Chapter 37

READER'S POV

We got back home the day after the retreat was over. It was a shame really, I wanted to explore that place a little bit longer and learn more about what Clayton told me and the real reason why he thinks I'm special. But, I decided to leave it for now since we're back in the house of Lamentation.

"Ahhhh! Yep, there's really no place like home! This...! This is my kinda place! This chair! This plate! The way the food tastes!" Mammon spoke with a smile. "I mean doncha agree? there's really no place like the House of Lamentation, huh (Y/n)?"

"Well, the Demon Lord's Castle was pretty nice too."

"Wha?! Are you bein' serious right now? Man, you're a total weirdo," Mammon mumbled that last part.

"*Sigh*...I've walked through this hall a million times but after bein' away all this time, I realise I really missed this place...!"

"Don't be so dramatic. We were only away on our retreat for three days," Satan told him.

"Only...? Satan, did you really just sau we were ONLY away for three days? I'll have you know tht have 36 Ruri-chan figurines and they're more important to me than life itself! But they wouldn't all fit in my luggage, so I had to leave half of them here! Eighteen of my figurines, ABANDONED! Left all alone in the House of Lamentation..." Levi spoke as if it was the end of the world for him.

"Do you know what it was like being away from Ruri-chan? Imagine if someone ripped off your arms and legs, chopped them into tiny pieces, then put the tiny pieces into a wooden pestle and ground them into a fine paste, then kneaded the paste, shaped it into patties and grilled them up! THAT'S how it felt! And yet here you are telling me it was only three days! I'd APPRECIATE it if you wouldn't be so dismissive!" Levi shouted in anger.

"Ahahaha! Look how serious Levi is! He's honestly mad right now!" Asmo laughed at Levi.

"There aren't words to describe how much I can't stand you guys..." Satan grumbled.

"Patties...Now I want a cheeseburger..." Beel mumbled.

"Cheeseburger, huh..."

"...Enough. Stop it. Don't even speak of human world food," Satan spoke with a frown and I don't blame him.

"Oh, are you remembering lunch on the last day of the retreat? Ahaha! Sounds like the human world food you guys had was pretty horrible, huh?" Asmo asked.

"Dunno if disguhsting is the right word. More like toxic..."

"Hey! my cooking wasn't that bad, it was Solomon's! His food could kill a rat, never-mind a demon," I told them.

Beel went silent when I mentioned this before Satan spoke up. "Yeah. I mean, just the thought of it makes Beel freeze. BEEL of all demons...that's how bad it was."

"Poor guy, I don't think his stomach is gonna be same after eating Solomon's poisoned food," I told them while rubbing Beel's back in comfort.

"Please don't remind me..." Beel mumbled.

"Well, even so, I'd have to say it was a fruitful trp. For ME , at least..."

"Ugh, here we go again. Time to listen to Asmo go on and on about himself and all the wonderful things that happened to him again. So annoying..." Levi grumbled before taking out his phone.

"But think about it though! This is me we're talking about... ME! Making a pact! With a human! Who isn't Solomono! I mean, can you believe it...?! *sigh*...It's been sooo long since I've felt this way... You know, that amazing feeling you get when you really connect with someone," Asmo spoke with a smile.

"Ugh, stop makin' it sound so creepy! And just so you know, if you've got a connection with (Y/n), then do I! And Levi and Beel, too!" Mammon pointed out.

"'So don't go gettin' any ideas that head of yours! (Y/n) doesn't belong to you!'" Levi mimicked Mammon's usual quotes which made me laugh.

"Hey! Don't impersonate me!" Mammon shouted at him.

"Speaking of which, check this out," Levi spoke up before he showed me the video of me singing on the night of the dance.

"I posted this on my social media and there have been a lot of likes and comments about your performance (Y/n)," Levi spoke with a smile.

"Really? let me see that," I took the phone from him and he was right, there was at least a thousands of likes so far and some positive feedback.

"Whoa! Who would have thought your little performance would attract this much attention," Asmo spoke with a smile.

"What can I say? I just have a natural talent," I spoke with a proud smile before handing Levi's phone back to him.

"I'm curious though, (Y/n)..." Asmo spoke up before I turned to look at him. "Why is it you want to make pacts with us, anyway?"

