Chapter 14
READER'S POV
After Levi went on the rampage, he tried to attack me but, when I braced myself for the impact, nothing happened.
"I believe you were going to settle this via a QUIZ, weren't you? not through violence."
I moved my arms out of the way to see Lucifer having a hold of Levi's wrist and he was also in his demon form. I couldn't help but admire his black feathered wings while he scolded Levi.
"You're out of control, Levi."
"L...Lucifer..." Levi stuttered with a shocked look.
"Wh...?!" Mammon shouted in a shocked tone.
"Unbelievable! Just as Leviathan was about to strike, who should step in and stop him but, the one and only Lucifer himself! Simply incredible!" Asmo spoke in a shocked tone.
"I haven't seen you leap to someone's rescue like that in quite some time, Lucifer," Satan commented.
"*munch* *munch* munch*...*gag*...Ack...food...caught in throat..." Beel commented.
Lucifer released Levi and he told him.
"Levi, go back to your room and cool off."
Levi didn't say anything until Diavolo stepped in.
"Levi? you heard what he said, right?"
"...Yeah."
Levi mumbled as he left the room. I sighed in relief and I thought to myself.
'Holy crap...that was WAY too close...I thought I was goner...'
"What is it, Mammon? You look like you want to say something," Lucifer asked Mammon after staring at him for a while.
"...No. I don't wanna say nothin'."
"So, what're we going to do now? How are we supposed to have our competition without Levi?" Asmo asked.
"I guess this means the competition ends in a draw. Neither one of them won."
"I agree with Lord Diavolo on this one," I told them as I stood up from the ground while clutching my left wrist since I sprained it during the fall.
"Still, I have to say I find it surprising that you would go out of your way to just rescue a mere human, Lucifer. Very surprising...don't you agree Mammon?"
"Huh? why're ya askin me?"
"As the oldest, it is naturally my duty to clean up my younger siblings' messes," Lucifer commented while we remained silent.
TIME SKIP...
After that incident, we got back home and I headed back to my room and I got changed out of the uniform. I am now wearing a (f/c) hoodie, (f/n) t-shirt, (f/c) skinny jeans and converse shoes. Mammon came into my room after I got changed into my casual wear and he was helping me wrap a bandage around my wrist.
"So, ya made it out of that without being attacked, only to end up fallin' on your butt and sprainin' your wrist."
"Unfortunately, yes. I swear I can be so clumsy at times," I told him.
"You humans really are way less physically capable than us demons. That's because they don't eat enough and unlike us, they don't eat right things."
"Thanks for your sympathy, Beel," I spoke in a sarcastic tone.
"Yeah and can you stop tying everything back to food! Actually, why're you even here anyway? Seems to me that you've been spendin' an awful lot of time here ever since the night of the DVD marathon."
"Well, so have you," Beel fought back.
"He's got a point, you've left a phone charger here and tooth brush too," I commented with a smile.
"W...well that's because, uh...you know... I've gotta look after this human, don't I? it's my job..." Mammon mumbled as he tried to fix the bandage on my wrist.
"Mammon, you're doing a terrible job with those bandages," Beel spoke up after looking at the tangled mess on my wrist.
"Hey, shut up! I've never had to wrap someone's wrist before, okay? I don't know how it works! If you think I'm doing such a bad job why don't YOU do it, Beel!"
*munch* *chew* ...mm, nothing beats pizza for a midnight snack," Beel commented as he ate a slice of pizza that we ordered for dinner earlier.
"Dammit Beel, listen when I'm talking to you! Wait a minute...isn't that MY slice you've got there in your other hand?!" Mammon shouted with a frown.
"You know, I could really go for a soda right now. I'm going to go run to the kitchen."
"Make mine a cola if there is any!" I called out to him as he left the room.
"Got it!" Beel replied back.
"Hey Beel! You put down one of those slices you're holdin' right now! HEY!"
Beel didn't listen to him as he closed the door behind him. Mammon frowned and he said to me.
"Of all the... seriously, does that guy ever stop eatin'?! You'd better keep a close eye on your pizza, or he'll steal yours away next."
"Don't worry, I will," I told Mammon as he tightened the bandage on my wrist.
"Thanks," I told him with a smile as I rubbed it a few times.
"...Ah...um, by the way... There's somethin' I want you to know."
"What is it?" I asked Mammon.
"The next time your life's in danger. I'm gonna be the one to save you, all right? don't you forget that. And if I can't manage to save ya, then make sure you die, got it?!"
