Chapter 47

READER'S POV

After Grisella's murder, we were in our cabin until we got to the next station but then, we heard a voice talking to us.

"I don't believe this...Here I am in the company of three demons, all of whose names I know, and yet...what a truly miserable twist of fate."

"Okay, NOW what's goin' on?" Mammon asked we looked around the cabin to find out who was talking to us.

"...Hold on. I know that voice..." Lucifer spoke with a surprised look.

"Grisella...is that you?" Satan asked.

"Actually, Grisella is dead. This would be her spirit."

"...Yes. Unfortuantely, it seems you're right," Grisella spoke in a sad tone.

"It seems you're right? Like...you're a witch! You're supposed to be able to see the future and know when you're gonna die. Didn't ya even bother to check?" Mammon asked.

"I knew that I would die at some point during my trip on this train, yes. But I didn't know how I would die...only that I would. When it's time to die, it's time to die. There's no changing that. There's no cheating death. I accept my fate...However, I'd at least like to know why I was killed before I rest," Grisella explained to us.

"And you're telling us this because...?" Lucifer trailed off.

"Because I know why you came here."

"Ah, I see."

"Wha?" Mammon asked with a confused look.

"We're going to figure out who it was that killed Grisella," Lucifer smirked.

"What? That sounds like a bunch of work! Why do we gotta do somethin' like that?!" Mammon asked with a confused expression.

"Duh, isn't it obvious? We're doing it because we want to lift the curse," I pointed at Satan and Lucifer for Mammon's explanation.

"Exactly. You understand perfectly," Lucifer smiled.

"Mammon, have you forgotten why we came to the human world in the first place?" Satan asked with a frown.

"Oh yeah, right. It was to lift the curse that caused you two to switch bodies. I just remembered."

I face palmed at this moron while Raven sighed in annoyance when he said this.

"So, in exchange for findin' the person that killed her, she's gonna lift your curse...come to think of it, the killer's gotta be one of the other three people that were in the room with her during the seance, right? I mean, it couldn't be anyone else."

"Exactly," Grisella agreed with Mammon.

"The first of the three is named Noah. He's someone I'm well-acquainted with. He hoped to become my apprentice. And he was also the person who introduced me to the people requesting today's seance. As for the other two...I'd never met them before now. Their names are Lucas and Sophia, and they're siblings. It was they who requested the seance. They were hoping to speak with the spirit of their dead younger sister," Grisella explained to us.

"So then, I guess we only need to torture each of them sepearately until we find our answer," Satan suggested.

"Yes, that shouldn't take long at all. Okay then! So, which of those humans should we torture first?"

'Oh boy, I better think of a less violent way of solving this mystery...' I thought to myself before I spoke to Grisella.

"Um, Miss Grisella?"

"...Well, what do we have here? You're human, aren't you?" She asked me.

"I...guess so?" I answered before glacing over at Raven.

"So, there's something you'd like to ask me?"

"Do you remember being stabbed?" I asked her.

"Yes, I should think so! I remember the pain I felt as the knife entered...it felt like it was thrust from below. It burned like fire...I'll never, ever forget that feeling. But that's all I remember. I don't know who did it," Grisella told me.

I turned to Mammon and asked him, "Mammon, what did you see when you first entered the room?"

"Uhh... At first I thought it was pitch black in there. But then I looked harder and I saw there was actually a candle burnin' on a table in the middle of the room. Grisella was the person closest to the door I came through. That's why everyone ended up blamin' me for it. Behinid her were the two guys...and the girl was sittin' farthest away. Oh yeah, and one of the guys was wearin' this crazy-lokkin' shirt. It was super flashy and super lame," Mammon explained what he saw to us.

"Ah, that would be Noah. He likes to be unique and make a statement," Grisella told us.

"Yeah. Well, he stayed sittin' there in his chair the whole time. Maybe he was so freaked out about you bein' stabbed that he couldn't even manage to stand? Heheheh."

I had a little think about both Grisella's and Mammon's events and I started to put it all together.

"Guys, I've figured out who the killer is," I spoke up.

"You have?" Satan asked with a surprised look.

"Are you serious?" Lucifer asked with a surprised look.

"Well, all right then! Let's go find this person and get to torturnin'!" Mammon spoke with a grin before I grabbed the back of his collar.

"Hold it! we're not doing whatever you demons do to humans, we're doing this human way. In other words, my way."

"Wha...the human way?!" Mammon asked with a surprised look.

"...All right then. Agreed, we'll do it your way," Lucifer agreed. "Okay. So, what do we do first, (Y/n)?"

After I told the others my little plan, we got back to the cart where Noah, Sophia and Lucas are staying during their travels.

