Chapter 49
READER'S POV
After Lucifer recieved Levi's phone call and how he didn't answer back, we all got worried so we headed back to the house only to discover that Levi has gone missing. Satan, Raven and I went in search for him but we couldn't find him anywhere.
"Well Raven? any luck?" I asked as he paced back and forth with his nose to the ground to sniff him out.
"Nothing, I can't smell his scent," Raven told me.
"Oh brother, come on, let's get back to Lucifer and Satan," I told him before he leapt into my shoulder.
We met up with Satan and we got back to Levi's room and he asked us.
"Did you find Levi?"
"No. He wasn't anywhere (Y/n), Raven and I looked, at least," Satan explained to him.
"Raven tried to sniff him out but..." I trailed off before Raven finished my sentence.
"No luck, it's like he's vanished."
"Are you certain that it was Levi that called you earlier?" Satan asked Lucifer.
"Yes, it was definitely him. The call was from his D.D.D., and I heard him scream just before we got cut off. It was his voice, I'm sure of it," Lucifer told us.
"But after searching the rest of the house and coming back, we found his D.D.D. laying on the ground, while Levi himself was nowhere to be seen... Hmm..." Satan folded his arms and closed his eyes in thought.
"10 Grim says he's going to do that whole detective thing again," Raven whispered in my ear which made me snicker.
A moment later, Mammon came into Levi's room and he said to us, "Hey, we took a look around the house...no Levi anywhere."
"Ah...I take it he hasn't come back here to his room yet?" Asmo asked.
"...Hmm. Then where is he..." Satan mumbled.
"He probably decided to out somewhere. Seems plausible," Lucifer spoke up.
"Yeah. I bet he went out to some store to wait in line all night for whatever new game or DVD is coming out tomorrow. That's gotta be it, right?" Mammon asked.
"Ooh, yeah, he would do something like that! When Lucifer said he heard him scream before the call got cut off, I thought maybe something had happened to him, you know? Ugh, I got worried over nothing..."
"Hold on, if he did went out somewhere then why would he leave his D.D.D. behind?" I asked out loud.
"Eh, he probably just forgot about it," Mammon spoke up.
"Well, I guess that settles it! Looks like we can call off the search," Asmo spoke with a smile.
"...Actually, wait a minute. What about Beel? Where did he go?" Lucifer asked.
"...Uh, wha?"
"Now that you mention it, I haven't seen him or heard that stomach of his growling since we got back," Raven spoke up.
***
After realising that Beel's vanished as well, we got back to our search for not only Levi but also Beel. We were outside and Asmo was complaining.
"Ugh, I've had just enough of this! In case you weren't aware, staying up late is the bane of healthy skin!"
"Fine, go to sleep. The rest of us will stay up looking for Levi and Beel," Satan spoke with a frown.
"Wait, no. I didn't say I wouldn't keep looking for them," Asmo told him.
I shook my head at him before I looked at Raven as he sniffed the ground.
"Raven, any luck?" I asked him.
"Nothing, I can't smell him, which is weird. I would've smelt food on him as well," Raven spoke up before Lucifer said to us.
"I don't know about Levi, but Beel at least has to be somewhere inside the house. We'll split up and search for him. Satan and (Y/n), you're with me."
"Hey, whoa! What's up with that?! If we're splittin' up, then it should be Lucifer, Satan and Asmo in one group, and me and (Y/n) in the other."
Raven growled loudly before he shfited into his human form and whacked Mammon on the head.
Bonk!
"Ouch! what was that for mutt?!"
"Like hell I'd leave you alone with her!" Raven shouted angrily which made me laugh.
"Nicely done, Raven. Come on, moron, let's go," Asmo told him before he grabbed mammon and dragged him back into the house.
"Hey...whoa...hey! Asmo, you bastard! Don't drag me by the scruff of my neck! I ain't a cat...AAAH!"
Raven chuckled and then Satan spoke up, "We should get moving, too. Something's not right here."
