Chapter 22
READER'S POV
After looking at the dollhouse, we headed to the area where the room hidden room was. Once we got in the hallway, Beel looked around and then he said to me.
"There's here. It's just a wall. But the dollhouse it definitely showed a small room here," Beel wondered as he continued to search for a door or something.
"But there's no door. And if I remember correctly, the only thing that should be on the other side of this wall is Lucifer's room. Could the dollhouse model be wrong...?"
"I don't think neither option is wrong. Maybe there is a room here," I told Beel while Raven sniffed the area.
"So you're saying that there's a room there but you wouldn't know it from the outside - in other words, a secret room?" Beel asked me.
"Yeah, maybe there's a hidden handle or something around here," I told Beel as I started to run my hands over the wall to feel for a door handle. Raven sniffed at the wall until he spotted something.
"Hey, look at this."
We looked the spot on the wall and then Beel said to me.
"It looks like a decorative pattern, but I can make out the words written here. It's a message written in the language of angels. This is what it says: 'When the morning star dwelt in the heavens, its light shone down upon this one, sparkling brilliantly, the eighth of the eight.' It's a riddle. And more importantly, I know the answer to it."
"You do?" I asked him a surprised tone.
"Yes. 'The morning star' is another name for Lucifer. So 'when the morning star swelt in the heavens' means 'when Lucifer was an angel. It's light shone down upon this one, a sparkling brilliantly, the eighth of the eight.' That part refers to someone Lucifer loved deeply: the eighth child of the eight. our sister. Her name was Lilith."
As soon as he said her name the wall disappeared and then a room was revealed. Raven whimpered when it shone brightly before hiding in my shadows.
"Let's go," Beel told me before we went into the room.
Beel's eyes widen when he saw the room and then he mumbled.
"I...I know this place..."
I looked at Beel and he told me, "It's Lilith's room from back up in the Celestial Realm. I'm sure of it. What's Lilith's room doing here, in the House of Lamentation...?"
I didn't know if this was the right time to ask him but, for some reason, I wanted to know more about her.
"Beel, I know this rubbish timing but...who was Lilith?"
"Like I said before, Lilith was our little sister. But she's gone now."
"Gone?"
"She died. In the Celestial War."
I gasped when he told me this because I had no idea that she had died. It's no wonder why Beel and the others don't talk about her so much.
"Do you know about the Great Celestial War? About what happened then?"
"No, I don't."
"My brothers and I were originally angels. That was back before the Great Celestial War - before we were cast out. Lucifer incited a revolution against our father, and we aligned ourselves with him. Those who followed our father fought against those who followed Lucifer. That was the Great Celestial War. In the end, our father crushed our rebellion, and cast us outof the Celestial Realm."
'So that's how the rebellion started and why these guys became demons, aside from Satan since he was born from Lucifer's anger.'
I thought to myself before Beel continued with his story.
"During the battle, my sister Lilith's wing was pierced by an arrow. Both Belphie and I saw it. It happened right in front of our eyes..." Beel's eyes showed some saddness as he relived that memory. "She fell down our of the heavens and...died."
I could feel tears stinging in the corner of my eyes when he told me this while Raven whimpered sadly.
"Just before Lilith was shot, I saw angels from the opposing side draw their bows and aim both at her and Belphie. I couldn't save bother...the three of them were too far apart. I knew I'd only be able to get to one of them in time. Then suddenly Belphie's eyes met mine...and just like that, I rushed over to him and shielded him from the attack. I wasn't able to save Lilith. She died and it was my fault."
'Poor Beel...after all these centuries, he still blames himself for not saving his only sister.'
I thought to myself before I gently take a hold of his hand. Beel glanced at me and I told him.
"Beel, you did nothing wrong. It wasn't your fault that Lilith got shot."
"Everyone tells me that. 'You couldn't help it,' that's what they all say. But none of them saw what I saw. They didn't see how Lilith looked at me as the arrow pierced her wing in the split second before she fell. They didn't see that look of despair..." Beel lowered his head sadly and I could feel his grip on my hand tighten.
"Belphie hasn't ever come out and said it, but I think he blames me for not being able to save Lilith. I know he wanted me to save her instead of him.In fact, I knew that at the time, but I chose to save him instead."
Beel raised his head before turning to look at me.
"(Y/n), what would you have done?"
"What?" I asked in a surprised tone.
"If you had been in my shoes, who would have saved, Belphegor or Lilith?"
I had a little think and if Beel was in my shoes I would have saved my twin brother as well. I was about to tell him until my D.D.D. started ringing.
"Your D.D.D. is ringing. You should get that," Beel told me before releasing my hand.
"Mammon?"
"HEY! (Y/n)...where are you?!!" Mammon shouted in the phone and I moved it away from my ear. "Something seriously bad is about to happen here! Get your butt down to the underground tomb now! hurry!"
"Wait, slow down, what's going on?" I asked him.
