Chapter 24
READER'S POV
The next day after last night's events, everyone was silent during breakfast and you could cut the tense with a knife. I quietly sipped my tea while Raven ate his food quietly.
"...Aw, normally everyone's so happy and full of energy at breakfast. But things are sooo tense today!" Asmodeus broke the silence.
"After hearing about what happened last night, I'm not surprised," Satan commented before Asmo glanced at Levi.
"How about you, Levi? You weren't involved in the drama at all?"
"I haven't left my room in the three days since Master of Diablo released. That's my new game. I've been busy trying to finish it. It's an open-world game set in the human world, which you try to destroy by asserting control over Diablo, Lord of the Underworld. It's AMAZING," Levi told us.
"So you're playing yet another game with inappropriate themes..." Satan grumbled. "Still, I have to admit, sometimes there are advantages to being a shut-in. You avoid getting caught up in unpleasant business, like what happened last night."
"Yeah, you can definitely say that. Just look at Beel, he's on his sixth cup of soup. That's only half of his normal pace," Asmo commented as he glanced at Beel.
Satan smirked before he looked at Mammon, "I see that Mammon has the same stupid look on his face as he always does."
"Hey! what's that about my face now?!" Mammon shouted with a frown.
"You all! Stop whisperin' over there! if you've got somethin' to say, just come out and say it!"
"I don't know what you're talking about. We weren't whispering. Don't have a hissy fit, Mammon," Asmo told him.
"You know, we weren't able to ue the kitchen until yesterday, as someone had destroyed it. So I'd say we're the victims here."
Satan spoke with a small frown while everyone else remained silent. I looked at the others and I thought to myself, 'This is really uncomfortable.'
"I'm done. I'm going to class early," I told the others before standing up from my seat.
"(Y/n)," Lucifer called out to me.
"Yes, Lucifer?"
"Would you come see me in the music room before heading to class?"
"Uh, sure."
"I'll be there waiting for you," Lucifer told me before he left the room.
"I can sense how unhappy he is," Raven mumbled.
"Ooh, Lucifer wants to see (Y/n)? Yikes! Super scary!" Asmo spoke up.
"Pff... Careful Asmodeus. He might hear you."
Satan and Asmo told me before they left the room. I looked at the demons who I made a pact with and they all looked at me with a worried expression on their faces. Maybe I can convince one of them to accompany me part of the way to the music room.
"Raven..."
"Forget it!" Raven shouted before he hides in Beel's shadow.
"Some loyal hound you are!" I shouted at him before looking at Beel.
"Beel, do you mind accompanying me?"
"All right."
Beel spoke with a small smile before he stood up from his seat and then we headed to the music room. Once we got there, Beel looked at me and he said to me.
"This is as far as I can go with you. I don't know what Lucifer wants, but I sure hope it doesn't turn out to be bad news for you."
"I'll be fine, Beel. Don't worry, I've faced worst demons before I met Lucifer."
"...Don't go dying on me, okay?"
"I won't."
I spoke with a smile before he walked away and left. I took a deep breath before I opened the door to the music room and Lucifer was already waiting for me.
"Ah, you're here. I assume you know what it is I want to talk to you about. It's regarding last night."
I gulped nervously when he mentioned last night because when I put on that brave face I was terrified deep down since that was the first time I saw Lucifer get angry and lose control the way he did.
"What I did to you was inexcusable. I apologise."
"It's okay. Although, you did scare me when you lost control like that but, none of that matters now. I've forgiven you."
"Good, but there's one thing I want to make absolutely clear," Lucifer spoke in a serious tone.
"What is it?" I asked him nervously when I saw that look on his face.
"As long as they consent to it, I have no problem with you making pacts with my brothers. However, your curiosity is getting the better of you. I want you to stop sticking your nose where it doesn't belong."
"Uh...I don't know what you're talking about..." I spoke nervously.
"You know perfectly well what I'm talking about," Lucifer spoke with a frown as he walked closer to me while took a few steps back from him. "I believe I warned you not to climb the stairs leading up to the attic and yet you did exactly that."
