Chapter 14
I had fallen asleep softly on the bed.
I hadn't even realized until I was woken up by a knock at the door, and Nick shouting, "I hope that's her!"
I opened my eyes and rubbed them, hoping that I didn't look too disgruntled.
I looked around and saw an attentive Nick walking towards the door, a laughing Matt and Alex watching the television, and an odd expressioned Jamie, uncomfortably shifting in his seat.
"Jane!"
"Nick!"
It went silent so I assumed that the pair was either snogging or hugging.
They came into the room fully, arms around one another.
Their smiles were wide, eyes lit as they stood together.
" 'Ello boys! Sarah." She greeted us all with a smile.
She was just short enough to fit under Nick's arm. She was skinny, and she had short, bouncy brown hair.
After a minute or two of chat, the sad looking Jamie spoke up.
"How is Christine?" He said.
Christine was, if I recalled correctly, Jamie's girlfriend.
"Dunno..." Jane shrugged and looked to the side. "Why don't you ask her yourself?" She said, a smile finding its way on her lips as we heard the door open.
A tall blonde stunner walked into the room.
Her blue eyes shone like the ocean, and she was pale. She was thin, and her jawline and cheek bones were well defined.
She didn't wear much make up, letting her natural beauty shine through.
Her bright teeth shone through her wide smile.
She wore a Stone Roses shirt, and her jeans were black and tight.
Jamie stood up immediately, surprise and joy overtaking his previously sad features.
"Christine." He said, as if she weren't actually there.
"Hello, love." She said, taking a few steps further into the room.
Jamie quickly ran to her, taking her in his arms.
They hugged for a few moments, then shared a sweet, short kiss.
A smile found its way onto my lips as I watched the two.
As I heard Jamie say before, Christine was a model, and had been gone for a few weeks prior to us leaving for tour.
The joy and warmth that radiated off of The two made me feel very joyus. It reminded me that not everyone and everything in the world is bad.
After their greeting, she went around and gave everyone a hug.
She started with Nick, moved to Matt, then to Alex, and then she walked over to me.
I stood up, feeling a tad short compared to her.
I was about 5'8, but she was certainly 5'10.
"Hello, whats your name?" She asked as she gave me a hug.
"I'm Sarah, Nick's sister. You must be Christine?" I asked.
"Lovely to meet you, Sarah! And yes, I am." She smiled brightly.
She looked to be about 19 or 20.
"I've heard so much about you." I smiled at her.
She let out a laugh, "Good things I hope."
"I've heard magnificent things about you from that one!" I laughed as well as i pointed at Jamie.
She laughed again and made her way back over to Jamie, hugging him tightly.
I could just hear her say softly, "I missed you so much."
They sat on the sofa and Nick and Jane sat at the small table.
I crawled to the end of The bed, laying on my stomach.
"Nick," I called.
He broke his gaze from Jane. "Yeah, pip?"
"Why don't you take Jane out around the town? We have quite a few hours before the show, and I think you two could do with a little alone time." I smiled, winking at them.
Jane smiled at me.
"Alright, yeah. That's a good idea, thanks pip."
"No problem, now go on! Get!" I said, waving them off.
They stood. "I'll call you lads later." Nick said, slipping his phone into his pocket.
"Hold on, me and Christine are gonna go out too." Jamie callled.
"See ya later." They called.
All four of them walked out the door, and I laid my head down on the bed.
I let out a content sigh and closed my eyes for a moment.
Id finally sat up after a few moments, and leant back on the headboard.
Suddenly, the sound of snores came from my left, and I looked to find Matt, out cold.
I held back a laugh and looked away, smiling.
A few more minutes had passed, and Alex arose from the bed, and stepped outside, sitting down on one of the chairs that was sitting there.
I could still see him, and he looked back, making eye contact with me and moving his head slightly, signalling for me to join him.
I looked at Matt and then I quickly and quietly made my way to the door, pausing when I saw Alex's sun aviators on the night table.
I bit my lip and grabbed them.
I stepped outside carefully.
"Close it," he said softly.
I closed it the majority of The way, leaving hardly a centimeter of space.
I sat down in the chair to his right, and I held up his sunglasses.
He squinted over at me.
"Oh," he started. "Thanks, love." He said, grabbing them and quickly putting them on.
He took out a cig, lighting it and taking long, slow puffs of it.
"Are you excited for tonight?" He asked in a somewhat strained voice, as he was blowing out smoke simultaneously.
I nodded. "Yeah, I don't think I'll ever not be excited.
He chuckled, shaking his head as he lowered it and smiled.
"That's good." He said.
I looked out at the sky.
"Id hope so." I said. It came out much softer than I thought it would.
I brought my knees up to my chest.
"What happened earlier?" His deep voice suddenly asked.
"What do you mean?" I asked, my eyes looking over at his shade covered ones.
I knew what he meant.
"You know what I mean."
I looked down, letting out an exhale.
"I just thought of last night, and it made me feel sick."
When he didn't say anything, or moved, I took it as my queue to explain more.
"I thought about how that happens to innocent girls, and even boys. How not everyone has an Alex to save them. They get taken out. Their lives get ruined. And all for nothing." I expanded.
"It just made me feel sick, and I just ducked into the bathroom before tears could show up." I said, quietly.
I felt shy about it.
"I'm glad that I was there." Was all that he said in return.
He brought the cig back up to his lips, and took a long drag.
"Is that why you called me out here?" I asked.
He looked over at me quickly.
"To ask me about that?"
"I called you out here because I wanted to sit with yer." He said.
"The opportunity to ask about earlier just happened to be there." He commented, taking another drag.
I felt a bit tense.
"Okay." Was all that I could really say.
What was there to say?
I hadn't even realized what i was saying next until it was too late to stop myself.
"If me brother and Jamie have girlfriends, why don't the lead singer and the drummer?" I asked.
He chuckled.
"Matt's got his eye on one. I'll find one eventually." He said without hesitation.
I thought I felt my heart shatter.
Hopefully he couldn't hear it as It's broken pieces smashed further against the ground.
He didn't say that it couldn't be me, but I knew that it wouldn't be.
I could feel it.
I still had a little hope, but it was minuscule.
Id really fallen for the man sitting infront of me.
"Your birthday is next week, isn't it?" He asked after minutes that felt like hours had passed.
"Yes." I replied softly.
"What do you want for your birthday?" He asked.
You.
"Nothing, don't get me anything." I sighed.
I didn't like putting people out of their way to buy me gifts.
Just being around me was enough.
I didn't want anyone to waste money on me.
It wasn't that i didn't appreciate every gift that i got, because I did, but I just never felt important enough to deserve gifts.
"Oh, come on. There must be something that you want." He said.
"I dunno." I said, resting my chin on my arms, which were folded ontop my knees.
"I'm not important enough for a gift." I mumbled, mostly to myself.
He leant forward and looked at me as if is just insulted him.
"You're plenty important. Especially for one gift." He said, his voice raised, slightly.
I gulped, and avoided his face.
"Id be happy just being around you lot." I shakily said.
"Alright." He sighed.
He mumbled something then, something that I couldn't quite understand.
We had changed the subject, speaking for an hour or two just about random things.
It was quite nice, actually.
