#4
Doyin
That'll teach her.
I smile to myself as Esosa marches out of the class. I just love that moment where I get to put people back in their places and remind them where they belong on the chain. To make the moment even better, Eric had had my back. He settled down on my locker and smiled goofily, wiggling his eyebrows at me. I smiled back and placed my hand on his.
"It's finally just us." He said.
"It's technically just us." I said before taking a quick glance at Efe. She had her head on her locker and seemed so quiet that one would think she was sleeping. But I could see that she was using her phone, peeking up from time to time to make sure no teachers were around.
"Right." He said, scratching his stubble. "But at least it's mostly just us."
I laughed "Yeah."
Our eyes met and it was a nice and gentle moment. But I found myself wanting more. I wanted his hands all over me while we explored each other, while we really got to know each other. But Eric wasn't really fun like the other guys. He was sweet and respectful but he wasn't fun.
Suddenly, Efe jolted up and looked at me. Her eyes were filled with excitement and she was a little bit jumpy.
"Ah ahn..." I said as I observed her "What's up with you?"
"Chisom is in one of the SS3 classes upstairs. It's free, and senior Theresa brought her apple speakers to school." Efe explained before standing up.
"Damn." I said.
"Oh yeah." Efe said, slipping her phone into her purse. "Before I forget, senior George is there too. Chisom said that he's looking for you."
Right, my biology assignment.
"I have to go Eric." I said as I pulled out my chair. His face fell as I stood up.
"Why is senior George calling you?" He asked, observing me suspiciously
Ah ahn, when did this one start?
"He's with my biology note." I replied.
"What was he doing with your biology note?" Eric asked.
Ah ahn.
"Helping me out with my assignment." I snapped.
"Why couldn't you find someone else to do your assignment?"
"Are you being serious right now?!" I shouted. What manner of useless questions was he asking me?
"I'll wait for you outside, Doyin." Efe said before rushing out of the class. I was guessing she didn't want to be involved in the drama that was about to ensue.
I sighed, pushing my short base out of my face so I could see him clearly.
"What's your deal, Eric?"
"It's just always a different guy with you." Eric complained "Donny, George, Alex... And I know that you don't cheat on me with any of them—"
Yeah, about that...
"But it isn't fair, and it doesn't make any sense either." Eric said, "Put yourself in my shoes Doyin, how would you feel?"
"It's not as deep as you're making it Eric." I said, "I just have a lot of male friends."
"That doesn't answer my question." He deadpanned.
I shook my head before turning away from him "I'm not doing this with you right now."
"Well, you are!" He shouted before slamming a fist in the table. I heard the loud wham his hand made as it came into contact with the table but I didn't look back. I know it's not me that he's raising his voice at.
"Goddamn it, Doyin, why are you doing this to me?" He asked in frustration. I'd already reached the door. I didn't want to get into an argument with him right now, so I decided to just end it here. We'd talk later.
"You're doing this to yourself, Eric." I said curtly "Seriously, it's not that big a deal. We'll talk more when I get back."
And with that, I walked out of the class, away from the eyes of amebo students and into the corridor where Efe was waiting for me. She was leaning against the wall and blankly staring into space. I observed her quietly for a moment before tapping her shoulder.
"You good?" I asked. She blinked rapidly for a bit before focusing her attention on me.
"And suddenly you care about what's going on around you?" She snapped. My sharp glare brought her back to reality. She shook her head vigorously before looking back at me.
"Sorry," She said genuinely. "I got sucked into my thoughts."
I nodded briskly because I didn't have time for anymore drama.
"Are you ready to go?" I asked.
"Yeah." Efe said with a nod.
As we walked down the corridors, three junior students, all girls were staring at us. They turned to whisper to each other and you've got to admit, what they were doing was pretty obvious.
"Who are you talking about?" I snapped. They jumped at my voice, shocked that I had noticed them. Two of them had started squirming while the other one had shrunk back.
"Nothing senior Doyin." One of them said quietly "We're sorry."
"Better." I snapped "Now get to your classes, or do you want to sweep the very block you're walking on for a week."
The girls exchanged looks before they took off, scrambling in the direction of the staircase. I smirked as they did before my eyes landed on Makayla, who was walking towards the classroom. I hadn't honestly seen Makayla since after our painting and decoration class. It was like she just kept disappearing and reappearing again.
"Kaylaa!" Efe squealed. She stopped, and then turned back to see who was calling her. When she saw us, her face morphed into a smile, and she began to walk towards us.
