Chapter 66

A/N: Welcome Elouise warmly! I have always imagined her as a very delicate looking girl, and Elle Fanning is the closest to her in my mind!

I opened my front door, just to find Matty leaning against the frame.

For once, he was wearing plain pants and a large over sized sweater.

Probably something he took from George's closet.

He looked me up and down.

"Look at my girl," he cooed, reaching forward to place his hands on my cheeks.

I laughed, but there was a certain look in Matty's eyes that made me go quiet.

He shook his head lightly after looking over my face.

"You're all grown up, aren't you?"

I smiled weekly.

"I'd like to think so." I reply.

He stares at me for a moment before throwing an arm around my shoulder.

"Time's are a'changin." he says.

I can tell something is on his  mind, but I wont push it.

As soon as we get in his car, the vibe picks up.

"So, are you excited to meet Elouise?" he asks.

"I am, but I'm bloody nervous. What if we don't like each other?"

Matty scoffs.

"You will. You'll love each other. She's very quiet, but I swear something about her is mental. In a good way. She's really lovely." he says.

I nod, rubbing the palms of my hands on my jeans.

As we stand at Matty's front door, he turns to me, looking me over and fixing little stray hairs over dramatically, like a mum would do on a kids first day of grade school.

"Matty-" I say, pushing his hands away.

"Sorry!" he says, raising his arms defensively.

He stands there for a moment before glancing at my face once more.

"One thing?" he asks.

I stare into his puppy eyes for a second before groaning and turning towards him.

"Fine, go ahead." I said turning towards him fully.

Before I can even stop him, or process what's going on, he licks his thumbs and smooths out my eyebrows.

I smack his hand as he jumps away, laughing to himself.

"Oh, my actual god." I say, pulling the sleeves of my flannel forward to wipe off my face.

"What? They were everywhere, they needed to be smoothed down!"

"Then you tell ME! You don't swab your slobber all over my bloody face!" I say, trying to hold back a smile at his antics.

It makes me happy that someone feels close enough to me to pull little jokes like that.

He shoves my shoulder lightly and opens the door.

There's light chatter and music, I can hear Ross' voice ringing through the living room.

"He would not walk out on the floor! It was see through, it was glass, you could see straight through, and it took me holding his hand before he'd even step out but he was gone so quick!" Ross was laughing and I smiled as we entered the room.

The living room atmosphere was lovely, smiling faces, sodas and waters on the table.

I scanned the room as everyone greeted Matty and I and my eyes landed on the girl sitting next to Adam.

Her hair was blonde, she was definitely flawless, stunning.

She looked very shy and small, but she was so beautiful, the hearts on her red shirt, and her black skirt were all so aesthetically pleasing.

It's like the girls you see in fashion blogs on the internet.

I greeted everyone and then made my way over to Adam, who stood up along with the girl, a gentle hand resting on her lower back.

"Sarah, this is Elouise. Ellie, this is Sarah." he introduced.

She looked at me and smiled slightly, holding out her hand.

"It's nice to meet you." she said quietly.

I shook her hand and smiled, "You, too."

The introduction was a bit  awkward, but very soon after that, we found some common ground, and we spoke more and more.

Throughout the night, her shy demeanor turned into a bright one.

"So what do you do?" she turns to me after an hour into the hangout time.

"I work at a cafe not too far from here! It's within walking distance from here actually."

"A cafe! That's brilliant! You'll have to bring me there some time this week!" she smiled.

"Of course! I think you'd definitely fit in around here, plus we make wonderful coffee and tea." I smile back. "What do you do?" I inquire.

"I do a couple different things, actually... mainly I design slash do artwork, and I," she pauses, a slight blush coming to her cheeks. "I make some songs to put on the internet, so that's something," she laughs. "I'm trying to look for something outside the house to do, I've seen some flower shops near by that look lovely."

"Music! My, goodness. You'll have to show me some of your art sometime." I say, slightly excited.

Musicians really do stick together, don't they?

"If you take me to your cafe, I'll bring my portfolio!" she smiles brightly.

"I don't own the cafe! I just work there," I laugh along with her. "But I think that is definitely a deal."

Owning a cafe?

That actually sounds quite nice.

"I'm excited," she says, letting out another laugh as she covers her mouth with her hand.

"Me, too!" I reply.

You're doing great, Sarah.  I say to myself.

I'm proud of myself, and that's enough.

But... I can't help but wonder if he'd be proud, too.

I wonder.
