Chapter 26

"So, why is she in our room?"

"She could sleep, so I invited her over to watch The Labyrinth and she conked out before Magic Dance." Alex's groggy, morning voice said softly.

I felt my hair being stroked, and I felt myself against a warm chest.

Arms wrapped around me.

"How did she get in? I hadn't heard the door last night." Jamie asked.

"Quiet down, you'll wake her up." Alex quickly said.

There were footsteps leading away, and then I felt Alex sigh, holding me a bit tighter.

"You're alright." He said, kissing the top of my head.

It felt like he was talking more to himself than me, though I don't know why he wouldn't be okay.

Then again...

Those phone calls...

Might have a bigger meaning.

I was, in actuality,quite awake.

It was nice to wake up in Alex's arms.

He was warm and soft, and he smelt amazing.

I began to shuffle a bit.

"Good morning, love." He said as I opened my eyes.

"Good morning, Alex." I replied, my voice quite small and quiet in It's tired state.

"What time is it?" I asked, rubbing my eyes.

"Around 7." He commented.

I groaned lightly.

I snuggled into him, feeling a little daring.

My face was in the crook of his neck, and I felt him gulp and tense up a bit.

I wrapped an arm around him, and he slowly relaxed.

He let out a breath which he seemed to be holding in and held me again.

"How did you sleep?" He asked.

"Pretty well, thanks. How about you?" I asked.

"Quite alright." He responded.

I sighed in response.

"You know how you call me soft?" I inquired.

"Yeah, what about it?" He asked.

"You're soft, too. And warm." I commented.

Honesty became me this morning.

Not the full truth would be allowed to escape my lips, though.

He chuckled, the sound reverberating about his chest.

"I'm glad." He said.

"Me too." I responded, closing my eyes as I felt sleep slowly begin to pull me down again.

When I awoke again it was because Alex was getting up, setting me down gently.

I heard his phone ringing, but kept a slow, steady pace in breathing, just to see if I could hear anything.

His phone stopped, and his voice sounded quietly. "Hello?"

There were small noises from the phone.

"Im sorry." He said.

"Shouldn't have hung up on you like that."

"Couldn't talk..."

"Well, I..." He stopped, sounding interupted.

"I said I was sorry, Am-"

"No," he said.

He got up quickly and i opened my eyes, watching him frantically pull the balcony doors open and shut them as he began to speak sparatically.

I sat up, and rubbed my eyes.

I suddenly felt like I was intruding.

It left a surge of panic to rush through me, so I got up, quickly making my way to the door just as Alex looked, and I left.

I walled over to our room, and knocked on the door.

A few minutes later, Van answered.

He stared at me with a curious face.

He then stepped aside, letting me in.

I walked in to see Nick still fast asleep, and Matt as well.

Jamie was sitting at the table, and it seemed that him and Van were playing cards.

The balcony doors were open an inch or so, and i felt almost sick thinking about walking over and listening further to Alex's conversation.

I resist the urge and walked over to the table with Van.

"Morning, boys." I said.

"Morning, Sare." Jamie smiled.

I walked over to him and gave him a hug, then gave Van a hug.

"These boys could sleep their lives away, couldn't they?" I commented, trying to take a bit of the awkward out of the air.

"They really could." Jamie laughed.

I walked over and plopped down next to Nick.

"Brother..." I said as I laid my back across his stomach.

My legs were on one side, my head on the other.

He didn't move.

"Brother!" I called.

When he didn't move again, I thought about poking his face, but before I knew it, Nick had sat up, and began tickling my stomach.

I burst out into a fit of giggles, instantly feeling better.

"S-Stop!" I squealed.

He stopped finally and pulled me into a tight hug.

He laughed and I loved seeing my brother smile.

His smile was wide.

His face scrunched up a bit and his eyes were full of life.

Being my brother, I'd seen him at his best and worst times.

I really loved him.

I did.

He finally let go and I sat next to him.

"One heck of a wake up." He commented, rubbing his eyes.

His brown curly hair was everywhere.

"I'll say." I responded.

Matt let out a loud snore and I couldn't believe that he had slept through all the noise that had just been made.

His mouth was open and he drooled slightly.

Me, Nick, Van, and Jamie all made eye contact after looking at the man and laughed.

After a few minutes, when things had calmed down, I had hopped off the bed and walked discreetly behind Van, peaking at his cards.

Whatever the boys were playing, it was an intense round.

I looked at Jamie while Van looked down, and Jamie looked up at me.

I put up a two and scratched my heart, nodding towards Van.

"Two of hearts." Jamie called out.

"Fuck!" Van cursed, tossing the card at Jamie.

"Two hearts that beat as one!" Matt called out as he sat up, sleep dripping from his words.

"Two of hearts!" I sang out, referencing the classic song by Stacey Q.

"I need you, I need you!" Matt finished.

I laughed so hard that I actually snorted.

I covered my mouth and Van turned around quickly.

"Did I just hear a snort?" He said, a wild smile on his face.

I just stood there, trying to contain my laughter with my hand.

"You snorted!" Van teased.

"Did not!" I giggled.

"Yes you did!" He got up and ran over to me.

"Yes you did! Yes you did!" He said, spinning me around.

"Shut up!" I laughed.

A knock came at our door and I pushed Van away, jogging up to it and opening it.

It was Alex. He looked a bit distressed.

He smiled at me.

"Come in, Mr.Turner!" I said fancily.

As I said it, something sparked in his eye and he seemed to perk up a bit.

He stepped in and said hello to everyone.

That was an interesting change in demeanor.
