4: God Speed
It does not take long for word to return to Harry and Alexander regarding Adelaide's current whereabouts.
In fact, it was within the hour that several of Alexanders friends confirm that a new coven has established themselves on the outskirts of London in Bodiam Castle.
"Do we know how many?" Harry asks, wondering how many he'll have to kill in order to rescue Adelaide.
"Around ten to twelve," Alexander replies, "and that includes Jonathon and Sabinè."
Harry nodded as he contemplated the information.
"I'll have to take them out one by one until they're all dead," he says as he moves around the room.
"We can do this together-" Alexander starts.
"And I appreciate that more than you know," Harry cuts him off, "but this is something I have to do alone. Addie is already at risk, and I can't risk your life as well my dear friend."
Alexander opens his mouth to protest but Harry stops him again.
"I do not yet know what Sabinè truly wants, but I know it is not good...and as for Jonathon..." Harry pauses, "he clearly seeks revenge...and he will stop at nothing to have it."
Alexander shakes his head at Harry.
"I understand what you are saying," he replies, "I do not like it, but I understand it."
Harry walks over to Alexander and embraces his friend for a moment, the gravity of where he is about to go and what he is about to do hangs in the air.
For a fleeting moment, Harry realises it may all be in vain.
"Do not make me slap you," Alexander chuckles, "I expect to see both you and Adelaide back here when this is all said and done."
Harry pulls back, both men holding each other's forearms as they look at each other.
"I mean it," Alexander gives Harry's arms a shake to cement his words, "neither of you will die, I simply will not even entertain such a suggestion."
Harry nods silently in reply and walks to the front door, opening it up and stepping outside, inhaling the cool night air into his lungs, before turning and facing his long-time friend.
"God speed," Alexander says and in the blink of an eye, Harry is gone.
~~~~~~
He paces back and forth in the room, anger surging through him at the sudden and unexpected turn of events that has occurred.
The two men he had left behind to finish Harry off let slip that they did not kill him as ordered, but in fact had turned tail and ran when Harry began to rouse from the unconscious state the juniper put him in.
Seems the dosage was not nearly as strong as Jonathon had first anticipated.
Jonathon did not even bother to ask any more of them, he simply killed the two incompetent imbeciles then are there on the spot.
"Stop pacing, you're giving me a headache," a voice says from behind.
Jonathon turns around and glares.
"Vampires do not get headaches," he snaps.
"Well if we did, I'd be having one now I'm sure," Sabinè replies, rolling her eyes.
"He is meant to be dead," Jonathon seethes, "I give them one measly job to do and they fuck it up..." he throws his hands up in the air.
"Think of it as a little bump in the road," Sabinè says as she throws one leg up on the table before crossing her other one over it, "besides, finishing him off yourself would give you, how shall I say this, greater job satisfaction?" she smirks.
Little did Jonathon know that Sabinè had requested that Harry not be killed as she wants him still, after all these years, she still cannot resist him.
And if it cost the life of a couple of little followers, so be it.
Sabinè is never one to let anything or anyone stand in her way if she wants something.
And what Sabinè wants, Sabinè gets.
And she wants Harry.
Jonathon groans in response.
"Just...he is meant to be dead..." he sighs, a quietness to his voice that makes Sabinè's ears prick up.
"You are not afraid of him, are you?" she smirks, "is that was this is about?"
"Never!" Jonathon whirls around and moves to stand over Sabinè, anger taking over his features, "I can easily end his life and I intend to, do not call me a coward!"
"Back off or I'll snap you in two," Sabinè moves her foot and pushes it into Jonathon's stomach, "and I never mentioned the word coward, you did."
Jonathon's eyes begin to turn red and his fangs elongate as he glares at Sabinè.
"Oh, put them away," Sabinè scoffs, "save it for when Harry's here and you can kill him in front of Adelaide..." she trails off but then her eyes widen with a sudden idea.
"What?" Jonathon notices the look on Sabinè's face.
