Chapter 18

READER'S POV

The next morning, I was on my way to the planetarium to do a little bit of studying since I couldn't concentrate in my room no thanks to a certain Avatar of greed. I was about to open the doors until Raven stopped me.

"Wait, Lucifer and Beel are in there," He whispered to me.

"Eh?"

I peaked through the crack of the door and he was right, Lucifer and Beel were there and it looks like they were talking about something. I know eavesdropping is wrong but, I need to know what they were talking about.

"I haven't heard anything from Belphie up in the human world," Beel told Lucifer.

"He's probably been busy. The life of an exchange student is a busy one."

"Belphie was against the whole idea of the exchange program from the start. I know he didn't want to go to the human world of all places."

Raven and I looked at each other with confused looks before we turned out attention back to the two of them.

"No, I don't imagine he did."

"Come on, Lucifer. You have to forgive Belphie."

I wasn't surprised when Beel said this because I believe there was a reason why Lucifer locked Belphie away.

"If you insist on sending an exchange student to the human world, I'll go instead. So could you let Belphie come back here to the Devildom?"

"No."

"But-"

"You understand Diavolo's dream, don't you?" Lucifer asked him with a small frown.

"...For angels, demons and humans to recongise, accept, and respect one another. And to create a new world together..." Beel told him with a defeated look on his face.

"Exactly. And the first step toward that goal is this exchange program. But, Belphegor opposed it. I will eliminate anyone who tries to stand in the way of Diavolo's dream, no matter who might they be. Even if it's own my brother."

'Brr...now that's a cold shoulder...'

I thought to myself before Lucifer continued.

"Beel, it's not that I don't understand how you feel. Belphie is your twin brother and you were especially close to him. So with that said, answer me this. Who would you choose to side with, Belphegor or me?"

"I, um..." Beel struggled to the answer that question and I don't blame him. How can he chose between his twin brother or his big brother?

"So he can't manage to answer, eh? That's just like Beel..." A familiar voice spoke which made me jump in fright.

"Where did you come from?" I whispered to Mammon.

"What? don't look at me like that. You eavesdroppin' on them too. You tryin' to tell me that it's okay for you to do it but, not me?"

"Good point," I mumbled.

"If we stay here too long, eventually Lucifer is gonna find us. Come on, let's head over that way."

Mammon grabbed my hand and then we headed into the dining room. I sighed in relief and then mammon asked me.

"So, what's the reason for listenin' to those two?"

I explained to Mammon about how Beel told me about Belphie and his sister Lilith. I didn't tell him where Belphie was because as I mentioned before, I don't want to see a bloodbath.

"So, Beel told you about Belphie and Lilith, did he? I've gotta say, gettin' Beel to tell you about Belphie and Lilith...for a human, you've done good! I gotta hand it to you."

"Thanks...I think. But, for some reason Beel doesn't like talking about them as much. Is there a reason for that? how come I haven't met Lilith yet?"

Mammon looked away from me for a moment and then he said to me.

"How do I explain this? So, we were all actually angels up in the celestial realm before we fell from grace, so to speak."

"Really? wow, I had no idea."

"Back then, Lucifer was especially fond of Beel, Belphie and Lilith. He loved those three. But things changed after we ended up in the Devildom. Lucifer is such a super-serious guy and all, so..."

"What happened after you guys came here?" I asked him.

"After pledging loyalty to Lord Diavolo he always put Diavolo's desires first from that point on, no matter what. He does it even when it's something he doesn't agree with, ya know? I mean, seriously, would it kill him to be a little flexible sometimes?"

I shrugged my shoulders before Mammon continued.

"But anyway, that's what brought this on. When Lord Diavolo suggested this exchange program thing, and Belphie opposed it Lucifer wouldn't listen to a thing Belphie said. He just sent him striaght up to the human world, and that was that. I mean, I'm not sayin' that Belphie would've convinced him of anything even if he'd taken the time to listen. But still...if the two of them would've talked it out, I can't help thinkin' things would've turned out different..."

"If Belphie was opposed to the program why would Lucifer send him away? I mean does Belphie have something against angels or humans or something?" I asked Mammon.

"Whoa, did ya hear that?! I just something' kinda awesome there, didn't I?! It's not often I do that!"

