Chapter 59
"Here you go..." Nick said, setting the hot chocolate down in front of me as he sat at the table.
We were outside at a coffee shop.
Morrissey played softly in the background as we tapped our feet.
"Thanks."
"Don't worry about it. So what's up?" he asked.
I looked around before bringing my attention back to Nick.
"Alex has been acting a little-" I wasn't sure how to say it.
"Weird, lately?" Nick finished for me.
I nodded.
"Yeah."
"I've noticed, too." he said.
"Has he said anything? At all? To anyone?" I ask.
Nick shook his head.
"No. But if I know Alex, he's up to somethin'."
"You think?" I wondered.
"Yeah. Which means it cant end well. When he gets paranoid about somethin' he goes crazy over it."
I sipped my hot chocolate.
"Do you think he'll tell me if I pry enough?" I ask.
"It's hard to tell." he said, taking a sip of his coffee.
"As far as I know, no one has tried to pry at him, yet."
"Well..."
Nick raised his eyebrows.
"Spill."
After I explained the whole thing that had happened before I called him yesterday, he took a few seconds to take it all in.
Those few seconds turned into a few minutes.
He was beginning to scare me with the odd look on his face.
"Sarah," he finally broke the silence.
"Yeah?" I asked, scooting in a bit.
"You know that I'm your brother, right?" he asked.
"Yeah..."
"And you know that I wouldn't suggest or do anything that I didn't think would work out well in the end?"
"Yeah..."
"And you know that I love you, right?"
"Yes."
He nodded.
"Good."
"Why?"
"Sarah-" he turned his gaze downward.
"I have an idea, alright? But I need more time to think about it before I say anything."
I nodded.
"I understand."
"Thanks." he said.
I just nodded again.
"O'Malley!" a gruff voice rang out.
I looked up to see a tall man with shoulder length black hair.
His eyes were coated with make up, and his outfit was insanely well planned out.
His blue and yellow shirt accompanied with his golden necklace, tight pants and fancy shoes definitely made him scream 'I'm a rock star!'
Nick turned around to gaze at the man as he approached.
"Well I'll be damned!" Nick exclaimed.
He stood up and hugged the man and then when they parted, Nick gestured to me.
"This is my sister Sarah, Sarah, this is Luke Spiller." he introduced me.
I held out my hand.
"Oh, come on. Give us a hug, love." he spoke suavely.
I stood up and smiled genuinely as he pulled me into a tight hug, rocking us back and forth.
"Your brother here is one of the best men I've ever met." He said to me, full eye contact with his hand on my shoulder.
He was charming, I had to admit.
"And I'm sure his sister is just the same." he winked.
My smile grew wider.
"Do you want to join us?" Nick offered.
"Oh, sure. I put me order in at the front desk." he said, grabbing an empty chair form a near by table and sitting own in it.
Everything about him certainly made me believe that he was a front man.
He sat back, legs open, arms spread on the arms of the chair with a charming grin.
"So, what brings you from Bristol?"
"Ah, just got back from a gig in America, mate."
"No shit?" Nick asked.
"How did that go, then?" Nick continued.
"Oh, fuckin' brilliant," he began.
Even his language told me that this man loved rock n' roll.
"Me and the boys got up to right parties, it was a music festival, and I didn't even go benny, you know what I mean? Everyone was fuckin' cool."
I tilted my head a little bit.
He turned to look at me.
He had big eyes.
"I didn't go benny, it means I didn't lose me temper." he explained quickly.
"How did you know that I was thinkin' that?" I asked.
"I always know." he winked.
"Ah." I said, sipping from my drink.
I liked him.
He hadn't mentioned anything about Women or drinking or smoking yet, but I'm sure sort of by looking at him, that he seems like the type to be into all of that stuff.
Regardless, I liked the way he was.
He reminded me of someone.
As he talked on about his bands gig in America, I stared at him, carefully taking in the details of his face and movements, trying to figure out who he reminded me of.
After quite a few minutes, it dawned on me.
"Freddie Mercury," I accidentally said aloud.
He stopped and looked at me.
"Pardon?"
"Sorry, that's- I was trying to figure out who you reminded me of, and its Freddie Mercury." I explained, slightly embarrassed that I interrupted what he was saying.
"Oh, no." Nick mumbled.
"I fuckin' love you." he said, scooting to me and throwing an arm around me, pulling me into his side.
"Nick, I fuckin' love her." he said, bringing his hand around to squish the side of my face against his.
"What?" I asked, looking at Nick who was shaking his head fondly.
"Luke's favorite band is Queen. He idolizes Freddie. You probably just gave him the biggest compliment in the world." Nick explains.
"Oh," I smile as backs up a bit, but keeps his arm around my shoulders.
"And," he says, quieting down and using his index finger to stress his point. "You said it, without even knowing that my favorite is Queen. Which makes it even better." he said.
"How's that?" I asked.
"I've had many people try and kiss my arse by sayin' stuff like that. But you said it without knowin', I feel like a million bucks." he explained.
"I'm glad." I chuckled softly.
He parted from me and smiled, going back to his seat.
"You're lucky to have her as a sister. I'm jealous." he said, winking at me once more.
I smiled.
"I am lucky... So are you in town for long?" Nick asked.
"Nah, just a few days, We've uh, actually got a gig in two days flat." he said.
"Really?" Nick asked, happiness obvious in his eyes.
"Yeah, you want to come down? Bring the boys. And Sarah, of course." he offered.
"Hell, we'd love that. Just text me the info and we'll be there!"
"Right, then! I've got to pop off, but I'll see you then. And you, of course, love." he said winking at me one last time before he picked up his drink, and left the shop with a swagger in his step.
"What band does he sing for, again?" I asked Nick.
"The Struts."
