CHAPTER 1

Living on your own in a city isn't so bad. Right. I turned around, hoping to see someone standing in the doorway. No one was there. Dang it. I thought. I'm alone.

I've spent my life running from bullies and running away from danger. but after I ran that day, I knew that I drew the last card and It was time to play. Sometimes people walk past my apartment, every time I see them. I hope that one has come to find me.

It's been Six years, no one has come, the day that I ran there was a fire. That's all I remember. I don't know who was in the fire, or where the fire was. The only things I remember from that time was fire and the words the soft voice spoke. Run, Cole run.

I walked past all of the people sitting on their apartment balconies enjoying the sun, I was heading out to look for food that someone had left somewhere. I was alone, poor and living in an abandoned apartment that looked like the last person that lived there had no idea what clean meant at all.

It has been six years and I finally have the apartment looking decent. I don't think that the people in Oblivion really care if I live in the apartment. Or they don't know.

I walked down the street towards the town center. Slowly realizing that over the years people were looking at me more I mean being one of the only people in this town with blonde hair.

I walked towards the town center thinking about what people would have left out, usually the people here just left out pudding (my favorite of what people leave) other times it's just leftover lettuce or tomatoes that they take out of their burgers.

I looked around the corner of the alleyway which led me to a black fountain, this whole city is black all black, at night all of the hints of grey or other color glowed, a soft radiant purple color. It was amazing. That's one of the reasons some people sleep in the dark day and stay awake during the bright night.

I walked towards the fountain to sit down and scope out the place.

Then I felt a burning hot Hand touch my shoulder.

I looked back but no one was there, my shoulder started to hurt so I dipped my fingers into the fountain, the fountain's water slowly started to boil. people were gathering around the fountain in a chos.

I looked at my shoulder. I was wearing a grey tank top but when I looked at my shoulder there was no tank top where it was burning there was just a hand print shape that was surrounded by the burnt shirt.

The fountain was still increasing in temperature and was starting to steem.

Looking at the condition of the shirt I don't know how my skin still looks normal. I started to place my hand down onto my shoulder when I had a whisper very close to my ear.

It wasn't the voice that was in the fire it was older, more shriveled.

Cole the voice sad creepy Hello.

"What" I said out loud "who are you"

There was know answer.

Then everything stopped.

Everything seemed normal like nothing happened, I mean besides all of the people standing around the fountain confused. They were probably thinking I was a little possessed, maybe a little more than a little.

Everyone started to head back to what they were doing acting like this was normal

Was it normal? Did they all feel the fire? How could they not? Could they not?

I stood up and started looking around for food, because keeping a low statis is hard when you stand out, and getting a job is even harder.

I walked past the black food stands, black benches, black haired people, people were even selling black slushies. I walked over to an empty bench and sat down while scoping the place. I saw a leftover French fry next to the garbage, so I ate it.

I was at the bench when I heard the voice again.

Cole, I know you herd me

I looked around but still saw know one, maybe it's all in my head, maybe I'm dreaming, maybe-

Cole!!! I know who you are and where you came from.

I looked around still looking like an idiot, to everyone else, I mean was a blonde haired boy sitting on a bench talking to the air. Yup, I still look like an idiot.

I listened but it seemed like it was gone, then in the distance I saw a small fire erupt in the distance.

I looked around at the people looking at the fire, I'm not hallucinating.

People were running away from the building.

I looked at the building. And in my head I heard a voice run. I looked around "no" I said out loud "not this time" I started by walking and contemplating the idea of what I was about to do. Then I sped up. I wasn't even trying.

I started to go even faster and faster. Till I couldn't even see where I was going when I was, two inches away from a flame, I backed up fast.

What I just ran three blocks in three seconds, what was happening. just then the fire vanished the walls changed to a white and I was in a room,

There was a woman wearing a white shirt and pants talking to a man "the war is still growing and getting bigger", she looked at a picture of a girl in white with a big happy smile hugging a girl in black who was faking a smile and boy you could tell. She looked back at the man "it's the only way to keep him safe, she sighed and grabbed a journal. I don't know what we can do" she looked at a picture of two little girls, one in a white dress and one in a black dress. "But I know one thing, this is my city and she won't take it away" she said while pointing at the girl in the little black dress.

I flashed back to the fire. I looked around and saw a little boy on the second floor of the building. I sprinted like the flash from the little comic books that I read when I was young. I ran. I was still in shock as I ran up the stairs when I got to the top there she was.

The girl from the picture. And the little boy, the boy was hiding behind a box. There was fire engulfing the building but none in this room the women looked vaguely familiar but I couldn't put a finger on it. She took a step towards me and as she did, I slid my foot back with hesitation.

The room was getting hotter but the fire was getting weaker. I could see a vague orange glowing fragment of anger in her eye. You could feel her anger shooting out of her dark skin. I didn't know who she was or why she was trapping me

Then I realized there is a little boy behind her, I needed to get past her. I walked up to her most likely too confident to look confident but, she backed away. I was a little shocked to see that.

I took a few more steps forward and well she kinda dissolved into fire and disappeared from reality. I wasn't sure if she was gone but I avoided where she was standing. I could feel the building shaking and getting weaker, I moved a little faster towards the child hiding under the desk, but I noticed as I walked by the spot where the woman was standing.

I saw a black feather she wore black but she had no feathers on so it must have been there before. As I threw the boy over my shoulder they seemed surprisingly heavy for their visual size, as I ran/walked out of the building hoping it wouldn't fall.

I stepped out of the stair shaft and turned to look at the front door when the boy leaped out of my arms ran across the building and out the door I took a step after them because they were most likely injured.

Then a loud crack echoed across the burning building and as I looked up I saw three floors of a building come down.
