8:37 PM - SAY WHAT?
McSexy and SilverFox are standing a considerable distance away from the counter I'm hiding under--their conversation taking place in an uninhabited area of the nurses' station. By all accounts, the two men probably think they're talking in private. Silly men. They obviously don't understand a woman's impeccable listening abilities when a topic she's interested in is being discussed. As a preschool teacher, I've had lots of practice honing my listening skills. As a mom, I'm sure Bubbles has done the same. It's also worth mentioning the alcove the two men are standing in has incredible acoustics which plays right into the hands--or ears--of snoops.
I'm so proud of McSexy in this moment. His shoulders are back and his head's high. With hands firmly locked on his hips and chest wide open, he looks confident and unstoppable. Unfortunately, SilverFox doesn't seem remotely threatened by McSexy's posture of strength. In fact, I find the sneer on the Doc's face both concerning and scary.
"You're thanking me?" SilverFox questions. "She wants ME, and you're thankful?"
Without missing a beat, McSexy answers, "Yes."
Based on the interactions I've observed between these two men, I would expect SilverFox to throw down his superiority card and snub any further comments from McSexy. But he doesn't. His attention stays focused on the handsome nurse, face slightly twitching and eyes squinting as if carefully collecting his thoughts.
McSexy is unmoved--holding his ground. He has a flawless poker face. Unreadable. Fierce. The only hint of nervousness is the way he's fidgeting with a paper he just pulled off the printer.
Bubbles kicks me with her foot. I peer up at her between her knees, but she doesn't say a word. However, her eyes are like:
"I don't understand why you're thanking me," SilverFox questions again. "What's wrong with you?"
"Nothing," McSexy replies, shaking his head as he rolls the paper into a tube.
"I thought you loved Pam," the Doc states.
"I do," he admits. "But she's not my bungalow."
SilverFox chuckles in a mocking tone at McSexy's words. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"She doesn't feel like home."
Leaning in close to McSexy's face, SilverFox whispers, "She felt like home when I was thrusting deep inside her."
McSexy takes a deep breath. With steady calm and cool, he whispers back, "How nice for you."
Bubbles kicks me again with no words to back up her actions. The only thing I can detect from her body language is a slight head nod to the left--which is weird because all the action is happening on her right. Of course, her eyes are still like:
SilverFox's upper lip curls into a condescending smirk. "I pegged you as a quitter. I was right." After stabbing his sharp words into his victim, the surgeon turns to leave--but stops mid-rotation. He appears unraveled and unnerved. It's as though McSexy's reflection of unwavering strength doesn't match SilverFox's desired reaction of cowering defeat. Whipping back towards the nurse, he adds, "You must've never loved her if you're giving up so easy. That says a lot about your character."
McSexy crosses his arms in front of his chest and smiles. "An interesting observation--but I'm not sure it's me you're seeing."
Knife. Returned.
"I don't have time for this nonsense."
Before the surgeon abandons the conversation, McSexy reiterates, "In any case, thanks for the clarity."
SilverFox clenches his fists with subtle squeezes. As his breathing becomes more rapid, it makes him appear a tad unhinged.
"Let's make THIS clear," SilverFox says, emphasizing each word. "She wanted ME inside her instead of you. How crushing that must be for you as a man."
Bubbles taps me repeatedly with her foot--eyes on the verge of popping out of her head.
"As you see it," McSexy whispers with a smile.
"It's not how I see it," a woman's voice calls out.
Both McSexy and SilverFox snap their focus towards the counter, immediately ending Bubbles' flurry of foot taps.
"Imma?" The thick layer of smugness coating SilverFox just seconds earlier vanishes. Based on everyone's expressions, it would appear Imma heard every scandalous detail.
I hear her shoes walking around the counter to join the two men. Moments later, I get my first glimpse of the Home Series' famous author. Bubbles is right. Imma and SilverFox are an unlikely pair at first glance. She's not the Malibu Barbie you'd expect someone like him to be with. However, once her mouth opens--I, for one, start girl crushin'.
