Chapter 3
READER'S POV
I slowly opened my eyes and when I came to, I realised that I wasn't in the human world anymore. How did I know? it's because I'm in a place that looks like a courtroom and there were several men looking my way.
'Where the hell am I and what's going on?'
I asked myself before the man in the seat of the chief judge started to speak.
"Welcome to the Devildom, (Y/n)," The red haired man spoke.
"Wait, what?" I asked in a shocked tone.
"Oh, pardon me. Feeling a little shocked, are we? Well, that's understandable. You've only just arrived, after all. As a human, it will probably take a little while for you to adjust to things here in the Devildom."
"Is this a dream?" I asked out of the blue making the the dark brown haired man chuckle.
"Hmm...what a very human thing to say," I heard him mumble before smiling at me. "Outstanding. I have a feeling you might be just the sort of person we're looking for?"
"What are you talking about? who are you people?" I asked him as I stood up from the ground.
"I suppose I should start by introducing myself. My name is Diavolo. I am the ruler of all demons, and all here know of me. And someday soon, I will be crowned King of the Devildom."
My eyes widen when I heard the word Devildom and I guess this means this is where Shadow told me to go after what happened with that fake couple. Just then, Diavolo led me onto the balcony to show me the view. The sky was dark and you can see a castle in the distance which tells me that must be his home since he is the leader of this world.
"This is the Royal Academy of Diavolo though, we just call it RAD," Diavolo explained to me before I turned my head to look at him.
"You're standing inside the assembly hall, the very heart of RAD. This is where we officers of the student council hold our meetings and conduct our business. I'm the president of the council."
"Okay, I understand that much but, why am I here? this place is filled with demons and yet you allow a human like me come here?"
"I will explain everything to you," The raven haired man, who was quiet for a while, spoke up.
"(Y/n), this is Lucifer. He is a demon and the Avatar of Pride. He's also the vice president of the student council and my right-man...and not just in title, I assure you. Beyond that, he's also my most trusted friend."
"Flattery will get you nowhere, Diavolo," Lucifer spoke with a small frown before turning his attention to me.
"Speaking on behalf of the entire student body at this great and storied school of ours, I offer you a heartfelt welcome, (Y/n)."
"On behalf of the students?" I asked Lucifer.
"Diavolo believes that we demons should start strengthening our relationship with both the human world and the Celestial Realm. As a first step toward this goal, we've decided to institute an exchange program. We've sent two of our students to the human world and two to the Celestial Realm. And we're welcoming four students to our school: two from your world and two from the Celestial Realm," Lucifer explained to me.
'When he said Exchange program...that would mean-'
"So I take it you've probably put two and two together at this point, right?" Lucifer spoke after I snapped out of my thoughts. "You've been chosen from among the people of the human world to participate in this program of ours. You are our newest exchange student."
'Oh crap...' I thought to myself before Lucifer continued.
"Your period of stay is one year. You will have to work on the tasks that you will receive from RAD. After one year, you will write a paper about your exchange here in the Devildom."
"Write a paper?!" I spoke in a surprised tone.
"I am not telling you to write a doctoral thesis. You can take it easy."
I glared at him when he said this. How was I supposed to get through the one year of this program without getting eaten by a demon?
"Don't glare at me like that. It's not like I will abandon you all by yourself here in the Devildom. You need someone to look after you and I think that someone should be my brother Mammon."
"Who?" I asked in a confused tone.
"He's the Avatar of Greed and...how should I put it...? Oh well, you'll understand soon enough."
Lucifer puts his hand in his pocket before giving me a phone.
"Here take this device. It's called a D.D.D. It's a lot like the cell phones of your world. This will be yours to use for as long as you're here. Now, go ahead and try calling Mammon with it."
I went onto contacts and I found Mammon's number and I dialled it. It rang for a moment before someone answered.
"Yooo."
"Yooo, to you as well," I replied back.
"Are ya foolin' around? Who the hell are ya?"
"I'm a human," I told him.
"Whaa? A human? Geez, I was gettin' all chilly here thinkin' it was Lucifer again. Ya should've told me right away. So, what business does a human got with THE Mammon?" Mammon asked me.
"Well, apparently, you will be in charge of me from now on," I bluntly told him.
"No way! There's nothing in it for me. Whaddya even mean by 'be in charge of you'?"
I was about to tell him until he finally realised who I am.
"AAH! I get it now, you're the other human - the new exchange student! G'luck with that, and see ya."
"Wait a minute, Lucifer called for you," I stopped him from hanging up.
"Pfft, whatever. Ya think THE Mammon would listen to ya just 'cause you're tryin' to scare me with that name?"
Lucifer leaned closer to the speaker and he told him.
"You've got 10 seconds...9...8..."
"YESSIR!!" Mammon shouted nervously before he hang up.
"Sounds like you had a nice chat."
"Honestly, I would have preferred you, Lucifer."
"Now you're worried?" Lucifer asked me with a smirk.
