Chapter 17

READER'S POV

Once I got to Beel's room, I saw two bed one has orange-red sheets and the other has purple and the wall paper is also a match as well.

I decided to pick the bed on the right and I was about to sit down until Beel stopped me.

"Not there!"

I stood up from the bed and I asked him.

"What's wrong, Beel?"

"Nothing, except...use my bed. It's the one on the left."

"Okay...? any particular reason why you didn't want me sleeping on the bed on the right?" I asked him as I sat my bag on the bed.

"Just don't use it okay?"

"All right but, where will you sleep?"

"I'll sleep on the couch."

"Why?" I asked him as I sat down on the bed.

Beel was silent for a moment and I think I saw a hint of sadness in his eyes.

"The on the right is my twin brother's."

My eyes widen in shock when Beel mentioned his brother.

"His name is Belphegor. He's in the human world right now as an exchange student."

"I didn't know you have a twin brother," I spoke with a small smile on my face.

"Yeah. We don't look alike though. Actually, we're total opposites," Beel smiled back.

"So, why is Belphie in the human world as an exchange student? I mean, won't he get lonely and homesick from everything he knows and loves especially his twin brother?" I asked Beel after he loses that smile.

"...Belphie had a falling out with Lucifer, so he was chosen to be an exchange student. Belphie didn't want to go, but he was forced. So, don't mention his name in front of Lucifer," Beel warned me.

"Okay I won't say anything but..." I trailed off as I stood up and I sat next to Beel on the couch. "Do you mind telling me more about Belphie?"

Beel looked hesitant for a moment but, he sighed a little before he told me about his twin.

"Even though we're twins, all that means is that our father made us at the same time. It's not like we're alike in any way. Still, Belphie and I always got along. We used to have a little sister, Lilith. So the three of us were always together: me, Belphie and Lilith. But that was a long time ago now."

"You guys have a sister? what is she like?" I asked him.

Beel looked away from me and I noticed he looked a little sad. I got the feeling that something must have happened to her.

"I don't fee like talking about her right now. When Belphie returns to the Devildom, you'll go back to the human world. Which means you two are never gonna meet each other."

I was right, Beel looks so sad when I asked him about her but, when he mentioned Belphie, I suddenly got a hunch. That man in the attic knows Beel and I also have a feeling that he's not a human after all. I took a closer look at Beel and then he looked at me with a surprised look before frowning at me.

"What? why're you staring at me like that? I told you didn't I? Belphie and I are twins but, we don't look alike."

"Oh sorry, but, do you have a picture of him? I would like to see what he looks like."

"You know the portrait in the hall, right? I'm pretty sure there's a picture of him there."

We stood up from the couch and then we left the room. We walked through the hallways until we came across Belpie's portrait.

"See? Right there, that's Belphie."

My eyes widen when I saw his face and I was right, that man in the attic room is none other than Belphegor himself.

'I don't get it, if Beel and the others believe that their younger brother in the human world, then why did Lucifer lock him away in the attic. I gotta get to the bottom of this.'

"Is something wrong?" Beel asked me after I snapped out of my thoughts.

"Oh, it's nothing. I was just a little surprised that's all. You weren't kidding when you said that you two didn't look alike."

"Told you."

I chuckled a little when I saw that smile on his face. We got back to his room and I knew I had to be extra careful when I am sneaking out to see Belphie tonight.

"Oh that's right. Before I forget..." I spoke up before rummaging through my bag.

"What are you doing?" Beel asked me.

"I feel bad for not stopping Mammon sooner when he touched your custard so..." I trailed off before I brought out the snacks that I had brought with me and then Beel's eyes lit up. "I brought some midnight snacks to make up for it. So feel free to stuff your face."

"Arigato," Beel told me before he picked out the snacks he was going to eat. I also picked something to eat since I was hungry myself.

"Where did you get this from?" Beel asked me with some crisps in his mouth.

"I got it from my secret stash."

"Secret stash?"

"I knew you had a bottomless stomach and you're always looking for something to eat in the middle of the night so after discovering some loose boards in my room I used it to hide the chocolates, sweets and crisps but, don't even think about searching for it. Otherwise, there's going to be hell to pay," I warned Beel after telling him.

"Message received," Beel spoke with a smile on his face as we continued to have our snacks.

TIME SKIP...

While Beel was fast asleep on the couch, I quietly got out of bed and I put on my house robe and slipper boots before I sneaked out of the room. I peaked around the corner to make sure that no one was around before heading up the stairs that leads into the attic room.

"I knew there was something off about that guy when we first met him," Raven told me as he came out of my shadow.