"You could have Adelaide kill Harry instead..." she says with a wicked grin on her face.
Jonathon looks at Sabinè like she has lost her mind.
"You have the power of mind persuasion, do you not..?" she says, letting her question hang in the air, an evil smirk on her face.
~~~~~~
The door to the cell opens causing Adelaide to sit up, fear begins to coarse through her body at what Jonathon might do to her.
Her fear only heightens when he appears in the doorway, entering before shutting the door behind him.
Adelaide says nothing, silently she moves herself across her bed so that her back sits against the wall.
"Relax sweetheart," Jonathon says as he pulls a chair into the middle of the room and sits himself down onto it, "I've come to apologise..."
Adelaide frowns in response, she has never known Jonathon to apologise for anything in his life.
No scratch that.
He did apologise when she was not quite lucid one night as he let his friends line up and take turns of having their way with her one after the other without her permission.
He apologised to his friends.
"You have come to let me go?" Adelaide asks.
"Goodness no," Jonathon smiles brightly at her, "actually, after what I have to share with you, I feel you shall want to remain here with me, where you belong my darling."
Adelaide frowns in confusion as she will never stay with Jonathon willingly.
Her heart belongs to Harry.
Everything that she is, belongs to Harry.
"See, I made a grave mistake in thinking that my men have killed Harry," he begins, much to Adelaide's relief.
Her Harry is alive.
"And I began to wonder, if you are the love of his life, as you believe you are, then why is he not here, saving you...?" Jonathon trails off, letting his words sink in, "I mean, I certainly would be if my love had been taken, and in a roundabout way, I have come to save you...from him."
Adelaide shakes her head in disgust.
"Harry will come for me, that much I know!" she spits back.
"Really?" Jonathon smirks, "unfortunately it seems I am to be the bearer of sad news for you darling," he pauses, "he will not be coming because he already seeks solace in the arms of another..."
"Lies!" Adelaide yells, "you are telling me lies!"
Jonathon shakes his head sadly at Adelaide.
"Then permit me to show you a vision..." he says before waving his arm in a casual motion.
Adelaide shrinks back as a white mist separates them and, in a moment, she sees a figure within it.
No.
She sees two.
They are naked, entwined in each other's arms as they writhe on a bed together, whispering, as their hands and mouths explore each other.
The vision soon becomes clearer and Adelaide can see that it is Harry.
Her stomach drops when she sees that the woman with Harry is not her.
It is Sabinè.
"No...no it is not true," she whispers, "you are making this up..."
The image disappears as quickly as Jonathon has made it appear.
"I ask you again Adelaide," Jonathon says with mock sadness, "why is he not here then?"
He stands up as Adelaide contemplates what Jonathon says, unaware he is now standing in front of her.
"He will come," she looks up at him, "he will come for me."
Jonathon smirks and waves his hand in front of her face, watching as her eyes glaze over.
"He does not love you, I am the one who love you," Jonathon says, his voice low and even, "he does not love you...I am the one who love you..."
He steps back and regards Adelaide as she shakes her head as if her mind was just in a fog, before looking around the room and seeing Jonathon standing before her.
"Adelaide?" he speaks her name.
"He...he does not love me..." she says.
"Who?" Jonathon asks, waiting anxiously for her reply.
"Harry," she replies, "he does not love me."
"And..?" he prompts her.
"You love me," she says, "you've always loved me."
"I do," Jonathon says, moving to sit next to Adelaide on her bed, "I love you very much...let me take care of you my darling," he says, taking her hand in his, "you do not love this Harry, it is me you love."
Adelaide stares at Jonathon.
"I do not love Harry," she says, "I love you."
~~~~~~
Harry stands on the banks, looking across the water and to the castle that currently holds his Adelaide prisoner.
His blood boils at the thought of her in there, held against her will, god knows what is happening to her.
How scared and frightened she must be, his darling Adelaide, all alone.
He cannot bear to think of it.
With his eyes red as blood, anger coursing through his veins, he takes off in flight to rescue his Nykin.
