-Chapter 65

My thoughts were interrupted when I heard soft cries coming from the hallway. I walked to the kitchen door and glanced out. At the top of the stairs stood Arabella, clinging onto her snuggie as tears rolled down her cheeks. "Dad!' She pushed her hands through the rails of the baby gate, waiting for me to come and get her.

I suddenly felt terrible, my little tantrum had obviously woken her up and startled her. Pushing my own feelings back, I walked up the stairs and lifted her up over the gate, carrying her to the kitchen. "Morning love." I kissed the top of her head, cuddling her for a few seconds before placing her down on her feet.

"Breakfast?" I questioned and I turned around, finally pouring myself the cup of tea I had intended to make a while ago. Once it was poured I quickly closed the cupboard door so I didn't have to see Mason's bottles anymore.

I turned around to see her bending down to pick something up. It was the bottle I had thrown. She held her snuggie under one armpit and toddled over to me, clutching the bottle in two hands as though it was precious. She dropped her snuggie along the way but continued to toddle until she was at my feet.

"May's bo-bo." She said, holding it up to me.

"Yeah it is." I quietly responded as I took the cracked bottle out of her hands and placed it on the countertop. I picked her up and carried her to the table, setting her in her boaster seat. I pushed the chair into the table and proceeded to go get her breakfast.

"Where's May?" She questioned, shrugging her shoulders and looking around.

"He's gone home to his mammy." I informed her as I chopped up a banana, putting it in her bowl. I placed it in front of her as she stared rather solemnly at the table before peering up at me.

"I miss 'im." She said, which left a pang in my heart. "My br'der." She pouted as she looked up at me, blue eyes appearing much larger now, almost puppy dog like if you will.  I sighed softly and leaned down, kissing the top of your head.

"Eat your breakfast up." I whispered, turning around and wiping under my eyes where a tear was threatening to roll down my cheek.

I ran a hand through my hair and tried to remain calm. Arabella now thinks she has a brother, when indeed she doesn't. This is what I didn't want from the beginning, this is why I waited so long for her to meet him. Because how do you explain to a two year old that the world is just shitty and people lie sometimes?  How do you tell a two year old, the brother she thought she had, was never really her brother?

How do you tell a two year old the world is just a fucked up place with fucked up people who just enjoy fucking you over?

Jenny's POV

I tentatively walked up to Andrew's desk, my eyes widening when I saw he was indeed at work. I though he wouldn't have come in today, considering the scenes that unraveled last night. I hadn't seen or spoken to him since we found out he was the father.

"Hey Andrew." I said, standing above his desk. His head was bowed and in his hands. He lifted it and peered up at me, lethargic eyes staring back at me. It looked as though he hadn't slept a wink last night. Although, can you blame him?

"Don't even speak to me." He sighed, shaking his head before bowing it again.

"Hey. if you need to go home and get some rest, don't hesitate. I'll get someone to cover for you. I know you must be in shock and all but-"

"No, I'm not in shock. I had my presumptions. I just thought when you got the paternity results that I was wrong, that I was lucky and yeah, I guess not." He sighed, running a hand through his hair.

"Why didn't you say anything to me before? You tell me everything." I looked down at him, feeling a little offended he couldn't confide in me to tell me this.

"If you slept with Laura, would you tell me?" He raised an eyebrow at me.

"Well, I mean, I wouldn't be so stupid to do it like you." I grumbled which earned a glower form Andrew. "But no, I probably wouldn't." I shrugged my shoulders.

"Yeah, I wanted to die the following morning. I didn't want to think about it ever again, never mind tell someone about it. Guess I have to look at the reminder of that night from now on though." He sighed deeply.

"Hey, Mason is cute." I told him. "I know I was upset when Niall first got her pregnant but honestly, I grew a little attached to the little man. He was a pleasure and he made Niall so so happy. I feel really bad for Niall, he was so attached to him." I sighed at the thought of how much he is hurting right now.

"I know. I can't even begin to imagine how he feels. Thinking a baby was yours when it wasn't? he was obviously going to grow attached with how long Laura dragged it out. And had you not found out from Joanna about those documents, how long do you think she really would have dragged it out?"

"God only knows." I sighed. "I have no idea what was going through her head. That woman needs help." I shook my head distastefully.

"Agreed." Andrew nodded before rubbing at his eyes.

"If you can, I would go for full custody." I glanced over at him.

"What?" His face dropped a little. "Jenny, slow down, I only found out he was my son last night. At least let me meet him properly and hold him before I try to get full custody of him."

"Sorry, just keep the thought in mind." I shrugged and smiled softly. "Do you really want him to be stuck with Laura as a mother? God knows what that demented woman would have him turn out like."