"Satan and Mammon, you two get Noah. I'll get the two siblings and bring them here," Lucifer told the others.

"Got it," Satan responded.

"Yeah, yeah..."

The three of them head off to get the three people who were in the room with Grisella, leaving me and Raven alone.

"Some trip this is turning out to be, ain't it?" Raven asked.

"Hehe, I know. I feel like I'm on the Orient express," I spoke with a smile.

Raven chuckled while shaking his head before Grisella spoke up.

"You there. (Y/n), was it?"

"Yeah that's right."

"I have to say, I'm surprised. I never expected Lucifer of all demons to listen to a human, but that's what he did. He clearly trusts you, doesn't he?"

"I have that effect on some demons," I spoke with a smile before petting Raven's head which made his tail pop out and it started wagging.

"I can see that but, know this; nothing lasts forever. Sometime in the near future, Lucifer will lose every last ounce of trust he puts in you now."

"What?" I asked with a surprised look. "That won't happen. Lucifer will always trust me."

"Whether you believe me or not is up to you. I'm simply telling you the future that I see for you. Do be careful."

I frowned when she told me this because I would never betray Lucifer. Unless...she knows what I'm doing behind his back.

"Hey Grisella...?"

"Yes?"

"Do you...do you know what I am?"

"I don't understand my dear?"

"*sighs* Do you know the reason why I'm able to see and befriend demons like Raven?" I asked her.

"I'm afraid I don't, my dear. But not to worry, you will find answers soon," Gisrella told me.

After our conversation, Raven and I caught up with the others, Lucas, Nah and Sophia were still in their cabins and they didn't look impressed when we told them that we've figured out who the killer is.

"Hey, is what I hear true?! You know who killed her?!"

"That's right," I told Lucas.

"What, so now you fancy yourself an amateur detective, do you? Well, pardon me if I'm not interested in playing along with this little game of yours," Noah grumbled.

"You know, maybe we should let Scotland Yard sort this out when we get to the next station," Lucas spoke with a frown.

"Are you suggesting that we sit around and wait when we have no idea who the killer is? I don't think so!" Sophia shouted angrily.

"So, time for you to show us this human way you spoke of," Lucifer told me with a small frown. I guess he's not convinced that I'm able to pull this off but I'm about to prove him wrong.

"Hey, whoa, are you sure that's a good idea?" Mammon question before Satan spoke up.

"Only on version of events is true...!" I sweat dropped when he claimed this and then he looked at me. "Isn't that right, (y/n)?"

Everyone looked in my direction and I took a deep breath to reveal who the killer is.

"Grisella's murderer is...Noah!" I pointed at Noah who looked at me with a shocked expression.

"You think I killed her?! Are you insane?! I respected and admired Grisella! So much so that I wanted to become her apprentice! do you have some sort of proof to back up this accusation of yours?!"

"Ugh, I can't take it anymore, (Y/n)! I can't just sit there and watch! Allow me to take over from here!" Satan grumbled before told us with a smirk.

"Yes, Noah...you are the killer! You and you alone!"

"W-Where's your proof...?!" Noah stuttered.

"The handle of the knife that was found in Grisella's back was pointed slightly downward, correct?"

"Yeah, that's right," Lucas agreed.

"And at the time of the incident, both Sophia and Lucas were standing up, as they had gotten up out of their seats," Satan explained.

"Yeah, I mean, that was my natural reaction..."

"Right, mine too. I was so frightened and upset that I jumped to my feet..."

"Only one version of events is ever true!" Satan smirked.

"You really are lovin' this, aren't ya...?" Mammon mumbled.

"A little too much if you ask me. Who does he think he is? Sherlock Homes?" Raven asked out loud.

"The killer is the one person who didn't stand up: Noah!"

"Wh...!"

"He threw that knife up at Grisella from a seated position...That's why the knife was lodged in her back at a backward angle. Sophia and Lucas were standing at the time Grisella was stabbed. So if they had done it, the knife would have either been peredicualr to her back or point upward...In other words, Noah is the only one who could have thrown that knife, since he was the only one seated at the time...!"

"AAAAH...!" Noah shouted.

"Well, Noah? What do you have to say to that?" Lucifer frowned.

"...It's true...I did it. I killed Grisella..." Noah admitted which made Raven growl angrily.

I glanced at Grisella and it looks like he can't see her ghost, but she's standing next to him now.

"I really did admire her...genuinely! She had true power. Time and time again  asked her to allow me to become her apprentice! But she...she refused to accept me. Because she didn't have faith in me...!"

"So you hated her 'cause of that? Pff, just like a human," Mammon grumbled which earned a glare from me.

