-Chapter 21
When I woke up in the middle of the night Niall had returned anyways, he was awake feeding Arabella. "Hi babe." He smiled, his eyes heavy in his head as he held Arabella's bottle.
"Was she crying?" I questioned to which he nodded.
"Yeah, I guess you were tired but it's fine. You need your sleep, I'm fine with being up with her." Niall assured me and yawned, puling the bottle away from her mouth and moving her to burp her. I smiled softly and lay down again, feeling slightly guilty for leaving him to do all the work but I didn't ask him to.
"Thanks." I smiled and lay down to go back to sleep because extremely exhausted.
"Get your sleep." Niall ran a hand through my hair and then leaned down, planting a delicate kiss on my forehead. I smiled as I closed my eyes slowly, not even thinking to question where he was or what he was doing because, well, he was being sweet and caring.
"Love you." I snuggled into his side, kissing the side of his chest gently.
"Love you too." He whispered back.
Niall's POV
I paced the kitchen with Arabella as I attempted to keep her calm and also make sure I didn't burn the pancakes that were on the pan. I was pretty exhausted, considering I only returned home at two in the morning and then was awake with Arabella for a while, before up with her for the day at a quarter to six.
I wanted to let Jenny sleep, I know she had Arabella all evening yesterday and she needs to catch up on some sleep.
Arabella is ruthless and she definitely makes sure you know she is in the room. She will not stop crying, I don't even know how she finds the chance to breathe. She may be small but her lung capacity certainly isn't.
I feel like we made a One Direction fan. Those girls can fairly scream, she follows the fandom I guess.
"Right, Bella, can you please stop crying, daddy is trying to make mammy her favourite breakfast because she's tired after giving birth to you. D'ya think you could stop crying for five minutes so we could get these pancakes done?" I asked. No, of course no was the answer, she was not going to stop crying.
I went to the living room and dragged her basinet in from there, placing her in that and quickly putting the pancakes on the plate before going back to pick her up when she began crying harder.
"Hey, hey, I had to put you down because I couldn't risk burning ya." I sigh and pat her back then, assuming she might of had wind, which she indeed had and once she had it up she thankfully stopped crying.
"That wasn't too hard was it? Am I getting better at this?" I asked her, looking down at her as she put her fingers in her mouth then. I smiled softly and carried her upstairs to our room to wake Jenny up.
"Morning darling." I smile, leaning Arabella down so she was face to face with Jenny. "Arabella wanted to say good morning." I smiled to which Jenny whined and rolled over but I could see she was smiling. "We made you breakfast." I said all proudly before holding Arabella tight against my chest again.
"Okay I'll be down in a while." Jenny mumbled to which I smiled and went downstairs again, sitting at the table and smiling down at Arabella because well, I was holding my daughter and I honestly feel so happy, yet scared at the same time.
Jenny's POV
"Niall, where were you last night?" I asked Niall while he rocked Arabella in one arm and used the other to eat breakfast.
"Why?" He furrowed his eyebrows.
"Cause I asked you a question, can you not tell me where you were last night? It wasn't work, was it?" I raised my eyebrows.
"It was work." He retorted.
"Yeah? For what, you didn't have a show last night." I folded my arms.
"Oh my God Jenny, do I have to tell you everything?!" He yelled, moving and putting Arabella in her basinet.
"Niall, calm, you don't have to defend yourself. I was just asking what you were doing away, on our daughter's first proper night at home." I sighed while he rolled his eyes.
"You don't have to be so nosy all the goddamn time." He snapped which made me sigh. Is he seriously looking for a fight? I honestly have not got the energy right about now.
"I'm not being nosy Niall, all I wanted to know was where my husband was last night." I ran hand through my hair and exhaled deeply.
"I was at a meeting, God." He rolled his eyes. "What's the big deal anyways?" He asked, throwing his hands in the air.
"The big deal is that it was so difficult for you to tell me." I yelled just as Arabella began to cry and the two of us looked at each other. I gave Niall a worried glance while he just glared angrily at me.
"Aren't you going to go calm her or something?" Niall furrowed his eyebrows at me as though I was doing something wrong, when indeed our baby was just crying for one of us.
"I had her all day yesterday maybe her daddy should take her." I yelled at him before leaving the room and slamming the door. I didn't even give Niall a second glance but I knew he was shocked at my outburst, just due to the fact he didn't give a smart comeback.
...
When I had managed to calm myself down I went back to the living room which was silent, meaning Niall had managed to calm Arabella. I walked in and Niall's back was facing me as he stood rocking Arabella gently.
