Chapter 3

Ambros was walking down the corridor, doors were aligned at both sides, and the wall lamp was lit every time he passes by, illuminating the path in front of him.

Soon his steps halted as if sensing something amiss, he turned towards the door on his left, just like the rest, it has a name carved on it, he then proceed to open it.

The scene in front of him made him pause a bit, the bed was crumpled to no end, and a child was curled up on the carpeted floor and appears to be in severe pain, he whiffed a faint smell of blood in the air.

When he came back to his senses, he hurriedly went towards him, he then stretched out his arms and took the initiative to embrace the other's trembling body.

They remained in the same position for a long while, he waited until his quivering stopped before inquiring. "Since when?"

The child didn't directly answer him and instead said. "I finally found it."

He raised his head and continued. "The blue thread."

Ambros naturally knew what he meant by that.

The next day, when the hour hand pointed at 6 o'clock in the morning, Geno was walking down towards Cale's chamber to wake him up.

"Young master–" he stopped in his tracks as he noticed Cale was already standing in front of the bookshelf.

Cale's brow was wrinkled as he stared in a daze, as though waiting for something.

"Will you be visiting Master Ambros?" Geno asked, pulling him out of his thoughts.

"Ah...Yes." he answered absently, Geno raised his brow, and gently closed the door behind him.

Noticing his troubled face, Geno frowned and asked. "Is it related to the children?"

Hearing this, the other three shifted their attention towards them.

Cale sighed in his heart, knowing fully that he can't actually fool them, he answered truthfully. "It's Gaiki."

"Is he in trouble?"

"What happened to Hyung?"

On and Hong questioned at the same time, looking at him.

Cale lowered his head and saw the two were circling his feet, he then explained in a calm manner but there was a visible seriousness in his eyes.

"Don't worry, nothing happened... He just did something he wasn't supposed to do."

They didn't have time to ponder more over his words when Cale spoke once again. "It's time."

Raon flew towards him while Geno stepped back and respectfully bowed.

Soon enough the familiar smoke enveloped their body and by the time Geno looked up, he was already alone in the room.

In the blink of an eye, what greeted them was a dazzling light, the sky was still clear blue and cloudless.

They all stood on dark brown solid wooden floors, and if one looked around they would realize they were on a ship that is likened to the ones that pirates use.

Although this one remained unmoving just like the stagnant ocean.

Ambros approached them, locking eyes with Cale.

Cale raised his brow and then nodded in acknowledgment.

Ambros was still wearing the same clothing since yesterday, but he now wore a pair of glasses on the bridge of his high nose.

He must have stayed up all night.

They didn't have time to speak when they hear rapid footsteps, they looked towards the commotion and saw a group of children hastily making their way towards them.

"You are finally here!" The twins exclaimed in delight as they both try to get ahead of other.

The two sported the same short sapphire blue hair and gray almond eyes, even the same facial features, the only difference was their gender.

Upon reaching him, the girl pulled out her tongue in a teasing manner while the other only scoffed in annoyance.

Cale chuckles at their antics and turned at the other children.

A girl with azure eyes was hugging On and Hong that were still in their cat forms, muttering "I missed the two of you."

"We missed you too. Nya" Hong said while On nodded his head in agreement.

"Ahem." Raon cleared his throat, reminding them of his presence.

Alitheia laugh and said, "Of course, I certainly missed the great and mighty Raon Miru."

She then opened her arms wider, indicating for him to join in.

Raon perked at the compliment, he then cleared his throat, in an attempt to hide his flustered face. Raon approached them, looking as if he was forced, though his face says otherwise.

Cale watched in silence as the children that were now happily playing, wrapped in their world, far from the children that have been enduring for many years.

"Cale-nim." a girl with hair that resembles the ocean and gray eyes that shows so much maturity despite her age, called out.

Cale looked behind him and saw a girl with teal eyes, she looked only around eleven to thirteen years old.

She was the oldest among the children. Her hair was combed into a tight bun, and in her arms lies a one-year-old boy.

"Are you going to see Gaiki?" she whispered to him, not wanting the other younger ones to hear her.

She then added. "I heard you, talking with master Ambos in the communication device last night... May I know what happened?"

Cale didn't reply and instead moved his hands towards her forehead, flicking it.

"Ouch! What was that for?" Anamniseis exclaimed as she moved her left hand to rub the spot that Cale flicked as the other was still holding the child.

"Since when did you learn how to eavesdrop?" Cale asked, folding his arms.

"I wasn't!" She retorted and quickly reasoned out. "I just accidentally heard it when I was passing by master Ambros' chamber." She emphasized the word “accidentally” heavily.

"Besides it's not entirely my fault, anyone could easily eavesdrop on your conversation last night, even if they don't want to."

Cale clicked his tongue as he gave her a sharp look, though he showed no signs of actually being angry. When he was about to scold her more, a laugh that was coming from the girl's arms stopped him.

The boy laughed as he extended his hands towards him, indicating Cale to carry him.