"Well, if you were suddenly brought to a strange place and then get told that an unfamiliar face will now take care of you, you'd certainly feel anxious. However, Mammon isn't the only one to help you out," Diavolo chuckled before continuing.
"Now then...we will need to introduce our new friend to your brothers, Lucifer. And it's probably better that you do that instead of me, wouldn't you say?" Diavolo asked him.
"Yes...as much as I dread the idea of doing so, you're right," Lucifer grumbled.
"Oh come now. Really? You should be honoured that you get to introduce such a sweet and charming little brother like me!" The cheerful pink haired brother spoke.
"This one here is Asmodeus. He's the fifth eldest. He is the Avatar of Lust."
When Lucifer told me he's the avatar of Lust I knew right away that he's an incubus. I ran into a few of those guys a few times if the friendly demons hadn't stopped them from eating me. I took a few steps back from Asmodeus before he spoke up.
"Wh...I can't believe you just totally ignored what I said! And not only that. you referred to me as this one. How rude!" Asmodeus spoke with a frown before the blonde haired brother spoke up.
"Hmph, at least he didn't ignore you altogether. How do you think I feel?
"This is Satan, the fourth eldest of us. At first glance, he may seem like a responsible demon with a good head on his shoulders, but looks can be deceiving," Lucifer introduced me to his brother.
"Aha, so I'm that one, am I? Nice to meet you, (Y/n). I am Satan, the Avatar of Wrath," Satan introduces himself to me.
"The Avatar of Wrath?" I asked out loud.
"It basically sums up what he's about. He may flash you a pretty smile like that, but you had better be careful because it is all an act," Lucifer explained to me.
"If you continue saying such nonsense, you'll just scare (Y/n). Don't take him too seriously, (Y/n). Lucifer enjoys speaking ill of his brothers. He is the Avatar of Pride, after all," Satan spoke with a dark and scary aura surrounding him which made me step a little closer to Lucifer since Satan looks like he's about to snap.
"*sigh* are you done?" Lucifer asked him before Satan stopped glaring at him.
"Now, the one there with the grumpy look on his face is Beelzebud. He's the sixth oldest."
"Lucifer, I'm hungry," Beelzebud complained.
"That's too bad. Now behave yourself," Lucifer told him before Beelzebud introduced himself.
"I'm Beelzebud, the Avatar of Gluttony," Beelzebud spoke as his stomach growled at the same time. Looks like this is one hungry demon that I might have a challenge with.
"So...there are seven of us brothers in all, and I am the eldest. Mammon, the second oldest of us, will be here soon. My other brothers aren't here at the moment but...well, we can get to them later. All in good time," Lucifer spoke to me.
"During your stay in the Devildom, the seven brothers will lend you their strength. To keep you safe, you are to stay with them at the House of Lamentation."
"The house of Lamentation?" I asked Lucifer.
"Yes, it's where I live with my brothers. It is a rather spacious house, and it was originally a cursed house in the human world. So I assume it won't be a problem for you - a human - to live there."
I shook my head for a no before I thought to myself.
'It's probably for the best. After my fair share of being chased by demons, I'm not ready to get eaten by one of them.'
"Although we will all be living together, you should still have the means to reach us at any given time," Lucifer told me before he showed me his D.D.D. "All of our phone numbers are already in there. And your D.D.D. also has a messaging app. Make sure to add all of us."
"I'll go ahead and send you a message!" Diavolo spoke cheerfully before he got his D.D.D out and then I got a message notification.
"Isn't that nice, (Y/n). Now you will be friends with the future King of the Devildom," Satan commented and I swear I saw a glare in his eyes for a moment there.
"Well, you've got that done now, and it seems the idiot has arrived as well."
I looked at Lucifer with a confused look before the doors swung open followed by shouting.
"HEY! Just who do you think you are, human? You've got a lotta nerve summoning the Great Mammon!! Listen up, because I'm only gonna say this once. If you value your life, then you'll hand over you money now! And anything else of value, too! Otherwise I'll wipe that stupid, happy-go-lucky look right off of your face...by eatin' you! Startin' at your head and working my down, until-"
"Mammon, shut up or I'll punch you!" Lucifer shouted before hitting him.
"GAH, OWW! Hey, what's the big idea?! I thought you were actually gonna give me a chance to shut up before punching me!" Mammon complained while clutching his head.
"(Y/n), Mammon is the Avatar of Greed. He governs and oversees all forms of it. Whenever he takes a liking to someone, they suddenly find themselves awash in money. But from what I hear, if he decides to break it off with someone, that wealth evaporates. They're left without a Grimm to their name," Satan explained to me.
"And he's also a masochist. That part's important," Asmodeus told me.
"I'll keep that mind," I told him as I placed my hand in my pocket to make sure that my wallet is still there in case Mammon tried to pickpocket me.
"Indeed. And it just so happens I have a job for my masochist of a brother," Lucifer spoke with a smirk.
"Y'all, stop telling lies! I ain't asked for that punch and I AIN'T a masochist!"
