Chapter 9
READER'S POV
After we got to school things were going well for a while. Sure Mammon was trying to be his own boss but, I made sure who was the boss of him. As I mentioned before, I managed to keep Mammon on a tight leash and I also had him running some earrands for me wether he liked it or not. Right now, I was in the classroom and I heard two demons gossiping nearby.
"Did you hear the news? Apparently that human forged a pact with Mammon."
"Seriously? I don't get it. Why forge a pact with an ordinary human?"
I shurgged it off because I didn't mind their gossip.
"Huh. Whenever you make an important annoucement, the demons here couldn't care less. But rumours...they really do spread like wildfire," A man with greenish hair and who I assume acts like a butler spoke up.
"Just when I thought the uproar about the new exchange student from the human world had started to subside some, now they're all freaking out about this."
"Come now, don't say that, Barbatos. Actually, I'd say that all this gossip is a good thing. It means that everyone will be watching this human, which makes it hard for any demon to go after (Y/n)'s soul when no one is looking."
'Well, that's a happy relief,' I thought to myself before Lucifer spoke up.
"Yes. Since mammon's not doing a very good job as a guardian. I told him he was to look after (Y/n), but he's off somewhere shriking his responsibilities. Though I figured this would happen."
"I must say, I can't believe you managed to forge a pact with Mammon, (Y/n). That's no small feat. And what's more, you did it in such a short time," Diavolo spoke with a smile.
"Thank you, Lord Diavolo."
"I suppose it stands as proof that you chose well bringing this human here, Lord Diavolo."
"I'm sorry, who're you?" I asked the Greenish haired man.
"...Ah yes, pardon me. I suppose we haven't met before, have we? My name is Barbatos. I apologise for not introducing myself sooner. I have the honour of serving as steward to Lord Diavolo. Please to make your acquaintance," Barbatos greeted me in a polite tone as we shook hands.
"It's nice to meet you too."
"Barbatos here is a smart and talented individual, so much so that I wish I could trade a certain idiot brother of mine for him instead," Lucifer told me and I don't blame him for wanting to swap Mammon with Barbatos.
"Well, as for your brother, in the human world, it is sometimes said that a truly wise man does not flaunt his talents. He keeps them secret."
"Yes, but then again, an incompetent fool doesn't actually have any talents to begin with," Lucifer spoke to Barbatos.
"Well, I've heard it said that the most thick-headed child is always the cuetest," Diavolo spoke with a smile making me snicker.
"Stop it, Diavolo. It's troublesome enough having him as my younger brother. But my child? Him? I don't even want to think about it..."
And that's an image that I do not want to picture either, ugh!
"Ah, but I notice that you didn't deny the part about him being cute, did you?" A dark brown haired man wearing white clothing spoke up.
"If I might offer my own opinon, out of you seven brothers, you're without a doubt the most troublesome, Lucifer."
"Is that meant to be a compliment, Simeon?" Lucifer asked him.
"Pfft, of course not! Duh! That was a put-down! An insult! He's tanting you!" A little boy...? with blonde hair shouted.
"Ah, I see you've brought your chihuahua along with you."
"Chihuahua?" I mumbled before the little blonde hair boy shouted at him.
"I am NOT a chihuahua! How many times do I have to tell you that, demon?!"
'Wow, for a pipsqueak, he's brave to stand up to Lucifer,' I thought to myself before Lucifer spoke up.
"Well, what did you expect? I am a demon, after all. Now then, stop yipping at me. C'mere boy...shake! Who's a good boy?"
I covered my mouth to stop myself from laughing when Lucifer started treating him like a dog.
"Quit it! Don't make fun of me! And don't tell me to shake! I'm not a dog! And you, human! don't laugh at me!"
"*ahem*... sorry," I told him while calming myself down.
"Allow me to introduce you, (Y/n). This is Simeon. He's an exchange student from the Celestial Realm. Which is to say, he's an angel."