"Hey!" I shouted.

"I even told her I'd give up everything I owned if she'd take me on as her apprentice...!"

"I don't believe it...!" Lucas shouted with a shocked expression.

"What were you thinking...?!" Sophia shouted.

"But she never did accept me, and so my life had no meaning anymore..." Noah spoke with a defeated expression.

"Only one version of events is ever true!"

"Shut up Satan!" Raven and I shouted in unison.

"...Hey, how about you stop making that smug face while you're there in my body," Lucifer spoke with a frown and a hint of blush on his cheeks.

After we dealt with Noah and the others, we got back to our cabin and then Grisella remembered something about her so-called Apprentice.

"...Come to think of it, Noah did tell me once that he used to be a knife-thrower in a circus act. I knew that the time of my death was approaching...that's why I wasn't interested in taking on an apprentice. And yet, that's precisely what led to my death... Ugh, the irony."

"I guess it's true what they say; Karama can bring bad luck," Raven spoke up.

"I trusted Noah, but I couldn't do or say anything that would let him know that. He was responsible, dedicated, and serious, but my failure to acknowledge that drove him to the point of killing me..." Grisella spoke in a sad tone.

"Yeah, but he was also a real pain in the ass. If you ask me, you made the right choice not takin' him on," Mammon spoke up.

"Regardless...it's too late to change things now," Lucifer mumbled.

"Yes, it is for me, at least," Grisella told us.

"Grisella, you've gotten what you wanted," Satan told her.

"Yes and I'll keep my promise to you. But first...Satan. There's something I'd like to ask you. I gave that forbidden book to you as a present. Do you remember why?" Grisella asked.

Satan didn't say anything because he couldn't remember.

"I knew that book would be a catalyst for change in your relationship with Lucifer. Though that's not what you wanted back then."

"No. Which is exactly why I made sure to stay away from him it. And yet, for all my effort..." Satan trailed off.

"Hehe, well, you can't change fate. All you an do is accept it, even if you are a demon," Grisella giggled.

"You must endeavor to make the best of the hand fate deals you; not matter what it may be. Always remember that," Grisella told him.

Suddenly a bright light appeared and then a few moments later it died down. Mammon and I looked around and then he spoke up, "Wait a minute... What happened?!"

"Well...it's about time!" Lucifer, who is now back in his own body, spoke loudly.

"Yes...we're ourselves again," Satan, who is also back in his own body, spoke up.

"I guess a witch does keep her promise afterall," Raven spoke with a smile.

"You HAD to get me caught up in this problem of yours, huh? I went through hell for you guys, you know... I'm not gonna be happy until I get a reward for everything I've done. A SERIOUS reward, considerin' how much of my precious time and brainpower I had to put into this. Hmm, let's see...I'm not gonna say you have to give me cash, but if you gave me somethin'I could make money off of, I suppose that'd work-"

"Satan, I want you to give tomorrow's speech," Lucifer cut Mammon off.

"Me...? But that speech is supposed to be given-"

"Yes, by the chosen representive of the student council officers. I know I can trust you to fulfil that role," Lucifer told Satan.

"...Uh...hello? What about my reward...?" Mammon asked but we continued to ignore him.

"Are you going to refuse?" Lucifer asked Satan.

"Refuse? You must be kidding. By the time I'm done, Lord Diavolo won't be able to stop gushing about what an amazing speech I gave. ...And how it was even better than anything you could have done," Satan smirked.

"Pff...well, you're certainly setting the bar high. I look forward to seeing you deliver on that," Lucifer smirked.

I rested my head on Raven's shoulder with a smile on my face.

"I guess that's an end to all of this drama..." I spoke with a tired look.

"Yeah, it was quite the adventure," Raven agreed before I slowly closed my eyes.

RAVEN'S POV

I glanced at (Y/n) and she had fallen asleep on my shoulder. I smiled at her sleeping face before Mammon shouted.

"HEY!! IS ANYONE LISTEN'?!" Mammon shouted before I hushed him.

"Will you shut up?!" I whispered shouted before he and the others looked at (Y/n).

"She's asleep?" Mammon asked.

"I guess today's drama took it out of her," Satan told us with a smile.

"If I'm being honest, I think she also had fun. Aside from the murder, she's been smiling a lot since she started living in the Devildom."

"She has?" Satan asked,

"Yeah, before she came here, she didn't have much to smile about but she does now. It's all thanks to you and the rest of your brothers, well, except for the seventh brother we have yet to meet," I spoke up.

"And you never will," Lucifer frowned.

'Yeah, I think it might be a little late for you to tell me and (Y/n) that,' I thought to myself before I stroked (Y/n)'s hair.
