Chapter 27

After the boys had gotten up and dressed, as well as myself, we all went down stairs to get some breakfast.

We chose a large table, which had a view of the glass entrance doors of the hotel.

I stared out it for a bit as I watched cars and people pass by.

There'd be an occasional dog, and I'd jump and make a small squeal noise.

This caused everyone to look at me.

"Sorry, I saw a dog..." I said, turning back to the table.

I was sat between Van and Nick.

On the other side, infront of Van was Jamie, infront of me was Alex, and infront of Nick was Matt.

We had gathered our food and began eating.

As I picked and chewed at my pancake, I felt a kick against my ankle.

I let out a small sound, causing the table to look at me.

"Another dog." I covered quickly.

Everyone returned to their food and conversation and I put my head down, glancing upward.

I looked at Alex to see him smirking as he chewed and looked down at his food.

I squinted and smirked myself as i inched my foot forward.

I thought I felt his boot, so i kicked lightly and his eyes quickly looked up at me as he let out a chuckle.

I squinted at him.

I felt his foot kick mine again, a little rougher.

I immediately launched both my feet forward, capturing his leg between them as i wrapped my feet around his leg.

He tried to tug his leg away but I held on rather tight, making sure that he couldn't get it back.

He squint his eyes at me and I smirked, looking down and taking a bite of pancake.

As I swallowed the food, Alex reached under the table and grabbed my leg.

I jumped and let him go.

His cheeks puffed out as he held back laughter.

I kicked my foot forward but he moved his legs.

I had missed him.

"Could I bum a cig?" Van called put, catching everyone's attention.

"Here, mate." Jamie said, tossing him a fag.

"Sarah, come keep me company. Thought I saw a dog round about anyway." He said, standing up.

"Okay." I simply replied.

I looked over into Alex's eyes and sent him a look that said 'This isn't over, Turner.'

He smirked as he bit a piece of waffle.

I could have melted.

The look those deep brown eyes gave me.

That look ripped through my being in the best way possible.

I turned away and followed Van outside, a small smile still sitting on my lips as i looked around and took in the morning air.

Van lit his cig and took a puff of it as his blue eyes squinted, blocking some of the light from them.

"Where did you go last night?" He asked.

"I didn't go anywhere." I responded.

"But, you knocked on the door for me to let you in." He pointed out.

"I went to go see if the lobby had tea." I responded.

He looked into my eyes for a moment.

"I don't believe that." He said, dragging the cig.

I bit my lip, thinking.

"Alright, I went and sat outside for a while."

"On the balcony?"

"On the balcony."

"What, did you climb down the fire escape and come back through the front?" He asked.

I stood there.

"No, I..."

"I was awake, Sarah." He said.

"Just tell me where you went. I'm just curious." He said.

"I went to Alex's room! Okay?" I said loudly.

"That's what I thought." He chuckled, his crooked teeth becoming visible as he let out a chuckle.

I felt a heat rise to my cheeks.

"So, did something happen? You two are playing footsie under the table like a bunch of grade school kids." He pointed out.

"You noticed?" I asked, biting my lip.

To be honest, I didn't really expect less from Van. Not only was he sitting right next to me, he was also quite observant.

A real people person.

A proper extrovert.

He could enjoy a night in on his own or with a close mate or two, but he loved to party.

He loved to talk to people, and most of all... He loved performing.

He loved the way performing brought people together.

Complete strangers would come together as if they'd known one another for years because they both liked watching people perform.

It really was magical, when I thought about it.

It made me So greatful.

My brother would one day be The Nicholas O'Malley.

To me, he already was The Nick O'Malley.

My best mates were Matt Helders, Jamie Cook, and Alex Turner.

Also Van McCann. Though, his band only played around London for a long time, as I had learned.

Turns out, they had played in parking lots for free for many years.

Van told me a wonderful story of how he and his friends printed out their CD, went to a venue that Kasabian was playing at, laid their album on each car, and set up in the parking lot so that when the Kasabian show let out, the people would have music to hear.

He also told me how one day, they played a gig, and two years later, at another gig, two people came up to him, telling him that they had met at their gig those two years back and had fallen in love, and they'd been together ever since.

It was amazing, the power of music.

"Sarah?" He waved his hand infront of my face.

"Huh?" I looked back up at him.

"I said, of course I noticed. But you didnt answer my question." He pointed out.

"What question?" I askrd, confused.

"Did something happen between you two?" He asked, his eyes going wide.

"N-No! Yes? No! Not really... We just went into his room and laid on his bed and watched The Labyrinth... I mean, we technically cuddled... and... I think he kissed my cheek... but... I dunno!" I said, nervously stuttering.

Van chuckled and pulled me into a hug.

"You're too cute." He said.

"Shut up..." I said, hugging him for a second and then pushing him away.

His cig was coming close to an end, and he offered it to me.

"No thanks..." I said, shaking my head. "I dont smoke."

His eyes widened.

"Always the good girl, weren't we?" He chuckled, taking one more long drag, then stomping it out.

"Come on." He said, throwing an arm around me.

We walked inside and he looked down at me.

"How do you hang around those boys, and you don't smoke?" He asked.

"I just turned 18. Just Let me alone!" I laughed.

"Let you alone?" He asked.

"Let me alone!" I said.

"It's proper."

"Maybe in your head!" He laughed.

As we walked into diner, I looked over at the table, noticing that Alex had a solid stare set on me and Van.

My arm was wrapped around his back and I gripped Van's sweater, feeling a bit nervous.

We sat back down and he finally looked away.

He's just a ball of odd today, isn't he?
