothing..
Cassie walked downstairs and to her living room, expecting to find her dad on the table going over some cases, only he wasn't there either, which was most strange to her, as he would usually be home going through cases on the table with a beer.
Shaking her head to rid the thoughts, she moved onwards to the kitchen, only to stop in her tracks once she saw a large man - the man in her dreams, standing in front of her, the mask present on his face.
Without thinking twice, she spun around to make a run for it, only to be met with another one, looking like the same people.
"What do you want?!" Cassie quickly yelled in fear, backing up from the masked man.
He didn't reply, and the only sound Cassie could hear coming from him, was the loud breathing under his mask - it was purely terrifying. As she was about to scream for Stiles or her dad, or anyone, she was injected in her neck, silencing her for good...
Cassie sprung up from her desk with a loud gasp, lifting her head up so quickly that she nearly got whip lash, she had gained the attention of multiple students around her, as her face tinged red from embarrassment - she had fallen asleep in class. She placed a hand on her neck, where she had been 'injected' in her dream, but felt nothing.. So was it a dream?
She didn't know..