"The dog is down here, and Lucifer's about to kill him...!"
My eyes widen and then Mammon hung up the phone. Beel listened to our conversation and then he asked me.
"The dog? Does he mean Luke?"
"I think so!"
"Come on, we'd better get to the underground tomb," Beel told me before he took off running.
"Hey! wait for me!"
I called out to him before Raven and I followed Beel. We got to the underground Tomb and we saw Mammon, Luke and a very angry Lucifer there.
"Lucifer, come on! Calm down a little, would ya?! He's just a lost dog, that's all! There's no need to go revealing your true form over this, now is there?!" Mammom tried calming Lucifer down.
"R-R-Right, e-exactly! A-And if you th-think you're gonna s-scare me looking all evil like that, y-you're wrong! It w-w-won't work! I-I'll h-have you know that I r-report directly to Michael the Archangel, one of the g-g-greatest-"
"Luke. That book you've got in your hand...do you realise what that is?" Lucifer spoke in a furious tone.
"Y-You mean this...? I found it a minute ago. The sculpture on the stone coffin there was holding it," Luke spoke in a scared tone.
Beel glanced at the book and then his eyes widen when he recognised it, "I know that book."
Mammon turned to us and he looked relived when he saw us.
"FINALLY! (Y/n), Beel, you're here! IT TOOK YA LONG ENOUGH!" Mammon shouted at us.
"That's a grimoire," Beel told us.
"WHAT?!"
"Wh...!"
Mammon and Luke shouted in a shocked tone. Raven growled a little when he stared at it.
"A grimoire?"
"Yes, it's a book of magic known as a grimoire. Several of them exist. Actually, there's one installed on your D.D.D. as well, (Y/n). 'Nightmare' is a grimoire. But Nightmare is nothing more than a trial version of sorts. It can temporary borrow a demon's power. The grimoire Luke is holding has the power to control a demon - to make him do anything, even if it's a violation of a pact. Everything that we are rides on that book. We can never allow it to be stolen under any circumstances. I didn't realise Lucifer was hiding it here in the underground tomb," Beel explained to me which made more sense at least now I know why Lucifer is furious right now.
"This is no time to be standing around lost in thought, Beel! Get with the program!" Mammon shouted. "Now listen up, dog! What I wanna know is how you ended up lost in a place like this! No one but us has access to this place! So how'd you get here?!"
Luke sweat dropped nervously before he spoke up.
"I-I don't know! Y-Your guess is as good as mine! I tumbled down out of the closet in Beelzebud's room and found myself here! And then-"
"Wait. Beelzebud's room...? Did I hear that correctly? Did you just say the words BEELZEBUD'S ROOM?!"
Beel and I sweat dropped nervously and I mumbled.
"Oh crap..."
"Uh-oh, this is bad...!" Mammon whispered.
"BEELZEBUD...!" Lucifer yelled angrily making me hide behind Beel. "Were you hiding this angel in your room? Did you allow him access to the House of Lamentation? This angel who would try to steal that grimoire...?"
"Y-You've got it all wrong! I wasn't trying to steal it at-"
"Hey, idiot! this ain't no time to be makin' excuses!!" Mammon interrupted him. "Once Lucifer flips out, it's no use tryin' to stop him! I mean, there's one guy who could do it, but-"
"You two had better be ready to face the consequences...!"
Beel and Luke's eyes widen when Lucifer threatened them and I had to do something. I rushed in front of Beel and Luke with my arms spread out which them by surprise.
"(Y/n)?!" Mammon shouted.
"Out of the way, human! Or do you want to die here?!"
"I'm not moving, Lucifer! I won't let you hurt them! I will protect them both!"
"Stop it, (Y/n)..!"
"C'mon, this is serious! He's gonna kill you for real!"
Beel and Mammon shouted to try and convince me to move out of the way.
"A human risking so much to defend a demon and an angel...how very interesting. Well, if you want to be a hero, you're going to have to choose one of them to save. Beelzebud or Luke. It's one or the other. Make your choice!" Lucifer demanded with an angry look but I wasn't fazed by this, not after experiencing the demons from the human world.
"I can't choose one of them! I will never make that choice because I want to save them both!"
Beel and Luke were surprised when I told Lucifer this.
"What's that now? you want to save both...? Do you actually think I'm going to allow a lowly human that choice?! That you can have whatever it is you WANT?! NO...!"
Lucifer charges at me and then I shut my eyes before everything around me turned black.

"...(Y/n)...come back to me, (Y/n)," I heard a familiar voice as I came too.
I slowly opened my eyes and I was back in Beel's room and I was in his bed with the covers pulled up to my chest. Raven was curled up next to me and then he woke up before yawning.
"Beel...Raven..."
"(Y/n), you're awake," Beel spoke in a relieved tone before Raven whimpered happily before licking my cheek making me giggle.
