Chapter 9
(I apologize for the kind of bad quality of the last chapter.)
(Hopefully this chapter is better.)
After playing several rounds of Tic tac tow with Alex, we finally decided to quit.
We were about a half an hour away from our destination, and Alex was drifting in out of conciousness.
Earlier he had stated how the anticipation had kept him up for the majority of the night, resulting in him feeling a bit drowsy.
Even though we were in the back, and were out of everyone's eye sight, I couldn't help but steal secret glances at the sleeping beauty.
His jawline could cut, and his messy quiff looked so soft, even with the product in it, the temptation to reach out and touch it was great.
I was scared that someone would turn around and see me staring at him, so I kept my glances short.
I bit my lip, looking out the window.
My eyes went wide as suddenly I felt a weight on my shoulder.
I turned my head quickly to see Alex leaned against me, his eyes closed, and his mouth open ever so slightly, as little noises escaped him in his sleep.
I sat very still, not wanting to wake his sleeping figure.
I kept my hands folded gently in my lap.
Before I knew it, Nick was parking the van, and we were getting out at a venue, which the boys were scheduled to play at that night.
"We're here lads!" Nick cheered.
Nick climbed out, and so did Jamie, but when Alex didn't budge, I didn't know what to do.
Matt turned around, gazing back at me, and I made a weird face as he began to laugh.
"What's the hold up?" Nick's voice rang as he stuck his head into the van.
"Al's fallen asleep on yer' sister." Matt laughed.
Nick looked back to us and smiled while letting out a chuckle.
"Just wake'em up, he won't bite yer." Nick called out.
I nodded and looked down, shaking Al lightly with my hand.
"Alex, wake up, we're here."
He made a small noise and then began to stir, sitting up and stretching.
He looked around.
He then looked at me, rubbing his face, and he sent me a smile.
"You are comfortable." He chuckled.
"Thanks?" I laughed, "We're here." I said.
Matt and Nick hopped out, and then Alex nodded, standing up as much as he could in the van, and stepping out of the sliding door.
I followed after him, letting out a deep breath.
The venue wasn't too big, but it definitely was not small.
I was excited when we entered, and I heard their manager call to us, telling the boys that they had sold out the venue.
They mumbled some "Alright!" Cheers and High fived eachother.
I let out a laugh as I watched them celebrate.
The manager took the band and they began to walk around. I seperated from them, looking around the venue, myself.
I scoped out where every bathroom was, every exit, random rooms, crew doors, and eventually I made my way backstage.
I found the band in a green room in the back.
"There yer are, I was wondering where you got off to." Nick called as I walked over to him.
"I was checking out the venue, its nice here!" I said.
He smiled.
"I'm glad." He said.
I looked around, unsure of what to do now.
As if he read my mind, Jamie spoke up, "We need to get our stuff out the back."
The boys nodded, and we went outside, finding the Roadies unloading equipment.
"Alright." The boys nodded as we uproached.
They began picking up amps and bringing them inside, I assumed that they were taking them all the way to the stage.
As Nick effortlessly picked up two smaller amps and carried them inside, I thought to myself, 'I could do that.'
I picked up an amp that was wider than me by quite a bit, I thought that I was fairly strong, though it was heavy.
I began to walk as normally as i could into the door, managing to carry it all the way to the stage, where Jamie came and took it off my hands.
As I walked back out I felt like I belonged here.
~ After all equipment has been set up, and initial sound check has been done.~
We all sat around, checking the clock.
It was 5 pm and the show was at 9.
"Well, I'm starved." Matt says.
We all looked at each other, all thinking the same thing.
"There's a resturant just down the block, should we pop out and get something before the gig?" Matt said, obviously determined to get food.
We all agreed and snuck out the back door, careful to make sure that the manager didn't see us.
Walking down the street was nice, the breeze was gentle, but still just enough to brush my hair around.
Arriving at the resturant, we stepped inside, instantly getting a large smell of fish and chips.
We all ended up ordering a basket, and making our way back to the venue after we had finished and paid.
Matt stuck his head in through the backstage door, and quickly retracted, whispering quickly, "The manager is walking around."
"One by one, we'll make a break for it, the dressing room door is just down the hall. Jamie, you go first, you're the tallest." He explained.
"What does that have to do with anything?!" Jamie whispered back.
"Because you'd be easiest to spot! And if management finds out that we dipped for nibbles, we'll get in trouble! Now go!" Matt whispered roughly back.
Jamie grumbled as he made his way to the front of the group, looking for a few seconds before finally dashing inside.
"Alright, Nick, you go next. Your hair can be spotted easily." Matt said, pushing Nick forward by the shoulder.
Nick flipped him off as he repeated Jamie's actions, making sure that the coast was clear before dashing in.
"Alright, I'm gonna go next, since I'm the handsomest, and could easily be spotted." He bragged.
"Yeah right!" I teased.
"Hush up!" He said back quickly.
I let out a giggle, and Alex who was standing beside me also let a chuckle escape his lips.
"Just go!" I finally said, mimicking his accent.
He waved me off and looked inside.
"Turn around, turn around... and..." He whispered before ducking in.
"Alright, just us then. Let's go!" Alex said.
We both approached the door, peeking inside. The manager was right by the dressing room door, and he was talking to another Roadie.
The manager wasn't looking at the Roadie while he was talking, he was looking at the ground, waving his hands about in whirly motions.
The Roadie suddenly looked up at us, and I retracted quickly, thinking it the right thing to do.
Alex wrapped an arm around my waist quickly, keeping me in place as if I had planned to run away.
"Distract him! Get, him, away, from, the, door!" Alex mouthed to the Roadie, motioning with his hand as if he was waving something away.
I looked in again and the Roadie nodded, grabbing the managers arm and motioning over to something as if it needed his attention.
Alex grabbed my hand and pulled me in the door, closing it before he dragged me down the corridor, looking down where the Roadie and Manager had disappeared, making sure that the coast was clear.
He tightened his grip on my hand as we quickly jogged the rest of the way to the door, entering it quickly before closing it.
We fell back against the door, and we quickly removed our hands from one anothers.
I didn't want to, but I suppose we had to.
All the other boys were staring at us.
"Close call." I said, eyes wide.
"Pretty close." Alex murmured, pushing himself off the door and walking over to the couch, taking a seat.
I looked over to Nick, and he pat the seat beside him, smiling over at me.
I happily hopped over to my brother, sitting next to him and leaning against him, resting my head on his shoulder.
He turned and planted a soft kiss on top my head.
"Are you excited for tonight, pip?" He asked.
"Excited?! I'm out to the moon! But you should be more excited, yeah? You're playing!" I laughed.
"I'm very excited!" He said, laughing.
"I'm also a little anxious." He said, leaning his head on top of mine as he sighed.
"A little?" I asked, wrapping an arm around his back.
"Okay, a lot." He said.
"Don't worry, Nick! You'll do proper well! I mean, all those times at the small venues and bars back at home, you played those and people loved it." I said.
He stayed quiet for a moment.
"You're the best bassist ever, and I know that you and all the boys will do amazing."
He backed up and smiled at me.
"What did I do to deserve a sister like you?" He said, giving me a tight hug.
I just smiled and hugged him back, excited for my brother and the beautiful band that sat before me, who were chatting and laughing gently, killing time.