'Yeah, keep telling yourself that,' I thought to myself before Lucifer told Mammon.
"Mammon, you are going to be in charge pf seeing to this human's needs during the whole exchange. I expect your full cooperation."
"What?! Why me?!" Mammon complained again making me roll my eyes at him.
"Aww, lucky you, Mammon. I am so jealous..." Asmodeus commented with a pout.
"All right, then why don't YOU do it, Asmodeus?!
"What? hell no, too lazy."
"I thought you said you were jealous of me?!" Mammon shouted at him.
"Just give up, Mammon. There's no getting out of this. You know you can't refuse a direct command from Lucifer, correct?" Satan spoke up.
"But why does it have to be me?! What about Beel. Why can't he do it?" Mammom asked his brothers.
"This isn't a job we can entrust to Beel. We might as well ask him to eat this human."
"Mm, yeah. I can't promise I wouldn't," Beel told him before I slowly stepped back from him so he didn't get any funny ideas.
"You're useless, you know that?!"
"...Mammon?" Lucifer called out to him.
"...Wh-what?" Mammon asked him before Lucifer showed off a scary aura.
"Surely you're not going to tell me that you object to this arrangement, are you?"
Mammon looked nervous for a moment before he shouted angrily.
"Ugh...I hate you guys! Every last one of ya! Fine...FINE! I'll do it okay?!" Mammon spoke before he turned his attention towards me.
"All right, human listen up. As much as I don't want to look after you, I've got no choice. It's a huge pain in the ass, and I'm too important for this kind of thing but Lucifer told me to do it, so I will. But in return, you better make sure you don't cause me any trouble, got it?!"
"All right, deal," I told him since I didn't want to cause any bother with him.
"Good, that's what I want to hear. As long as you do as I say, we won't have any problems. Just be sure you don't forget which one of us is the boss here," Mammon told me before Lucifer spoke up.
"We have decided who will take care of you, so on to the next subject : your tasks."
"Tasks?" I asked Lucifer.
"Good question...your task is to polish up your soul nicely and to acquire the power of resist demons."
"My soul?"
"Demons like humans with nice souls. Let me put it this way. Nice souls look like shiny jewels. Do you understand now?"
I nodded my head before he continued.
"Demons will use their wisdom and abilities to tempt the humans so they can get their hands on their souls. Other demons at RAD also have tasks assigned to them just like you. In other words, either humans will be tempted by demons, or demons will lose against the shing and noble soul of a human and make a run for it. You could say it's an experiment to find out who will win."
"What happens if I lose?"
"There is no penalty set. Would you like me to think of one?"
"Uh, no thank you!" I spoke nervously.
"There, there, don't give me that look. Don't take it seriously. You won't have to do those tasks on your own. After all, you don't have any magic in you unlike the other exchange student from the human world so my brothers and I will lend you our power to you and you alone."
I understood that much before he continued.
"With that, my explanation has come to a close. But to sum it up for you, you will be an exchange student here at RAD for one year, and you must do your tasks. Your tasks consists mainly of dance battles and as you have no magic power, we will lend you a hand. If you want to use our power, you will have to use special cards. You can summon those cards through the app called Nightmare. And when your exchange period comes to an end, you are to submit a paper about your stay here in the Devildom. It's as easy as pie, don't you think?"
'Staying the demon world for one year as an exchange student, completing tasks and write an essay at the end of the year without getting eaten. Yeah, sounds easy enough NOT!!' I shouted in my head.
"I wanna make one thing clear right now: Don't blame me if someone gets eaten, 'cause it ain't my fault," Mammon spoke up.
"Lucifer, I'm hungry," Beel complained while clutching his growling stomach.
"That's too bad. Now behave yourself."
"..."
"Look, as much as I like to be a part of your program but, I have to refuse. Let me go home! I have someone waiting for me there!" I told the brothers with a frown.
"That is unfortunately not an option. You were chosen. That is something you can't change," Lucifer told me while I sighed in annoyance.
"(Y/n), from now on you will be living in the House of Lamentation. You'll be staying with Lucifer and his six younger brothers. Humans, angels, demons, I imagine a universe where each accepts the other. Where we are brought together as friends. This is my dream, and I'm asking you to be the foundation for it. One year, that's all I ask of you. Good luck, (Y/n)," Diavolo told me with a smile.
'I'm gonna need all the luck I can get if I want to survive here for the one whole year...'
I thought to myself before Mammon commanded me.
"Let's go human."
"Ugh, who died and made you the boss of me?!" I shouted as I followed him out of the room.
3RD PERSON POV
After (Y/n) and Mammon left, Diavolo looked at Lucifer and he told him.
"Keep a sharp eye on that girl."
"Why?" Lucifer asked him with a confused look.
"Let's just say that I have a feeling this human is a special one. I'm not saying that because of of the exchange program. Didn't you sense anything off about her?" Diavolo asked him.
Lucifer couldn't understand what he meant by it but, once the one year at RAD expires that's when he realises why (Y/n) is special.