"I've been here watching you. I thought you might never wake up, since humans are so fragile and all. I'm really glad you're awake again," Beel told me while scratched Raven's fur and he happily nuzzled his head on my chest.
"Do you remember what happened?"
"A little..." I mumbled as I pressed my fingers on my temple.
"You made Lucifer really mad when you stepped in to protect Luke and me. You almost got yourself killed. If Lord Diavolo hadn't come running up, you'd be dead right now, you know. Lord Diavolo managed to stop Lucifer."
"So that's what happened...." I mumbled.
"You saw how Lucifer looked back then, and yet you stepped in front of me and spread your arms to block him. It was like you had a death wish. You need to go to Lord Diavolo and thank him for saving your life," Beel told me the rest of the story.
I sat up a little and I asked him, "Were you hurt, Beelzebud?"
"No, I wasn't hurt at all. But is this really the time to be worrying about me? You almost died, you know? A human stepping in to sheild a demon from harm. I've never even heard of anything like that before."
"What about Luke? is he all right?" I asked him in a worried tone.
"Luke's fine, Simeon came and took him back Purgatory Hall. He was pretty shaken up after what he experienced."
Beel looked sad for some reason and then I held his hand before asking him.
"What's wrong? you didn't do anything bad?"
"Luke didn't do anything wrong/ I'm the one to blame here. I'm the one who hid him in my room, I'm the reason he disappeared. I'm the one who failed to calm him Lucifer down, and ended up putting you in danger...and it was all my fault. When you stepped in to sheild me from Lucifer, I was pretty shocked. I mean, why would you go to those lengths? You're not a demon or an angel, and you're not even someone with powerful magic. You're just a regular human. So why...why did you try to protect Luke and me?"
"Isn't it obvious? you're my friends and you're important to me. I can't stand by and watch you two get hurt."
"So...I'm your friend. Ah..." Beel mumbled while Raven rested his head on my chest with his ears pressed back in a relaxed form.
"As I watched you there sleeping, as I looked at your face, I couldn't help wondering... If the situation had been reversed, would I have stepped in to defend you?" Beel wondered before Raven spoke up.
"I stepped in to defend her before Diavolo showed up. I didn't do because she's my master, it's because she's my best friend too. Human or not."
Beel smiled when Raven told him this because he knew that he had made a point. Beel looked at me and he asked me.
"I want to do something to make it up to you - to thank you for saving me. So, is there anything I can do?"
"There is. I want you to make a pact with me," I told him without hesitation.
Beel looked surprised when I told him that I wanted to make a pact with him.
"So you've made a pact with Mammon and Leviathan, and now you want to make one with me. Why are you so interested in making pacts with demons, huh? I want to know why you want to make a pact with me. Let's hear it."
I can't tell Beel about the plan to free Belphie so I decided to give him a different reason why I'm making pacts with him and his brothers.
"I want Lucifer to respect me."
"You want Lucifer to respect you? why?"
"So that he'll let me help him make up with Belphegor," I told him with a small smile.
"So, by making pacts with us, you're hoping to impress Lucifer? So that he'll understand that you're actually someone wort listening to, despite the fact that you're a human? You want to do what even Solomon hasn't been able to accomplish?"
"In a nutshell, yes," I spoke nervously.
Beel was silent for a moment before he finally spoke up.
"All right. I feel the same way. I want Belphegor and Lucifer to make up, too. So I'll do it. I'll make a pact with you, (Y/n)."
I smiled at Beel when he told me this before we made a pact. Demon number three is in the bag.

3RD PERSON POV
Elsewhere, at roughly the same time, another conversation is taking place. Lucifer and Diavolo were in his office and they were talking about tonight's events.
"I'm sorry, Diavolo," Lucifer apologised. "I was so blinded by rage that I lost control of myself. If I'd actually attacked (Y/n, then the entire exchange program would've ended in disaster. I'm grateful you showed up to stop me. Thank you."
"Well, it was an understandable reaction on your part. As demons, everything that we are rides on that grimoire. If it had been stolen, that would have been a disaster as well. You were trying to protect your brothers, weren't you?" Diavolo asked him.
"Perhaps, but I nearly ended up losing one of them in the process...Beel," Lucifer frowned a little when he remembered his brother's face when he tried to hurt him.
"I know how important your brothers are to you, Lucifer. How much you care. And if they can see that as well - if they understand it - then that's a good thing. However..." Diavolo trailed off.
"You said something to (Y/n) back there. 'Do you actually think I'm going to allow a lowly human that choice? that you can have whatever it is you want? no...'" Your loyalty top me, your brothers' freedom, their right to know what's really going on... You place so much importance on all of these things. So I wonder, who is it REALLY isn't being given choices here? Who is it that's suffering from a lack of options? ...What do you think, Lucifer?"
Lucifer didn't know how to respond to that other than looking away from Diavolo with a small frown on his face.
