Chapter 37

I don't particularly recall drifting off, but eventually I did.

All I could do, even in my sleep, was replay the moment Alex kissed me, and I could feel that warmth on my lips.

I couldn't believe it.

When I woke up again, Alex was curled up, an uncomfortable look on his face.

He was still asleep, which surprised me because I would think an expression like that would take concious effort.

He was still pretty close to me, his arm around me, and his face by my neck, but he certainly looked like he'd moved a bit in the night.

I was a bit uncomfortable myself, being in jeans.

I didn't care though.

Suddenly, Alex whimpered, a sound I had not particularly heard, his face contorted into one of pain, and he curled up violently, holding his stomach.

"Shh, Shh, you're okay, I've got you..." I murmured, moving and stroking his hair away from his face.

It was a few seconds after this that he opened his tired, red eyes.

He looked at me, and he calmed a bit.

"Morning..." He said, his voice sounding horrible.

My features went heavy with sad.

"Morning..." I said.

He moved as if he were going to sir up, and I hopped off the bed, running infront of him.

"Alex, no!" I said as he tried to stand but stumbled forward.

I caught him, and he stared into my eyes with his wide ones as he shook.

"Down." I said, slowly sitting him down, and holding him up.

His shoulders were stronger than I thought that they would be, not that I doubted him, but i wasn't particularly concerned about that right now.

"Lay back down." I softly said.

He gripped onto my wrists with what little strength he had.

He gulped and nodded, and i helped him lay back down.

I then repeated Nicks actions from the other day, grabbing the glass of water, and lifting Alex's head a bit and letting him take a few slow sips.

When he was done, he laid his head back down and stared at the ceiling as he sighed.

I leant forward, and brushed my hand through his hair.

When I stopped, he looked at me.

"Keep doing that?" I asked.

He let a small chuckle fall past his lips.

"How did you know?" He asked.

"Just did." I shrugged.

Deja vu.

I got up, stretched, and walked back around to the other side of the bed, climbed on, and sat back against the headboard.

I wasn't completely sitting up, but I wasn't laying down.

Alex moved, wrapping an arm around my thighs as he laid his head on my stomach.

With one hand, my left one, I set it on his arm, and with my right one, I ran my fingers through my hair.

"I'm exhausted." He said.

"I know."

"Do you remember what happened yesterday?" I asked softly.

It was very quiet, and we were both comfortable.

At least, I hope he was.

"I remember..." The vibrations of his voice ran through Me.

"Let's see..."

"I remember seeing you, or, hearing your voice. I definitely remember hearing your voice... I remember... I remember vomiting and gripping your hand so hard that i might have hurt you. Did I?" He asked, raising his head a bit.

"No, no, I'm fine. Keep going."

He nodded, setting his head back down.

"I remember, you crying..." He brought his hand up a bit to where my shirt was lifted, exposing only a centimeter of skin. He ran his thumb over the skin and I felt goosebumps coat my skin.

Something about this moment felt so insanely intimate.

"I remember... Being carried by a tall, handsome bloke." I had to let out a chuckle.

"That was George. Quite tall, isn't he?" I snorted.

Alex chuckled.

"Yeah. How tall is he?" He asked.

"6'5." I replied.

"Where'd you meet a man like him?" He asked, tipping his head upward so he could look at me.

"Though my friend Matty.I was hanging with Him and George in the park that day." I explained.

"A boy named Matty?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.

I couldn't help but chuckle.

"His name is Matt. But he prefers Matty. He's a bit peculiar, but I like him." I said.

Alex eyed me.

"Is he your boyfriend or summat?"

"No!" I snorted, "but he did kiss me."

Alex choked on air.

"What?!" He spluttered.

"Calm down. George is his boyfriend." I said.

Alex closed his eyes and planted his face in my stomach.

"God damn." He said, resting against me again.

I chuckled, and continued to run my hand through his hair.

He gripped onto me with a bit of effort, and I felt his light trembles.

"Hey, hey, loosen up, I don't mind but you're shaking and I don't want you to wear yourself out." I commented.

He loosened his grip.

I loved the tightness of his grip, but I really didn't like the way he trembled.

"Okay... You're just keeping me grounded. I feel a bit spacey. Like I'm floating, but I want to be on the ground." He mumbled softly.

"Don't worry, I'll always be here. Even when I'm not, let's be honest, I'd probably come running at a call." I admit.

"Thank you, Sarah." He said, sleep coating his tone.

"No need to thank me."

I'll always protect the ones I love.