"Hi guys." She said when she'd reached where we were. I observed her stoically and without returning her greeting.
"We're going to SS3A," I said "You're coming."
"No, I really need to..."
"That wasn't a question Kayla." I said before reaching out to grab her hand "Let's go."
Efe shrugged at her while Kayla just sighed. It was really important to assert and enforce my authority here. Juniours, rivals, even my friends needed to know who was boss. No one, and I mean absolutely no one was allowed to take advantage of me.
***
We got to the front door of SS3A and we could legit hear the music from where we were standing.
Prima donna girl, yeah
All I ever wanted was the world
I can't help that I need it all.
The Prima donna life, the rise and fall.
You say that I'm kinda difficult
But it's always someone else's fault
Got you wrapped around my finger, babe
You can count on me to misbehave.
"Oh my gosh!" Efe squealed. "They're playing Prima donna girl!"
I rolled my eyes as she rushed in ahead of us. Through the windows, I could see different students talking, dancing, even singing funnily enough. George caught my eye and waved at me and I smiled back. I took a glance around the block. It was devoid of teachers.
I noticed that Makayla was still hesitant. I gestured at the door with a smile. We're all gonna have some fun this afternoon. Absolutely no member of the it girls was going to be caught in 4k while the rest of us were having fun.
I opened the door and closed it behind me. A few of the students, mostly guys, hollered at me as I entered. I acknowledged their greetings with smiles and winks as I made my way through the class.
"Doyinnn." George shouted before he gave me a brief side hug "Finally! Let's go to my locker."
I looked around for Makayla and Efe but couldn't find them. I shrugged and assumed that they were having fun somewhere in the class. George opened his table and pulled out my biology note. I smiled gratefully at him.
"Thanks George." I said. "Now all that remains is to give this to Miss Alice before long break. I really hope she accepts it."
"Ah ahn," He said with a goofy grin "Of course she'll accept it. Am I not the one who wrote it?"
He laughed and I playfully punched his shoulder. This guy was lucky that his smarts and good looks made up for his lack of humour.
"So, I was wondering..."
"Adedoyinsola!" Donny yelled, interrupting him. He quickly shook hands with two seniors as he made his way to us.
"Nawa for you oh." I said as I shook my head "Do you have to show everyone here that you're a tout?"
"Happy to be a tout for you babe." He beamed. I rolled my eyes at him before remembering that George was right beside us.
"I'm really sorry Georgie." I said with a polite smile "Could you give us a minute."
"Yeah, sure." George said. His voice had this "I see where I stand now." tone to it but I ignored him as Donny dragged me away. Knowing George, he was still going to suck it up to me later.
"So," Donny smiled "Where were we?"
I was about to answer him when I noticed Eric walk into the classroom. I was horrified, and wanted to inform Donny when what happened next shocked me. Erife, a junior I thought at least new her place, jumped on him. He hugged her back and they began to talk. My jaw dropped in shock, as I observed the two get it on.
"Um, hello?" Donny said, waving his hand in my face "Earth to Doyin, I repeat, earth to..."
"Do you see what Eric is doing with that junior?" I said, still looking at them. Donny turned to see what I was talking about, confusion written all over his face.
"He's talking to that girl..." Donny said "What's her name again? Enife, Eniola..."
"Erife!" I snapped.
"Woahh," Donny said, putting his hands up "They're just talking. Though, he does seem to be a bit overly familiar, It's not like..."
"Overly familiar?" I asked as I continued to observe them. Eric raised a hand and pushed away some braids on her face.
"Okay, that's it." I said, I was about to march off in their direction when Donny grabbed my wrist.
"Let go of me!" I snapped.
"No." Donny said firmly "He's just talking to her. Talking, which is much more than you do to every guy you want something from."
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked him. I couldn't be the one he was talking to like that, but I was actually beginning to doubt myself because he looked exasperated. He looked like he had actually had enough.
"You use people, Doyin." Donny explained "Eric, George, me, we're all pawns in an elaborate scheme of yours that no one understands, not even your friends. If you go over there and confront him, what will you even say? He saw and has seen us together, even if he doesn't know what we're doing."
I stared at him for a few moments, dumbfounded. I knew what I was doing to these boys was "odd", but I didn't have a scheme of any sort. I was just trying to get what I wanted, the only way I knew how. Besides, it's not like a guy hasn't used me and dumped me before. But I did want to make one thing clear.
"I do like Eric." I admitted.
Donny's face scrunched up in a mix of confusion and anger "Then what the fuck are you doing with me? Why are we a secret?"
