{2} "I'm Everywhere"
It was the next day when you ran into Mephistopheles again.
He and Solomon (who you'd met earlier as the other human exchange student) were talking among themselves in the classroom. Both of them noticed your presence and they welcomed you into the conversation.
"Good morning, [your name], I see that you didn't have much trouble getting to class today." Solomon greeted.
"I saved a picture of the map of the academy on my D.D.D." You answered sheepishly. "I left the House of Lamentation early with Lucifer so I made sure that I'd get here."
"You don't use your pact with Mammon to help you find your way around here?" Solomon inquired, surprised.
You shook your head, "Nothing against the guy, but he doesn't seem all that reliable. He ditched me the first chance he had."
"Well I heard a rumour that you're already working on your second pact. With Leviathan, right?" Mephistopheles commented, amused with whatever your goals were.
"Yeah... how'd you know?" You asked, a bit shocked that news travelled so fast.
"I'm the President of the Newspaper Club, it's my job to know everything about this school and its students." Mephistopheles answered, pride almost radiating off of him. "Are you and Solomon in a competition for gathering pacts?" He asked, his D.D.D suddenly in his hand to take notes.
Shaking your head once again, you answered that you didn't intend on gathering many pacts, and assured that it was more of a coincidence more than anything.
"I think it would have been fun to have a bit of a competition, to see who has the most powerful demons." Solomon admitted, "Speaking of pacts, Mephistopheles, you haven't given me an answer about being in a pact with me."
Mephistopheles sighed as he put his D.D.D. into his pocket. "Sorry, Solomon, I don't much care for making pacts right now. I've been in a few that haven't ended well for the other person."
"I understand, but if you ever reconsider, just let me know." Solomon nodded, acknowledging Mephistopheles' hesitation.
Mephistopheles cleared his throat and changed the topic to avoid the conversation suffering through an awkward silence. "Oh, since we're in the same Demonology and Alchemy classes, I have to warn you about the professors, they are Grade-A Assholes, if you needed a summary. They always assign stupid amounts of assignments, the only redeemable quality is that they allow all of them to be group assignments. They're secretly dating due to their common interest of not caring too much, but caring at all about teaching."
You and Solomon chuckled.
"I am being serious, we need to support each other! Team Default!" Mephistopheles exclaimed.
"'Team Default'?" You repeated.
Mephistopheles nodded with determination, and Solomon explained once he realized the benefits that would come from the arrangement.
"That would be rather helpful, especially to [your name] and myself being new to the curriculum, and you've already taken these classes before. Though I'm not sure about the name."
A sheepish looked appeared on Mephistopheles' face, "My only creative talent is writing, not coming up with names. You two can take over that department."
You pondered for a moment about possible names for your little trio before you and the other two turned to the door, where Mammon had loudly ran to.
"There you are, human! You were supposed to wait for me! Lucifer will have my head if he thinks I'm slacking off with my duties." He whined as he walked towards your little group.
"I think that you're safe, Mammon." You attempted to reassure him. "I came with Lucifer earlier, so I'd have time to find where my classes are."
"Oh, well, next time you decide to leave me hanging, send me a text, then we won't run into any problems." Mammon glared at you, crossing his arms in front of his chest.
"No need to pout, Mammon, I'm surprised that you aren't happy that someone's doing your job for you." Mephistopheles remarked.
"Well, I deal with Lucifer's wrath on a daily basis, so excuse me for trying to save my ass." Mammon grumbled, shaking his head.
Despite Solomon having an amused look on a face, you noticed Mephistopheles' expression relate to one of understanding.
"My deepest condolences." Mephistopheles patted the shorter demon's shoulder, "Having experienced that unpleasant mess more than a few times, I sympathize with you."
"What did you do to make Lucifer angry?" You asked, intrigued to know more about both individuals.
Mephistopheles chuckled, "Oh, there's a long list of things, most of which were in good fun, just not to him."
"Like when you replaced all of his writing ink with some enchanted invisible ink!" Mammon laughed, "It was hilarious when he couldn't sign the contract to cancel my Goldie~! He has to wait another 100 years!"
"I only did it because he signed a petition to take the Newspaper Club computers out of the school budget. I thought it served him right, but he disagreed and decided to have my glasses enchanted. Everything was blurry for that month." Mephistopheles reminisced, shaking his head in amusement.
"Is that what ended up happening? That's pretty tame compared to what else he did to you." Mammon remarked.
Mephistopheles removed his glasses and looked at at them on his hands. "You can say that again." He said as he huffed a war breath on his lenses, them becoming clouded.
"Looks like others are coming in, we should take our seats." Solomon suggested at the sight of their classmates entering the classroom.
You all agreed and took to your seats, awaiting for class to begin.
