When Daegar was born, the only person of worth there to bare witness was his mother, Princess Selira, who pulled the squalling infant from the purchase between her legs and onto her chest. Breathing him in with little concern for the pain brought to her, entranced by the blessing delivered upon her on that storming night.

House Sargen was like any other house in regards to nobility and prowess, power bleeding from their name alone and enchanting anyone who had the pleasure of being graced by the royal family. Positioned high on a vast island logged within the middle of the Narrow Sea, decorated with wealth and political savvy, house Sargen had long since held the respect of many--whether ally or foe. However, no kingdom was safe from its rumors that fostered like the pus-riddled boils on an infected permanence. Tales of ancient magic were not unheard of, nor were they uncommon amongst some of the realm, and house Sargen was no different. Blessed by the gods, some would say, cursed said others. None the matter, as there was no shame in using these abilities to their advantage in times of need----or, ones in acts of vengeance.

During the reign of many Targaryen leaders, notably, the terror brought forth by Aegon "The Conqueror" and his sister-wives or The Cruel King himself, house Sargen had nearly faced the devastating end of their reign under the dragon's fist. Even with valiant revolts and bloody battles to follow, the war had left a great stain never to be forgotten. Despair such as that was never to be lost, anger was only to grow as house Targaryen did little to rectify their sins. Even as The Great King Jaehaerys himself sought to reinstate ties of allegiance, house Sargen never forgot.

Princess Selira, the eldest daughter of Lord Kaiuss Sargen and future heir, learned this well. After a humiliating slight by Jaegar Targaryen, the third son of the Targaryen line and her betrothed, with the princess of Casterly Rock that had left her with a nearly tarnished reputation, the young princess would begin to understand even more the pain the dragon imposed on her home. But house Sargen held the fury of a beast that lurked deep within the depths of the seas, the Kraken, a figure of legend to foolish nonbelievers, her house's Sigil stood proudly, as would she.

However, in life, a golden opportunity can always present itself. A meeting of the Great Council was summoned, to determine the next heir to the line of succession as none of the king's sons remained to take his place. And while an air of disappointment hung over the royal family, as King Jaehaerys neared the end of his reign and his grandson, Prince Viserys, was named heir, a plan had been set in motion since the very beginning. As if the gods had answered their prayers, a prince with locks of silver and eyes of violet was birthed into the world. Under the embrace of his mother and the steely gaze of his grandfather, a destiny was written in stone. This baby, Daegar Targaryen, the firstborn son of a Targaryen prince, held a prophecy etched into his blood. House Sargen never forgot a slight, especially one such as this, and they were determined to rectify it.

And what better way to do so ot
her than to tear apart their enemy from within?

🫀 me, going into hiding once this fic drops bc I never thought it would happen:

🫀but no, in all seriousness this fic was in the making for a long time, for many different reasons. one being because I was simply intimated by whole world that is asoiaf, I'm a casual watcher of the media involved in it but I fully diving into the world itself didn't seem like I would do, especially with how the fandom can be (I was scared of messing this story up bc I didn't properly understand the verse). While I haven't read any of the books, I have seen HOTD (which made me want to make this fic in the first place) and GOT, as well as have been looking up stuff if I need help so. Second reason this took so long was because shitpad has been a menace towards me whenever I try to edit any of my fics (I'm mobile user bc it's easier convenience)--from moving & deleting gifs,  constantly switching the font left and right, etc! It has been very stressful 😤. So bare with me please.

🫀 I've been toying around and figuring out what I want to do with this story and, have come to conclusion, it will be riddled with angst. May it have a different conclusion to the actual verse? Possibly yes, but it's still going to be sad. I feel like I should explain a few things--- so, in GRRM's verse, he has a very specific magic system. In this fic, I kind of created my own in some regards, while also connecting it to the in verse magic, if that makes sense? That being said, here's a quick run down of some important notes: House Sargen is one of my own making, obvs, but they are known to practice magic & sorcery. They were impacted heavily by the Targaryens, from Aegon I's conquest and Maegor the Cruel, mainly bc they resisted them for a large part.

This, along with many other things, has caused a soured relationship between them and the Targaryens (they're this house's number one hater...maybe after Dorne, as they should be). And essentially orchestrate a way to get back at them. Enter Daegar. Yeah so he's the son of a Sargen princess and the third son of Jaehaerys, Jaegar (an oc). Biologically? Who knows....

🫀 Daegar's essential role in my mind is to help aid in the fracturing of House Targaryen, as that's what he was created for (unbeknownst to him), and creates a lot of moral turmoil with him because there are a lot of complex feelings involved. My man's is going to go through an identity crisis, that drags along many. War crimes galore! Most of these characters are going to be morally complex and will do many things for their benefit or the benefit of their family, so some unreliable narratives may be seen.

🫀 You may have also noticed a few ocs who are from Dorne. This was intentional and will be explained later. I don't understand medieval terminology very well but for Nymor what I had in mind was, since he's a prince, he would go over to House Sargen as a ward (I think) until he becomes of age, as one does. In my head, I imagined him more so a knight and protector for Daegar during this time, and I'm not sure if that's realistically possible, but here it will be.

🫀 Lianna is the daughter of Corlys and Rhaenys, and since I think the show had Laenor and Laena being twins (if not then I imagined them as such), in this instance they shall be triplets. Lianna was born after Laenor, so she's the "middle" child and it will show. I also wanted to add more Velaryon ocs, especially ones who are black because, surprisingly, that's hard to fine since most Velaryon ocs are actually Strongs and Rhaenyra's kid, and I wanted to switch it up. Also, house Velaryon is done so dirty in the show (from being the supposedly richest house and nothing to show for it to having a majority black family and no variation in hairstyles; where are my black hairstyle!? especially since they live right by the sea!) But I digress.

🫀 Since this fic has multiple ocs, I was toying between two ideas: one, I would simply have it where it would shift from perspective to perspective when necessary or two, I would make separate stories for the other characters and have Daegar be the main focus here. One character, Florentina, will have her own solo series as she is going to be paired with Alicent. So what do you guys think/want?

🫀 This fic will be published during the month of Pride month and, what a coincidence, that it fits the theme pretty well. So, letting it be known now, polyamory is going to be a thing in this fic, primarily with Daegar and Lianna, my queen. If that's not something you're comfortable with, than this story isn't for you.

🫀 As mentioned above many of these characters will do things for their own gain or their families, so this book is not team green, nor team black, but it's own separate third thing. I am debating between what to refer to Daegar and his station, so I will let you all decide: team red, team violet, or team gold.

Disclaimer/: The world of asoiaf is very harsh and presents many themes that can be very triggering to some. As this book is set in this verse setting it will include, if not limited to, things such as incest, sexual situations, abuse, mentions of violence & sa, gore, and others. I will put any disclaimers before each chapter if a certain nature presents itself.
