Chapter 63
I sat up on my bed at the loud sound of my phone ringing.
"Hello?" I said into the phone.
"Good morning, is this Ms. Sarah O'Malley?" A woman's voice rang through.
"Yes, this is she!" I reply.
"Well, Ms. O'Malley, this is Gwen Ayoade from the café you applied at a few days ago."
"Oh! Good morning Ms. Ayoade! May I ask why you are calling?" I wonder, pushing my hair behind my ear nervously.
"I've called to tell you that you've got the job."
My eyes went wide.
"O-Oh my god, thank you so much!" I smile, waving my hand up and down lightly.
"You're welcome," I hear her laugh. "You start on Monday. 8 am. Is that alright?" she asks.
"That is more than alright, Ms. Ayoade! Thank you so much!" I respond.
"I'll see you then, Sarah."
"Thank you, again!"
"I look forward to it!" She says.
"Me, too! Bye!"
"Bye-Bye."
She then hung up.
I stared at my wall for a moment, and then grabbed my pillow, screaming into it out of excitement.
This was the first step.
I was doing it!
I just got hired at my first actual job!
I pulled up Nick's contact in my phone.
'NICK!' I texted.
He answered soon after.
'WHAT?' he responded.
'GUESS WHAT' I sent.
'WHAT' he responded.
'I GOT THE JOB!!!'
'SARAH! THAT'S AWESOME!'
'THANK YOU!!!'
I set my phone down and got dressed.
After I tell my parents, I'm calling Matty.
~~~
"Hello?" a tired voice rang through the phone.
"Matty!"
"Sarah, love. What's up." He said.
"Are you busy?" I asked.
"Ehm, not really, why?" he asked.
"I need to tell you something!"
"Well come on over!" he replied.
~~~
It wasn't long before I had arrived at Matty's house, and told him of my new job.
It was after I'd told him about that, that I had figured out why he seemed slightly off.
I suppose him and George got into a bit of a spat, just before George had gone out of town for a bit, so he was a little shaken up about the whole thing.
I offered to watch him for a while, so I walked us to the store to get some snacks and we hunkered down in his apartment, watching nonsense films and music videos that we loved, and it helped him feel better.
After a while of this, him and I began to brainstorm about the future.
I took in a spoonful of ice cream before looking at him.
"I have to move out of my parents house for a start."
Matty nodded, pushing his curls away from his eyes.
He took a bite of ice cream, looking off, eyes squinted in thought.
"I don't think I'd make enough to live on my own, and I don't really want to live alone, either. Not with my past, anyways." I said, gently stabbing the ice cream with my spoon.
After a few seconds, Matty's eyes went wide and his spoon flew out of his mouth.
"Adam's girlfriend is moving up here!" he shouted.
"That's brilliant! But, isn't she going to live with Adam?"
Matty shook his head, wiping his spoon off on his pants before going in for another scoop of the dairy desert.
"They don't think that they're ready for that yet, so she's going to be renting a flat, but she was going to get a flat mate to cut down on costs." he explained.
"That sounds perfect! I hope we get along!"
"You definitely will. She's one of the nicest girls that I've ever met besides you." he says.
"Cheers," I laughed, getting another scoop at the same time as him. "Here's to your genius, and to knew adventures." I said, holding up my spoon.
He clinked his spoon against mine and we laughed as we continued to eat the sweet treat.
This was going to be one crazy ride, but it was something that I figured I was ready for.
I was of legal age, and I was out of school.
I had more friends now then I ever have before, which means that I have plenty of people to support me and stand by my side from now on.
I honestly couldn't wait.
But I also couldn't help but wonder how Alex was.
He'd been gone for such a short amount of time, and I missed him dearly, even if he wasn't mine anymore.
I hope he is doing well, whatever he's doing, and I hope that the people that are taking care of him are being nice to him.
I looked out the window and smiled at the sky.
It's a good day.