I observed Donny quietly for a moment and realized what his outburst was about. He wanted to be in Eric's shoes, he wanted to be the main thing. But he wasn't, and he couldn't be even if he wanted to be.
"I think it's time we ended this." I said gesturing between us.
"No!" Donny snapped "I want to be more than just some fancy fling Doyin. Why don't you see that?"
"Because it isn't what I want to see, Donny." I said. That really sounded better in my head.
"Now if you'll excuse me, I have a boyfriend I need to confront." I continued before walking away.
I couldn't see his face, but I could tell that he was glaring holes through my back.
"I hope you get what's coming to you." He said coldly.
What a dumbass, everyone says that.
I walked briskly towards Eric and Erife, they were standing right in front of the board, gisting like no one was watching them.
"Then she started twerking on him." Erife laughed "Right before Miss Helen walked in."
Eric guffawed loudly, doubling over. I had never seen him laugh that hard at any of my jokes. Erife noticed me and beamed, her little white teeth which I would soon knock out, were on full display.
"Hi senior Doyin" She sang "I haven't seen you in a while, how are you..."
"How would you see me in a while," I snapped "When you're too busy toasting my boyfriend?"
Eric just shook his head, like he wasn't even shocked. He looked like he had half expected this. Was he trying to make me jealous? Erife on the other hand, was shaking her head with so much vigour, that it just might fall off.
"We are not flirting oh, Jesus!" She exclaimed "I'm just talking to him about something that happened in my class."
"And he's reaching out to touch you like that?" I asked.
"Touching me like what, Doyin?" Eric asked incredulously "She's my school daughter."
"Zip it, I'm not talking to you." I snapped, without even sparing him a glance.
"It seems like someone wants to spend their long break, sweeping all the classes on my block."
"No nau, senior Doyin." Erife pleaded "I'm really sorry. I won't talk to him ever again, if that's what you want, I'm serious."
I smiled internally at her pleas. It was actually reassuring that the respect and fear were still in place, that was really good. But I still needed to teach her a lesson, or rubbish like this would bound to happen again.
"Don't worry," I sneered "By the time that I'm done with you, you'll know what it's like to be really sorry."
I could see the tears in her eyes as she took a few steps back before walking away, out of the class.
"I hope you gained something from that." Eric said.
"Yup," I said with a shrug "I've gained the whole world."
"What the fuck was that, Doyin?" Eric snapped, gesturing in Erife's direction.
"I should be asking you that question." I snapped back "She was obviously trying to disrespect me by talking with you."
"Not everything is about you, Doyin!" Eric shouted. A few heads turned in our direction, eager to see what was going on.
"Erife is a junior who's supposed to know her place in this school." I said.
"You don't even have a valid argument." Eric said, confusion written all over his face. "Why are we even having this argument? I've been watching you and Donny since all these days and haven't said anything."
"Because Donny is your guy!" I argued "And you trust him. I don't completely trust Erife, she could double cross me at any time."
Was I a phony? Yes. But he didn't have to know that, I could get what I wanted if I just stuck to my plan.
"I don't trust Donny." Eric said, calmly this time "And I don't trust you either."
"What the fuck is that supposed to mean?" I asked.
"I'm not stupid, Doyin." Eric said, looking me in the eye "I see the way you are with him, and I see you sneakily flirting with George when you think I'm not looking."
"There's nothing going on between..."
Eric put up his hand to interrupt me "I'm done Adedoyinsola. I don't think I want to hear any more excuses or lies from you. I'm done."
He walked away, leaving me speechless. I wanted to say something but I really just couldn't. I didn't want to believe that this was actually happening. He suddenly stopped, and my heart was filled with a glimmer of hope.
"And just so you know," Eric said without turning back "I wouldn't date a junior, a JS3 student for that matter. You should know better, but of course, you don't."
And with that, he walked out of the classroom and most likely, out of my life.
I could see my best friends making their way towards me. At least two of them anyway. Chisom and Makayla hurried towards me in spite of the stares and whispers being directed their way.
Kayla hugged me tightly, while Chisom stood to the side, a sympathetic smile on her face. She wasn't much of a hugger.
"Are you okay?" Kayla asked when she had pulled away from me.
"No..." I said, still in shock "I'm shocked."
Chisom reached out and patted my shoulder.
"We're here for you, you know?" She said "That can't have been easy to handle. Particularly because it happened in front of all these other people."
I glanced around a bit, trying to avoid the stares of the other students while I tried to look for Efe.