"OH, SO YOU'RE JUST GONNA IGNORE ME THEN, HUH?!" Mammon yelled.

"As crazy as this is gonna sound, I want to earn Lucifer's respect," I told him.

"Man, you're a weird one... I mean, I knew that, but still," Mammon mumbled.

"THis is the one time where I actually have to agree with Mammon. I mean, you want Lucifer's respect? What's the point of that?"

"Good question. What is the point of that?"

"AHHH! ...where the hell did you come from?!" I jumped in fright when Lucifer's voice appeared out of nowhere.

"D'AAAH...you SCARED me... What's the big idea sneakin' up on us, huh?! You're gonna give me a heart attack!" Mammon shouted.

"I didn't sneak up on you. You're just so dense that you didn't notice me walk up. Anyway (Y/n), I believe that you're probably tellig the truth when you say you want to earn my respect. But what I want to know is why you want it. What are you trying to accomplish?" Lucifer asked me.

"...Good question. What are you trying to accomplish...?" Satan asked me before he smirked. "Hmm, well...I guess I'll just have to help (Y/n) too, won't I?"

"Wait, you're going to have to explain that, Satan. Are you saying that...?" Levi trailed off.

"Yep. I'll also be making a pact with (Y/n)."

Beel started choking on his food when Satan said this. "*cough* ...Food... caught in throat..."

Lucifer remained silent when Satan this but, he's clearly not happy.

"You're going to help (Y/n)? YOU? Whoa, hold on, you wouldn't do that unless ya had some other motive," Mammom spoke with a frown. "So, let's get this out in the open... WHY is it that you wanna make a pact all of a sudden?"

"Why else? Because if I make a pact with (Y/n), it'll make like hard for a certain someone," Satan spoke with an evil smirk.

"That's enough, Satan," Lucifer spoke with a frown.

"Hey, all I said is that it would make life hard on a 'certain someone'," Satan told him. "I have to say, you seem awfully concerned about the pacts (Y/n) has been making, aren't you, Lucifer."

Lucifer glared at Satan and we started to feel some tension in the room. Raven whimpered before he leapt into my arms.

"Hmm... Levi, I feel like there's something otaku and forum trolls like to say when things start getting heated like this. What was it again?" Asmo asked him.

"Get out the popcorn!" Levi spoke with a smile.

"Right...that's it! Get out the popcorn!" Asmo spoke with a smile.

"G...get out the, uh...the popcorn, heh..." Mammom mumbled.

I sweat dropped when they said this before Raven turned to the food to the table.

"So, today's meal is really good, huh guys!" Levi spoke while trying to change the subject.

"Today's meal...? Yeah, it really is pretty good," Beel spoke with a smile before he offered some to Raven.

"Yeah, even Raven likes it too," I spoke with a nervous smile before Lucifer finally spoke up.

"...Do you really dislike me that much, Satan?"

"Let me turn that question around on you. Did you honestly think I liked you? Really?"

"...I see. All right then, if that's the way it's going to be, then get out of this house, Satan. Now," Lucifer spoke with a frown.

"Wait a minute, Lucifer-" I tried to cut in but, Satan spoke up first.

"What, you want me to leave? Wow, for once you're acutally giving me an order I'd be happy to follow. Okay, then, I will. Gladly," Satan told him before he stood up from his chair, ready to leave the room.

I looked between Lucifer and Satan before I placed Raven back down onto the ground and I stood in front of Satan.

"Satan, calm down. Let's not be so rash about this," I told him before he glared at me.

"Do you feel responsible for this? Is that it? You think this is about you? Pff...don't make me laugh. This was going to happen regardless. So if that's clear, let me pass. I'm leaving.

Satan told me before he brushed passed me.

"Whoa, hey now. Just calm down, you tw-" Mammon tried to calm them down but they were not listening.

"Drop it, Mammon. Let your hopelessly ungrateful brother do as he pleases."

"Ungrateful? Did you call me ungrateful?! Do you honestly think I owe you a debt of gratitude?! Fine, I will do as I please!" Satan shouted in anger before he and Lucifer stormed out of the room before slamming the doors behind them.

"*sigh*...They're gone. Aww, I thought we were gonna see fireworks! Ugh, boooriiiing!" Asmo whined.

