Chapter 3: Brutal Betrayal.
Should you leave or stay in the basement?
"I would make some sort of threat to keep you down here...but I imagine you already get the gist. So; stay down here."
Sally's words echoed in the back of your brain and you decided to at least wait until the stinging sensation in your mind had subsided.
"Is...anyone...here...?" A voice wobbled weakly; sounding on the verge of tears.
"Down here!" You called quietly, trying not to alert Sally.
"(Y/n)!" Meg sighed in relief and you shared a hug quickly.
"Did Jake and Dwight find you?" You asked hopefully but she shook her head.
"No. They were looking for me?" She questioned timidly and you nodded.
"We have to go find them." Meg commanded forcefully and you bit your lip.
"What?" She inquired confused after a few seconds of silence.
"It's just...Sally didn't want me to leave the basement and I don't know what she'll do if she finds out I'm gone. She shoved my head into a wall to knock me out." You explained embarrassedly.
"She didn't try to immediately kill you?" Meg asked doubtfully and you told her about the encounter with Nea.
"Why are the rest of us filth and not you?" She complained suspiciously as you shrugged.
"I have no idea." You sighed bemused.
"Well regardless...we have to escape." Meg shook her head and helped you stand up.
"(Y/n)! Are you okay?" She caught your shoulders as a dizzy spell made your legs give way.
"F-Fine. Just feeling a bit nauseated." You replied faintly, and felt better when she wrapped a hand around your waist.
"Don't worry, it'll pass." She smiled comfortingly and lead you out of the basement.
"Let's find the others and regroup." Meg thought aloud.
You staggered out of the asylum with Meg supporting you.
More violent screams could be heard.
"AGH!" Meg yelled as she bumped into someone.
"(Y/n)? Meg? Is it really you?" Claudette stumbled over her words as she clutched her side.
"You almost got us killed!" You snapped impatiently.
"I'm sorry. I-I don't know what I was thinking." She apologised regretfully and Meg nudged you.
"We can't trust her. But maybe she can come in useful." Meg whispered intuitively and you nodded.
"Okay. We need to find the others and get out - you think you can help us?" You answered annoyed.
Claudette nodded ruefully and joined your duo, turning it into a trio.
"Hey a chest!" Meg exclaimed brightly, running up and searching it.
"Would you look at that...This'll be handy." She marvelled and showed you all the red box with the white cross.
"There's a book in there too." Claudette pointed out softly, picking the leather-spine book up.
"It's a diary." You remarked, reading over her shoulder.
"Benedict Baker's Journal..." Claudette read the first page wonderingly.
"Maybe it can help us!" Meg exclaimed excitedly and you all began to read.
My name is Benedict Baker, and I've been investigating the mysterious murders happening in several places; the Macmillan Estate, Coldwind Farm, Autohaven Wreckers and now the Crotus Prenn Asylum.
Each has a monster, seven generators, seven hooks and two exit gates.
I've come to realise that behind each place, is a tragic tale and...the Entity.
The Entity is an unspeakable evil, but to survive you must completely focus on fixing five generators. Then, and only then can you open the doors and escape.
The Entity works almost...through the monsters, helps them to sacrifice the survivors.
Stay calm. Stay out of sight. Stay alive.
And always keep moving.
"Flick to the Asylum chapter." You instructed nervously as you all finished reading the first part.
"It's unfinished." Claudette remarked; confusion filling her features.
"That doesn't matter - there could be something to help us escape!" Meg bursted out irritatedly and moved to that chapter herself.
Crotus Prenn Asylum.
The Entity's already created a monster here, I miscalculated. I call her the Nurse, and I've already worked out how to avoid her.
She moves slightly slower than the average killer, and leaves a ghostly pale trail of white in her wake. As soon as you hear her scream, make a sharp turn to the left or right to avoid her teleportation attack.
The survivors I came here with are almost all dead as the Nurse tends to camp the area when she hooks somebody.
Now Altruism is important, but it's an important decision whether to give your life up for a person or to continue in the world of the living.
Sometimes, it's better to blend in with the environment instead of running.
And remember-
"I guess he didn't get to finish." You said gravely.
"The Nurse must've found him." Claudette assumed bitterly.
"Isn't she called Sally?" Meg asked and you shook your head.
"That's not Sally Smithson, not anymore." You sighed disappointedly as you scammed through the rest of the blank diary pages.
"Let's keep this. It can help us." You suggested mildly and yelped as Claudette snatched it out of your hands.
She teared all the pages and dropped it on the muddy floor nonchalantly.
"What the fuck Claudette?!" Meg hissed angrily and Claudette stood up straight.
"No one escapes death...and neither shall you." She whispered sternly and leapt at Meg.
"Get off me you NUTCASE!" Meg growled and struggled as Claudette tried to strangle her.
"Claudette stop!" You argued heatedly and pushed her off.
"We have to get away from her!" Meg warned worriedly.
"DON'T YOU LEAVE ME!" Claudette screamed harshly - probably alerting the Nurse - and Meg snapped.
"Leave us alone!" She bellowed furiously, picking up a sharp rock and plunging it into her neck.
Claudette gave a strangled sob as she tried to claw the rock out of her neck and fell to the floor.
"I hope you rot in hell you betraying selfish little bitch." Meg muttered darkly as you both watched crimson blood gush from Claudette's neck.
Claudette gave one final cry and fell silent; the life draining from her body.