"I agree with Satan. We've been searching the house for a while now and I haven't been able to sniff out Beel or Levi. Which is weird, usually I would be able to pick up their scents straight away," Raven spoke up.
"What are you saying, Raven?" I asked him.
"I'm saying, someone or something is preventing me from sniffing them out. Like someone has used some sort of barrier or something," Raven mumbled that last part before we headed back inside to search for the others.
Once we got back inside the house, we looked around some more but, so far nothing and Lucifer's been quiet for a while since we continued with our search.
"...Lucifer, what's going through your head?" Satan asked.
"I was thinking...about the stories they used to tell about the House of Lamentation," Lucifer spoke up.
"What a coincidence...so was I," Satan spoke up.
"Huh? stories? what stories?" I asked them.
"I have to say, they're pretty interesting. If you're curious to hear about them, I'm happy to oblige," Lucifer spoke with a smirk.
"It was long ago, back before this place was even called the House of Lamentation. This house was built on the outskirts of a village in the human world. At the time, a married couple and their seven children lived here, along with one servant. At first glance, they appeared to be a happy, well-off family that enjoyed living out in the country. However, one day everything changed..."
"What happened?" I asked.
"The oldest son came running into the village constable's office looking very pale. Then he delievered a horrifying piece of news: 'Our servent...he murdered everyone in my family and then took his own life!' So, the constable's men went back to the house with him. Once inside, they were greeted by a ghastly sight. Every person in the family has been murdered, each in a different way and in a different location. And the servent, well...he was found in his room, hanging from a rope around his neck."
I gulped and brushed my fingers near my neck as I imagined finding such a horrible sight.
"The constable concluded that, for whatever reason, the servant must have plotted to kill his masters and then take his own life and since the perpetrator was now dead, they decided that the case was closed. However, sometime later, several facts came to light that gave rise to new doubts. First, the only person who wasn't killed - the oldest son- had been on extremely bad terms with his siblings. And he had purchased a gun just like the one used in the murders shortly before they occurred. Also, the postman witnessed the servant and the oldest son arguing prior to the killings...which led people to think that maybe the oldest son was the true killer."
"I don't like where this is going..." Raven mumbled.
"Perhaps the servant had tried to stop him, but ended up being killed as well in the process and then, the oldest son was strung him up by his neck to make it look like he committed suicide."
"Classic fake murderer story," I spoke up before Lucifer continued.
"In the end, the truth never came to light. For several years afterwards, the oldest son lived in the house by himself, until he eventually died of old age. Even after he died, unsettling rumours about the house continued to swirl. It was supposed to be vacant and yet people claimed to have seen several figures moving about inside at night. They said they could hear the voices of people arguing and screaming. So, at some point, the house was given a name. 'The House of Lamentation', they called it."
"Wow, that's terrifying..." I spoke up.
"Hehehehe," Satan chuckled.
"What are you laughing at?" I asked with a frown.
"Oh, sorry. I was just thinking that as fearless as you seem to be, even you get scared sometimes. You live amongst some of the most infamous demons in the Devildom, have a familiar of your own and yet it's the thought of some random ghosts that scares you...heheh."
"Shut up, Satan. Who said I was terrified of ghosts?" I asked with a frown.
"Although, saying that, my friends and I remember that you saw-hmpf?!" Raven's sentence was cut off when I quickly covered his mouth.
"Shh! shut up!" I whisper shouted.
"Saw what?" Lucifer asked.
"Uh, nothing! Raven was just being an idiot! Don't pay any attention to what he's saying!" I chuckled nervously after saying that and uncovering his mouth.
"Anyway, I know this isn't the best time for me to ask this, but...(Y/n), would you agree to a pact with me?"
My eyes widen in shock when he asked this because the last time when he asked me because the last time this happened, he literally snapped at me.
"I don't see why you're so surprised. Lucifer, just so we're clear, I'm not doing this out of some desire to make you angry. It's not about that," Satan told Lucifer.