Cale's gaze fell towards him, the child has brown hue eyes and hair, reminding him of a certain person in the past.

A woman clad in a fine silk long gown, embroidered with golden thread and a golden crown on her head, bent down before him.

She sighed as she wrapped her arms around him tightly, comforting him as she whispered.

"Remember Cale, your mother only did it to protect all of us, so stop blaming yourself for what had happened."

His heart was erratic, it was the first time someone comforted him, telling him that it wasn't his fault, when he was used to others telling him otherwise.

Hearing that he felt the weight drastically fall off his shoulder.

But as if the world is mocking him, just when he found solace with her he also felt the same pain when he lost his mother.

When the very person who told him to live, dies a few days after.

Cale sighed as he brushed his hand against the boy's cheek before moving it under his armpits, lifting him.

"Missed me?" Cale asked as his eyes softens, the boy giggled in return, as though he understood.

"I missed you too," Cale said, pinching the boy's cheek between his two fingers, he then smiled before continuing "Chance."

Anamniseis rolled her eyes and said. "You haven't answered my question yet, he did something wrong, didn't he?"

"I knew it–"

"I'm just going to ask him something." Cale said, cutting her off as he gently handed her the child.

He then added. "A child shouldn't pry too much."

She frowned in displeasure at the word 'child'.

Ambos observed their interaction from the side, he then shook his head and silently commented; you are barely an adult.

He coughed twice, gaining their attention, he then said. "Let's get inside, I've already prepared the food, I'm sure you all must be starving."

He gestured his hands to go inside, his nails that were now painted with glitters sparkled as his hands moved.

"Food!" The twins shouted in unison, they run towards the cabin with their hands held high. Alitheia walked behind them while On, Hong and Raon followed them closely, worried that they might trip.

"Go now, I'll follow you later." Cale spoke and slightly pushed her.

"But–"

"They would eat together with us, after their talk, I believe that should be done shortly." Ambos said.

Anamniseis pursed her lips in displeasure and wanted to argue with them but she decided not to, knowing she can't actually win against them.

"Fine," She replied tartly, she then turned her back on them, walking straight towards the cabin, Ambos sighed softly before following her inside.

When they are already out of his sight, only then did Cale move his feet, he walked to the door, and opened it.

However, instead of seeing the inside of a cabin, a long corridor welcomed him, with countless silver doors on both sides.

Cale shoved his hands into his pockets before entering, as he walked he started his counting;

1,2,3...

After a solid minute, he suddenly stopped, he then turned the knob of the door on his right and without a second thought, he entered it.

Another corridor can be seen and a new set of doors.

However this time, they are different names engraved on each one, and even the features of the doors were unique.

Cale didn't stop walking until he reached a particular door,  unconsciously reading the word that was carved on it; Gaiki.

Gaiki heard the door opening, but made no sign of moving, he shuts his eyes, in the hopes of avoiding him, as he was guilty of doing something that Cale specifically told them not to do.

But even if given a chance to turn back the time he would probably still do it.

While Cale observed him in return,  knowing fully that he was only pretending to be asleep.

He then approached him and sat at the edge of the bed and asked. "Aren't you going to tell me something?"

He tilted his head back and added. "Still not speaking?"

Gaiki felt wronged, he bit his lips."I didn't do anything wrong... Besides, why are still asking me, didn't he already tell you?"

Gaiki shifted his gaze towards his feet as he waited.

"He did." Cale answered.

Hearing that, Gaiki slowly sat up, wrapping the blankets around him.

His golden blonde hair and blue eyes came into view.

Gaiki's power is quite complicated. It was similar to a cupid, the thread of fate, the ability to see and influence them.

But not only between soulmates or between two people, instead, but also between a person and his fate too.

Red, Blue, Black, and White... Those four are the thread or strings of fate.

However, they symbolize not only one.

For instance, the Red string is the symbol of Love but also danger.

White is the symbol of peace, purity, freedom, and also void.

Blue is the connection between two beings, may it be a friend or a foe, the person who gave you birth, or the reason for your death.

And lastly is the symbol of death, the Black thread.

With the exception of Black, the others are quite hard to identify, thus Gaiki uses his sense of smell to distinguish them.

Cale forbids them to use their powers, because of the consequence it brings.

That's what Gaiki couldn't comprehend at first.

Although he never questions them, it's like asking a bird not to fly and depriving a fish to swim.

Adding to the fact that he was aware Cale has been using his power and so is Ambros, but nothing seems to happen to either of them.

If they are allowed to use theirs, why can't he?

So when he happen to see the blue thread connected to one of the Gods, he just couldn't let the chance slip through his fingers.

It was only until recently, that he found out the gravity of it.

He could still remember how he felt at that time.

He was in so much pain that he could only fall to the ground and let out a painful grunt.

As though his insides were forcedly twisted and torn apart, he could hardly even breathe.

It hurts so much that he couldn't help but wish for a quick death.

As he thought of that he slowly turned towards Cale, his gaze softening as he silently wondered.

Is this the kind of pain that Cale typically goes through?