"Same here, I had a feeling that guy was hiding something the moment we met. Claiming to be a human yeah right, I'm not that stupid enough to fall for that old trick."

"He almost had you as well didn't he?" Raven told me with a smirk.

"You make it sound like I did fell for his little act."

"Maybe you did."

"Raven, if you don't teasing me about that, there will no treats for you for a whole month."

Raven whimpered when I threatened him to take away his favourite snacks. We eventually got to the attic room and then Belphie greeted us.

"Ah, it's you. So how did it go? I trust you haven't forgotten what I told you? Have you managed to gain Beelzebud's trust somewhat?"

"Getting straight to the point are we?" I asked him with a frown which made Belphie looked at me with a confused look.

"You can cut the act, demon! I know who you are. You're Belphegor, aren't you?"

"Aww, so you've already figured me out, have you? Well, you're no fun at all," Belphie pouted.

"That's right, I'm Belphegor, Avatar of Sloth. And I'm the seventh demon living here in this building," Belphie spoke with a smirk.

I shook my head at him and I shouted.

"I knew it! I feckin' knew it! I knew there was something off about you and I was right."

"Don't blame me, blame yourself for being stupid enough to be fooled by me."

"Fooled by you? yeah right. After our first meeting, I had a feeling that you were hiding something from me and I also knew that Lucifer wouldn't be that stupid enough to lock away a human in here since there's an exchange program going on," I told Belphie with a frown.

"Heh, I take it back, I guess you're not as stupid as you look."

I growled angrily before he asked me.

"Anyway, how did you find out about me? did Beel tell you?"

"Yeah, he did. He told me that you two are twins and for some unknown reason, he and the others think that you're in the human world as an exchange student after your little falling out with Lucifer. Clearly, that's a lie since you're locked away in here."

"That's true, since he told you about me, that means he's starting to trust you. I'd loved to see the looks on their faces if they found out that Lucifer was actually keeping me up here in this filthy attic. Heh heh..."

I sweat dropped when I saw that evil look on his face.

'I don't trust that look.'

I thought to myself before Belphie said to me.

"So now you know the truth. I lied to you, sure. But, Lucifer did lock me in here. That's the truth."

"Since Lucifer you locked you in here, why don't you get your other brothers to help you out of there?" I asked him with my arms folded," I asked him.

"if that were possible, I would've done it long ago. Think about it. If my brothers learned about my current situation, what do you think they'd do? I'm sure they'd fly into a fit of rage and confront Lucifer about it. And if that happened it wouldn't be any ordinary family squabble. No, it might very well devolve into a war that would envelop the entire Devildom. If worst comes to worst, even the human world wouldn't be spared it's effects."

He has a good point, if Beel and the others knew that Lucifer locked Belphie in the attic room, that could spell trouble especially since one of the brothers is known as the Avatar of Wrath.

"I see your point. A Bloodbath is the last thing we need."

"Exactly, which is why I would like to find a peaceful resolution to all this. For Lucifer, the Devildom and for the human world as well. Personally, I'd like to be able to have a proper, face-to-face talk with Lucifer."

"But, you two had an argument and that usually means that one of you refuses to speak to each other until one of them apologises," I pointed out to Belphie.

"True but, it was a little misunderstanding. If I could just talk with him, he'd realise that was the case. I need to find some way to get out of here, find Lucifer and have a talk with him. That's all I want and that's the truth. You understand, right?"

I frowned when he told me this and I told him.

"After finding out your real identity, you can shove that plan where the sun-don't-shine. I've already had my fair share of demons and humans tricking me over the years and I am not about to let that happen again."

"Even so, it doesn't change the fact that everything I told you is the truth. You're the only person I can count on to help me now. If you reconsider and decide you want to help, come back here. I'll be waiting for you."

"Well, you're going to wait for a VERY long time because I am never helping a demon  until he or she stabs me in the back. I can't trust you, Belphegor. You've tricked me once and I won't let you do it again. See ya."

I told him before leaving the attic room and heading down the stairs. Raven came out of the shadows and he said to me.

"You did the right thing telling him off. There's no way you can trust him after this."

"I know. It's for the best we keep our distance from him for now on. I saw the way he was smirking about his brothers' reactions if they found out that he was locked away all this time. Something tells me that he's got an evil plan up his sleeve. Why else does he need my help?"

"True."

"Luke was right, I should never trust a demon."

"Hey!" Raven shouted at me which made me chuckled at his reaction before I crouched down and ruffling his fur.

"Except I trust you, Raven. My loyal and friendly companion."

Raven arched his neck as I scratched his neck and then his leg started twitching which meant I found his itchy spot.

However, this wasn't the last meeting with Belphie that I was having because the next day I ended up changing my mind.
