Into the Dark

A few days later, Callie and Rukhar went out hunting again. They had Agent 3 keep an eye on Numi. However, being cooped up all day everyday gets boring, and Numi wanted to go out and do something.

Agent 3 picked her up and left the room, making sure Numi stayed secure. Music could be heard from afar, and Numi got excited.

"What's going on? I wanna see!" She said, energeticly. "Come on Melody I wanna see please?"

Agent 3 chuckled and went.

In the main room of the facility, a party of sorts was going on. One of the empty wall slots held a flashy DJ table, and a dragon was going to town playing music. Many people were dancing, and Jacopo could be seen shotgunning an entire gallon of hard alcohol, and then shaking it off like it was nothing.

"How does he do it..." Agent 3 wondered. Numi meanwhile, was far more interested in the DJ table. She kicked her legs in eagerness until 3 set her down. They stayed for a short while until 3 spotted Rago against a wall having a mental breakdown.

"Oh dear. I should help him out. Poor guy..." 3 thought, approaching him. In her distraction, she didn't realize she forgot Numi...

The party was actually winding down, though 3 didn't know because she hadn't been to one before. Numi, left alone, became nervous, until spotting bouncing lime green lights that looked like 3s tentacle. Numi ran to it, just to discover it was not 3, it was the discord table. She looked in awe at the pretty lights. It was also quieter in the table, which she found soothing. The final song ended, and the dragon inside exited, leaving Numi alone. She saw where he left, but was too preoccupied with all the buttons. But then she felt nauseous, as the room seemed to light up to a stupidly bright level.

Meanwhile.

"Deep breaths Rago. See? Music's over. Relax." 3 was trying to calm Rago down.

"I hate crowds... So noisy..." He mumbled.

"It's alright. C'mon, let's go somewhere less crowded." She started to lead Rago away.

"Hang on. Where's your pink and red hat?" Rago asked, after a moment.

"What hat... I don't... Oooooh shiiiiiit...." Agent 3 froze.

"Something wrong?" Rago asked, now concerned.

"That wasn't a hat, that was a curious child..." 3 whipped around, and saw the DJ table was gone, replaced with a wine dispenser.

"If she wandered in there, that means.... Oh nononononononono." 3 was panicking. "I don't have the license to use that! Do you?" She asked Rago.

"No... Sorry." He looked down.

"Jacopo! He was here just a..." 3 started to say.

Jacopo was gone.

"Oh god. We gotta find someone! C'mon, let's go!" 3 grabbed Ragos arm and took off running.

Still meanwhile

Callie stopped suddenly.

"What's wrong Cal?" Rukhar asked, worried.

"It's nothing, really." Callie said slowly. "I just feel like something is wrong."

"I'm sure it's ok. If you want to stop for a minute, that's fine." Rukhar patted her on the back.

"No, it's alright. You wanted 50 down today, right? They won't defeat themselves!" Callie smiled, brushing of her uncertainty.

And unbelievably, still meanwhile.

Numi sat up. "Owie..." She held her nose.

She looked up and saw the DJ table floating above her.

"Wha?" She was confused. She looked around in confusion. Everything was dark in the sky, and massive floodlights lit the ground she was sitting on.

"Where am I..." She wondered aloud.

No reply came.

She saw a box, looking somewhat like a phonebooth. She went to it and pushed it, hoping to get a reply. A screen came out when a chance touch brushed the sensor.

"Please state your name." The screen said, in a robotic tone.

"Uh, what?" Numi asked, bewildered.

"I'm sorry, 'Uh what' is not a valid name. Please state your name." The screen said.

"Numi." Numi said.

"Greeting Numi. I'm sorry, but you do not have a Void Storage Operation Lisence. Access to this terminal is this limited. What are you looking for today?" The screen lowered itself to her head level and presented a few options.

[Search for items]
[Request residence]
[Show map]
[Terminate]

"Where am I?" Numi asked.

The terminal stayed quiet.

Numi read the options, and touched the third one.

"Opening map... Please wait a moment..." The screen said. After about 10 seconds, a map appeared.

"Would you like a physical copy?" It asked.

Numi nodded. "Yes please." She said.

"Printing copy. Be warned, this copy is only valid for a maximum of 30 minutes as the Void Storage Unit moves around. "Never fear, however. Lit paths such as this one will never break apart, only rearrange themselves. Thank you, and have a nice day." The screen said, printing a copy of the map and turning off.

The map was hard to read, but it was in a language Numi could read, and had a very clear labeling system for key areas. Numi searched it for an exit. She didn't find one, but wasn't discouraged too easily.

She wandered for a while, eventually forgetting her fear in favor of wonder. Mountains of glittering gemstones and metals, hovering houses and machines, it was a scene from the imagination of a child. And she found it beautiful. Waterfalls of various liquids cascaded around her, making a soothing song.

Soon, she saw a door on a scrap heap label 'Exit'. She ran to it fervently.

She tripped over a chunk of metal.

She expected a sudden impact. But it took longer than it would have.

A nasty squelching sound was heard as Numi faceplanted into a huge slew of sticky gelatin. She was stuck, and began flailing around in a panic.

"Help! Someone help!" She cried in fear.

No one came.

...

Numi sank deeper into the slime.

...someone came.

A clawed mechanical hand reached into the slime, and with only minor difficulty, pulled Numi out.

The owner of the hand examined her thoroughly.

"You aren't like the others... What are you doing here little one? I've never seen anything like you before..." It asked.

Numi coughed out some slime and looked up. The thing in question was clearly not a living thing. It had a flatish, disk shaped head, stocky body, frail legs, and one arm was a weapon of some sort.

"What are you?" Numi asked, scared.

"I am a robot. I was made 13 million years ago to combat the beasts of old during the Dark Ages." The robot replied. "I have a name, for I was a high ranked fighter. Hence why I'm still in one piece..."

"What's your name?" Numi asked.

"Regiment 6 leader Denki." The robot said. "I led shock brigades. None of my men are still here, sadly."

"My name's Numi. Leader of team Muffin!" Numi said happily.

"Team Muffin? Is that a sports team or something? Does Axel do that now?" Denki asked.

"No. I mean, kinda. It's my Turf War team." Numi said.

"Sounds like an otherworldly game. Anyhow, it is good to talk to someone..." Denki said. "No one really comes by, because the settlement moved away from here many months ago..."

"Why not go after them?" Numi asked.

"This is where all retired robots go. We cannot get out of the slime area here. And even if we could, Axel left the only charging area down here, so we would shut down." Denki said.

"Thats sad..." Numi tried to hug him.

It wasn't very successful, but Denki was touched.

"So how'd you end up here?" He asked.

"I went into a color room and then it got bright and i woke up here!" Numi said.

"Goodness. Axel has done a lot. Can he do whole rooms now? At least that sounds like what happened. Must've been an accidental occurance." Denki concluded.

"By the way, what's a 'regiment'? Numi asked.

"Well, to explain that, i have to explain a lot of how to world was long ago. Get comfy, I suppose. We'll call this story time, if you want." Denki said.

Numi nodded eagerly and sat down on a protriding rock, eager to hear what Denki had to say.

"Where to start...." Denki trailed off for a moment.
