Chapter 48
"You alright?"
I folded my arms.
"You're a little... Pink in the cheeks." He teased.
"Alex!" I whined, covering my face.
He laughed.
I was sitting on his couch with him, in his pajamas.
Everything just smelt so strongly of him, and honestly it made me feel so warm inside, and happy.
Giddy, even.
It was nine am, and Alex was making complete sure that I was not feeling any type of sick before he took me home to change and then dropped me off with Van.
He was teasing me though, which, though I didn't like, was endearing.
I felt him scoot closer to me, and wrap his arms around me.
He exhaled, kissing my temple.
I sat still.
I leant my head against his neck.
After a moment or two, he backed up.
"Could we go in a bit?" I asked.
"Yeah." He nodded.
He got up, stretching.
"How do you feel?" He asks.
"So Much better than I did before." I said.
"Good." He smiled, holding a hand out to me.
I took it and he helped me stand.
"Come on then." He said, turning around.
"What?" I asked.
He was already dressed.
He motioned to his back.
"Hop on."
"You think you can carry me all the way home?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
He dropped his arms and glanced at me.
"Surely."
I let out a chuckle.
"You've done too much already." I said.
"Just," he waved me to him.
"Fine!" I laughed.
I hopped on his back, arms wrapping loosely around his neck as my legs went around his waist.
He grabbed the back of my knees.
I exhaled, resting my head on his shoulder.
"You smell good." I mumble mindlessly as he carries me to the door.
He chuckles deeply.
I shiver slightly.
The air wasn't that cold, but it was cold enough to send goosebumps creeping along my skin.
I held a bit tighter onto Alex.
"You alright?" He asks.
"Yeah." I reply.
We are at my home before I know it, and Alex keeps me on his back as he knocks on the door.
After a few moments, Mum opens the door, smiling widely at us.
"Hello dear! Hello, Alex, sweetheart." She moves aside.
She smiles but I see her eyebrow raise up slightly in suggestion.
He let's me down and we walk inside.
"So, are you two an item now?" Mum asks.
I turn a bright shade of red.
"Y-uh..." I pause, looking at Alex.
"Yes, we are." Alex says, pulling me to his side.
Mum looks between us for a moment.
A spark comes to her eyes.
"Finally!" She almost squeals.
Alex laughs and I feel a bit of relief.
"I've been waiting for this to happen forever." She says.
"I'm making cookies, would you two care for some milk and cookies?" Mum offers.
Alex nods eagerly.
"Yes, please." He says.
One thing that I learned about Alex was that he hardly ever turned down the offer of a cookie.
Even in the conversations that I've had with Penny in the past, she said he was always chipper when cookies were being made.
I smiled.
We followed mum into the kitchen, where the smell of cookies wafted through the air.
Chocolate chip.
No doubt about it.
Alex and I sat down on the kitchen isle, as mum poured two glasses of milk, setting them infront of us.
"So, my dears, whats the plan for today?" She asked, placing the cookies on a plate.
"I'm going to see Van today. I havent seen him in a while, so I thought catching up with him would be nice." I explain.
"Well, that sounds lovely. He's turned out to be a lovely boy, hasn't he?" Mum made a tsk noise. "Where has the time gone?" She asks, putting her hands on her hips.
"Tell him I said hello." She says, placing the plate infront of us.
"I will." I smile.
"I'm going to see if your father wants any cookies, he never leaves that bloody office!" She says, placing some more on another plate.
I laugh.
She smiles between Alex and I, a warm smile that is full of love and memories.
She leaves the room.
I glance over at Alex, and he has this child like twinkle in his eyes.
This innocent, excitement filled sparkle, that instantly makes him look like a young boy as he licks his lips.
I watch on fascination as his hand lifts, hovering over the cookies, searching for the perfect one, as anticipation overtakes his features.
I bite my lip to prevent myself from giggling.
He finally picks one up, and it becomes harder to hold in a giggle as he brings it to his mouth, taking a bite, satisfaction filling his features as he makes a noise of aprooval.
I even note that his legs swing a bit back and forth as he chews.
I cover my mouth with my hand, finally letting the giggles spill.
He looks at me with half the cookie in his mouth.
"Wha'?" He murmurs.
I let out another laugh.
"Wha'?" He repeats, beginning to giggle himself.
I shook my head, taking a note of my cookie.
"No, come on, what?" He laughed, hitting my arm gently.
"You're just... You look like such a boy." I said.
"What d'ya mean?" He asks.
"You're just cute. You have this... Child like wonder. You know?" I ask.
"Mm." He hums.
He nods and stuffs the cookie in his mouth.
"I can't help that I love cookies." He says.
"Who doesn't?" I laugh.
"Bad people." He says, nodding as he staring at nothing in particular.
I hit his arm and laughed and he looked up at me immediately, smiling gently.
"You got summat..." He says, pointing to the corner of his mouth, as he gazed down at my lips.
I wiped at my mouth.
"No, It's just," he leans a bit closer.
"There-" he says, pushing his face forward and pressing his lips to mine.
The warmth of his lips feels absolutely amazing.
It's a moment like this that I secretly pinch myself under the isle to make sure that this is real.
It is.
Oh, is it real.
When he backs up, his face remains a few inches from mine.
He smiles.
I smile back at him, a heat rushing to my cheeks.
He leans forward, pressing our foreheads together.
He closes his eyes, and in only a moment, I feel him slip the cookie from my hand as he eats it all in one go.
"Hey!" I exclaim, hitting his arm as he laughs.
I thoroughly enjoy the sight of his bright, joyus face.
