Chapter 44
READER'S POV
After spending time in the Doji Maji game world, I was so happy to be out of there and in one piece as well. Right now, Mammon, Lucifer and I are walking through the streets doing a little bit of shopping.
"OH MAN! Check this out! Its a super-rare magic stone! Ooh, and it's on sale, too? It says today's featured item...WOW, that's cheap! CRAZY cheap! If I broke it into smaller pieces and sold those individually, I'd make serious bank...Heheheh..." Mammon spoke in a happy tone before he turned his attention to Lucifer.
"Lucifer, my FAVOURITE big brother! You gotta buy that for me! You gotta! C'mon, I gotta have it! I gotta I gotta I gotta I gotta! if you don't buy it for me, I'm gonna be real saaaaad... I'll end up cryin'... I'll throw a tantrum...and you don't want that, do ya?"
"Leave him be, (Y/n). Pretend you don't know him," Lucifer told me as we walked away from Mammon.
"You got it," I told as we continued to leave him.
"Lucifeeeer, come ooooon! I mean, tell me how this fair, huh?! Here it is my day off, and you're draggin' me out shopping with you! And you're not even gonna reward me for it? C'mon, you could at least buy me a magic stone...or a hundred!" Mammon whined like a baby.
"So now you're going to try getting angry at me? As if that would work... And seriously, a reward? What are you a, a child? The entire reason I brought you along with me to begin with is to get you away from Satan. When you two pair up, nothing good ever comes of it, especially when I am expected to clean up the mess."
"He's got a point, Mammon. Every time you two get together, you always come up with new ways to ruin Lucifer's reputation," I told him before Raven sat on my shoulder.
"*Sigh* Tomorrow is my big speech. It's almost time...and yet the curse that caused us to switch bodies shows no signs of going away. Which means I have no guarantee that I will be back to myself in time for the speech," Lucifer spoke with a concerned look.
"You know, we could always back to my idea. Raven can shape-shift into your form and do the speech for you."
"And I already told you it won't work. What do you think will happen if they saw the real me wondering around? Satan could ruin it," Lucifer told me.
Raven whimpered sadly and then I petted his head to reassure him and then Mammon spoke up.
"Doncha think it's about time to give in and ask Satan to do it for you? You're sorta out of options here. I mean, all ya gotta say is, 'Satan, no funny business this time. Give the speech and be done with it'."
"I have no intention of begging him for his help," Lucifer spoke with a frown. "Even if I did do that, I couldn't be sure that he wouldn't end up trying to something nefarious anyway."
"You sure about that?" Mammon asked him.
"I am. This is Satan we're talking about. I highly doubt he would simply do as I asked," Lucifer spoke with a frown.
"Ya know, I know you're serious and all, but hearing those words come outta Satan's mouth like this, it's hard not to laugh...Anyway, after everything that went down inside that game Satan seems like he's changed some. Doncha think?"
"I think he has changed too," I spoke with a smile.
"Exactly. That's what I'm sayin' You see it too, doncha? See, you're smart, (Y/n)! Did ya heart that, Lucifer? (Y/n) AGREES with me!" Mammon grinned.
"Like, how do I put it...? It's like...he's more chill when it comes to you now, Lucifer. He's not all bitter and stuff anymore."
Lucifer grabbed my hand and he said to me,"Come on, (Y/n). I'm going to head inside this store here."
"Okay," I spoke with a smile as we headed inside.
"HEY! Are you even listenin' to what I'm saying here?" Mammon shouted.
"Not at all, no. Also, I don't believe that he's changed," Lucifer told him.
"What makes you say that?" I asked him.
"We're talking about Satan. Ever since the day he came into this world, his entire purpose in life has been to defy me. And now you're suggesting he's changed? It's in his very nature to oppose me, and a demon's nature doesn't change so easily," Lucifer told us before Raven growled at him.
"Hey, Lucifer! Did you forget that I was a wild demon before I met (Y/n)? you'd be surprised how much demons can change the moment they lay eyes on her," Raven shouted before I quickly covered his mouth.
"Raven, hush!"