I sweat dropped when said this because here's me thinking that he was being nice to me for once but then he turns all sour again.
"Why would you say something like that?"
"I don't want no one else steppin' in and savin' you, all right?! It's me or no one, understand?!"
I blushed a little when he said this because no one else would do anything for me like that before especially since I used to be the outcast back in the orphanage. I smiled at Mammon and I told him.
"All right, got it."
"G-Good... Jeez, you should always just agree with me like that."
"Hehe, what tsun-tsun..." I mumbled.
"What did you just say?" Mammon asked me.
"Nothing."
Just then, one of our phones starting ringing. Mammon checked his phone and he said to me.
"That ain't my phone. It must be yours."
I picked my D.D.D and it was Levi. I answered the call.
"Hello?"
"Meet me down stairs in the planetarium, ASAP. I want to talk to you alone."
"Any particular reason?"
"Just meet here and don't bring anyone else with you."
Levi told me before he hung up. I stood up from the bed and then Mammon asked me.
"Where are you going?"
"Just for some fresh air, I'll be right back. Oh, and Mammon..." I stopped in tracks before I slowly turned to look at Mammon with a deadly glare in my eyes which scared him.
"If you even think about snooping around in my room and see if there's anything that you can sell, don't and I repeat, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! because if I find out that you took something from here, you're as good as dead."
Mammon gulped and he said to me.
"Yes ma'am."
I turned my back towards him before I left my room. I got the planetarium and I saw Levi standing there waiting for me.
"Finally, I've been waiting for you to show up."
"Sorry I took so long," I told him.
"When I call for you, you need to come right away, understand? Don't walk, run. I want you moving at light speed."
"Like when Henry races over whenever the Lord of shadows calls on him?" I asked him with a smile.
"Exactly, he comes riding up on the winged unicorn that he..."
"Won off of the Lord of Fools in a bet," we spoke in unison which made us both laugh.
Levi loses that smile before he spoke up.
"Don't get me wrong. I'm saying that you and I are best friends or anything. As if. So do you know why I called you here?"
"I had a little think about that, I was wondering if we can be friends?" I asked him with a smile.
"What?! Did you say friends? you and me...?! A-A-Are you...are you out of your mind?! you do know I tried to attack you, right? And that if Lucifer hadn't intervened, you'd be dead right now. You realise that, right?"
I looked at my wrist and I told him.
"Yeah I know but, can we forget about what happened and move on? start fresh as they say?" I asked him.
"..."
"If it makes you feel any better, I know a couple of songs from a few of my favourite anime series as well."
"Like what?"
I cleared my throat and then I sang a little of Monochrome Kiss from Black Butler.
In black and white no whisper of colour
In monochrome we met each other
I'll put my faith in my pain
In you to keep safe
The autumn wind is so unforgiving
Much like the scars that trace my body
Your icy touch I trust
I feel it's beckoning me
I was melting away and breaking
But then you tenderly saved me from myself
Fate is the game we're playing
And it all starts with the monochrome kiss
Nevertheless I'm searching on
Looking for a single drop of love
I look into your eyes
Eves that never once cried
They tell a tale beyond time
And if I can, I'll seek the end
Shrouded in my pain just as I am
Hiding within the night
Together we'll find it
Under the light of the moon
Levi looked at me with a shocked and an impressed look on his face.
"No way! that was Monochrome kiss from Black butler! how do you know that song?!"
"Hehe, I'm a bit of a musician. I sing cover songs including anime. Although it depends what instrument I'm playing as well."
"I was wondering who that was in the music room," Levi mumbled before he looked back at me.
"Anyway, as I was saying from before. You remember why we decided to have that competition in the first place? it was to see who the bigger TSL fan was. And I told you that if you won, I'd enter into a pact with you."
"Yeah, that's right. But, there was never a clear winner since...well...you know."
"Well, that trump card you pulled out was a real dirty trick but, a promise is a promise, after all. It really kills me to do this...it makes my stomach churn. But, I'll keep my end of the bargain. I'll do it. It'll make a pact with you," Levi spoke with a smile.
I was surprised when he said this and I smiled back at him.
"Thank you."
"Hmph..."
Finally, I made a pact with Levi and a new otaku friend to top it off.
"So, what's all this about, anyway?"
"Eh?" I looked at him with a confused look.
"There's something you're not telling me, isn't there? An Otkua human like you asking to make a pact with a demon like me? You must have some sort of ulterior motive."