"Is Efe okay?" I asked the girls. They exchanged looks before looking away from me.
"What is it?" I demanded, "If it's about everyone who saw that little episode then dont worry, they dare not try anything."
"Nope." Chisom said carefully "It has nothing to do with that."
Kayla didn't even speak. She was still avoiding me, and looking at Chisom like she was going to save her from my wrath.
"Will one of you tell me what the fuck is going on with Efe then?" I asked, getting frustrated "All this suspense, ko necessary, I'll still find out whatever it is either way..."
"Look behind you, Doyin." Chisom sighed.
Her eyes were fixated on something going on at the back of me. I turned back carefully, already knowing this was going to be bad. My eyes widened in shock but not total surprise, as I observed what was going on.
Efe was talking to Donny. But that wasn't even my problem, it was normal for her to talk to him because we were all friends. The big issue was that she was sitting in his lap and giggling like a fucking hyena.
"Fucking, betraying bitch!" I snapped.
I had noticed a little bit of weird behavior from Efe. The way she'd snapped at me earlier, how she hadn't said anything when Donny had held her waist. But I didn't know that she would stoop this low. I was losing my grip on these girls, it was time to pull out the big guns.
"Let's be honest, Doyin." Chisom said "We all saw this coming from a mile away."
I nodded quietly, looking chisom in the eye, so that she would know I was dead serious.
"Do you still have that video?" I asked her, eerily calm. Makayla gasped, while Chisom smacked my shoulder.
"It's not that deep Doyin." She hissed "Let it go. You didn't even like Donny all that much. If you release that video, you'll ruin her life."
I rolled my eyes at her "I'm not just going to release it, that'd be dumb. I'm going to give it to the school authorities."
"Doyin stop!" Kayla said pleadingly "You're going too far."
"But I wasn't talking to you." I snapped. She looked away, and went quiet. It was nice to know that I still had control over one person.
"Teacher, Teacher!" A student suddenly screamed. I didn't take it seriously at first because there were false alarms like this all the time. But upon further observation, I noticed that it was in fact George who sounded the alarm.
"I guess that's our cue to leave." I said.
"What about Efe?" Makayla asked. I could hear the panic in her voice.
"Relax, she'll be fine." I said dismissively "Even if she gets caught, she's Efe. She can lie her way out of any situation."
We rushed out of the class through the back door and kept on walking down the corridor. A few students were behind us, walking at various speeds but I didn't have the nerve to turn back.
"Doyinsola!" A male voice suddenly called. I jumped because it was definitely a teacher, and for some reason he had singled me out.
Chisom searched my face, asking with her eyes if I wanted her to stay with me.
"Absolutely not." I whispered. "You and Kayla should hurry back to class."
I slipped my biology note into Kayla's hand before turning back. All the students looked at me and back at the teacher, eager for gist as I walked in the opposite direction.
"Walk faster!" The teacher snapped. The voice sounded familiar. A familiarity that sent chills down my spine.
"Doyin, ah ahn." He greeted as I made my way towards him. I froze in my steps, when I saw him, completely horrified. It was like my past had taken a human form and come back to haunt me.
Mr. Chibuzor stood there with a creepy smile, his happiness spreading from ear to ear. If only his future were as bright as his smile. Alas, wishes aren't horses and not all beggars will ride.
"I'm on my way to a class sir." I said quickly. His gaze flew down and landed on my boobs. He didn't even try to hide his interest.
"What were you doing in that classroom?" He asked. I gulped nervously, but still maintained eye contact. I wasn't going to let him see my fear.
"I wanted to collect something from a senior." I explained.
"Mhm." He said, unconvinced "Did you know that bringing in contraband is against the school rules?"
"I didn't bring any in..."
"But you aided and abetted the crime." Mr. Chibuzor said with a sinister smile "I wonder what the school principal will think when I tell him."
"What do you want?" I snapped. I wouldn't usually let people blackmail me, not even teachers. But this is a man who has quite a lot of history with me, and knows quite a lot as well.
"Meet me in my office at closing time." Mr. Chibuzor said "Let's pick up from where we left off at your old school."
I shuddered before, finally by passing him and walking away. Even if he knew a lot about me, I also knew quite a lot about him.
"We'll see about that." I said quietly "Don't forget, it takes two to tango."
Maybe he had enough on me to blackmail me, but I wasn't that desperate little junior anymore. If he wanted a fight, I would give him one. Welcome to Emerald high, Mr. Chibuzor.