"What does he mean by that?" Lucifer asked.
"Uh...nothing! nothing important," I chuckled nervously.
"Oh, now I dunno about that. I think you're wrong there. Like, just yesterday I told him we should totally use the fact that he looks like you to our advantage. I said we should scam random folks, make some easy money but, Satan wasn't havin' any of it. He was like 'Nah, I'm tired of doing stuff like that' and 'Eh, too much work'. It used to be that he'd jump at the opportunity like that, but now he's no fun at all!" Mammon complained.
"Um, Mammon-" I tried to stop him but he cuts me off.
"Back before all that stuff happened in the game world, he would've done ANYTHING if it meant makin' life difficult on you. But now suddenly he's not interested..."
"Mammon?" Lucifer spoke up.
"I mean, opportunities like this don't come around every day ya know? And he's wastin' it. We could totally be making ourselves some money right now..."
"Mammon, did I hear you correctly? You were planning to take advantage of the fact that Satan looks like me to scam random folks?" Lucifer asked before a dark aura started to seep out of his body.
Raven whimpered in fear before he hides in my shadow.
"Uh oh..." Mammon whimpered in fear.
"Maaaaaammoooooon?" Lucifer asked with a frown.
"Yikes!"
***
"...Ow...ugh, did ya have to hit me? I mean, seriously..."
"You should be thankful I'm not in my real body, or the damage would've been much worse," Lucifer spoke with a frown.
"Mammon, you really are an idiot, you know that?" I asked him while looking at his beaten up form.
After Lucifer beat the crap out of Mammon, we got to Hell's Kitchen for something to eat and drink.
"I mean, sure, it's not as bad. But still, gettin' hit hurts no matter WHO does it!" Mammon complained.
"Not to worry. I'll be back to my old self soon enough. Then we'll do something about th eoverly lenient beatings you've been getting while I've been in Satan's body. I'll make up for that pain defict all at once."
I gulped when I saw that evil look in his eyes before Mammon spoke up, "Whaddya mean don't worry?! Gah, no thanks! I don't need any more punishment! None!"
"Are you going to tell me you don't need food, either? Because all you've been doing is talking. If you don't eat your food, you're going to lose your chance, you know," Lucifer told him with a smirk.
"Oh, I'm DEFINITELY gonna eat! Man, it's been a long time since I've eaten at Hell's Kitchen. Sure am glad Beel isn't here! Welp, time to dig in! ...Mmm, that's good!"
"Well, this is your reward for coming shopping with me. So eat as much as you'd like," Lucifer told him.
"Okay, I will! I take back everything I said. You're the BEST, Lucifer! *munch* *munch* *munch*"
I stared at Lucifer with a suspcious look on my face and Raven did the same while sitting on my head.
"What's wrong, (Y/n)? Aren't you going to eat?" Lucifer asked me.
"Something's fishy. You're being too nice."
"She's right, what are you trying to pull?" Raven asked.
"Come to think of it, I've heard that there's a famous story in the human world about an evil witch who fattens up children and then eats them. But I'm a demon, not a witch. As much as I enjoy a good human soul, I'm not fond of human flesh. So, go ahead...eat. Have as much as you'd like."
I glared at him before tucking into my meal. Raven didn't waste any time as he also ate some of the slices of chicken that I ordered for him. After we finished with our meals, Mammon sighed happily since he has a full stomach.
"Ahhhh...man that was good... Couldn't eat another bite."
"Yes, I'm sure you couldn't. And guess what? Now you get to compensate me for all of that food you ate...through hard work," Lucifer spoke with a smirk.
"WHA?!"
"I'm heading up to the human world, and you two are coming with me."
My eyes widen with a surprised look because it has been so long since I've been there.
"The human world? Like, for real?! We get to go to the human world?! Ooh, this is awesome! I mean, that sounds like tons of fun! Man, it's been a long time since I've gone up there for fun. I used to corrupt human souls left and right. I'd make a bunch of money doin' it, too. Then I'd go on a massive spending spree! You're coming with, right (Y/n)?! This is gonna be great!" Mammon spoke with a smile.