I reached out and touched his shoulder which made him jump and turn around to face me. "Jesus, don't scare me like that." He gasped and my face fell a little when it was evident he had been crying. I knew his eyes after he cried, I knew how they puffed and appeared a bright blue than they usually appear to be. I know him all too well.
"It's not Jesus, it's Jenny." I attempted to make him smile, which I succeeded.
"Shut up." He rolled his eyes, probably smiling more due to the fact I wasn't mad at him anymore, rather than because I made a joke.
"Niall, why were you crying?" I asked him, making him shift uncomfortably and then put Arabella down into her basinet.
"I wasn't." He mumbled quickly. "I need to go." He said and went to leave the room again but I grasped his forearm, his attempts to leave unavailing when I held a tight grip on him.
"Where are you going now?" I almost yelled, but tried to stay quiet because I didn't want to wake the baby after Niall had gotten her to sleep.
"Jenny, please don't start again." He pleadingly looked at me, looking as though he was about to cry.
"No, tell me where you're going now or I swear to fucking God Niall." I balled my fists. It was an empty threat and we both knew it. I wasn't going to do anything, it's not like I was going to break up with him now after having our baby, it's not like I was going to kick him out - of his own house - It's not like I was going to beat him up or anything.
"You'll what." He walked nearer to me so he was looking down at me.
"Niall, please, just tell me for Gods sake. Why are you keeping secrets?" I asked.
"I'm not keeping secrets." He yelled, tugging on his roots. "I just I-" He stammered and shook his head then. "Doesn't matter." He mumbled.
"You just what?" I asked, putting my hand on my hip and glaring at him. "Niall, what's going on?"
"Jenny, it doesn't matter just forget it!" He exclaimed, running a hand through his hair, looking at me with watering eyes.
"Are you leaving me with her all day today again?" I asked, raising my eyebrows at him.
"I'll be back in a few hours." He sighed, looking away from me and quickly leaving the room before I could say anything more really. I exhaled deeply and sat down, gently popping Arabella's pacifier into her mouth when it fell out and then playing with her hair gently.
"Where's your daddy gone." I sighed.
*A few days later*
"Jenny, I'm going out again and don't wait up for me, I have my show tonight so I'll be late home." Niall told me as I dried Arabella after taking her out of the bath. I frowned and looked at the time, it was only two in the day, where on earth is he going now?
I sighed and just let him go, not wanting to start a fight now just because I didn't have the energy, the two of us up early with Arabella.
I took care of her all day, feeling rather lonely because he had stayed in for a few nights with me, I thought his disappearing was over, but I guess I was wrong.
When he came home I was in bed and even though it was one in the morning I was still awake just because I was so anxious. I mean, what is Niall doing and why can't he tell me?
When I heard the front door open and shut and Niall's footsteps, I breathed a sigh of relief because well, he was home.
"Hi baby." He said getting into bed and wrapping his arms around me. I pushed him off a little and looked up at him.
"Niall, can you please tell me where you've been going because it's really worrying me." I sighed deeply as I watched his face fall in the dim light.
"Jenny, please." He ran a hand over his face. "I don't want a fight."
"Niall, please tell me, you know you can trust me with anything, right?" I asked, holding my hand out to him but he didn't take it. "Please, what's wrong?"
"What's wrong is you're just annoying me like for Gods sake can you not just leave me alone?" Niall asked, raising his eyebrows at me.
"This isn't going to work Niall if you're going to be keeping secrets like this from me." I told him. "We have a daughter now, can you not at least put some effort into this?"
"What do you mean?! I'm the one who takes care of her at night so you have your sleep. So what? i go away for a few hours every few days, what's the big deal?" He questioned.
"The big deal is you can't tell me the truth as to where you're going." I retorted.
"Oh my God, can you not just drop this and please leave me alone?"
"I'm only trying to be a supportive wife!" I exclaimed to which he rolled his eyes. "Why are you rolling your eyes now Horan?"
"You're not being supportive." He snapped, folding his arms and looking away from me. My mouth opened and shut a few times but nothing came out, I was quite stupefied by what he had said.
"Niall, how could you? After all I do?" I asked, just more hurt now rather than anything.
"All you do is complain." He scoffed but then looked as though he regretted what he had seen. Indeed he should have.
"You absolute bastard." I growled and sat up in bed. "You fucking bastard." I threw the covers at him and stood up. "I wasn't complaining that time you basically cost me my whole reputation." I yelled and then saw Niall's face drop. "You're the reason my business is doing so shit!" I balled my fists but then immediately regretted what I had said when I realised indeed what it was I had uttered. I was too angry to care though, and it's not like I could take it back.
"What.." He trailed off. "I cost you your business' reputation?" He furrowed his eyebrows, obviously puzzled.
"Yes." I folded my arms and glowered at him.