Suddenly, my back was pressed against the wall and then Lucifer continued, "I'm the only demon able to go up there. There's a spell cast on the stairs that ensures that. However, it only works on demons - humans and angels are still able to pass... Unfortunately. As I'm sure you've found, there's nothing at all at the top of those stairs."
'It seems Lucifer doesn't know that I came in contact with Belphegor,' I thought to myself before Lucifer closer to my face.
"Curiosity killed the cat. If you behave yourself, you'll complete your year here in the exchange program. At which point, we'll return you to the human world. I imagine that last night served as somewhat of a learning experience for you."
I gulped nervously and I nodded my head. "Oh yeah...definitely a learning experience... I don't want to make you angry again...."
I spoke in a nervous tone before Lucifer backed away from me.
"Still, the fact remains that I put you through a very scary experience. Sometime in the near future, I'd like to treat you to a meal out somewhere to make it up to you."
This caught me off guard but, it did put a smile on my face after seeing that serious look on his face. "I would like that very much, thank you."
"Well, that's all I had to say. You're free to go."
"Thank you!" I told him before left the room and headed to school.
Once I got there, I went into the assembly hall where the other brothers were waiting for me and they looked relieved to see me. Well, I meant the ones who I made a pact with anyway.
"Hey, how about that! (Y/n), you're alive!" Mammon spoke in a happy tone when he saw me.
Beel came over to me and he checked me out by patting my arms and legs to make sure they were still intact.
"Let's see...yep, you've still got both arms and both legs," Beel commented before he leaned closer to my face. "Your eyes are still in their sockets and your eras are still attatched. Guess you're okay."
"Hehe, Beel cut it out! I'm fine!" I laughed as I swatted his hands away from me.
Suddenly, Raven jumped of Beel's shadow and he tackles me onto the ground before licking my face.
"(Y/n)! thank goodness you're okay! I'm so sorry! I'm a bad dog! I promise I'll protect you from him from now on!!" Raven shouted while licking my face.
"Hahaha!! Raven! stop! hahaha!! you're getting dog drool all over me!!" I shouted at him while laughing at struggling to get him off of me.
"I guess we were not the only ones who was worried about you," Mammon chuckled before Raven pulled away from me.
I sat up from the ground wiped the drool off of my face before Levi spoke up, "I want to know what Lucifer said. You've got to give me the deets L-8-R, yo!"
"Man, there you go again! 'Give me the deets L-8-R, yo?'?! Like, what lame message board did ya learn THAT on?! Also, it's one thing to type L8R, but who the hell actually says it out loud?" Mammon asked him before I stood up from the ground and wiped the dust off myself.
"That's simple; he's an Otaku."
Levi nodded his head with a proud smile on his face before Asmo spoke up.
"Whaaat, you're still alive? Well, that's boring..."
"Of course. Unless he went crazy again like last night, Lucifer wouldn't harm (Y/n). And do you know why that is, (Y/n)?" Satan asked me with a smirk.
"Because I'm an exchange student from the human world."
"Exactly. I see you have a good grasp of what's going on here. If anything were to happen to one of our exchange students, it would make Lord Diavolo look bad. Lucifer would never do anything to harm Lord Diavolo's reputation," Satan told me.
"I know that, I'm not stupid unlike Mammon," I commented while Raven growled at Satan.
"Hey!" Mammon shouted before we saw the Devil himself coming into the room now.
"Ooh...speak of the devil! Lord Diavolo and Lucifer just showed up," Asmo spoke with a smile.
"Uh oh, Raven you better hide before Diavolo sees you," I told him before he nodded his head and then Raven hides in my shadow.
"Well, it seems that everyone's here. Shall we get started, Lucifer? " Diavolo asked him.
"All right, I'm going to go ahead and call this officers' meeting to order. To start things off, Lord Diavolo has an announcement for us," Lucifer told us before Diavolo made his announcement.
"Yes. Well then, I assume that some of you have already heard the rumours about the group retreat. And they're true. I'm planning an exchange party between demons, angels and humans to be held at my castle. I have a feeling that this will turn out to be quite the interesting experience for all of us."