"Slow down there Mammon. Lucifer, why are we going to the human world?" I asked him.
"Because of the cursed book that caused me to switch with Satan... You see, the witch who created that book is still alive. If we want to break this curse, the best way is to ask the very person who created it. I'm guess she should be able to lift the curse and return me to my proper body," Lucifer explained to us.
"Wait...did you say a witch? A witch that created a forbidden book that could make people switch bodies? ...Hold on, could that be...?! *Gasp*" Mammon spoke with a shocked look on his face.
"What's the matter, Mammon?" I asked him.
"Uh...y'know what? I think I'm gonna go ahead and sit this one out...bye!" Mammon tried to leave but Lucifer stopped him.
"Did you really think I'd simply let you run off, Mammon?" Lucifer grabbed Mammon by the back of his collar.
"G'aaah! Qu-Quit it! Leggo of me!" Mammon struggled to get out of Lucifer's grip.
"I know why you don't want to go. Because it just so happens that witch is a big fan of both you and Satan."
"Then don't drag me along with ya!"
"Actually, that's exactly why I'm going to drag you along with me," Lucifer smirked before he turned his attention towards me.
"(Y/n), you're coming too. As long as we're going to be in the human world, I imagine having one along with us will come in handy."
"Sure, as long as I can bring Raven along with us," I asked as I held up Raven in my arms. "But, where exactly are we going?"
"London," Lucifer told me.
After paying for our meals, we left Hell's Kitchen while Lucifer dragged Mammon.
"NO NO NO NO NO I don't wanna! I'm not goin' to any human world! Don't make meeee!" Mammon begged.
"If you don't shut up now, then once I'm back in my real body, I promise to string you up and hang you upside down for a thousand years!"
"Yikes!"
I laughed at Mammon's panicked expression and then Raven said to him, "Wow, the so-called demon of greed is afraid of a witch. How pathetic can he get?"
"I don't know," I spoke with a smile.
"Hey, are you going to be okay though? I mean the last time you were there, you almost eaten alive," Raven whispered to me.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine. Besides, I've got you now," I whispered with a smile before I looked at Lucifer.
"Hey Lucifer, how are we supposed to get to the human world?" I asked him.
"Oh, there are more than a few methods. One is to use an eternal magic seal...a passage between worlds that has existed since ancient times. There are several magic seals like that, one of which is right here," Lucifer explained to me.
"But pretty much the only demons who are allowed to use those things whenever they feel like are Lord Diavolo, Barbatos and you, Lucifer. What's up with that, huh? I mean, it ain't fair! I wanna be able to use 'em too!" Mammon pouted.
"if another demon wishes to use the doorway, they have to receive permission in advance. Originally all demons were allowed free use of them whenever they wanted. But then we had some problems up in the human world that necessitated a change in our policy, so now it's a permission-based system," Lucifer explained to him.
"What kind of problems?" I asked him.
"You see, a certain someone kept heading up to the human world and getting himself into trouble with the witches there," Lucifer told me with a frown before glaring at Mammon.
"Heh....*gulp*" Mammon gulped nervously.
"Why am I not surprised?" Raven asked while shaking his head before Lucifer told us.
"A second option, or the classic route, is to walk through all eight layers of the Devildom on foot."
"Oh no, uh-uh! Too much trouble!" Mammon complained.
"Relax, I've got no interest in going that way. The classic route is simply too long, and I doubt that (Y/n)'s psyche survive the trip."
I was about to complain about that but, I stopped myself because I knew that he was right. I don't have the stamina of a demon.
"A third way to travel to the human world is to have a magically gifted person such as a witch or sorcerer summon you there. It sounds simple, but there are several limitations to that approach. Mammon is well-acquainted with them...have him fill you in later," Lucifer told me before Mammon started whimpering in fear again.
"Ugh, so scary...no witches no witches no witches no witches..."
"All right, all right. We know you're afraid of witches, Mammon. Now, let's get going."
Suddenly, a bright light appeared and then Mammon shouted while clinging onto me.
"Wait, no...don't make me do thiiiiis!!