"That's mean. You don't know what kind of mother she's going to be."

"Well, I do know that anyone capable of what she's done, is not right in the head."

...

As I sat in my desk after finishing some paperwork, a though struck me. I was still paying Laura for maternity leave and that quickly had to change. Picking up my phone I text her and asked her if she could come in for a talk. Half an hour later, she was standing in front of me in the office, holding Mason.

"Maybe leave him out with Andrew." I said, giving her a look. She sighed deeply but left the room. Watching through the glass I could see the two of them yelling at each other before Andrew begrudgingly took the baby from her hands. I smiled softly as I saw the small smile that ignited his features as he looked down upon his son. It was small, barely noticeable, but it was there.

Suddenly, I felt a pang in my heart because only four weeks ago, I watched Niall react the exact same way, to the same baby.

"What do you want then?" She questioned as she walked into the room and took a seat.

"I want you to pack up the things in your office because you're not coming back." I informed her, making her face drop.

"This is unfair dismissal, you can't do this to me!"

"No, it's not. I just have to make some cutbacks, starting with workers and I thought I would get rid of the ones who condone doing illegal things first. You know, lying to someone that a baby is theirs when it isn't." My voice raised a little towards the end.

"This is unfair dismissal and I will take it further."

"Actually, no it's not. I think you're slacking in your work and are incapable. Just getting rid of the useless things." I smiled sweetly.

"You can't fire a pregnant woman, it's illegal."

"Honey, you're not pregnant." I reminded her.

"Well, it will look back on you because you're firing someone on maternity leave."

"Go take me up on it, try sue me or do whatever you think you can do. I honestly don't care at this point in time. You won't win anyway, I'll find a way to prove you were incapable of doing your job."

"You know what, I don't even want to work here anymore anyway." She snapped  as she stood up.

"Good because nobody else wants you here either." I scoffed.

"You're a bitch."

"At least I'm not a demented bitch." I retorted as I sat back in my seat, folding my arms and smirking at her.

"Whatever." She picked up her bag.

"Hey," I called as she put her hand on the door, prepared to push it. "Don't ever mess with my man again, unless you know what's good for you." I glared at her.

"Is that a threat?"

"Well, you messed with him and look where that got you, jobless." I pointed out.

"I don't want that stupid fucking job anyway. I was only here for the money."

"And bet you were only with Niall for the money too. Did you think you'd get more child support out of him then you're gonna get out of Andrew?" I raised my eyebrows at her.

"Oh, go get fucked." She snapped. "You're stooping pretty low Jenny, threatening me."

"And you stooped lower, lying to someone about their child. That's illegal, you know." I reminded her with a smug smile. She just shook her head and left the room quickly without another word. I sat back and smiled softly to myself, knowing we had the better of her.

...

When I arrived home I frowned as I entered the living room. There were toys scattered all over the room. To say it looked like a bomb hit it, would be an understatement. I couldn't see Niall and Bella though. On closer inspection, I noticed the hut that was made behind the couch, using the back of the couch and some chairs from the dining room. I chuckled and walked over, crouching down and peering inside where I found the two giggling.

"What's going on in here?" I raised an eyebrow as Arabella attempted to hide herself under some of the multitude of blankets that were on top of the copious pillows. They must have gotten every pillow and cushion we had in the house.

"Hut mammy." She giggled, popping her head up from under the pillows, her hair standing in all directions.

"I see, who's idea was this?"

"Daddy's." She giggled and climbed on top of his chest, wrapping her arms around his neck while he smiled fondly.

"Are they the same pyjama's she had on last night? Did you even dress her today?" I questioned, chuckling quietly.

"Yes." Niall giggled. "We decided a pyjama day was more important that nursery so we had a super fun day playing all day, didn't we?" He asked her, ticking her sides gently which made her screech.

"Looks like you had a fun day." I smiled fondly as I watched them.

"No telling mammy what we had for dinner." Niall whispered in her ear while looking at me, a small smile latching onto the side of his lip.

"Cake!" She exclaimed before falling onto her back and giggling.

"Well, she's not going to bed any time soon." I said, kicking off my shoes and crawling into the hut.

"Who cares? The fact is we had a great day." He smiled, pulling her closer to him. She rested her head on his chest.

"You're right." I smiled, leaning down and kissing him gently. When I pulled back his hand moved tote back of my neck, pressing our lips together for a few seconds longer.

"I juts kinda miss Mason." I heard him grumble quietly under his breath, more so to himself than to me. I saw him looking down a little sadly. I knew he was probably only doing this with Arabella today to distract himself from how he feels about Mason. Surround himself with the little ball of joy he already has and loves to help him forget about the one he thought was his. It broke my heart to realise this.