"Well, hello, (Y/n). I've heard a lot of rumours!" Simeon greeted me before kissing the back my hand, making me blush in the process.
"And this is Luke. Let's see, you're...a chihuahua, was it? Or are you an angel?" Diavolo asked him.
"Wh...! Diavolo, now YOU'RE getting in on the act, too?! I am NOT a chihuahua! I'm an angel!" Luke told him before turning his attention to me.
"Listen up! As you can probably tell, I'm a low-ranking angel. BUT I'll have you know that in the Celestial Realm I report directly to Michael the Archangel, as-"
"Luke, calm down. You need to learn not to make such a huge fuss about everything," Simeon interrupts him.
"But Simeon...!"
"He's right. That's exactly why people call you a chihuahua, you know?" Lucifer told Luke with a smirk.
"Usually the one who calls me a chihuahua is YOU, Lucifer!" Luke shouted at him.
"It's nearly time for the first bell to sound," Barbatos announced after being silent this whole time.
"Yes, you're right. I apologise for any trouble we've caused, (Y/n)," Simeon spoke to me.
"Oh no, it's fine," I spoke with a smile.
'Besides, Luke's yipping almost reminded me of Jamie.'
I thought to myself before Diavolo spoke up.
"In any event, I'm relieved to see that things seem to be going well for you here," Diavolo spoke with a smile.
"(Y/n), look after Mammon for me, would you?" Lucifer asked me.
"I will try my best," I told Lucifer.
"As I remember it, Mammon was supposed to be the one looking after (Y/n), correct?" Barbatos asked Lucifer.
"Yes, that's how I remember it as well. Your point?"
Lucifer asked as he and Diavolo walked off, along with Barbatos and Simeon which left me and Luke in the room. Luke stared at me for a few moments before I heard him mumble.
"Never trust...mmrmhrm..."
"Sorry, what did you say?" I asked him as I leaned down to his height.
"Hey! Don't lean down toward me like an adult listening to a child! You don't need to come down to my level! I'm not a kid!"
"Sorry," I told him as I stood up properly.
"Never trust a demon. Especially when that demon is Lucifer."
"What? why?" I asked him.
"Listen to me. He's a monster and a brute. He's uncivilized, immoral, and...and also..."
"And also a sadist?"
"Yes, exactly! He's the most sadisitc of sadists! I was against this from the beginning. What are they thinking, bringin humans to the Devildom as exchange students..." Luke mumbled before the bell rang.
"So, you've been warned. You get what I'm saying, right? Okay."
I nodded my head before he left the classroom.
TIME SKIP...
Later on that night, I couldn't stop thinking about what Luke said to me and he was right, I shouldn't trust a demon but, the ones I met back in the human world were friendly to me and they trust me. So, why is it any different with these guys?
"*Sighs* I can't sleep..." I grumbled as I laid on my side.
"...el...elp..."
I sat up from the bed after I heard that voice.
"Help...someone help me..."
I got out of bed and I quietly opened the door to see if anyone was still around but thankfully all was quiet. I followed the voice until I came to a spiral staircase.
"Help...over here!"
I was about to head up the stairs until someone called out.
"(Y/n)."
I jumped in fright when Lucifer spoke up.
"Lucifer! you scared me!" I told him while holding my hand over my heart.
"Stop right there. You'll go no farther...that's not a place for humans. It's dangerous. Go back to your room."
I wanted to tell him no but, I don't want him to get angry me and after seeing what he did to Mammon a few times I don't want to take the risk.
"All right, sorry."
"That's the answer I was looking for. Let us hope you actually mean it."
Lucifer told me as he escorted me back to my room. I took one last glance at Lucifer before heading into my room. Luke's warning still appeared in my head and I wondered if he was right. Should I keep my guard up and refuse their trust or should I keep them down so that I can help the ones that need help?
Speaking of which, why was Lucifer at that spiral staircase? is he hiding something or what?