"Okay....uh, don't get mad but, there was a reason behind this. I only did this because I wanted to ask you if I can borrow the copy of the TSL soundtrack."
"AHA! I knew it! I knew no one would actually WANT to make a pact with me. Not like this is surprising or anything."
"I'm sorry, but, if I hadn't done this you would have flat out refused anyway," I apologised to him but, Levi didn't look angry at all.
"It's fine, I don't know what you're planning on doing with my record but...just don't sell it, understand? You better give it back when you're done, is that clear? If you touch it, make sure to wipe off any fingerprints and no eating potato chips and stuff when you handle it. It's super, super rare, so you'd better not lose any of the inserts or the sleeve or anything!"
Levi told me as he handed over the vinyl edition of the TSL soundtrack.
"You got it, I'll make sure to take good care of this bad boy," I spoke with a smile.
'Now I can go and give this to Lucifer.'
I thought to myself as I left the planetarium. I got to Lucier's room and I was a little nervous about disturbing him but, I couldn't let my fear get the better of me. I took a deep breath before knocking on his door.
"The door's open. Come in."
I opened the door and I saw Lucifer sitting at his desk working on some paperwork.
"Ah, (Y/n), it's you." Today was quite the disaster, wasn't it?"
"Yeah, it was. I got the fright of life when Levi attacked me."
"Well, you should know, Levi's not normally like that. He may be a high-ranking demon, but he's quite harmless by nature. Try not to hold it against him."
"I won't."
"So, tell me, what brings you here at this hour?" Lucifer asked me.
"Well, I came here to say thanks for saving me back there and I wanted to give you something in return for helping me," I told him as I handed over the soundtrack to him.
Lucifer's eyes widen when he saw the vinyl.
"Wh...! Is that what I think it is?!" Lucifer asked me as he took the vinyl from me.
"So, this is why you wanted to make a pact with Levi. Do you realise what it is you've got here, what this represents?"
"No, not really. I thought it was just a soundtrack that you liked so much."
"I don't imagine you would. This isn't any ordinary soundtrack, you see. There's quite a history to it."
"There is?" I asked in a surprised tone.
"I don't have a particular interest in The Tale of the Seven Lords as a story. No... what interests me is the person who served as the first composer for the TSL movies."
"The composer?" I mumbled before he continued.
"You see, the composer I speak of is dead now. He killed himself. The final song he wrote before his death was meant to be used in the scene where the Lord of Corruption puts a curse on the heroes. But due to the composer comitting suicide, they decided not to use that track. They saved it, but they didn't release it to the public."
"If they didn't release it to the public then how come Levi was able to get his hands on this one?" I asked Lucifer with a curious look.
"A group of dieheard fans pooled their own funds and had a very limited number of vinyl editions produced. As you already have guessed, this record is one of the few that were created."
"Oh that explains it."
"The story doesn't end there. The people who were involved in it's creation, as well as every single person who owned a copy of it, ended up dying mysteriously. So, the people say the record itself was cursed. I heard that all of these had been destroyed. But all this time, Levi had a copy. I had no idea."
"That vinyl is cursed?!" I shouted in a shocked tone before backing away from it. "I can't believe I touched that thing!"
Lucifer chuckled at my reaction before he said to me.
"All right, I'll go ahead and take this. Still, I do appreciate you bringing me this to me. I think I'll spend tonight savouring every last note of this music here which means I probably won't be able to bring myself to leave my room tonight."
"Huh...you really like that soundtrack, don't you?" I asked him.
"You should know by now that we demons can't resist temptation. When there's something we really want staring at us in the face, we have to have it. That's simply how we are. Right now, what I want is to stay up all night listening to this record. I can't help it...I have to do it."
"Okay...in that case, I will leave you to it. Meanwhile, I'm gonna head back to my room. So, goodnight."
I was about to leave the room until Lucifer stopped me.
"(Y/n)."
"Yeah?" I turned to look him.
"Just because I won't there to guard the stairs that doesn't mean you're free to climb them to the attic. That place is off limits."
"Oh you don't need to worry about that, I won't even try it. Trust me, my lesson has been learnt," I spoke with a smile while crossing my fingers behind my back.
"Well then, good night."
"Good night."
I told him before leaving the room and closing the door behind him. On the way back, Raven came out of my shadow and then he sat on my shoulder.
"Sucker..."
Raven chuckled and he gave me a high five.
"Now that the elder brother is out of the way, time to go into the attic."