Raven came over and he said to me, "I think that went well."

"You think?" I asked with a frown.

***

A while later, Asmo, Mammon and Beel were in my room and I was explaining to him about the real reason why I was making pacts with him and his brothers.

"Oh really... I see. So let me get this straight, (Y/n). You're trying to get Lucifer and Belphegor to make up, and that's why you want to make pacts with us?" Asmo asked me while I was giving a belly rub to Raven.

"Yeah, that's right."

"If Lucifer and Belphegor did make amends, then Belphegor might be able to come from the human world," Beel told him.

"Whoa...whaddya think you're doin', Asmo?! Quit snugglin' up to (Y/n)! Back off!" Mammon shouted as he tried to pry Asmo's arm off my shoulder.

"Well, this is a bold idea you've come up with! You're so unpredictable, (Y/n)! I actually love that about you, you know?" Asmo spoke with a smile before I moved his arm off my shoulder.

"Hey, moron! Did ya even hear what I said?" Mammon spoke with a frown.

"Everyone's totally ignoring Mammon. It's like someone cast an invisibility spell on him. LOOOL," Levi laughed.

"I'm not surprised that Satan decided to make a pact with you, then. He'll do anything if it means upsetting Lucifer," Asmo told me.

"He would?" I asked him before Beel spoke up.

"...Still, I don't think that you'll earn Lucifer's respect that way, (Y/n). Not if Satan makes a pact with you for a reason like that."

"Pffheheh. Beel, you actually said something worthwhile for once. looool," Levi laughed.

"For once Beel's right, Lucifer will hate me if I make a pact with Satan after what just happened," I spoke with a small frown. "But, why does Satan hate Lucifer so much?"

The four of them were quiet for a moment before Asmo told me, "Ah, I guess you could say it's like...the more alike two people are, the more they hate each other?"

"I'd say it's more of an Oedipus complex thing..." Levi mumbled which made me a little confused before turning to look at Raven and he looked confused as well.

"Whoa, slow down. Hold on, kiddies," Mammon interrupted the two of them.

"(Y/n) is just a clueless human...a bottom-dwelling peabrain. It ain't gonna be easy explainin' why Satan's so crazy cynical. I mean, it's complicated. And as the oldest and the smartest and the most badass demon here, you'd best leave it to me. This is a job for MAMMON."

Bonk!!

"Ow!!!"

"Who are you calling a clueless peabrain, you moron?!!" I shouted angrily while Mammon clutched his head in pain.

"Sorry..." Mammon mumbled.

"Ooh, now that's funny. A fleabrain calling someone else a peabrain," Asmo laughed.

"Yeah. Like, that's really the pot calling the kettle black. lololol," Levi chuckled.

"Well, I don't care about of this. And all of this not caring is making me hungry," Beel spoke as he rubbing his growling stomach.

"Whatever! Just shut up and listen, losers!" Mammon shouted before he explained Satan's hatred towards Lucifer.

"Let's start at the beginning. We first came here to the Devildom because there some, uh...trouble. Ya know...stuff happened. To put it in simple terms...it was a family fight between us and our father. And at the time, Lucifer was real, real, REAL mad at our father, ya see. And Satan was born from that wrath. Make sense?"

"Not really, no," I told him.

"Yep, i figured you'd say that," Mammon spoke with a frown.

"At first, Satan was nothing more than the emotion itself. Satan was wrath," Beel told me.

"But then the rest of us taught him things. All sorts of things," Asmo told me.

"Right, exactly. I guess you could say it was like of those games where you raise your own character and train it and stuff? And like, we all raised one character together, passing around the controller to take turns. But Lucifer played way longer than anyone else. If that makes sense," Levi tried to explain it to me.

"Sorry, I sort of lost you there, Levi..."

"I think what he's trying to say is that Satan was especially influenced by Lucifer," Beel told me.

"Right. That," Levi mumbled.

"Satan feels like he wouldn't exist without Lucifer and he doesn't like it," Beel spoke with a small frown.

"But Lucifer isn't just an overbearing father figure when it comes to Satan, you know? I'd say he suffocates all of us," Asmo told me.

'It seems like the best thing to do at this point is to talk to Satan directly...' I thought to myself while thinking about the consequences it might bring.