Standing directly in front of her husband with a gorgeous fake smile on her face, Imma says, "How validating to have your integrity define you as a man." Tapping her husband gently on the chest, she adds, "Of course--in your case--when I say integrity I mean dick. How validating to have your dick inside Pam."
Holding out her hand palm up, she touches the tips of her fingers as she continues to list off women--her smile fading with each name. "And Kira in pharmacy. And Carmen in accounting. And Kendra in pediatrics. And Miho at the front desk. And--." Imma punches SilverFox in the solar plexus, half knocking the wind out of him. Then through gritted teeth, she hisses, "My mother works here. You think I wouldn't find out? Loser!"
Silence.
Awkward silence. If I could hitch a ride on a hospital droid and sneak off to my examination room, I would.
We're frozen--Bubbles and I--like a pair of ice sculptures abandoned at the North Pole. I'm half hoping my bubbly friend will kick me again so I can determine if I'm permanently paralyzed or not. Is gossip'aralyzation a thing?
"Do you want to know how much of a loser you are?" Imma asks.
Yes, yes, yes, I chant inside my head. Me, me, me. I want to know, know, know!
Imma turns to McSexy and places her hand on his bicep with an air of compassion. "I'm sorry. had no idea you and Pam were dating. Seriously. I had no idea."
"It's not your fault," the handsome nurse replies, seemingly confused by Imma's need to apologize for her husband's behavior.
"No really," Imma insists. "I didn't know, and I'm sorry." Then turning to SilverFox, she adds, "If truth be told--Pamela finds you repulsive, my dearest husband. The ONLY reason she spread her legs for you is because she thought it would make me jealous."
Like a moth flying into a flame, SilverFox asks, "Why would she do that?"
"Because of our romantic liaison."
Say what?
Imma inhales deeply, tucking her hair behind her ears. Replastering a smile on her face, she sweetly says to her spouse, "Anyways--I'm about to wrap up my book tour. Did you read the series? Do you know how the story ends?"
Bubbles whispers to me, "I read it! I know how it ends!"
Besides raising a hand to cover his mouth, SilverFox barely moves. He appears defensive--in the process of cooking up a suave lie. Unfortunately, Imma's impatience disrupts the creation of the God's bullshit masterpiece.
"It ends without you!" she reveals. "Get your shit is out of my house before I return from New York."
"Our house," SilverFox snaps back.
"According to the prenup my father set up for us--it's MY house."
The average person would probably end the conversation here and wait for a more private moment to discuss details, but this is the second time SilverFox's God-like ego has been challenged in a span of mere minutes. Clearly his head must be short circuiting. The man's completely off his God game. "You think it's gonna be that easy?" he threatens--an evilness flickering in his glare. "You're not innocent, sweetheart."
"It's that easy," Imma counters sweetly. She turns her back to the surgeon and walks towards the exit, speaking without looking at him. "Daddy and I have been working on this separation looooong before Pamela. If you have any questions, direct them to my father's lawyers. They've been kind enough to assist you with any concerns you may have regarding this matter."
Jesus H Christ! I shout inside my mind. I hear crickets! Like in the movies when someone gets his ass handed to him! Crick--. Oh, wait--never mind. It's just medical bleeping stuff.
The Fox stares at McSexy, appearing as though he's about to assault the nurse with a final string of words--but doesn't. Gathering his unspoken last thoughts and the remains of his pride, SilverFox quietly disappears from the room. No one moves. The only thing stirring is the sound of Imma's heels fading in the distance at the end of the hall.
*****McSEXY BREAK*****
Welp--PamPam didn't choose you either, SilverFox.
The next chapter is a big one. It reveals the revelation I had about life while being treated at the Urgent Care--the reason why I wrote this story. In reality, this revelation happened while I was sitting alone in my examination room waiting for the Claritin to kick in. Unfortunately--THAT would've been a borefest for a story! Fortunately--there's this thing called fiction that enhances the entertainment value of real life. Hopefully you've enjoyed the fictional aspects of this story.
MUSIC: Karyn White. Secret Rendezvous. THIS is my freshman year. NOT the secret rendezvous'ing part, but the dance moves. The running man--OMG--it even has the running man!
Your vote is truly McAppreciated. Muah!