"And once again, you're not listening..." I mumbled.

"Way to go, me! MAN I'm amazing!"

I facepalmed and sighed in annoyance before mumbling.

"How Lucifer puts up with you, I'll never know..."

Hey, come on, I think I deserve some praise here! And while you're at it, how about ya show a little reverence, too!"

I shook my head at him before I remembered Belphie's words to me.

'I know that Belphie was opposed to this program but, I still haven't learnt the reason why he was so against it. But then again, being locked away so long makes you go a little mad and he does seem desperate to get Lucifer to talk to him. Should I even listen to him and help him or should I keep following Luke's advice about trusting a demon because I have already gotten some bad vibes off of Belphie.'

"Hey, come on! Are you even listen' to anything I'm sayin' here? Don't ignore me!" Mammon shouted after I stood up from my seat and I left the room.

'So, if Lucifer and Belphie have to talk, something might change. But, there's no telling how it will end but still, it might make Beelzebud feel better. It's hard on him, caught between the two of them like he is.'

"What are you thinking?" Raven asked me after he came out of the darkness and walks next to me.

"I'm just wondering what I should do. I know for a fact that Belphie was against this plan in the first but, why lock him up like that?"

"I don't know, maybe Lucifer thought he was a danger to the humans and angels. Who knows..."

"Maybe but still, if Lucifer doesn't talk to Belphie he could be still locked away for god-knows how long and Beel will keep asking Lucifer of his whereabouts. However, if Lucifer does talk to Belphie, it will make Beel feel better but, what if it ends in disaster? What if Belphie tries to do something evil?"

"You do have a good point there."

"Raven, what do you think I should do?" I asked him as I stopped in my tracks to crouch down to his height.

"Why are you asking me? I don't have siblings."

"I know that but, figuratively, if you had to witness a falling out between your younger and eldest sibling and you had to side with one of them, who would it be?"

"To be honest I'd pick both of them. Yes they have a different opinion on the matter but, if I did pick one of them as a favourite that would make it look like I picked the favourite sibling out of the two of them and I don't want that. The way how I see it, I would find a way to make them talk to each other and find out why they feel like they argued about it in the first place maybe they might forgive each other."

I was surprised by Raven's explanation and he was right, maybe I should help Belphie after all.

"Wow, Raven. For a shape shifter hound, you're a smart little doggie," I told him with a grin before I ruffling his head.

"Hehe, thank you. So does that mean I get a treat?"

"You sure do, here you go, get the snack!" I told him before I tossed the dog treat to him and he caught it in time.

"Yummy," Raven mumbled before licking his lips.

"You're welcome," I spoke with a smile before petting his head.

After that little talk, I knew exactly what I was going to do now.

Later on that day...

I got to the attic room and Belphie was at the door and he was smirking at me.

"Well, this certainly is unexpected. It's only been a day, and already you're back. I thought you it would be longer before you returned, if you ever did at all after what you told me."

"Well, I'm back now."

"So, I take it you decided to help me?" Belphie asked me.

"Yes."

"I have to wonder, through. What was it that changed your mind?"

"I didn't come back here just to help you. I still don't trust you after you lied to me. I'm only doing this for Beelzebud and nothing else."

"For Beel? I see..." Belphie mumbled.

"Well, no matter what your reason is, this works out well for me. So I'm fine with it," Belphie spoke with a smile.

"But, I'll say this as many times as I have to, because it's important. You can't tell my brothers anything about this. They have to keep believing that I'm up in the human world as an exchange student. Now, if you've got that, go ahead and go back to your room."

"Fine, but, just so we're clear; if you ever deceive me again, you can forget about my help and I don't care if you rot in here for all etnerity."

"Fair enough. I promise I won't do anything like that again."

"Whatever..." I mumbled before I turned my back towards him.

"Wait," He called out to me before turned to look at him again. "There's something important I still haven't said."

"What is it?"

"I really do appreciate your help. Honestly. If you hadn't shown up, I would've been trapped up here for who knows how long. So I want you to know I'm grateful. Thank you, (Y/n)."

I blushed a little when he told me this and then I gave him a small smile.

"You're welcome."

I headed down stairs and I headed back to Beel's room. I just hope with me helping Belphie doesn't come back to bite me.
