Chapter 31

It had been a few days since we had gotten back, and to be honest, I spent most of it just trying to sleep.

My exhaustion seemed to hit me after I was relaxed and at home, resulting in me only getting up to eat food and go to the bathroom.

Today I felt much better though, as I picked up my phone and noticed a text from Nick.

'Hey pip, all of the boys and the girls are going to the park, if you want to come?'

'I'd love to! Which park, though?'

Nick was quick to respond.

'You know, the one that I took you to when you were younger'

'Libertine? Alright! It's kind of far away though, and... I dunno. Are you gonna pick us up or?'

'Of course! I'll send Turner to wait with you. He's still just up the street anyway.'

'Okay!' I reply.

I slipped on some dark blue jeans, my chucks, the tour shirt that Christine had made, and I slipped on a light jacket.

I brushed through my hair a bit.

"Sarah, dear! Alex is here!" I heard mum call.

"Okay!" I said.

I looked into my own blue eyes in the mirror for a moment.

I jogged down stairs and saw Alex sitting at the kitchen Isle, as my mum washed dishes.

"So dear, how was the tour?" She asked.

His eyes widened in attention, something that he did when he got excited.

"It was great! I loved every minute of it, and every show that we played. Its really shocking to see how many people want to see you." He explained.

I leant against the frame and smiled.

"Anything go wrong?" She asked.

Thank god her back was towards him, because his expression went dark.

"Thankfully no," he started but i took this as my cue to hop in on the conversation and help the struggling man.

"Hi!" I jumped in.

Mum turned to look at me for a moment.

"Hey, sweetie!" Then she turned back to the sink.

I looked at Alex and he looked relieved.

'Thank you.'

He mouthed.

I took my place next to him, nodding at him and giving him a small, understanding smile.

"Where are you two off to, then?" She asked.

"The park, mum. Nick and the boys are gonna come pick us up." I said.

"Which park?" She asked, drying her hands.

"Libertine." I smiled.

She turned around and raised her eyebrow as she smiled.

"That's your favorite park." She said.

"I know!" I cheered.

Alex looked between us with a bit of confusion.

"Ever since Sarah was a small girl, Nick would take her down to Libertine. They'd play there for hours." She explained.

"I remember, she even fell and scraped her knee once, and so I came down to pick them up, but she demanded that she be allowed to continue to play. She sniffled and sniffled, and when I was sure it was because her knee was hurting, She assured me it was because she didn't want to leave."

"Mum..." I dragged.

Alex had a small smile on his face.

"That sounds adorable. A tiny little Sarah, sitting on the floor. Pouting and sniffling. Tha knows." He smiled, looking at me.

"I didn't want to leave." I said.

Mum laughed.

As did Alex.

I felt a bit of heat rise to my cheeks.

"Sweetheart, you're blushing." Mum said.

"Awwh," Alex cooed, wrapping an arm around my waist and pulling me into him as he hugged me.

"What a lovely shade of red." He whispered.

Mum laughed.

"You two are cute." Mum said.

I burried my face into his neck.

I felt heat radiate around me.

"Well, you kids get cracking. I'm gonna put away these dishes and have a lay down."

"Okay. Love you, mum." I said as she walked around the isle and gave me a hug and a kiss.

"Love you too, sweetie." She said.

I stepped back and watched as Alex stood up and gave her a gentle hug.

She kissed his cheek, then patted it.

He smiled and we then left, and sat outside on the front step.

"It's a big park." I said, softly.

He looked at me.

"There are woods by it. Not, real woods... But a big thicket of trees. And there are secret passages and tall hedges and a playground and sidewalks and paths... There is even a tiny pond area..." I said, getting quiet towards the end.

My excitement made me loud for a moment.

There was no need to be loud, as Alex was right next to me, and looking at me..

"You'll have to show me." He replied.

I looked at him for a moment before I finally smiled.

"I will."

After a moment or two of silence, he finally broke it.

"When do you want me to teach you?" He asked.

"I'm free any day." I responded.

"How is tomorrow?" He asked.

"S-sure." I said.

He nodded.

"You're lucky." He laughed as he laid back on the porch, hands behind his head.

"How so?" I asked, laying back as well.

"Because The Alex Turner is going to teach me guitar?" I asked.

He laughed.

"No. I'm gonna teach you some special stuff." He said.

"Special stuff?" I asked.

"A song that I wrote. I'm gonna teach you how to play it because It's simple and soft."

"Why me?" I finally asked.

"What do you mean?" He asked.

"I mean, why teach me it? Is it a Monkeys song?"

"No..."

"Have the boys heard it?"

"No..."

"Why me?"

He stayed quiet.

"I trust you." He finally said.

"And you don't trust the others?"

"I do... But..."

I was making him nervous. He was stuttering.

"I don't know." He finally said, sitting up.

"It's okay," I said, sitting up.

"I was just curious is all."

He nodded and pulled a cig from his pocket.

"I already miss the tour." I said.

He let out a large puff of smoke.

"Me too." He laughed.

"I liked being so close to all of you." I said, kicking my foot out.

He nodded.

"I do sort of miss staying up late with you. You're good company, you are." I said.

"Me too."

"Speaking of, how has sleep been treating you?" He asked.

"Generously. What about you?"

"Alright."

I nod.

I bit my lip, contemplating my next words.

"Is that..." I was going to mention the AM thing, but decided against it.

"Hmm?"

"N-Nevermind..." I said.

He eyed me for a moment, but thankfully Nick pulled up before he could say anything.
