Chapter Five - Orientation Troubles Part 1
This week was orientation for NYU. I grabbed my things together, made a a snack then made my way downstairs. I waited outside for a few minutes before Dan joined me and we headed of together. We stopped off for some coffee.
"So? Have you spoken to Vanessa?" I ask
"No, she's the one out of line, she's the one who's gotta call me." he retorted as we made our way into the coffee shop.
"Dan, get over it already. After all these years you are finally going to the same school together." I rolled my eyes, though I couldn't really judge.
"I guess you're right. It's probably no the best idea to avoid one of the few people I actually know." he agreed
"It won't take you long to make new friends, you're awesome and liable and..."
"And it took me 2 years to make friends last time." he cut me off. I chuckled shaking my head at him.
"Well you got there and besides we're older now. Less private elite more every day kind. But Vanessa is your friend, best friend and since I became your girlfriend you're only one."
"You are both. This conversation reminds me before all the snogging and the un zipping of dresses after a polo match." We ordered our drinks
"Hey, sorry. Are you Dan Humphrey?" The girl behind us wondered
"Uh, yeah." he answered
"The Dan Humphrey who was published in the 20 under 20 of the New Yorker." The girl continued
"He was." I answered, she laughed slightly and moved forward to order her drink.
"I'm Katie. I'm not usually an eavesdropping stalker. It's just that I read your piece and it was amazing." she complimented. Dan slipped his arm around my waist. I knew that move, it was a security thing any time we talked to someone who the other might perceive as a 'threat' we slipped an arm around the others waste as to say, chill.
"What? Really? Wow that's....Thank You"
"Yeah, well at first I hated you because I also submitted but then I read it and I was like 'okay fine, I accept defeat at your hands, Dan Humphrey.' Anyway I have a writers group and we meet every week. We're meeting here at noon tomorrow. You should come."
"He will." I chime "Sorry, sorry. I'm Rose, Dan's girlfriend." I held out my hand she shook it.
-----------
We made our way towards campus talking about what just happened, when we bumped into Vanessa locking lips with someone.
"Hey." we greeted
"Hey. Scott, you remember Dan. This is his girlfriend Rose. Dan, Rose this is Scott." she introduced us
"Yeah, it's good to finally officially meet you." he shook our hands
"So you're dating now? Last I heard you were just friends." Dan wondered
"Yeah, you have to actually call to find out what's going on in my life." Well just just went from tense to awkward in a minute.
"Okay, I don't realise we were speaking."
"Rosie." I heard my name and I saw Blair getting out of the limo
"Blair!" I squealed running to hug her "You're finally here." I mumble. When we pulled away I was grinning.
"Come on let's go in." I pulled her towards the entrance
"Eww." she shivered but then she stopped us and turned to Dan and Vanessa "Let's make it clear from the start. We do not know each other here." she scowled at the others
"Dan I'll catch you up."
"Okay." he headed off and I helped Blair find her dorm. Once she was ready to make an attempt to be Queen that's when I left.
--------------
I was buying books for my course. A girl needs to be prepared but sometimes she not always is.
"Rosie, hi." I turned round sharply then took a couple of steps back. Georgina. "I'm so glad I ran into you."
"What and why are you here?"
"I enrolled in NYU. It was either this or Bible camp and well I didn't think i was that bad anymore to go back so I came here."
"Why are you talking to me, the last I remember is my brother putting me into hiding because your psycho." she looked down uncomfortably
"Okay, i deserved that. Rosie."
"Only my friends call me Rosie or my family you're neither." she nodded
"Rosalie. I'm not here to hurt you, I swear I just came to shop here and learn. I got my meds straightened out and I wanted to apologise to you for stuff that you can't even remember. But I hope that this can be a fresh start."
"Whatever you say."
"So I was hoping for a fresh start and who do I get army roommate. Blair Waldorf." she tells me
"What? And you haven't turned into flames, she must be losing her touch." I drawl turning my attention back to the books on the shelf.
"I mean I wish I had some other friends here you know?" she began fishing. I sigh and turn back to her.
"Georgina, I'm gonna be honest with you."
"That's all I want." I nodded
"I must have blocked you out for a reason, and then you come back into my life and you're trying to destroy Serena, you threaten my life that I was almost, almost sent away never to return. You got your life back on track, great. I'm happy for you but I'm not going to be nieve and put myself in your way, because from what I heard, it takes one slight thing to set you off. All I wanna do is go to college, spend time with my boyfriend and continue to build my future."
"Right, okay. I understand that. i just wanted to apologise."
"Apology accepted. Goodbye Georgina." I walked away to buy my books