Lucifer stood there in silence for a moment before he spoke up, "I know, that much I can tell just from the look on your face."
"(Y/n), a lot has happened these last days, and..." Satan trailed off and I could see a small hint of blush on his cheeks before he looked at Lucifer.
"I can't do this with you standing right there, Lucifer. Give us, a little privacy, okay? I don't want you hearing this."
Lucifer's eyes widen and then he chuckled at Satan's reaction.
"Haha, (Y/n)...It's not often that I see Satan in a state like this. ...Actually, I don't think I've ever seen him like this!"
"Lucifer!" Satan shouted while Raven and I laughed.
"All right, all right...I'll repsect your wishes, Satan. I'll be over here if you need me," Lucifer smirked.
"...Thanks," Satan mumbled before he looked at Raven.
"I get the message," Raven spoke up before he disappeared into the shadows.
"...Um, where was I...? A lot has happened these past few days, and after everything we went through, I made a decision."
"What decision?" I asked him.
"I decided that I won't let who Lucifer is and what he does bother me anymore. You heard what Grisella said: you have to accept the hand fate deals you not matter what. What maters is how you handle it. I can't go back and change the circumstances of my birth. But, how I choose to live my own life has nothing to do with Lucifer."
My eyes widen a little when he said this because when we first met, he couldn't stand being in the same room as Lucifer until now.
"It's funny. When I say it like that, it all sounds so simple. The entire reason I was able to face my issues is because of you, (Y/n). You're the one who helped me to be honest with Lucifer...and with myself as well. You want to make a pact with me, don't you?"
"Um...yes I do."
"Well, it just so happens that I don't like owing people favours. So if this ends up helping you like you helped me, then I'd like to make a pact with you. Okay?"
"Thank you!" I smiled at him.
"Haha, come on, no need to get that excited. All right, time for me to go ahead and take the oath. I am Satan, Avatar of Wrath. I pledge myself to you, (Y/n)...that we may be bound by an unbreakable pact. This I swear to you on both my name as well as the very blood that runs through my veins."
I smiled as I made another pact with a demon in the bag.
"I don't know why, but suddenly I feel a little embarrassed..."
"Don't worry..." I heard Raven's voice from my shadow and then he poked his head out. "Your secret is safe with me."
"...How long have you been here?!" Satan shouted with a red face.
"Long enough to hear everything you said. Haha, Mammon is gonna crack up when I tell him," Raven chuckled.
"Why you?!" Satan shouted angrily before he tried to grab Raven but he hides back into my shadow.
"Hey! that's cheating!" Satan shouted angrily before we heard screaming.
"D'AAAAH!"
"EEEEEEEK!"
"What was that?" Lucifer asked after he came back to us.
"Sounded like Mammon and Asmo to me," Satan spoke up.
"Those screams came from the portrait room. Come on, let's go," Lucifer told us before we got to the portrait room.
"Doesn't look like anyone's in here..."
"But it was definitely them we heard just now, wasn't it?" Lucifer asked as we looked around.
"Yeah, no doubt about it," Satan agreed.
"Let's head upstairs. I'll take the lead."
"(Y/n), Raven, you two follow behind Lucifer. I'll bring up the rear," Satan told us before Raven came out of my shadow and he turned into his human form.
"You got it."
We walked up the stairs and we could tell something felt...off.
"Something's not right," Satan spoke up as we looked around.
"Indeed."
"You're right about that," Raven grumbled before he wrapped his arm around my waist. "I can feel my fur standing on end."
"First Levi, then Beel, and now Mammon and Asmo have vanished, too. Could they be hiding somewhere, or could it be that...?"
"Could it be what? Satan?" I called out before turning around to see that he's also gone too.
"Satan?! where'd you go!" I shouted while Raven sniffed the air.
"Are you kidding me?! how the hell did he disappear?!"
"What's going on? Satan was right behind you two, wasn't he?"
"He was, but now he's gone too."
"I guess that only leaves the three of us..." Lucifer mumbled.
